Ladders would be nice but lets be honest, the blog post all but says that this is way off in the future. As for the other changes. None of them matter one bit to me. I play to own people or to get owned and not to get shiny gold rewards. What would I use gold for really? lol.
My initial reaction about the rewards is “fantastic, now the rest of the game is opened up to me!” Of course a lot will depend on the conversion rate for glory/gold and tomes of xp.
I’m not so keen about ranks going, but it doesn’t matter that much I guess. I can’t understand from the blog how the ladder system is going to pan out exactly so wait-and-see.
I don’t care that some people exploited to get lots of glory. I would prefer those people had their illicit gains rolled back of course, but the important thing is that now the hundreds of hours in spvp I have played will have meaning across the whole game, awesome.

Skill points. Now we have to UNLOCK skills. Meaning that players who have unlocked those skills will have an ADVANTAGE over those who have not. The playing field is no longer even.
This was so disappointing…..
Maybe Quilja can finally have a level 80…

Okeey, I believe I’ve never posted before on these forums but I take this change to let the devs know that I -love- these changes. I’ve only been playing Guild Wars 2 for a couple of months and I was always watching the PvP section even though I never really played PvP (only like three-four matches). I’ve been doing PvE ever since hoping that I would be lured someday into playing PvP and this is exactly what I’ve been waiting for!
Not only will it encourage me to PvP more often but for the meantime will certainly encourage me to keep leveling my character in PvE going for the ultimate armor, knowing that I will be able to use that armor in PvP (yes I’m talking about the looks, not the stats… I could care less about that)..
For me this update finally ensures me that I’ll be playing GW2 for a long time to come!
the problem so far:
all new stuff is nice but a hit in the face of every serious pvp player since start who hasnt farmed rank or glory.
pve players will has better skins and the advantage to have a bag of coins and already a ton of skillpoints ready. the next thing is the removal of rank. for all of the serious players it has a certain value of experience and how much dedication u invested. so with new system u can be nr1 get some shiny finisher for 1 saison and go on holiday. after u came back u has nothing.
i suggest a compensation for all pvp players based on played tourneys like gold or boost to rank if it goes live. why should not every spvp player who has played xxx tourneys get a dragon finisher if ladders where implemented to show how much pain they gone trought?
It just sucks that ill never make it to the shark finisher now :/

Unless my interpretation is wrong, they are now saying that newly spvp skills will require skill points to unlock.
I know they will add Tomes of Knowledge in spvp, but what about having access to every skill/trait in spvp from the get-go? This seems a step in the wrong direction.
Only ppl affected by this change, will be the new players, this aint a very friendly move, if the intention is to attract more players. -)

Exactly. They just need rank/finishers for tPvP and same for SoloQ and another for hotjoin. Easy fix. But, maybe when they bring in new game modes they have ideas for doing that. At this point who cares. As much that is wrong with the game and all the crying on what they can do to fix it…it’s the best game out there right now. Settling for less is the only option.
if the gold is anything like fractals, you’ll probably get 5 copper per match win.

I don’t think rank should be removed.
Why not hide them from everybody and let it be there for the sake of getting finishers. Just a little something extra on the side to work towards.

Well, I for one am really disappointed. Unless you can earn gold, xp, and whatnot exclusively in tournaments all the pve people will play hotjoin while tpvp remains dead.
Hotjoin heroes get a title based on the rank they farmed in Skyhammer and get to keep their finishers. Okay… Tournament players get nothing, as always.
Seasons at some point in the future that is so far off it can’t be talked about yet. End of 2014?
Still nothing about the reward system overhaul. So what am I saving my tourny chests for again?

All in all, this is probably a great pvp roadmap for hotjoin players. But there is nothing for tpvp in it. What are you thinking ArenaNet?
What makes me the happiest about this is that I can earn levels for my new characters while learning the class in a high octane combat place. I usually make new characters and spend about 10hr+ in pvp to learn the class then take it to pve and faceroll. Now i can jump in at say lvl 40 instead of lvl 2

This blog post helps GW2. A lot of returning PvPers will come back from just hearing about the ladders and new gold rewarding. Who cares about glory farmers, boo hoo.
Glory being removed for gold is the best thing they can do. Your arguments make no sense.

First, let me start by saying that this blog post was great. I have posted many threads over the past year stating what I think should happen to PvP and almost all of them has been done now or has been stated as planned. Obviously, that means I’m happy. I do want to break down how I feel about each one:
Gold and Experience in PvP
Removing PvP and PvE gear difference
Achievements
Setting goals for gear
Glory being retired as a currency
Removing Rank
Ladders
Unknown
So, there are 2 things that I was really hoping to hear in addition to all the other goodies.
In summary, thanks for the blog. I am hopeful for the things to come. I’m mildly nervous for the time frame (next few months) only because of what that has meant in the past. Hopefully the devs will understand our skepticism with that.

1. They’re adding gold (i.e., probably a few silver) to match wins, not match win reward chests… So essentially, all our efforts in pvp, if we were dumb enough to save chests (sitting on 700 tournament chests myself), are worthless…
2. They’re removing rank…. leaving us with deprecated rank titles and finishers… Is that what I’ve been playing for? So, the only reward I could take any pride in (reaching rank 51 legitimately/without farming over a period of 7 months) is worthless…
3. They’re eliminating the distinction between pvp and pve accessories… So, spending months to attain a privileged armor set in pvp can be attained by a few days farming in a pve dungeon. Now, someone with no pvp experience will have the same privilege as someone who spent hundreds (if not thousands) of hours mastering pvp.
Is this how arenanet intends to reward its players? Speaking personally, I find these changes unforgivable, and will likely stop playing this game entirely.

There are too many currencies in this game, that’s for sure, but I don’t think that the pvp-based glory was a problem. It smells of wanting to monetize pvp through gems.
I really really hope they don’t make it so there are no skins that show signs of you being a good player. If players can just buy all the skins through gold that will be very disappointing.

They are trying to do like the government…and unisex..instead they are trying to make no separation from PvP/PvE…I say…Illuminati.
Seems like a lot of awesome changes, like most have said; all will boil down to the implementation and I hope/imagine gold as currency does not mean full access to all rewards (e.g. earn X achievement, can purcahse Y armor set for gold, not: can purchase all armors/weapons for gold from the get-go). Also, agreed about the point regarding pve carry over to pvp - Hopefully armors that can be carried over will also be met with a ’must meet X achievement requirement to wear Y armor set in pvp’. Nonetheless, still some really good/exciting ideas and let’s voice our concerns constructively!

so ppl who played without the exploit a whole year maybe got 500k only will be 40lvls maybe
while an explloiter got 3000000000 glory gets 2 80s and played way less
make it cheap so the exploiters wont even have the chance to be rewarded 100000x more

u can use glory to obtain skillpoints trought tomb of … and with skillpoints u can use them to craft stuff in the mystic toilett to sell on trading post. so skillpoints are worth some gold and with enough glory u can get many skillpoints i guess.
so skyhammer farmers have enough glory. more than normal pvp players. that leads to an advantage.
so /rank emotes will be removed?
Could you imagine if they removed the Dragon emote from HA in Gw1…OMG!!! Only like 5 people ever got that thing.
Wow hang on, so sure the ladders are a nice idea, and I suppose the introduction to earn gold is a nice idea for strong spvp’ers as we weren’t earning anything initially from all the time we spent in there.
However the massive BUT in all of this is that your now going to practically throw our hardly worked for ranks out the window for some reason which still remains confusing to me. This has seriously annoyed me to put it lightly since the ranking system in spvp was far too steep in my opinion in the first place. Even those casual spvp’ers who did their daily every day still took at least 3 weeks to get from rank 35-36….Surely the glory earned should be at a near curve to that of the xp earned in pve, since for some just as much time is dedicated to spvp and far less glory was rewarded in comparison. My question here is what happens to those who just happen to be at rank 45-49 and don’t quite make 50…they miss out on the bear finisher after having spent an incredible amount of time in spvp….THAT is what has agitated me the most.
This blog post seriously restored some of my lost faith in anet. Some of these are restorations of pvp features from GW1, and others are just good kittening ideas.

- Skillpoints required for new skills. I only have one level 80, the rest of my characters are level 2 PvP only characters, I am NOT going to be forced to PvE just to get new skills in PvP!

How unsurprising.
Players demand inside info, players get inside info, player complain inside info is too far away.
And you wonder why nothing ever gets shared.
Whatever this new system has, it should include HEAVY penalties for people who ragequit in the middle of a match. Really unimpressed with how often that happens right now.
I’m deeply concerned about the skill points thing. I don’t PvP a lot, but, having played other games, the philosophical commitment to an even playing field is really appealing to me. Don’t throw that away unless you really know what you’re doing.
My reaction to this pvp preview is mostly confusion.
1- I assumed that “new rewards” meant “additional rewards”. But instead, the ONLY current rewards from pvp (rank + glory) are being removed to be replaced with gold.
2-You’re adding in a new glory vendor that trades glory for levels. Two things wrong here:
A-Glory is being removed.
B-Who knew that levelling up was such a big concern for pvp players? I mean if you’re levelling up to play PvE, then why not just PvE? If you’re levelling up to play WvW, then what is the message here, that WvW is the end-game for PvP?
3- A ladder system is replacing rank. I don’t see why these are mutually exclusive. (also don’t see where this idea is coming from? certainly not the community…)
4- Glory is eliminated so that gold will be the standard currency throughout the game. But this game is full of currencies, will karma and badges of honour also be eliminated?
And lastly, The Burning Question: Do we open our match win chests now, December 10th, or some future date to get the maximum benefit from them?
Also, let’s not forget: New Healing Skills will be added!

Well i am guessing that the removal of glory will occur in february .
So ppl can use these 3-4 months to exploit the solo arena – team arena double rank/glory points , to unlock new ranks finishers and lvl up 1-2 characters to 80
