Pet targeting
ccing pets kitten the owner, c&d on pet to stealth, teleport on pet to better position even if ranger is invis, slowing pet who is chasing you on 1 hp ower 9k range need more?
I hate this so much!
I made a thread about it a while back you might like:

It’s a defense thing for the necro/ranger. There wouldnt be as many minions running around if they took away being able to toggle them, that’s their best line of defense.
It’s good practice to use click target at certain situations where tabbing doesn’t provide you the quick player target. Also helps when fighting mesmers or minion necro when there’s numerous targets to tab through.

how often did you do any of these things? 3 times in your entire game experience? i recently used the thief steal on a mesmer clone to port to high ground. was the first time i ever found it necessary in over 4500 matches. i am just saying remove pets from select next target and select closest target, clicking on pets would still enable you to do those maneuvers with pets we all do so often.

if the mouse cursor was not so invisible that would make it easier. also necro clones and pets sometimes stack on the player and it is difficult to click him. if you are in a fight with mesmers, necros and rangers and you want to target the mesmer, it can be a problem, especially since he can use stealth and remove the call target marker, which forces you to try to click him again and again.
As a ranger I like to target pets and clones for my hunter’s shot since I know they won’t dodge it.
Yes, I have often had to target a pet. There are multiple situations where this is very useful.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Tabbing will always cycle Players first, then pets. If you mess up and tab past players, (firstly, its not the systems fault), just untarget completely and re-tab.

Speaking as a main ranger. I had to forcefully learn to swap pets whenever I stealth using hunters shot during GvGs. Or a thief will use my pet as a spring board to chase me when I drop off his target.
Also having to do the same when a thief is low health to prevent it from C&Ding.
Turning off my pet before engaging so I can force their movement skills to be focused on me (easier to predict and dodge) (guards LOVE to JI to my pets -.- the kittens).
Also as it was mentioned earlier. its a pretty big defensive mechanic for rangers that bother to use it.
Stealthing right as your pet is attacking. Causing them to retab to fight you only to target your pet and use there next skill on it. (that one happens entertainingly often to mesmers. Ty for mirrorblading/shattering/Phantasmal Beserkering my full health pet)
But aye. It IS designed to target players first. So unless your rapid tabbing and you just move past your target. There shouldn’t be any issue.
