Can’t do the bell choir or the jumping puzzle but required for the Wintersday daily? Please change this.
Tried a round of the choir and kept dying, so that was a bust. As for the JP, well I’m not great at those and usually just steer clear of it.
These two shouldn’t be included as a requirement of the dailies.
Sad.
Did you even try the bell choir? That is all that is required, you know?
Join at the start of a bell choir game, the first song is extremely easy. You only need to do 5 of 6 of the dailies, so you do not need to do the JP. The dailies are also likely to change everyday.

As I stated, I was in the choir but kept losing health since I was missing notes. I would get kicked from the stage and well, no update to my daily.
What are the wintersday daily rewards?
Something that isn’t obvious: between songs you can quickly spam a note to heal yourself to full. You heal on every correct note, I think, even during the song, but for sure when it’s done you can be all set for the next song with just a few key taps.
I typed a comment to that effect in Map today which meant taking my hands off the number keys .. hoo boy did I mess up the next round. But I saw others healing up that hadn’t been, so it was worth it!
ya i get the chior on the 2nd try. It is really frustrating. I think the first song or something is easy.
I think the chior might be doable with some practice. I think I missed a whole bunch of notes and still manage to pass. I think you only need to pass 1 song.
That’s strange. i felt i missed most but still got it.. maybe my perception was off :-/
Then do the other daily options.
I did a lot on WvW, But I won’t ever ask ANet to not have WvW options in the daily.
Here’s why:
Other people are good at it and enjoy it.
There are people who are good at bell choir and the jumping puzzle and who find it enjoyable. Therefore, they should remain as options for the daily.
it’s not that difficult. as some one said, I missed most note(almost like everything) but still manage to get the daily.
I think there’s a slow sound in the beggining where you don’t need to hit many notes. You can miss most but still get it.
There’s a metronome tick in the beginning of each song to warn you how slow/fast the notes will be coming. Also if you take the lower octave, you’ll have less notes overall to hit.

I did the dailies, the PVE dailies. The one that you are talking about here. What I’m referring to is the Wintersday Dailies!
I got thru a whole round, got kicked a lot but went back in to stay til it ended. I received 0 points and got no credit for staying. I guess this is gonna be a wash for me and my hubby. Neither one of us are any good at these types of games. Wish there more options.
And yes, it is “that difficult” for some people who just don’t have that type of dexterity for key mashing.
I spent quite a lot of time trying to just practice it, but it was a disaster. I usually just move on if I can’t complete something, like the JP. Spent many hours last year attempting it and I think I got thru once, but it took me about 4 hours.
I don’t usually complain, but there really should be more options to complete some wintersday games for dailies. There’s a lot going on as it is.

Thanks to everyone for sharing tips to complete this daily. I’m sure they were very helpful to Lillith and others who are attempting this objective.
Gaile – the problem is that the event is actually kind of bugged. The daily just requires participation, so you should be able to go in, miss every note and still get your daily. I had gone in, hit notes, and was ejected for failure about 4 or 5 times before the daily recognized that I had participated.
LOL thanks Gaile. I’m not very musically inclined nor do I do well at JP, but I do attempt them.
I appreciate the hints and tips guys.

It’s kinda late over here but if you really want the daily, PM me and i’ll try to run you through the JP (if you are on EU).

I’ll give it a go tho

Well it’s not that hard, even I managed to do it and I’m both tone deaf and born without any sense of rhythm. My music teacher didn’t believe that was possible, so the two years I had to learn how to play the flute were pure torture. By the end of it I still couldn’t play the most simple of melodies… and I trained almost daily.
Anyway if I can achieve this daily you can do it too. My advice, focus on a few notes, preferably the ones on the “outside” (so 1-2 & 8-9), but whatever your hand-eye coordination can manage. Don’t attempt the others notes, you’ll probably only get damage twice for missing the note and hitting when no note is there. If you stick to the ones you focus on you should be healed enough to survive the ones you miss. And as others have said heal up in between the parts. That should do it.
I hate that I even have to deal with that crap if I want the wintersday-daily, good job!
I’ve tried to participate in the bells several times but it bugs out every time I try to access a stage.
Scratch one option of dailies, not my thing.
I tried both the wintersday jp and the choir – couldn’t complete either for the life of me.
#nodailywintersdayformeIguess
What SHOULD be done (but probably won’t) is make it so that you only need to do 3 wintersday dailies instead of 5. That way you get to do what YOU want, and not be forced to do one of the hardest hair pulling jumping puzzles, or the most annoying -press a million keys and in time or die instantly- bell choir.
Do the Wintersday dailies count towards your regular daily AP cap like the Halloween ones did?
Do the Wintersday dailies count towards your regular daily AP cap like the Halloween ones did?
No. They also don’t count towards the meta, which I welcome.

Now when you say meta, are you referring towards the daily completion where you need to complete 3 achievement for 10 AP or the pool of daily (temporary) AP which now has a cap of 15K? The latter was what I was referring to.

You remind me of a friend of mine.
You should either practice it and get good enough to complete those achievements, or ignore them. I don’t recommend half-heartedly trying then beating yourself up when you fail.
I could of used the Yoda quote, but I went this with instead: If at first you don’t succeed, redefine ‘success’.
And just in case you think you have it hard: I use nothing close to the default key bindings:
default 1 = mouse side button
default 2-5 = QWER
default 6 = G
default 7-9 = ZXC
default 0 = A

The ‘no’ was in regards to the regular daily. The second part meant, that unlike the halloween meta, the Xmas dailies also don’t count towards the Wintersday meta.
The point being…there’s people who can’t do it (like me), before anyone says “try it”. I have. I just don’t get it, but why should we be forced to play it for the meta? I’m goijg to be stuck with 1 achievement I can’t get for the prize. Anet keeps disappointing me with this game.
So, to get the wintersday meta, you have to grind out 500 correct notes in the choir.
(edited by Becka Williams.4978)
Last year you got the Daily Bell Choir for just being in the instance when it ended. That meant you couldn’t leave before the final score comes up, but as long as you didn’t you’d get credit.
Not sure if they changed that this year. If they did and it actually does require you to get up on stage and successfully play one song… that’s still super easy.
I just ran through the first song and did literally nothing, and I only got kicked on the last few notes. Which means you only need to hit something like 3 notes total to finish it (as long as you don’t miss notes). With as slow as the notes are in the first round, I think that should be doable for anyone.
Some things to note as far as general tips, though… you get penalized for missing notes AND for playing the wrong notes. So don’t mash buttons or anything like that, you’ll only get kicked faster that way. Maybe just play the two center notes (4 and 6) and ignore everything else if you can’t handle watching everything.
Also, you want to hit the notes AFTER they pass the white line, not before or the moment they cross. You get more leeway pushing the note late than pushing it early, so take your time and don’t jump the gun.
So, to get the wintersday meta, you have to grind out 500 correct notes in the choir.
Took me about 90 minutes total and I got the 30 songs in the next round, but I can totally understand that people don’t get it.
Anyone who has re-mapped their skills, utes and elite to something else will not be able to do this easily. First of all, write down your current key map. Then, go back to 1 – 0 for all skills and be glad that you don’t have hand reach of 1.5 octaves on a piano. For me, that’s a crowded computer keyboard.
Next, turn off the volume completely, select the lower part to play and re-position your view to look down on your part of the circle. Off-notes will put you off, so don’t listen to them at all. Other players notes (balls of light) will put you off, so don’t look at them. The lower part has fewer notes than the other section, so it’s generally easier to play.
In short, play this like a game of Tetris where each line leading to your character becomes a mental link to a finger. Put one finger each on the keys from 1 to 4, and 6 to 8, and then push the proper key just as the ball hits the edge of your space.
It wont take long to get good at it and you can move up to the middle part, where there are more notes and you progress much more quickly.

You mean Guitar Hero, not Tetris?
You mean Guitar Hero, not Tetris?
What’s Guitar Hero?

What’s Guitar Hero?
It’s what the Choir Bell ripped off assuming Guitar Hero didn’t rip it off from someone else. Google it and watch one of the videos. You’ll see what I mean. I personally don’t see how Tetris has lines that link to a specific finger since all you do is rotate various shames to fit into slots at the bottom while removing a row when you complete it.
I really hate this kind of minigames, especially if I am forced to do them for a greater goal (the meta achievement). The me versus NPC in crown pavillon, Belcher’s bluff, Southsun survival, etc. All horrible and totally frustrating. I never get used to the modified skills you get in these.
But… for some reason, I got used to the bell choir quite fast. This is different. Took me 3 sessions. First and second session: 0 points. 3rd session: 150 points. 4th and ever since: 500+.
1. you must have your skills 1..9 on the 1..9 of the top bar of your keyboard. Don’t use the numpad. If you remapped your skills, remember: you can assign 2 different keys to each skill/action. If you moved a skill away from 6..0, reassign 6..0 as secondary key.
2. zoom out and look upright down on the helmet of your character. Don’t keep the initial camera angle, where you look over your shoulder. Look directly down on you and on the ground.
3. a visual hint: move the mouse pointer over the border of the 2 middle lines, so it divides the left 4 lanes from the right 4 lanes. Everything left from the pointer is for the left hand, everything right from it is for the right hand
4. put pinky, ring finger, middle finger, index finger of the left hand over 1,2,3,4
5. put index finger, middle finger, ring finger, pinky of the right hand over 6,7,8,9
6. wait until each note moves over the blue border directly in front of you. Don’t press a note if it is not in “melee range”.
7. the round starts if you hear a “tock tock tock”.
8. If you don’t have full health after a round, you can heal yourself by pressing some notes, if you played the last note of the previous round correctly (or something like this – sometimes you can heal, sometimes you cannot)
Tetris had 4 skills linked to 4 keys. Left or right, clock-wise or counter-clockwise. Some versions had a “drop now” key, usually the space bar. It wasn’t hard after you got the hang of it.
I guess you got what I think about this sort of “music” when I said “turn off the volume”. This isn’t gaming and it isn’t music. A trained Seal or Monkey could punch these keys faster and more accurately than most teenagers, but it looks like a good Skinner Box and most US/EU game devs just can’t resist a good Skinner Box.

Erm, you can bind two different keys to each of those. Have your secondary as the number keys so you can play the choir bells like a piano. No need to change your primary key binding.

There is definitely a problem with the choir bell daily. It is not just that you can’t get ejected either. My first time through I “completed” a song and got some points for it, but the achievement did not trigger. In my case second time was a charm.
So even if this is a written text not matching the actual requirements the requirement check doesn’t seem to behave consistently.
Thanks to everyone for sharing tips to complete this daily. I’m sure they were very helpful to Lillith and others who are attempting this objective.
No, what would be helpful is getting the notation by the game that you participated. Especially since you reduced the number of ways for us to get the dailies this year!

It isnt easy with all of the horrible lag going on. CHanging it from last year once again makes work out of something that’s supposed to be fun. Seriously – I get enough work. I’d just rather not bother to even play.
For the bells : Rotate your camera so you can see down – it helps.
This way you can see the notes clearly as they pass into the blue zone and fire those skills off.

I did a lot on WvW, But I won’t ever ask ANet to not have WvW options in the daily.

You’re saying to REMOVE them because they are too hard for you.
I countered giving an example from my end. That the WvW dailies are too hard for me to do so they should remove them. Nevermind the people that are good at WvW and/or enjoy WvW.
You’re basically telling ANet to remove two things from the Daily because you don’t like them because you can’t do them without regard to the fact that other people like them.
By the way, I’m in the same boat as you. But due to the jumping puzzle. The Wintersday jumping puzzle hates me as I’m horrible at jumping and have to stop and spend several seconds to aim my jump. Doesn’t work too well with the falling snowflakes and the dropping of health.
Zaoda has a better solution. Instead of doing all 5, it should be do 3 of the 5. At least if they mean complete successfully. If it just toggles for completion, then they are bugged and you should still be able to get it assuming you participate and remain in the activity until the very end. If it’s completion, it should be 3 out of 5 just to cover the people who do have serious issues with certain activities or just don’t like a couple of them. I believe Mesmers can’t use their portal skill in the Wintersday puzzle and some people don’t have the dexterity due to physical handicaps.

No where did I ask them to be REMOVED. I have friends who love the JP and the Bell Choir games. Doesn’t mean I have to do them though.
Just suggested that there be more options added.
On the other hand, I agree that at least 3/5 of complete or just ADD more options for dailies.
And yes, it seems to be a bit glitched. After about 30 mins or so of practicing I was able to get the achievement. But I was getting kicked anyway for what I’m sure were the right notes. I played the easy songs in the lower parts. So it wasn’t too bad and there weren’t as many notes to hit.
I logged in just to agree with you OP. More options would be nice…guess I just skip this crap this year.
The choir bells frustrate me to no end, I just do not have the patience nor the keyboard skills so I cheated. Yes, I will admit it, I cheated. The wife did hers first try, heard me cursing a blue streak, took pity on me, came over and sat down at my computer and did mine on the first try. Do you think this will get me banned?

In the first post you posted this:
“These two shouldn’t be included as a requirement of the dailies.”
How was I not supposed to read “shouldn’t be included” as “remove them from the requirements of the dailies”?
I was a surprised that we need 5/6 for the daily. That is a lot, especially since it’s going to happen fairly often that a fair number of people will have trouble with more than one of them. Expect another thread like this every time the jp comes up in the daily rotation, at least.
Well the JP is annoying and I am sure a lot of new players will be frustrated with it its still somewhat doable in about 20minutes of retrying and a lot of kittens flying around. It would be nice if they increased the daily pool for this cause I am not a musical kinda person xD. So 30minutes of jp a day would really be annoying but I guess Ill get the hang of the jp eventually. but still it would be nice to increase the options for dailys for new players. PS wish I had my great sword to slaughter those snow ball tossing rats :P
The Bell Choir can be difficult at first, as the timing is iffy.
You want to press a button as the note-circle has just crossed the inner white line onto the circle you are standing on. Tilt your camera to be top-down for this, it helps a lot!
