Why do You block access to interesting areas?
Great Collapse was a last minute change due to marketing.

I know but this wasn’t the question. The question is: why block them off?

Because they are unfinished areas not meant to be accessed by the players yet. Just because you are a customer in a store you don’t get to go into the “Employees Only” areas.

I see what you mean but this is a game not a store. Still wouldn’t hurt anyone getting there. If something is really a big secret they just don’t put it into the game. They have put these in, to tease us and not let us there? Come oooon.
You know it’s off limits so just stay out.
Because they’d rather make boring living story stuff instead of those areas

Getting into something that doesn’t exist is quite hard though.

Because there’s nothing in it. All you see is facade.
If you’ve never done anything in mapping it can be disheartening to release, but when you see a house just outside of your reach, most of the time it’s not really a “house”, full of NPCs and hidden things. It’s usually just the front of a house, with nothing behind or inside it. It’s a way to save time and resources (both yours and the server’s), by simply not including things that you won’t see anyways. Most of the time that “neat castle at the horizon” is just a neatly placed cardboard cutout, a ghost without any collision even. If you tried to walk on it you’d fall right through.
So the simplest way to put it is that you’re not allowed there because it’s unfinished, and most of the time there really isn’t anything beyond what you can see, and you wouldn’t even be able to walk on it even if they didn’t block your path.
you guys realize the difference between “things you are able to imagine that might be there” and “areas which were actually made”.
If you jumped in that hole, you’ll find, there isn’t anything there.
Here is a video what does happen if you cross a border you should not be able to cross:

I have got to several places like this (even the Collapse) and there are places which are fully designed yet closed off.
(Oh and didn’t know there are so many cover agents from devs amongst players )
