What a shame. I only hope the Queen Karka event chain makes up for it.
It’s as if you lump in farmers with the gaming ‘scum’ of hackers, botters and exploiters
There’s a difference?
Yes. Farming is a legitimate way to the game in new ways, while farming gold.
The only difference between a farmer and a botter is the number of accounts one has been caught using.
The only difference between a CoF dungeon farmer and a banned exploiter is which one has been caught.
I actually chuckled at that. I’m too lazy to write a counter to that because, well, it’s ludicrous.
I used to go to Southsun for a bit of a farm before the LS but I haven’t since the LS started. No skin off my nose and I’ll go back there when everyone leaves. Farmers need a place to farm though. All Anet has to do is put some spots in (they don’t even have to tell anyone!) away from events and other sorts of content so farmers can get their fix.
This is why I don’t talk about farming spots when I find one
Also, for me, farming “stuff” is relaxing. I do it while I am chatting in vent with friends. I do not do it because I need to, but rather because I like to. I have more than enough gold to purchase anything I desire (or do not desire as the case may be), up to and including a legendary (I hate the things honestly, there is nothing about them that comes close to justifying the effort/cost to acquire one). But I DO expect something for my time investment, it isn’t like I’m just standing in LA after all. At this rate I really don’t see myself playing much longer. WvW (the only reason I ever got the game) has gotten worse, and now this attitude on ANet’s part with regard to PvE. Frankly, the game isn’t good enough to put up with much longer.
My only question, what happened to the “play how you want” mantra that was tossed around so much pre-launch? Apparently it’s “you will play how ANet wants you to play and like it!”.
“Please sir, may I have more?”

I’m sure an account hacker / gold seller would also describe it as a legitimate way to play the game – in fact there was even one months back on reddit saying just that when his friends got banned for hacking / exploiting, with a long “its their job” rant.
You all cause the same problems for the viability of the game. Just a difference of scale.
Be glad you mostly have Vayne to argue up in here. He at least concedes a space for your kind. Some of us who are just in game and not posting are a lot less accepting of the farmers and botters.
I think you’re generalizing people that farm.
Despite the fact that bots are unattended a farm for the sole purpose of making and selling gold, while actual human player farmers can have varying goals and purposes.
Some people farm for materials to use for themselves
Some farm because one of their favorite activities in mmorpgs is making gold, and this is the avenue they choose.
Some farm because they simply like farming.
Others farm because they like collecting materials, and have a goal of filling their collection tab up.
It’s possible to farm, and “play the game”(whatever anyone means by this) at the same time. Being a farmer doesn’t necessarily stop you from doing other stuff in game, some people might do nothing but farm(and there is nothing wrong with that), but that’s not something all farmers do.
I have nothing to say about CoF since I don’t run dungeons often.
Question: After reaching level 80 and getting a full set of exotic armor, what is the point of even playing anymore if not to farm? The endgame at level 80 is getting enough cash for the skins we want.
Now, this COULD be an abberation because I don’t do it that often, but for my money, I’ve personally made more money farming the armored scales.
Some people say they can make 9g/h with skelk on another post.
I didn’t know you can make that much on armor scales. So how many scale you get an hour? like 30?
I don’t know. I got 10 in about 15 minutes…but it might just be an aberration.
Actually, this time Vayne is almost right.
I just got out from the shark spot near Crab Toss island with 5 armored scales in 15-20 minutes…
So he probably overexagerate to prove his point, but i can confirm that’s one got spot for farm.
Wich now will be nerfed to death because ANet want us all autoattacking dragons and behemoth in their “revolutionary” Dinamic Events…
The point was never if he could, or could not get the amount of armored scales from said farming area. The point was that there was/is an agenda being pushed consistently and constantly trying to make farmers feel bad or wrong for doing what they choose to do within the confines and restrictions of the game, that they are “doing it wrong” because certain individuals somehow believe that it affects their own enjoyment of the game. These players feel they have some kind of direct line to the devs, when in fact they do not. No one player or group of players has the right or prerogative to decide for everyone else what is the right or wrong way to play and enjoy the time they spend within the game.
Ruh roh. Looks like the farmers are up in arms. Anyone actually play and see how much slower it is to make money? Maybe try killing some of the other stuff on the island which drops blood and fangs?
Honestly I don’t get you guys. In the time you’ve been here complaining, I’ve gotten 4 armored scales. And it hasn’t been that long.
You do realize they nerfed that too right? Because that’s what happened. So now there’s no rewards for playing, not even in the ways they’d like to impose instead of actually allowing the few choices we had. Anyway good luck getting your runes, sigils and legendaries everyone.

I have nothing to say about CoF since I don’t run dungeons often.
I farm to both make gold for when they break something else in engineering PVE which requires an immediate rebuilding of my gear from the bottom up and that costs big time, it’s not like in WoW where they give you a respec and that’s the end of it it costs lots of gold to get the runes sigils and weapons. It’s not simply the cost of the 3.5 silver when talking to the engineer trainer guy, and to have piece of mind.
And I also do this for relaxation. These mobs aren’t very dangerous usually and it helps keep my mind off my health and my stress. It’s nice to actually get something when you are out and about in the world.

I’m rewarded for playing. YOU might not get rewards for playing. You know how I know. You say it over and over and over again.
On the other hand, other people do feel rewarded for playing. It’s not that there are no rewards. It’s that you have a certain reward threshold that’s not being met. Okay. Find a game that matches YOUR criteria for rewards.
Pretty simple if you ask me.
Question: After reaching level 80 and getting a full set of exotic armor, what is the point of even playing anymore if not to farm? The endgame at level 80 is getting enough cash for the skins we want.
Some of us don’t or can’t dungeon all the time. I’m disabled with an illness that makes me feel tired and slow a lot of the time, I need to take breaks more often that a speed-clear group will tolerate. But I can farm. I like farming. It lets me go at a pace that doesn’t make me feel more sick and I wish ANet would keep non-dungeon types in mind.
What actually is a downer for me is that Orr has been gutted and I noticed the events were not triggering between Penitent Path and Shelter’s gate today (only one was), and there’s a good event farm loop at Kiel/Drift/Pride, but everyone’s too busy chasing the Queen.
I have 250 more gold to somehow grind out if I want Dusk. I can’t spam CoF and I am stuck farming this up myself (because as a guild leader, I don’t want to pressure my guildies into feeling they have to donate). I need to do it before it inflates /again/. How am I going to do that now with Orr empty and Southsun constantly zerged by so many mob waves and not enough players at any one base?
And don’t tell me I don’t need anything. I’m a homebound and bedbound invalid, online is the only thing I get to do.

Wait a week and most people will be back in Orr. It really is that simple. Southsun isn’t going to keep most of the people long term.

I know this isn’t really the point of your post, but you shouldn’t worry to much about Dusk’s price increasing. It’s been very stable for the past 4 months (and has even gone down in price slightly during that period)
Thank you both, I’ve been feeling very discouraged today. The instigator chain let me do good progress and I’ve made almost no gold today. ._.

It’s easy to feel discouraged, particularly if you do stuff on a day by day basis. Some days are always going to be better than others. As long as you try to see the longer term…that things do change in MMOs and gradually we all make progress (just not as fast as some would like) then you’ll be a lot happier.
I got my first legendary and I’m working on my second. The second is going to take a long time, because I’ve used everything for the first. But I don’t put too much pressure on myself to get it done fast, because if I did, I wouldn’t enjoy the game.
So just relax and enjoy what you can now. Try doing some meta events, which is relatively easy and non-taxing and still makes you money.
I take things day by day because my illness is unstable and my health is very fragile. I’m not meaning to make it a RL sob story, but that’s just how it is. If I don’t make much progress on goals I set, that was basically a day wasted that I can’t really afford to waste.
Edit: So ANet constantly favoring CoF and nerfing other places is very frustating. In GW1, I couldn’t do group speed runs to farm ectos for the same reason, but I could still farm granite and buy the ectos.

See, but that’s the type of thinking that will actually affect your illness (and I know this from first hand experience). By putting stress on yourself, you’re not making your illness or your health better. You can make progress every single day by following the meta events around, even if it’s not quite as much progress as you might have made doing what you were doing. But if you relax and just go with the flow a bit, instead of trying to force the issue, you’ll feel better. Truly, stress is the worst part of illness, because it only makes you more ill. And then you’d have to do it even faster.
Or, ANet could stop favoring dungeon runners and make the open world as viable, since ostensibly their manifesto placed the open world as their priority, and I could keep up.
‘Take it slow and easy’ is not really an option for someone whose time left doesn’t favor ‘slow and easy’. I appreciate the perspective, but taking things slow and easy just means it might never get done.

Okay, suit yourself. Good luck to you.

I disagree with this. Anet is not favoring dungeon runners in general, the only dungeon which is good at producing gold if CoF path 1 (and CoE for good groups, but this content is more challenging at least). In fact most dungeon runners complain that they could make far more money spamming easy world bosses than they could make doing most dungeons. The thing I hate about CoF is how easy it is, yet, how much gold it produces. IMO risk vs. reward is key: people who run FotM 40 should be making more gold than people who run far easier open world content (though they should also be making more gold than faceroll dungeons like CoF)

Lol!
I tried this last evening, with only the 200% MF Southsun buff.
Got 2 armored scales in 15min. Tried it again around 2hrs later on a different toon, again 2 armored scales in 15min. These drop rates are what I would expect.
I didn’t ‘farm’ any longer because in my experience DR sets in after 15 min,
Sorry, but I don’t believe either of you

I did it with my wife last night. After a relatively disappointing afternoon I got another 10 in about 20 minutes of farming. She only got 2 in the same time period.
Whether you believe me or not I don’t care. RNG is RNG. I am many things, but I’m no liar.
Question: After reaching level 80 and getting a full set of exotic armor, what is the point of even playing anymore if not to farm? The endgame at level 80 is getting enough cash for the skins we want.
I kind of feel this way too – it’s why I started getting into WvW, because I didn’t feel like I had anything else to do or any realistically achievable goals once I hit 80.
I have no problem with the horizontal progression idea of endgame being going for skins and minor upgrades, but the trouble is that some of them are so prohibitively difficult to get. Due to DR and RNG you almost have to spend gold to get some of the stuff you want, and gold isn’t particularly easy to get in my experience unless you treat the TP like a stock market (which isn’t fun for those of us who aren’t stockbroker types) or run dungeons over and over (which gets dull – and as a ranger, I’m not exactly getting invited to a lot of groups, and my guild is a very small group of friends.)
I’m trying to farm for Kudzu and I have most of it now, but the T6 mats are awful to try to get and its very disheartening. I don’t want to just break open my wallet and do gems → gold → mats because, well, that doesn’t feel legendary. I want to earn this. But if I hadn’t gotten stupidly lucky and had a precursor drop from a jellyfish there’s a good chance I’d never finish because the whole endeavour would feel so thanklessly impossible.
I think there is a fine line between having a long-term, difficult goal to work towards which encourages you to log in and keep playing, and making (at least some of) the endgame rewards feel so wildly out of reach you get discouraged and stop playing. With some of the materials I think it is falling on the wrong side of that line at the moment.

I know. Its just silly that the game is designed that way. GOLD is the main component of this game, yet they’re trying to stop us getting GOLD. I Know vayne will say that “OFC GOLD IS NOT THE MAIN COMPONENT OF THIS GAME BLAAA BLAA BLAAA…” but i think it is. I would obviously want to make myself look better and it can only be done with GOLD which we can get through farming. Dyes, weapons, armors, legendary, whatever it is.

You make it sound like Vayne is the ONLY person saying this, but this is far far from the truth. I believe more people play Guild Wars 2 less concerned about gold than more concerned about it.

Thats why these numbers don’t say anything when you only farmed for a short amount of time. I also had times when i killed 4 Arctodus and got 2 powerful blood a vicious claw and a vicous fang .. however thats normally not the fact and i get maybe one T6 maybe every 3-5 minutes or every 20-25 mobs with 76% MF .. and also there are times when absolutely nothing drops for maybe 30+ minutes.
And yes .. i counted the drops for maybe 20+ hours at least.
Just stop. Once enough players learn of a decent spot and catches arenanets eye, its nerfed. Getting tired of this.
Easy for you in hindsight, you have your legendary. The rest of us are being screwed every location we go to.

I got 50 in under 10 minutes!!! You people crack me up. There’s no way to know what he got. He could say anything he wanted in order to back up his posts, why bother even asking him.
Are you accusing me of lying? Because if you are, I’m done with you. I have no reason to lie. If you think it’s impossible to get 10 armored scale in 15 minutes using the buff by killing sharks I ASSURE you it’s not. I’m not even farming that hard. I’m sure you can get MORE.
Yeah, about that one buddy. I sat in waters all around southsun, not one single location and farmed. 4 armored scales, in 1.5 hrs. I have 297% Mf as well (with the buff). Again, you must be the luckiest gw2 player on earth if we are to believe your precursor story and now your armored scale story..10 in 15 minutes? Sure.

Other people have gotten and posted similar results, with a lot more detail. Some hours they got more, some they got less. So maybe not the luckiest huh?
Farmers got owned.
I have my legendary (Sunrise), I’ve not farmed any spots with the exception of maybe Potent Venom Sacs in Mount Maelstrom for about 10 hours and some Plinx (never did the camps in Orr as with a Mesmer it was impossible for me to tag anything). Invalid argument spotted. I’ve not ran CoF p1 more than once a day. I’ve never exploited Arah Path 3 (?) Boss 1. I’ve never looted any precursor.
Casuals should stop waste time complaining and start playing instead.

Invalid argument spotted. I’ve not ran CoF p1 more than once a day. I’ve never exploited Arah Path 3 (?) Boss 1. I’ve never looted any precursor.
Casuals should stop waste time complaining and start playing instead.
So…how did you get the mats you needed?
If you didnt farm for any of them, and didnt run CoF more than once per day and you never looted a precursor, how did you get one? Im guessing you purchased it all through the AH…but how did you make that obscene amount of money? Do you have an endless spring of disposable funds to buy gems, convert to gold and then buy? Or, did you acquire all of this relatively early in the game before the precursor market and the mats shot up through the roof?
Because Im calling BS on this one.
Yep exactly. They have when it comes to content, however DR does affect everything. I agree that they don’t have as many nerfs to the farming in dungeons as they do in the open world which is yet another testament to the new dungeon focus in this game.
LS and the standard content since launch could easily make up for this. they could give us bags from daily completion or even the T6 mats themselves or from map completion or T6 mats from the open world chests at the end of jump puzzles but nope they are trying to make it insanely difficult and at this point it’s become obvious that it’s about the gem to gold conversion.
Every day there is a kill 40 mobs in a specific area or 25 under water occasionally for the daily. Are you telling me you kill a handful of mobs then wp out to a new area to kill more until daily is complete? I find that hard to believe. Everyone farms in one way or another. Just some refuse to admit it.

That’s what I’m seeing there’s a ton of people who’ve been here since headstart long before the loot nerfs hit in November (and yes there are dev posts about them “adjusting drop rates” around that time period) who’ve been sitting around on money for a long time now.
Some of which got a precursor when they were handing them out at the first karka event, where these same people abused the login design of the game and stayed in their party at the end of the event to login to as many characters as possible and run up to the chest from the big karka boss to get multiple precursors in one sitting.
Then they proceed to come onto these forums and place farmers in the same likeness as gold sellers. It’s sickening.

Ive been here since beta..2 or something. Head start and all. I simply missed the karka event that weekend because I had a lot going on THAT weekend. And out of all of the weekends throughout the year, that had to be the weekend where bugs were soaring and as a result, precursors were given out like candy on haloween..and yes, I had to miss that.
My luck..along with the rest of my bad luck in getting a precursor to drop from a mob or chest.
Hes not lying lol…
My best 30 min shark run gave me 24 t6 scales, and I usually average 10-11 per 30 mins.
Try killing groups of 5-6 not 1 by 1 :P
Before the reef spot was nerfed I was able to get 12 powerful bloods in 30 minutes. That’s not including all the other goodies around there. Certainly possible.

Not all got precursors from that event … I certainly didn’t ..
Really, you did not miss much, the entire event was an epic fail, with tremendous lagging, and numerous disconnects.
The most interesting part was all the raging on the forum for days after. The moderators were kept very busy …
I just logged out of the game after playing for an hour. I have never felt this empty about this game. Should I have continued farming after all that nerf? Maybe. Should I have done some other things in-game as Anet desire us to? Divided game time between open world/dungeons/wvwvw? Maybe.
I cannot explain it in words but I just decided to log out instead.
I feel like this is starting to be one of those endless races between developer and players. Developers intends something for their game, players play it a different way, and developers change the game. Players find another way to play it differently, developers change the game again. It’s almost as if they are FORCING people to play only one way, and the game play diversity is the diversity that the developers dictate players to have.
It’s a really beautiful game but the changes are starting to feel really dictatorial.
The answer to farming isn’t destroying farming spots, it’s making the areas equally rewarding. One big thing they could do is remove the junk items from the loot tables, they do nothing but pollute it. There are many options for equalling the reward tables for materials, the bags are fine, but there are definitely far more creative ways to distribute these materials than just having sharks drop armored scales. There really isn’t a good reason to keep adjusting these material drop rates, it’s a really dysfunctional way at balancing an economy.

That’s how I felt after they nerfed grub farming. I felt lost. Then I heard malchor farming was available and hopped on that for 2-3 weeks.
With that gone, and southsun farming being nerfed, there is nothing I want to do in game.
Arenanet doesn’t want you to play how you want. They want you to play how THEY want.

That’s like saying that spitting out a pit and having it germinate into a seed is farming in real life. I’m playing the game, and I’m enjoying myself and I accumulate stuff. I dont’ farm, because farming implies intent. You can SAY I’m farming, but I’m just having a good time running around. It’s the difference between setting out to do something or something happening incidentally as a natural result of playing the game.

Actually, this time Vayne is almost right.
I just got out from the shark spot near Crab Toss island with 5 armored scales in 15-20 minutes…
So he probably overexagerate to prove his point, but i can confirm that’s one got spot for farm.Wich now will be nerfed to death because ANet want us all autoattacking dragons and behemoth in their “revolutionary” Dinamic Events…
The RNG gods definitely smile down upon you because I farmed that area last night on the BG server my home-world and after an hour or so only managed to acquire 3 “armored scales”, 10"large scales", a few whites, some blues, 4 greens and 1 yellow. Maybe it’s a server thing, maybe your on the RNG gods server.
If you guys are talking about skelks, that got nerfed a few days ago..

Yea, man!
“How THEY want” was fun up to my 60 dollars worth. But now, anything more would be like robbing me of my time.
2-3 months to legendary, still reasonable. Maybe throw in some new content, I’d pay for those molten and consortium harvesting tools -they’re about the best content they’ve come up with for months.
But now they telling me the ship has sailed for people who can farm for a 600g precursor when I’m halfway there. And I’m like, “Sh!t, man, I’d be kitten ed if I spend anymore time playing this sh!t”

This is exactly how I view the game now…dictatorial and adversarial. It’s why I flatly refuse to buy gems no mater what they put up on the store.
