These topics happen every patch day. I don’t understand it. You guys know Anet is based in the western US, this should be nothing new.

According to the said ANet, one of them posted the exact time when the patch should go live, and that time passed ~20 minutes ago.

No anet employee posted when it should go live; if they did, provide a quote.

HOWEVER, The window for getting the 5 transmutation charges gets smaller every minute, and in 4 hours, you risk having timezones without any ability to get them whatsoever because they’ll be asleep/at work/etc.

what? no matter what time the patch goes live today, the window to get your stones will be minimum 24 hours.

I was a little bummed out that the patch probably won’t come today for me, until I figured I’d have one last day to get some last unidentified dyes as drops in the open world. I’ll miss that squee feeling when I see it dropping from a plant or corpse. :c

I bet they are twitchy about pressing the go button and doing lots of last minute checks. I’ve always found it a little scary on my software projects when an update affects many sites, and each site is critical. I would find gamers more scary than clients judging by this forum ;-)

I was really looking forward to coming home from work to see all the lovely updates, been several hours since I got home and still nothing. Making me sad.

Here’s an idea,

Instead of whining, use the time to make a new character on an open slot, explore all the race cities, earn 15 transmutation stones (aka 5 charges). Delete and repeat until patch time.

It is approaching lunch time Anet time. Here is what I imagine is going on, just a guess. A lot of morning meetings and prep, QA stuff and so forth. Now a group team lunch in house to discuss ongoing concerns and address all questions from Anet staff members from all disciplines to ensure everyone is on the same page. Post lunch, prepare for the patch. Within an hour or two after lunch patch goes live.

I’m always baffled by these threads. I know some of you people understand how programming works. So many things are dependent on other things, and you might not even realize change A broke system B until later on – and then you spend hours trying to reproduce the bug so you can fix it. It’s like you’re playing Jenga but some of the blocks are invisible so you don’t realize stuff was balanced on the block you pulled out until it collapses.

Even a seemingly insignificant change can have unexpected consequences. One person makes a text field slightly bigger (pets can now have 15-letter names instead of 12!*) and suddenly your whole game crashes.

Obviously they want to make sure as much of it works as possible, knowing that when they release it into the wild two dozen people will still manage to break something in a way they never anticipated anyway.

Good thing you don’t work for Anet then with how easily you get frustrated and flustered professionally.

My problem is the bad PR. Don’t say the 15th if the patch won’t hit the 15th in one of the two major regions your costumers play and pay from.

Missed the part where I said anything at all about my profession. Also missed where “baffled” became a synonym for “easily frustrated”.

But if you really want to know, I spent 10+ years as a teacher. There’s very very little that professionally flusters me. I can take being vomited on with total aplomb.

Would you all agree this update has been an epic fail, as I write this its 21.35 in the UK, just over 2hrs to the 16th April, I booked the day off work which I’ve never done for a game, I usually finish around 22.00 and come home and download patch.

I heard that the “devs” were “testing things” to see if there needs to be any “last minute changes”. In other words when the devs finish playing they’ll upload it, likely around 11:59pm :P

For your information, ANet still have more than 10 hours in their day. So, unless they wait another 11 hours, they’re still within the 15th of April for their update…

I have no thoughts. The patch will go up when it goes up. End of story.

It’s going by USA timezones and they literally may release it at any time of the day, even at night-time EST which they did before.

This is that last thing they said so far on Twitter, it was about 20 mins ago.

its almost 7am in Australia and almost 9am in New Zealand on the 16th.

Anet fan club and under the table employees should stop commenting on the forum. If a person expresses a bit of disappointment because he/she made arrangements to play a video game, least you can do is sympathize. Anet has released patches most commonly at 9am Pacific, which is 5pm UK. He/she has a right to be disappointed, if not necessarily upset about this one.

You would also think that a serious company like anet would have the patch finished and tested long before release date. But this last minute hold up makes players nervous because they fear, and rightly so, that the update will not be a finished product and patch after patch will follow (say when you are about to cap SMC).

So, in short, sorry for the wasted day, my friend. Everyone else, start your own thread if you feel so inclined to express your condescending opinions in this forum.

They have stated numerous times that all days / times given are based on Pacific time zone. As far back as the launch of GW1. It’s not like things have suddenly changed….

Please give us some news on a time when the patch will come out. It doesnt have to be accurate. Just give us a aproximate time. The last news we heared was 3 hours ago. Please communicate with us.

Arena Net is in PST. GMT -8:00. They said it would be out on the 15th. That is /IN THEIR TIME ZONE/.

I know it’s a phenomenally hard concept that it’s not the same time everywhere on the planet at the same time, and that the company is going to use the time /they’re in/. But I’m sure you can understand if you REALLY try.

Or, because people can’t understand that they work by their own work day, and not the work day of say, Paris, they should put the date and the timezone.

Usually the community doesn’t handle misinformed dates at all, so they usually never say anything about date / time unless they are 100% sure.
