I hope that Regina and the rest of devs realize that thikittenus and lack of knowledge about the future is making people leave…
and unless LS come back really strong, they wont return…
They are winning new players with the china’s release, but they are loosing a lot of europeans because megaserver and lack of vision on the future…

This is the sad reality of MMO’s. There is only so much time in a day. Employees have homes and families and need to rest and recreate. The budget only supports so many employees. Things take time, even blog posts. Every MMO out there has fall-offs between releases. I’m sure ANet is well aware of what’s going on with concurrency.

@NathanH

you forgot to mention quite a lot of things like:

4 new PVP maps,
pvp tournaments
pvp arenas
spectator mode
pvp dailies
traps in wvw
new conditions
reward revamp
EOTM
quite a bunch of new dynamic events
a couple of mini dungeons
bunch of new skins
quite a bunch of guild missions
wallet
a truckload of new crafting recipes
quite a few new materials
new world bosses
revamped world boss
revamped dungeons
a couple of new instances
a couple of new maps
2 revamped zones
a bunch of new mini games
a couple of world events (invasions / toxic alliance)
reward revamps
MF revamp
new runes
LFG
new utilities / consumables
and I am sure I missed some stuff

sure a lot of content was temporary but a lot of it was permanent as well.

And I dont want this to be taken the wrong way but I think it needs to be said. A lot of people claim temporary content doesnt count, only permanent content does. Yet when ever people who feel that way list what permanent content Anet release since release the list ranges from absolutely nothing at all to a miniscule fraction of what was actually released.

If permanent content was so crucial how would this be explained? Truth is temporary or not once content is consumed its generally forgotten. Just ask yourselves how many times do you reroll and alt just to play a specific quest again in any other mmo? how many times do you reroll an alt to experience a dungeon that’s not part of the current end game in any other mmo?

NathanH said “At this point I don’t want to level an alt, because I already saw the whole world” so I ask you this, if all of the living story was permanent content what different would it make? would you level a new alt to experience it again or would you still feel not like it cause you already saw it all?

I’m not arguing there wasn’t permanent content. What I and many are arguing is that the ratio to Temporary / Permanent content is unbalanced.

I would surmise the ration to be like 30% / 70% with 30% being Permanent. The correct ratio would be 90% / 10% with 90% being Permanent.

Gotta agree with Persica on this one. We could say and be absolutely honest about saying it that those who argue that they’ve added permanent content over-exaggerate how much content was actually added to the game while detract about how little was A: Open world and available to every playstyle (IE not a dungeon or a PVP event) and B: kept in the game without some measure of work from the playerbase hoping the devs were listening that day.

It shouldn’t be like that in any title much less a AAA MMO in modern times, and no it’s not okay, there are F2P titles out there with WAY more content in the same development time that are indie who’s content was both permanent and the equivalent of an expansion with each release. Many of us feel that the content that’s come before the LA events were experiments and thus weren’t full releases and that the game continues to linger in a post beta beta stage in many areas an needs careful considerations and many updates. We’re hoping for many more CDIs in the future to fix combat, rewards, missing ui elements, QoL additions, and many activities most game developers in this type of setting (fantasy) consider essential to NPC life.

This is why I always hope game have some sort of subscription model. All Arenanet is doing is create more skins, finishers and other crap for the cashshop. I dont want another fuzzy hat, bunny ears, lama finisher… I want to see a new expansion and new zones to explore.

But there is not room to create those because they need to create items for the cashshop to stay healthy on the cashflow.

Good thing I can spend my time in ESO at the moment, it has bugs and stuff missing but atleast the patches are flying around on a weekly base and new content is coming after just one month.

The problems you are talking about are related to cash-shop not to no subscription. If they would make money with expansions we would already have had one and might even be close to getting a second one.

I bet part of LS2 development also comes with mechanism to replay stuff or make it more permanent for later experience. They’ve had so much negative criticism about the temporality of LS1 and how it was nice for 2 weeks but then content – good as bad – was gone and not possible to play again.

Well I would hope so but they did get a lot of complains about the LS from pretty early on. I remember myself being active on the forums saying I and many other would prefer better and permanent content. Then Anet said they would start releasing new stuff every two weeks.. Yeah why not? many complains so lets do it every two weeks.

However they said the teams where also bigger so the content would get bigger. I said on that, that it would only mean a bigger list of temporary achievements to do would not make it better but worse. Well we all know that is exactly how it went.

Later they also said they would make stuff more permanent and they sort of did. We did get 2 permanent JP’s and one dungeon patch (not sure if you can see that last one really as part of the LS, but anyway) also they made some cosmetic changes to the world… Well if that is the permanent stuff that they think we want then we are on a complete different level. yes we do want permanent stuff like the JP’s but we (many of us) simply want all the LS stuff to be permanent. No problem at all depending on how you tell the story.

Like I said many times before.. Let the LS be an event that leaves behind permanent content, events, rewards and so on. Don’t link everything to the temporary event.

Anyway, Anet was then warned by many people including me. They did not listen even when they said they would and it worked out like many of us predicted.

So why would we now suddenly do see the change? Maybe we do, maybe not.

Saddest thing about it is that while I don’t like this approach also because of the cash-shop influence on the game (and so would not like the LS even if they put in that stuff) in fact I do believe they could have put much of the expansion-like content in the game with the LS, just like they said they would. But they didn’t. One can only guess why.

The only think that might help is not buying gems and keeping to ask for expansions on the forum. Maybe then somebody who makes the decisions over there will decide they should go for the expansion-model instead.

problem they created was the 2 week schedule got everyone looking for content right after content. not we got feature pack it would be great to get news when the 2 week content will begin again or whatever path they are taking. they dont have to release trailor or nothing of that sort. maybe a blog post where the games going and a date for season 2(even if its a month away) to begin is all im asking. they started the 2 week process and its been better then 2 weeks and no info when new stuff might be coming its there fault

No you got that wrong. I, and with me many are not here because we can’t wait for the LS2 to start. In fact I would be fine if that would never come. I have more fun without the pressure of “do this content now or lose out on it forever”.

I am here to see if we get any news about real content, an upcoming expansion. After the debacle of LS S1. That is what I have been waiting for a long time.

Challenge helps but so does rarety and working towards it even if it’s less challeging.

thing is a 1 in 100 might create rarity but only if its a challenging encounter that no everyone can do so people give up before hitting that average 100 tries. If its trivial plenty of people will endure the 100 trivial fights to get that “rare” pet so it will not be rare anymore. doing 100 trivial fights is nothing i played games where regular quests wanted me to kill more mobs then that

well if you didnt skip it you’d have your mini already no?

Only if it was a ganranteed drop. Else if the drop-rate would be 1/100 it’s likely you still don’t have it.

Partially right. yes you’re absolutely right you could try him once and then go on do other things only to come back but a 1/100 drop rate is there for a reason and that reason is developers intending this boss to be content lasting how long it takes to kill him multiplied by a 100 on average .By doing the encounter once and moving on you technically only did part of the game sessions developers intended for and by coming in after maxing out you’re further reducing the amount that boss is supposed to last. That being said conceptually I agree more with you then developers here. Being forced to repeat content isnt really content.

No because the boss still have that mini to offer that you want that the stuff at your level do not drop. So you have a reason to do both.

That’s a choir not content. Without the difficulty and the challenge what will I enjoy, starting the auto attack and checking the news for the next minute or so ?

No, there is nothing sweet about it being temporary. You do it more then eventually you get rewarded for it. That is sweet. Having stuff you like being removed from the game is not even close to sweet imho.

It is sweet because if you win you have something of real value. There is a reason why a rare Aetherized pistol sells for 80g while other rares sell for a few silver. Final rest also started pretty rare because it had a really low drop rate. I remember when it was first available you had to pay something like 38g for it but now you can get for 4g easily. the drop rate didnt improve it still a very rare drop, its still one of the most beautiful staffs available in the game but because it wasnt a time bound reward eventually it lost its value cause as long as you have all the time in the world unless you gate how many times players can try to get that reward or the difficulty is such that its unreachable for most players its not going to remain rare for ever.

The numbers where just examples, So yes 1/100 is not a lot.
Also you keep focusing on the easy boring farm examples. Yes they are there but much of the content would just be behind stuff at your level and so be challenging.
And for the record, GW2 is the only game I play windowed 9 of the 10 times because meanwhile I am doing other stuff, including watching movies. So the way you describe that is exactly how much of the current content is already.

The Aetherized pistol sells for 80g because it is very rare (and one of the best looking pistols). And like I said before if stuff would be non-temporary it could still be rare. Other games proof that. The main difference is that in those games if you want to get that thing you can work towards getting it directly. In GW2 you can do that also but by grinding gold.. Just like for every item. And then there are items that are not available anymore at all. Of course grinding gold for it would still be an option.

Personally I don’t mind there is no next season yet. I tent to like the game better without a ‘do it now or miss out forever’ feeling. But I would love to see an expansion with some great permanent content in the future.

oh I must say I agree. Looking at the new Wardrobe, there’s so many skins that just aren’t available any more. Not to mention a lot of content I wouldn’t mind replying.
But since the forums have been going on and on about temporary content I’m hoping ANet takes it to heart. Remember when Living Story events were once off like Karka invasion of LA? We complained and ANet changed. So I’m hoping.

In fact the Karka invasion (not yet really LS btw) is pretty much how I like to see it. An event that happens, but no achievements and content and rewards directly linked to it. Then when the event is over a lulk of new permanent content. Sure it was not much (the island was empty) and sadly even then there was some temporary stuff but overall it was much much better.

More of that please.

People did complain but that was mainly for 3 reason. They had that one big event at a specific time. Meaning half of the player-base could not be there because they had work or where sleeping. Also the ‘killing karka’ took to long and many people had disconnection problems. But the event itself and how they added content that was great and I did not hear people complain about that a lot (except that the island was empty).

I don’t know why they did not do more of that. Easy fix would be to record the events (like really record it per server / overflow) and then having the ability to watch it back really seeing the players. It would give the people who where there an even more epic feeling of being part of history (ingame) and gave those that missed it a change to see it happen.

The next event would then be at another time so those who missed last event where more likely to be there for this one. And everybody was able to do the content that did stay forever.

It was fun, it did not give list of achievements to complete within x time, it did change the world and it added permanent content!

The complains about the LS S1 have been there from pretty soon on. What they did was going from 1 month releases to 2 week releases making the problems even bigger (more temporary content to complete before it was gone). The complains increased and one again they said they would listen.. Well we got a permanent JP and a permanent dungeon path. Overall most of the LS stuff just stayed temporary.

So no I can’t say they did really listen before and so I am not so sure they will do it better in the future.

Just give me an expansion. Then we can also get rid of the cash-shop focus and all negative side-effects that come with it. Win win.

How is that defining fun? defining something means stating what it is. IE if I said doing jumping puzzles is fun thats defining fun. but stating a reward will not make an activity and more or less fun is not defining anything that’s an observation.

By stating that something is not fun, a reward for example, you are defining fun as not including that thing.

How do you know these people are having fun doing the content rather then just happy with the reward though? cause there is a crucial difference there.

I know that studies have shown this. Enjoyment of an activity, the activity itself, can be influenced by the associated rewards. An activity that might otherwise be boring can become enjoyable due to associated rewards.

Completely agree but please note I never defined grind. I never said doing X is grindy. I simply went with the basic definition of grind IE boring repetitive task. That can be Questing, PvP, gathering, Crafting whatever doesnt matter.

Its good to know what you enjoyed but I would be more interested what aspects of Gw1 or Gw2 find boring and if you truely thing you’ll start enjoying that same content you find boring right now if a good reward is tied to that (whatever that may be for you as obviously good rewards are subjective too)

I did not find any aspect, that I can recall, of playing either game to be boring.

If a company has to completely neglect its existing customers because its reaching for a new market with new customers, I doubt that company is capable to handle that at all.

+1. I was trying to say this, but u did a better job. Players shouldn’t expect to be put on hold just because the devs are trying to tap a completely unrelated market. China should not effect us in NA at all, but it is.

Part of me thinks that someone in ANet was thinking “hey, wanna see something funny? Watch this…”

It is completely reasonable, in my opinion, for Anet to have gone into quiet mode while pushing for the China release. The problem, again in my opinion, is that they did so on the heels of a major release that had such potential for impacting the existing player base.

This was just a matter of poor scheduling more than anything else.

Gotta agree with Persica on this one.

I actually disagree with Persica, but for somewhat different reasons. For the most part, most of the permanent content was polishing – stuff that they should’ve done to balance the game. The additional content pretty much consists of EOTM, Tequatl, TA Aetherpath and Triple Worm. Game polishing isn’t additional content and shouldn’t be justified as such. However they are both justified as permanent content, perhaps it’s just semantics – but I feel it’s a relevant point.

I just hope the silence doesn’t continue forever – Even if it doesn’t come out until the end of the year, I’d be appreciative of just knowing a large expansion is in the works – much like how Square Enix revealed KH2.5 and KH3. Everyone knew they were going to be in the works – and simply knowing they’re about half a year away makes it easier to deal with. No more silence, no set date, but a general time frame of when we can expect something that they have confirmed working on.

The content shouldn’t be out within the next two weeks but a PA definitely should.

I wasn’t actually being serious when I said the Elder Dragons would be done on a grand scale. Though I have this small sliver of hope that it will be done with thorough thought and be ironed out and actually be memorable, I’m surely not going to expect it, just from previous experience.

I wouldn’t do that, you’d be holding your breath for a very long time resulting in death.

Simply put, I think it’s pretty ridiculous that the game has been out for what… almost two years now and we have basically nothing to show for it. I thought SW:TOR was bad… HA! I was mistaken. We have had teeny tiny pieces of added content that is permanent but unfortunately, most of which has little to zero replay value due to the rewards and difficulty associated with it (ie: TA Aetherpath and Great Jungle Wurm). I think the only major permanent addition that I have enjoyed to a certain extent is Edge of the Mists.

Don’t say that the Living World was added content because really, who’s brilliant idea was it to dedicate (seemingly) hundreds of hours of time and resources on content that you can play for 2-4 weeks and never again? Really, who’s genius idea was that?

Aside from that little rant, my friend’s list has dropped tremendously in activity. A few friends that I am close with even stated that they’re simply bored. There is just no new content and the Living World is nothing to look forward to anymore.

Combine the above with the insidious “MegaServer”, poor customer service and customer satisfaction…

I guess that a must in permanent content is:
- skills (I wanna drown in skills!)
- variety (same weapon and skills to fight, same enemies throughout the story)

What is wished and somehow needed:
- maps
- lore
- armors (not bloody gemstore skins)

These are IMHO the 5 points ANet needs to work on to allow the game to survive. GW1 was awesome because it was varied: not every insert profession had the same build. Every map was rich with some lore, I honestly did not watch “cutscenes” from lvl30 onward. We had different enemies, not only undead (I know Zhaitan is the undead dragon, but still).

If ANet understands these points, they could introduce LS2 without too many problems. But as stated earlier, the ratio permanent/temporary isn’t balanced, and this creates a lack of interest from certain players. If I hadn’t WvW (which is repetitive but less than the main story) and my friends, I would have quit the game a long time ago.

Due to lack of announcement and their multiple projects, I keep some hope about the future of the game. GW1 wasn’t really rich at the beginning, so let’s say the same here (I know it has been 2 years), and the next update will make our jaws drop

The problem is that with the huge changes to boss rotation and the megaserver a lot of people have become disconnected from the “old content” that they filled their time with and enjoyed doing.

There is a real disconnect out there and while the players could usually survive that a fair while, with the situation as it is, things are not good.

Exactly. Any gaming company trying to expand shouldn’t put its main game on hold in order to reach more players. It’s bad business and it’s unprofessional. Like others have said, expanding into China should NOT be affecting us as players, because there should clearly be a separate team to do that – but in reality it is affecting us, because apparently all the team are working on making GW2 China work, whilst neglecting everyone else and ignoring the main game entirely. Not good.

Ohh come on. Since when does permanent content means dungeon or instances. You accuse people who list what permanent content was added of over-exaggerating (and they provide actual lists and I personally Listed the specific content was referring to when asked. While at the same time you’re coming up with rules and reasons that try to negate some of the permanent content we got. (wasnt instanced, felt experimental, etc..) Isnt that a move to over-exaggerate the argument of how little permament content we got.

I would totally understand an argument on the lines of we got little permanent content of the type I was looking for (if you like stuff like say dungeons and that sort of stuff) thats fine but saying hey that dungeon puzzle we got wasnt really permanent content cause it was not the type of content I was looking for or well yeah we got all that content but it felt experimental so it doesnt count… is with all due respect dishonest.

Also you keep focusing on the easy boring farm examples. Yes there are there but much of the content would just be behind stuff at your level and so be challenging.

of course no doubt but dont forget here we’re discussing what tangable difference does leaving content in the game permanent make. So current level content doesnt count for this discussion only lower level content does.

And for the record, GW2 is the only game I play windows 9 of the 10 times because meanwhile I am doing other stuff, including watching movies. So the way you describe that is exactly how much of the current content is already.

Please lets not exagerate now, sure Gw2 is quite easy not arguing against that but not even a level 80 character can tank a level 1 npc without the player being active. Most other MMOs have a high power curve and a max level character can passively tank legions of low level mobs without the slightest risk of dying because they regen more health then the legion of mobs can dps.

Have an example? because I cant imagine how something can be very rare without either being temporary, ridiculously hard drop rate, time gating attempts or really hard content thats only accessible to the most hardcore players. All of those have their pros and cons ofcourse. Me personally I hate repeating the same content over and over again so my preferred option that provides rarity is temporary content.

Sure agreed, but can you point at one thing I stated is not fun? Cause afaik I really didnt.

I know that studies have shown this. Enjoyment of an activity, the activity itself, can be influenced by the associated rewards. An activity that might otherwise be boring can become enjoyable due to associated rewards.

I would geniuninly be interested in reading this study, you have a link or some pointers on how I can find it?

I did not find any aspect, that I can recall, of playing either game to be boring.

so then if didnt yourself experience a situation where a boring task become fun thanks to rewards associated with it is it safe for me to assume your whole argument is from observing other people or this study you mentioned above?

Yet, you can if you’re a ranger… There are several instances where I was AFK for a bit and on my return found some dead things around me…

Personally, I stopped caring about new content. I moved to the group of people who think that they should fix the current problems first, before even adding more problems to the game.

You’re right because your pet auto attacks it could out dps a single mob in a much lower level area. That being said please note we were comparing an open world boss not a single regular mob and your pet will not save you from a veteran mob much less a full on boss.

Ok, guys, cool, we had some stuff, both temporary and permanent, but it’s all been quite miserable if you compare it to, let’s say, what Guild Wars 1 gave us within 2 years time since its premiere. 3 campaigns plus an expansion pack in 2007, 2 years after the original game’s premiere.
I don’t have to list down the things that were added in 3 campaigns + 1 expansion pack ( all in 2 years time; GW2 is almost 2 years old now ), because if I did the things someone here listed down for GW2 would look just… well, funny.
That is precisely the reason why there has been so much criticism regarding the Living Story of GW2. Quality-wise, what we got from GW2 within 2 years time, is a joke compared to its predecessor.

PS And please, don’t tell me to just leave the game if I don’t like. I loved GW1. Next to Lineage 2, which I consider ( as many do ) the best MMORPG ever, GW’s franchise has been by far my favourite one. ArcheAge will be occupying my time for a while pretty soon, but still, I would love to see new stuff in GW2, which nowadays is the game I play the most.

Cheers

PvE didn’t offer a lot contend related since release. There are no new areas to explore, no new storys to experience, no new skills… nothing. The game basically didn’t change since release.

This is actually blatant lying.
We have gotten new area(s), we have gotten new stories and new skills.
So basically nothing that you claimed is actually true.

And would you mind telling where all these new areas and storys are ???
The only thing is Southsun and this is borderline map.
You have 5 or somethign waypoints on a map you can walk through in 30 seconds.
Just because it’s overflown with monster doesn’t mean it is huge new content.

Beside that where are the new storys to experience you claim they are plenty off ????
When i start the character i have a very own short story and than move from Claw Island to Zaitan like everyone else does.
Nothing changed since release.

But if that are lies to you i’m fine with that

OMG stop complaining about content i would understand if you didn’t have anything new for 6 months. Let them launch the game in the new country first. If you don’t like it go and play other mmo’s that give you new content every year.

???

This game has nothing new for a major gaming group since release.
Believe it or not, there are people who play for a nice time, epic storys and adventures to be mastered. Getting connected to a self made hero and be part of a fantasy world.
These people love good storys, new continents to discover new storys to be told and lived.
People who doesn’t farm or grind a dungeon for special material.
People who doesn’t always wanna fight, who are not playing PvP.
Actually don’t grind at all to reach a special target like a legendary.

You create a character play 10 own story missions, change to Claw Island and go for Zaitan like every race else.
These people doesn’t find anything new since the release for 2 years now.
There is no new story or new contend
Are you really surprised these people are asking for new contend or leave ?

I know of a set of whelplings that are still (well at least until MoP but as far as I know still) pretty rare and have been available ever since the game launched 10 years ago.

Its true Gw1 released content lightning fast as well and a ton of it. That being said Gw1 was released in an era that graphical processing power could only do so much. While it looked great for its time by todays standard its graphics are quite simplistic. That means that to generate content for Gw1 is a lot faster then to generate content for Gw2.

I mean consider these 2 random pictures of LA I found online
http://i.imgur.com/gH18n.jpg
http://mmosale-fr.com/tactiques-image/Guild-Wars-2-Lions-Arch-Trailer.jpg

For gw1 you had a few low poly models for the architecure , a couple of tent polygons, a couple of plant polygons and some wood supports as well as one flag model.

compare that to the Gw2 picture. Terrain isnt flat but has topology as well, by the side of road you have pavement models, pots etc. You have wood and rope railings. 7 different tree models. complex multi story buildings that unlike gw1 arent just modeled from the outside but the inside as well. Cliff topology is complex as well. Undoubtedly not only it takes a lot more effort to create Gw2 LA then Gw1 LA and while you can throw people at the problem please realize that has its limits to as at the end of the day only 1 person can work on 1 model at the time.

And its not just cities either, lets take an open world village as an example, compare the work that goes into making this: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/images/13/may/gw1.jpg
with the work that goes into making this:
http://www.blogcdn.com/massively.joystiq.com/media/2010/05/gw2-rb-512.jpg

simply not possible to keep the same time line. And its not just art. In Gw1 NPCs didnt have to be scripted to deal with water or hills. They didnt need to deal with dodging. etc.. Gw1 didnt need to deal with dynamic events you could only have 1 mission / quest active so you didnt need to worry about what happens if npc of one event find themselves tangled in another while traveling from point a to point b. You could only have 8 people in a map so if you have an event where you want the npc to turn friendly after receiving say 80% damage you didnt need to deal with situations of a 100 player characters dealing damage to him at the same with the result that the last single attack of those 100 players might do more then 20% damage and kill him anyway. In Gw1 you didnt need to design and test events and mission to scale depending on the number of people in the area. etc…

Again not belittling Gw1 here, love the game as much as any of you just being realistic and pointing out that the effort of creating gw2 content is much larger then the effort required to create gw1 content so comparing the amount of content in the same timeframe might not be exactly fair.

we’re going with new areas to explore and new stories here right? cause if so apart from southsun which changed twice and had new story content each time, you have cragstead and the hatchery. Then you had existant zones change and stories associated with that change as well in kessex hills, Divinitys reach and LA.

Then you had those recurring events which you might count or not, they werent permanent but they were still new areas to explore and they had their own stories too. I am talking about the mad king realm, the wintersday, sab as well as the labyrintean cliffs.

since 2 years. That is what people complain about.
No new PvP or new weapon set or wardrobe or mini pet will change that.
People want something new and exciting……………
Open the whole map to GW1 size for a beginning this would make people incredible happy. After that work on Cantha and Elona….. people would cry of joy.

All that reminds me of an Office where people complain about having to much work and not enough people to handle. The boss of the office tells them to find a soultion for all that.
1 month later he comes in and announces….. “i have a huge surprise for all of you”…..
the employees start to cheer and feel relieve………….. “i brought Ice Cream”…..

This is exact the same feeling lot’s of players experience with GW2.
They are told that something incredible is coming and they get wardrobes, new armor, maybe a new dungeon or more mini pets.

There are lot’s of people who feel unheard or ignored.
Of course having PvP’er or WvW’er who have exactly what they want telling them to shut up or go somewhere else is not helping either.

I guess all people want is some fan interaction from A-Net.
Something like…. no new contend this year… or we plan some dungeons or… a new map for WvW…………….
Nothign really special or connected to a time frame.

Regina and really the rest of the ANet staff.. a small recommendation: find more words than ‘excited’ to use. You all have used it so much (I think Chris used it twice in one post recently?) it’s lost its impact imho (especially when you consider how some ‘exciting’ things like the megaserver have turned out.)

Anyway, I think this lull in new stuff is showing a huge weakness to the temporary content/living world thing. Other MMOs add new content to their games and leave it there which broadens the players’ choices. ANet certainly has given us lots of new content, but by removing it, it ends up sort of negating it in times like these when there’s nothing new to offer. Right now, people largely have the same activities to do as they had in the first few months after launch and that’s problematic.

When I am leveling an alt or doing a dungeon or LS stuff I almost always play in windowed mode having only one eye on the game.

Not only when I go with an lvl 80 to a lower zone. The eye on the screen is mainly there to see if I need to dodge. Anyway, it’s to much off-topic so leave it with that. Yes putting rewards behind content might sometimes result in easy farming content but the game already has that.

I thought we were talking since launch, if you take this year alone then Wintersday definitely shouldnt count dont think they added anything, Halloween there was that blood prince instance.

what about the scarlet saga? that was a new story ! One that had even multiple branches. Beyond the Scarlet main story arch it branched into the consortium and southsun, Ellen/Evon and the zepherites as well as Jenna and humanity in general.

Problem there is people are assuming the some great thats coming was the feature patch. But actually it most likely was not it. Whats the bases of my statement? this interview amongst other things:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-01-14-you-thought-that-was-it-for-guild-wars-2

specifically “Not really. ArenaNet is full tilt with the Chinese launch of Guild Wars 2, the Season One finale, the feature-build update and the two big background projects.”

Those two big projects have been mentioned since at least the beginning of the living story when we were told there are 4 teams working on the living story and other teams working on bigger long term stuff.

That being said I agree with you it would be nice if they gave us a high level plan on whats going on but at the same time i understand why they dont do it.

1. because whatever they say will be twisted to fit people’s opinions.
2. because if they deviate even a little bit the playerbase will make a big deal out of it.

See, your thinking has one fallacy, however it is a serious one. Although as compared to nowadays, the creation of GW1 obviously looks and is easier, nevertheless you do not compare it in such a manner as, logically speaking, it is incorrect. You ought to be comparing it to the resources and techniques available at the time of specific creation. It means that the creation of GW1 at its own period of time was most likely equally difficult as the creation of GW2 at its own period of time, as the resources and equipment available were/are representative of different periods of time. In short, each period of time had its disadvantages representative of the limitations thereof. It is logically incorrect to say that “x from 2005 required less time than y from 2012 because in 2012 you had more advanced techniques and mechanisms at the creators’ disposal.” This assumption, from a logical standpoint, is incorrect.

Hope you understand the logical assumptions.

To be clear, I’m not complaining about the past. I am complaining about the present (megaserver, where you cant make guild missions, or in europe, where you cant organize properly a megaevent, first because you dont have your friends with you and second because you are surrounded by people who speaks french, spanish, german, english… so at the end everybody do what they think is the best and 0 organization), and about the future (where is a lack of vision or knowledge. I just dont know what they are going to do,assuming that they are doing something in the first place…)
Horrible present + no word about future = do the math yourself.
And in fact is not a complaint anymore, it is just a reminder. The game is currently in this state, with no present and no future… (at least from an occidental perspective) If I worked in Anet or NCsoft i would be worry about that kind of state…
And I agree tha solving the present problem may be tricky (although there are options, like erase megaserver, or create instances), but the future issue can be solved pretty quickly just sayng something. we are going to do this, we are going to do that on this date… something. Silence, at this moment, is the worst marketing campaign that i saw ever (and anet gave us nice pearls in the past about it… like the “Canach Dungeon” and stuff like that… XD, so that previous sentence means a lot)
I hope that China at least respond well to the game, thats were i guess it is really the Anet’s focus.

Let me add that other games doesnt need to say anything, because they have a playable game. So it doesnt matter if you dont hear anything in 6 months. But in this case, where we have present issues, hearing nothing is suicide.
We need to know that something is coming, something better than the present, actually.

Very bored and unhappy at the moment. There is nothing to do, nothing at all…

Very true it’s the silence that is annoying, and the silence means there is nothing comming anytime soon. If they would let us know now, what would be comming to us at let’s say 1 july… Aight that would suck because it would take 25 days… But at least got something to look forward to. Now it’s just ‘nothing will happen.’ And the silence is the most annoying thing/
