ANET doesn’t have to do these onetime events … they don’t even have to give us brand new content every month … they are trying to make the game interesting and and make the world feel live. Is it fair that not everyone in the world can make these events? No, but life isn’t fair. It’s just a game. Please stop complaining and just grow up. No I can not make EVERY event. I have a job, wife, and 2 year old daughter. If I miss an event so what. Asking ANET to stop all onetime events cause you can’t make it is completely selfish. Yes, SOME people got precursors from the event then again SOME people got precursors the first time the dropped a few exotics into the mystic forge, it happens.

It’s completely selfish to have ONE timed events in NA prime time and not in another time as well. Ultimately ANet will lose big on this – so does it matter, no, lets move on.

Not signed, I want more one-time events out in the open world, not instanced at-your-leisure-just-for-your content (there are several other games for that).

If I may twist your meaning, I DO want them to design the events differently in the future. Should run from fridays for 9 days with like 3-4 phases during that, so the beginning and end fall on the weekends. Have the phases be long enough so people can schedule for it easier if they want to. Halloween was good in that regard aside from the video sequence you had a day or more for each step.

Weekends are different for everyone. Today’s event happened on a Monday morning for me. When I got to play in the afternoon I was surprised to find an event happening on a specific overflow. When I eventually got there after an hour, followed by another hour or so, we got booted by a new build. I missed out.

I fully agree with the original poster.

I suggested running it for over a week with the first and last phase covering a weekend (not 2 hours on a specific day) because of the reason you are describing. There will always people unable to make it because of life, but thats how life works.

I’m someone who’ll frequently defend ArenaNet and the design decisions they make in the name of their epic ideas. The Lost Shores event sounded incredible, and I raced home from work on Friday to participate. Here’s how my weekend went:

Phase 1 – The initial LA lag-fest was pretty bad, to the point that it reduced the audience of friends socialising in my room to hysterics at the 45+ seconds of skill lag, random teleporting, appearing/disappearing character models and pretty much every other aspect of the “unmissable” event I’d been banging on about. Oh well, I got my contribution (eventually) and headed into Fractals with my guild. Fractals is brilliant and, barring a little design tweaking needed for some of them (Swampland fractal, I’m looking at you.) I think this is the best piece of content added to GW2 so far. I also completed all of the event quests that I was able to, but Noll was completely broken, so that stopped dead. Ho hum

Phase 2 – Arrive at LA with 20 minutes to go. Everyone waits around until 8PM GMT hits and… nothing. Except the event text changed slightly. Cue 10 minutes of searching for what changed until someone notices the half-constructed Trebuchet and the entire mapful of players head over to it. The forums suggested that “something” was going to occur so we waited… for another half an hour, until out of nowhere, the Trebuchet crumbled into dust and suddenly the harbour was open. Riiiiiight. It seems as though our server completely skipped over the world event, so that was a big waste of time. The initial push into Southsun Cove was by far the best bit of this whole event and went very smoothly indeed, rendering me all the more baffled as to the complete write-off that was…

Phase 3 – Travel to Southsun Cove with 15 minutes to go and join my guildies in the overflow. The server seems busy, but no more so than it had been the day befiore, so spirits were high. When the event kicked off, we gleefully ran up the ramp to the newly opened cavern and… nothing. It was completely empty… for me at least. I’m hearing stories from my guildmates of fighting epic (if super laggy) battles against the Karka as the first disconnect hits me. Relog, and I’m dead. Respawn at the Waypoint and run back… huzzah, players and particle efects! Except my skill bar isn’t responding, and everyone’s running in a staright line straight into walls… disconnect. Repeat this another 6 times over the next half an hour until I’d had enough. I had to give up on something I’d been looking forward to all weekend because it was completely broken for me, only to hear 2 hours later of the fantastic rewards bestowed on my luckier guild-mates for their participation.

My computer easily kicks out 60fps on maximum detail in everything but the most intense WvW events, and throughput tests on our very fast broadband just after I gave up showed it wasn’t an issue with our line, which leaves it down to the server. Now I hear that people have been handed multiple exotics for minimal participation in this event and I can’t help but feel a little upset.

I love the concept behind this event, I love the scale of it, but the fact is that the GW2 servers are blatantly incapable of handling the weight of your design concepts. Why couldn’t the overflow player limit just have been capped at something more sensible and the HP of the enemies down-scaled to ensure everyone had a responsive, fun encounter to enjoy?

The fact that I spent so much time doing the pre-event questlines only for them to be too broken to finish, leaving me without even a vanity item to show for my efforts just irks me further. I get that I’m probably not going to see any reward for my efforts, but what I’d like more than anything is one of the straight talking statements ArenaNet are usually so good at that acknowledges the problems with this event, and more importantly the steps that they intend to take for future ones to avoid a repeat of this.

I love this game, but I just can’t ever see myself committing to another live event unless I know that something significant has changed so that everyone who’s dedicated their time and energy to taking part can actually enjoy the content.

First part of Stepping Stones puzzle was terrible. I couldn’t see the platforms, and when I could see them the timer was too slow for me to make it. I tried for hours. Speed boosts helped some, but not enough to really make a difference.

I finally gave up and got to the 2nd part with a shortcut and being able to jump on top of the geyser towers (not the platforms) until I made it to the 1st ship. That’s the only way I could complete the puzzle.

Going forward, could you do 2-pronged JPs if you want to have a timed portion? One way up that’s timed, and one way that’s not. That way players with the super-wrists and reflexes can have their timed fun, and players who take things more slowly can also finish the puzzle. It’s a win-win for everyone.

I really liked the puzzle after I got past the geysers, but the geysers were really obnoxious.

EDIT: And in the future, please put in enough rewards to cover the cost of 1 or 2 repairs please. It’s really disheartening to fall, pay to revive, pay to repair armor so you aren’t naked, finally finish and not get enough to break even.

Love the map and new enemies. It’s nice to have another enjoyable level 80 area (I don’t care for the look and feel of Orr)
The jumping puzzles are fun – one hard, one easy
Hate the sand worms quest. Far to easy to die. Enjoyed all the other quests I’ve encountered so far.
Love the mini dungeons. I worry about finding a group for the scaled dungeons later on as they become less popular.

I enjoyed the story line of the event, and the reward. At 2+ hours, it was too long. 1 hr would have been good. Many of the enemies took too long to kill. I enjoyed that the enemy occasionally pushed us back a bit. I liked the strength of the enemies – plenty of people dying, but not so many as to prevent progress. I didn’t like that I couldn’t see the enemies most of the time – perhaps a smaller limit on the number of people in a zone would have helped.

Envy is not a good advisor…

You should think it through the end! Never doing another one-time-event will mean that the player who didnt have time for the shore will never get the chance for an one-time-event.

But when ANet will do another event, maybe at a different time, u will get the chance to participate! (And then maybe me not… who cares)

So in my opinion one one-time-event every 3 or 6 months would be better for everyone! It would generate more possibillities for the player.

Anet needs to come up with a permanent event that offers a similar chance at getting a precursor or the multitudes of rares and exotics to everyone. It may not have all the cool cutscenes or need the same massive amount of people, but make it challenging and big enough that everyone can enjoy it and have a shot at it. If they can put a timer on Ori and Ancient nodes then why can’t the loot chest from a permanent event not have a long timer? Once a week, or once every other week to loot a chest at the end would be nice. At the least let such an event run for a month then cancel it so people with commitments can have a chance.

yeah just to join the unhappy chorus:

I opted to send this report because of yesterday´s event. It was greatly expected, but at least for me, it didnt work. I got so much lag, and a lot of disconnections (with a good internet band), that the event was totally unplayable. The results were just a loss of time and in-game money. I made me even more sad to know that some people did get to finish the event with good rewards, and the more i tried the more the game would freeze during those moments. After a time I just gave up. i dont want the items, or the money i lost. I just want to keep playing a good game that doesnt dissapoint in such a manner as yesterday.

I want to add this out there.

I love the way the community tried to come together and help others get to the event. I understand some still were not able to do it even with the help. But regardless this community was far from selfish. So many wonderful players tried and helped others get to an over flow where 5-6 hours later they could do the event.

Thanks goes to them, as well as A-net having the overflow to allow us a chance at it. This a community of great players willing to help each other! It says a lot about the player base.

As rough as this event was; it had a lot of good. For every bad there is a silver lining. The players for me this weekend were the silver lining at the end.

My hats off to them.

I can see what you are saying here and really agree with it, everyone banded together as one and fought one crazy battle, no matter how hard it got we picked each other up and went on.

It’s just a pity we were not REWARDED as one, to put it in a way that is easy to understand…

Everyone is standing over the corpse of the ancient karka, minds going numb from the insane battles that took 2+ hours, unable to focus on them because of the loading in Champion Karkas that give almost the entire group the most feared move in GW2 history “The flying Karka Teabag” and MORE, but they did it. The chest spawns and they get their rewards they worked so hard for, the unique perma account bound ring, the 20 slot box, some get exotics they can’t even use but for a moment it doesn’t matter, they had a fun battle. Then all of a sudden one player gets Dawn, the others thing “Wow, that’s pretty lucky..”, then another and another and another until the chat is getting flooded with it. Those who didn’t get it are feeling pretty left out as all these people got it. Then, just to kick them in the face someone pipes up and asks “I got one too, what’s so good about it”, that player with the “upscaled” arrow that just turns out to be a trial account just got a precursor too, compared to someone who may well be in the left out bunch that has sold their soul to Zommaros trying to get one.

You see the problem here?

I wanted so hard to enjoy this event and indeed I may have, if it had been in any way playable for me. Friday’s event lagged so badly that I could not play. Spells did not cast for 2-3 minutes, then all of a sudden I’d die due to a mob that ate my face some time previously, but I couldn’t see it at the time. Got no credit for the event as I was not able to hand in the few shells that I’d managed to loot when the game was vaguely playable. Those were the minute or two I had after the four or five disconnects I experienced during the time.

Saturday was better, but not by much. After waiting patiently for the trebuchet, I got the message to go to the island. I think I missed something here? Regardless, I actually managed to get to the island and make the push inland. Incredibly laggy again, but at least stable this time.

Sunday. Knowing the problems I’d had in LA on Friday and Saturday, I moved my main over to the island ahead of time, dropped settings to minimum and disabled everything on my system that was not essential to the running of the PC. Unfortunately once the event started, I got exactly the same problems as the LA event. I couldn’t see mobs or where other players were. Spells would not cast due to massive lag and constant disconnects. I persevered to a spiral ramp, I think, but I had no idea what was happening around me, just spammed AoE in the hope that I hit something. After the n th disconnect, (or what I assumed was another disconnect, everybody that had finally appeared on my screen was running into the walls for 3 minutes, except for one warrior who was spinning on the spot all that time. It made a change :P) I alt-f4’d and ran Terramorphous a couple of times on Borderlands 2 with a friend who was having similar issues. He didn’t drop anything useful either!

I am disappointed to have missed so much of the weekend, even more so now that I find I have missed out on the reward chest at the end.

I would like to say that I liked the idea and had I actually been able to participate in the majority of the content, I’m sure I would have enjoyed it. Unfortunately the reality of it has left me feeling less than excited for future events like this.

New Dungeon – Fractals of the Mists – I have enjoyed it very much. I hope to see more similar dungeons depending on team’s cooperation rather than brute force.

Critics:
1) Disconnected/crashed player is usually unable to rejoin his team in the Mists leading to bad situations where either his/her team restarts full dungeon level or leave him/her stranded and try to progress without him/her. Very bad thing, please solve it.
2) Urban fight part lags for many players, including those with good PC.

General story: nice idea, but felt bit short and unexplained deep enough.

Critics: great problems with certain NPCs on most servers led to spoiled experience.

New Zone: interesting idea, entertaining puzzles, new kind of enemies who force players to use their brains more than the usual stuff.

Critics: zone feels bit empty for now, most people will complete the puzzle and go away due to harshness of the environment. I suppose it’s only part of Sea of Sorrows zone, looking forward for more!

Event Phase I: Lion’s Arch defense – overall good idea, but…

Critics: lagfest, hard-hitting invisible monsters while being unable to use skills properly.

Event Phase II: Conquest of the Island – nice idea, have enjoyed it as soon as I’ve left the zerg and went exploring in a small group

Critics: zergfest.

Event Phase III: Ancient Karka fight – very interesting idea of major boss event, but…

Critics: too long Reinforcements phases with 2 Champions in the end. High repair bill for many people who did not stay at range or who lagged well enough to die. Unbalanced phat lewt: some people chose to go as lowbies, some people got Precursors, some people crashed.

I have ENJOYED the event and I’m very glad I’ve participated in it. My friend who was playing lowbie alt was extremely happy with it as she viewed it as a great challenge.

Suggestions:
Tactics not Zerg. Please make further events as more multiple instances for less amount of players, let’s say 20-30 players max. Appropriate stats of the monsters and usage of tactics will lead to greater experience.
Phat lewt-wise, please count players “achievements” during the event for it considering phat lewt. Players who have played all parts and spent 3+ hours in the event should get better rewards than those who have joined during last 5 minutes. Achievements should be available to players who have crashed/disconnected as well.

Once again – thank you very much for the event! I’m looking forward to next ones!

The solution is really simple, and it’s already built into the game.

“One time” event does not need to be limited time event. What you do is you make the event into a one time instance where people who haven’t actually done the event yet are put into version A, and those who have done the event are put into version B. If someone who has done the event wants to group up and help out other people, that should be allowable, but without anything other than the normal dropped rewards.

Just because it is “one time” doesn’t mean it needs to be limited time; that is the lesson I want to be taken away from this debacle. What Anet could do is accept that the servers just cannot handle the events as they have crafted them and instead focus on creating content that is for a group of 15-20, rather than a group of 50-75. I know that it is more epic to have tons of people and tons monsters, but what is in no way epic is dealing with such horrendous lag and model culling that I don’t see half of the stuff going on 10 feet in front of me.

Anet, please… part of what made GW1 so much fun was the instanced system that gave any player the feeling of seeing content as it was happening. There was a sense of story and achievement. I really enjoyed that, and so did a lot of other players, to my understanding. I think you should be using that well honed technique to greater advantage in GW2. You have a fantastic base to work from, use it.

I am signing. Not only is the one time event unfair for the players in the different time zone, it also pushes everyone into those servers to play the event. Leading to the many crashes and disconnects. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the event and would prefer the karka over the risen any day, but that was only when I was able to play for more than 30 minutes without being disconnected.

I’m sorry but the posters who keep commenting on the ‘moaners’ or ‘haters’ seem to be missing the point. There would be much less complaining and much more praise for Anet had we been allowed to play the actual amazing content and ‘great Ancient Karka fights’ and join in on the ‘friendly appreciative chat’.

But you know what us thousands of oceanic players got? We go to sleep, we wake up (event started around here some time?), we go to work (it’s a Monday), we come back from work, we log in… We heard all about this ‘fantastic event’, loads of people got Ascended gear, and 20 slot bags, and even precursors!! Now, I know there are a lot of patient, tolerant, good folk out there, grats to them for their good character. But you know what I truly felt? Disappointment. I was disappointed by Anet and how they handled this ‘one time event’.

I don’t mind if there are some of these cool events, and I’ll suck it up and say ‘ok Anet can’t cater to everyone, fair enough, we still get awesome other content’. But you know what isn’t ok in my mind? That Anet makes this big deal about this amazing one time event that you absolutely shouldn’t miss out on, and then make it impossible for us to be there. And that they hand out some of the most expensive and hard to obtain items in the game, and loads of other goodies etc only to those who can actually make it, as though missing out on the event wasn’t bad enough. Then to hear about how you totally loved this just rubs the salt deeper into our wounds.
That’s how I feel and that’s why I’m posting.

Glad you had fun though.

I think its unfortunate that the event was not laid out better for all time zones. Its a legitimate concern and I hope after Halloween and this they get it straight in future events. But realize that all those “it was fun, stop hating” posts are mainly about all the precursor rage and envy and not about time zone complaints, although those get dragged into the argument quickly. That isnt helping the oceanic players either because their legit concern is drowned out by the loot haters. The last thing I would want is Anet taking the wrong lesson from this and the volume of precursor complaints might do that.

I was online during all three big one time events, but with the first one (attack on Lions Arch) and the third one (Ancient Karka) I had so much trouble with server lag that I kept disconnecting all the time, and gained no rewards for my efforts whatsoever, while I made great losses because of the constant deaths that happened because I kept logging into overflows which were still full of monsters.

My suggestions:

  • Reduce overflow sizes for events like these so players with slower connections can actually participate.
  • Save event contribution even if a player is logged of and reward them the next time they log on.
  • Give everyone that was online in Southsun Cove during the final event another chance. There probably is a way to exclude the players that already got their rewards from trying again.

Putting everybody in the same basket disregarding their (valid) arguments of their disappointment = want to look cool?

Next time, try harder. I can agree that people can complain a lot, but if you take the time to read their concern, you actually find out that a big amount of them are constructive and have valid reasons to be sad/mad.

Thank you Arenanet for a great gaming weekend topped by a great time at the last event last night (for me in the UK). It was so much fun to play with so many other players all rushing around trying to help each other and complete the event. Even if you died that was always someone to ressurect you almost instantly. Certainly there was a lot of friendly appreciative chat after the ancient Karka was defeated.

I hope that Arenanet realise that 95% of the people had a great time it is just the 5% moaners that dominate the forums.

Thanks very much

Ramélie

I agree with this 100%

My overflow of whatever the max number of people in an overflow is (200?) ALL had a great time. There was literally only 2 people that complained at all, and once we got to the final event and then the loot chest they weren’t complaining they did a complete 180 and said they had a lot of fun.

Sorry , what part of this event required strategy to be done, does this mean without strategy we would have failed and not be able to finish it… I bet the whole event could have run on an totally empty server and still be completed …

Yeah, one-time events were one of a number of poor design decisions made in this content roll out. You cannot promote an event of this supposed magnitude and then structure it in a way that excludes-or-greatly-inconveniences a fair percentage of your customers.

Or, you can, but expect those customers to be fairly kittened off. There’s a lot of reasonable suggestions in these threads on how to make the game experience better. I hope ANet seriously considers these suggestions.

So just because we didn’t have to pay for it gives an excuse for half assing the rest of the update? If they just released Fractals of the Mist and the jump puzzles it would have been just as fine. This is just my opinion but if you are going to release something make sure everything is the same quality as the rest because Fractals is amazing while the rest of the update was executed horribly. PEOPLE you were told when the event was happening. If you couldn’t have been there sorry, but to bad.

You do not have to pay a monthly subscription for this game. They run events like this when the servers are at the highest concurrency. In other words when the most people play. Stop complaining or don’t play.

Okay, sure, but why on -earth- should those one-time events have guaranteed rewards worth ~30 gold and possible rewards worth up to 200 :T

You guys are blowing those rewards way out of proportion. Very few people got those rewards. No one in my group got anything worth more than 20 silver. They were definitely not guaranteed.

That event should have had them guaranteed though. It took way too long. I find it hilarious people are complaining they missed it. The people who did the event are complaining they were in it.

Uh, 20 slot bags are 12 gold and the karka necklace requires 1000 karka shells, each of which are 2 silver on the trading post

Which is not to mention the exotics and chances at precursors

Also they are no longer 2s they are 1s50c. But anyway you are saying the item is worth 20g. HOWEVER: Both of which are account bound so you really can’t count them as worth 12g or 20g. You can’t sell them you have to use them.

Personally not a fan of the necklace and I won’t use it on either of my level 80s. May eventually use it on one of my other chars.

THANK YOU ANET for running an awesome event.

I agree with the OP. With the way this event was handled you are saying to us that casual gamers do not matter to you. You are telling me that I have to tell my 8 year old to drive himself to swim practice because I have gaming event to attend. You are telling people to have their 4 year old get a job to pay for their own food, because its more important for their parents to skip work and attend your event. Thanks for making this game for just power gamers and telling everyone else to go screw themselves.

Thanks a lot arenanet for breaking your promises.

A one time event is fine if it occurs all day in my opinion, which is what I thought would happen like Halloween.

I often have to work Sunday (usually during the afternoon) for a half-day so I unfortunately had no choice to miss the event. I wasn’t about to do something foolish like call out sick or take the day off. I get a very nice amount of OT on Sunday, not taking it particularly before the Holiday season would have a negative effect on not on my job but my finances. I was able to log in both before and after this small window of time, but in both instances the event had either not started or was over.

Despite attempts to find overflow servers, I was unable. I was basically locked out of the event because I had to choose a game over my livelihood. I’ve been very supportive of ANET since the start but this is starting to all leave a bad taste in my mouth.

First the halloween chest fiasco, then this. It feels like two strikes in a row…I’ll give you until next month to get a hit with the Christmas event. Please don’t keep letting me down, I really want to like your game and play it for a long time but you keep doing things that just boggle the mind.

I’m fine with one-time events. In fact I’d like to see more of them. I know it sucks if you can’t make it, but that’s life…

For some reason I doubt you’d have the same opinion if the event started at 5am GMT on a Monday.

Only you don’t know my circumstances, and you’re wrong.

The reality is there is no perfect time for everyone to do this stuff… so the choice becomes NEVER do this stuff, or do this stuff and accept that not everyone will be able to take part.

One-time events are preferable to never seeing the world change.

It’s not like those are the only 2 options though. One time events are fine, but they can be ran at different times for different time zones. Yes this means America gets to see content first, but at least everyone gets a more reasonable chance to join in.

I’m GMT and I managed to participate in all 3 evenings, but I think anyone much further east of me really was hard done by.

These things should have been thought about and implemented in advance of being released, it’s not like this is the first MMO and this sort of thing hasn’t been seen before, other MMOs manage it better. Same in terms of being able to hand out items to players when they do rollbacks etc, been done for years in other MMO, vital to the game when you have so many rollbacks and people being cheated out of hours, but it’s all reactionary and coming soon but not soon enough.

Except that in this case, having them happen one time is the ONLY way they make sense.

Unless you have a good in-world explanation for how a lighthouse can be destroyed, re-built, and destroyed again twelve times in a day? Or how about the massive amounts of destruction that were necessary to drive the ancient karka back into his lair?

Face it, sometimes having something happen ONCE is the only way it’s going to make sense. You can rationalize it as being all about the players and maybe that’s fair to say, but you can’t possibly rationalize it from any sort of in-the-world sense. And that’s precisely why they’re doing one-time events in the first place: to make changes to the world that people can witness and say “I was there”.

You’re not always going to be present when one-time events happen in real life, I don’t know why you’d insist on always being able to show up for one-time events in a fantasy world either. What, because it’s fantasy doesn’t mean it has to be realistic? One of the few things going for this game still is its realistic and life-like world.

It’s also one of the only promises in their Manifesto that I’ve seen them sticking to: a world that changes based on the players, and STAYS changed rather than the big bad boss respawning every hour. I wouldn’t ask them to change this because I’d be asking them to do precisely what every other MMO does, and they’re already getting too similar to other MMOs for my tastes.

But that’s not their only option. They already have a mechanic to repeat one-time events from GW1. It was called the scrying pool (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Scrying_Pool), and it let you relive past events and watch past cinematics. They just need to bring that back, and it wouldn’t matter if an event is past.

Or make the Ancient Karka part of a Fractal? Problem solved: you experience it again and you get your one-time loot.

I liked earlier Phases of the weekend. Things like the whales and the mysterious posters gave a good sense of build-up. I missed the karka attacks on LA to my disappointment but there are videos of those. ArenaNet fixed the scavenger hunt bugs quickly enough and it made my character explore some new areas which is the point to scavenger hunts.

The Mists of the Fractals is an amazing dungeon and I’m looking forward to playing through it more.

Phase 3, however, was a not well done and far below the level of quality I have seen in every other part of the game. I really hope that ArenaNet learns from the multitude of mistakes ranging from the basic design to overall implementation of the Lost Shore one-time finale. The long list of problems with it can be found in the stickied feedback thread.

It would be extremely depressing if they believed that praise represented the real majority of feedback and did the same thing all over again.

I’m against one time events because I couldn’t participate at all due to the massive lag. So either fix your servers/give multiple overflow servers/districts or don’t create events only a minority of people can enjoy, because your technology can’t seem handle it yet.

Don’t get me wrong, the idea is great, but the execution is a disaster!

Copy and pasting this from another thread

The reward table was just so badly messed up.

Either Anet has to get these one time events running nearly perfectly or at least(actually even better) have them run for 24hours to cover all time zones and so that everyone can have an equal go at it. I do not like the fact that some people were able to do this one time event 2-8 times or more while others(either due to lag or another time zone) had no chance or just simply had bad luck trying to get the chest at the end.

So main changes I would like to see in the future for these types of events:

-Have them run 24hrs to cover all time zones and give all players better chances to attend the event(I’m est so don’t say I’m biased)
-Work on the culling and make enemies first priority
-Have diminishing rewards for accounts that have already opened the chest so that people can not farm the event with alt characters to make prizes more fair(people will argue against this but oh well)
-Lastly optimization of the servers to handle such an event, many people were suffering lag while not even attending the main event

Just my suggestions.

Actually, they owe you more than kitten regardless. The game is not free, never has been and probably never will be. It cost $60 and there was an implied agreement that it would be provided in a working condition available to the people who forked over the dough.

I cannot begin to imagine how little self-respect I’d have to have before I started advancing the thoroughly laughable idea that a company gets to completely abdicate its responsibilities to paying customers simply because those customers only pay one time as per the original agreement.

I paid $60 for access to a game. I expect access to the game.

That said, I had access. Horrible, laggy, ridiculously pointless access that resulted in me getting nothing but repair bills after getting lagged out of a two hour zergfest. If I could give up my time slot to some of you folks who missed this event because of other responsibilities I would gladly do so because it was just painfully not worth it anyway.

I think the intent behind this event was good, but the implementation was lacking. Too much tedium in the events for too little reward. Fractals, however, is a nice idea and I am looking forward to doing more of that.

As of right now, my main concern is regarding the event-specific items, such as the skins and the minis. I can understand the reasoning behind removing the Consortium chests from the trading post, as those are fairly specific to the event. But I feel like after the event finally ends, we should still somehow be able to obtain those items, be it rare drops or mystic forge recipes. The zone is still there, the drops should be, too. Or even just add them straight up to the Gem Store, a Consortium clearance sale, if you would.

As it is, most of those items are cost-prohibitive for most people that might want to buy them, either with gold on the TP, or gems for chests with a low chance of actually giving us what we want. I, for one, collect minis, and would like the opportunity to continue filling out my collection, even if it means extensively farming karka. Just give me the option to do so.

Anyway, just my two coppers.

I’m thinking I got lucky – I made about 6 gold from my two named boot drops. Considering this was a one-time event… I would much rather have had Anet spend the time on fixing broken content than introducing limited-time only content that a decent portion of the player base could not attend anyway.

I completely agree with you. They told us: " you can participate in our event now".
And I did, spend in total about 4 1/2hours in it, and the moment the karka felt in the lava I got kicked… getting no reward.

It’s comparable with watching the new James Bond movie and then they cut of the last 20 minutes of the movie and saying: “sorry, our camera is not optimised. Well, kitten happens, have a good day”.

I payed for the complete game, so I expect a complete game.
