I just want to take a second to appreciate Robert Gee. I main necro, and also play mesmer. I really like both of the specializations, and it seems like his team is invested in fixing the problems with the classes while keeping to the themes of the class. Props too him, hope all the other devs are equally invested. Keep it up.

I feel like because they allowed vampiric healing to go through deathshroud it sort of makes up for having regeneration not work in deathshroud even though we can have it stolen or ripped for more damage, or converted. Now that this is in place regeneration can never work in deathshroud

Yeah, the damaged looked decent to me, but all really easy to dodge. Think they were in celestial amulet, so hopefully the damage will be enough to make pve meta. The real strength seemed to be shroud knight cause it looks strong on every build, there is going to be some nasty condition necro builds running around.

I totally agree. Looking at the changes for Mesmer (not just the elite but the trait rework that’s coming before HoT) shows that he’s been listening and paying attention to the ideas suggested on the forums.
Some of the reworks are very similar to generally agreed upon suggestions and even builds that don’t get much attention (boonshare) are getting very interesting forms of play. There are too many often-requested there to simply be coincidental balancing, so I respect the time spent looking through threads or just generally paying attention to our conversations.
You managed to remove traits and still increase build diversity. Much props!

Sorry friend but you really have no choice, we really have no choice. So far I might just hop on the Robert Gee train to necroville. Robert is 2/ 2 on his classes. Both Mesmer and necro look great to most people except lordwholovestorantandhasnothingbettertodothanrant.

Hahaha…good one. I am with Supreme here. I truly wish that the dev working on ele had even the slightest clue what makes the class tick. R. Gee seems to really have a handle on the class, its weaknesses, and ways to make changes that are within the theme of the class while still shifting the playstyle significantly.

IMO, this was close to the LAST thing Necros wanted in a specialization.
Yes…the animations will be “interesting and cool” for a week, but think about the concept overall.
You are creating a “specialization” to have a CLOTH wearing class fight in melee range with long cast times.
I guess it could work in PvE, but NOBODY can run this in PvP unless the modifiers are so ridiculously OP.
From the Point of Interest, it didn’t look like any ability even did as much damage as a Kill Shot (which can be done from range, and adrenaline is much easier to max than LF).
In order to make such a ludicrous combination of cloth melee with no mobility and long cast times work, it’s more likely to be either severely OP or underpowered. The middle ground is impossible to fine tune.
Think about a Kill Shot warrior. How many do you see in PvP? How many can hit their Kill Shot with a long cast time even from RANGE? Imagine having such long cast times for melee? Imagine relying on LF to even be able to execute some of these melee skills compare to how quickly you can build intiative/adrenaline/etc.
Furthermore, in the point of interest, I noted one of the AOE effects could hit up to 5 target in aradius of ONLY 180. That pretty much tells you the Great Sword is strictly for PVE and not PvP .
In PvP, what necro is going to choose to fight in melee range with cloth armor and long cast times. If they do select this option for PvP, then it means the modifiers are super out of whack and/or it’s done for gimmick purposes…much like a Kill Shot warrior.
I could be wrong and equipping a GS could be the new meta, but think about it….You can already build a Chillomancer for melee range without the ridiculously long cast times. Depending on the final numbers, the great sword will either make the dagger extinct…or vice versa.
Thus, what have you really achieved? Maybe a cooler way to animate a Necro in melee using Chill as the primary condition of choice?
At this point, it’s too early to give definitive accolades or rebuke for the specific changes. However, overall, it appears that they chose a general strategy that is opposite of what Necros really wanted/needed.
While I understand your worry, I’m pretty sure what your saying won’t happen. Even if it does I think they will fix it. I’m more encouraged to see something exciting happen with the class than anything. Many players have learned to be very sour about all necro changes, which I don’t think is fair. It isn’t all perfect, but that’s ok.
Also, they had 30k health in the vid, so definitely not berserker, and a lot of their attacks where hitting for upwards of 3k. Getting the scaling right will be as easy as looking at the classes that have good scaling and emulating that. The auto attack on Reaper shroud can now stack might, inflict vuln, and burn enemies while maintaining 100% crit chance through traits alone. I’m pretty sure necros will be self buffing monsters in pve, and the traitline has potential way beyond greatsword and shouts.

The light armor was never the reason why necros should avoid melee, it was the lack of active defenses (dodges, blocks etc), sustain (health replenishing) and stability…
And from the looks of it the reaper will get stability and some sustain (though i admit i dont know how good it will be). But the pulsing stability on a 20 second cooldown (before cd reduction of the most likely mandetory vital persistance) is actually a really good stability skill. This could be enough for the reaper to be fine in melee range.

The only other limiting factor being acces to lifeforce… Though it seems that the traits are reasonable…

- gs is good
- LF generating and shroudknight are great, now with stability and much more engaiging skills all hail Robert Gee
- shouts seemed a little apart from gs and specialzation strong suits, but interesting for necro in global terms, but i got distracted during showing them so im not sure
- lulz at guys judging damage by (im almost sure) sentinel amu
- natural predators will probably remain with still low mobility etc. especially thieves will poop on necro like always, but on what proffesion it will not with changes proposed so far? wait and see, huh? in this case i dont need, thief will dominate if this goes through like this
- animations are kitten cool but too much for pvp to be honest on top with mesmer pinky wells, guardian flashy traps and god-knows-what-else for other classes to not hurt pve single prof player feelings, I won’t ever again see magnet animation in fight, not like it is easy for me know
- overall, as far as necro alone goes, AWESOME

What I think about Necro’s Reaper is,if you can stow your weapon,I think that build has a potential to really play mind games with people. Question is will you be able to play mind games or will you be destroyed first?
I think they really need to give Necro a good portable skill(to get out of fight…I know you got spectral walk or wurm,but both show where you will be) or just up Lifeforce regen and give Lifeforce baseline of 25% to start with.
Robert needs to start doing rangers as well. the prof is in need of massive overhauls, and it’s been progressing at a snail’s pace.

tbh the shouts are bad but at least we can use the existing utilities.
what i really like about robert is that he tries and takes stuff from guild wars 1 and creates something nostaligic but still new.
he took some aspects of interrupt mesmers from gw1 and combined them with the utopia chronomancer into something very exciting.
with the necro he created another nostalgic feeling (dervish) and yet still new specialisation.
if he manages to get the shouts right then everything will be perfect.
as a current elementalist player i’m kinda waiting for believe in karl’s tempest but if that fails.. well.. back to my dervish.. uhm i mean reaper.

Robert can you do some work on making Mesmer Scepter less clunky? We have all these wonderful offhands but cannot take more than 1. You don’t need to buff the power of the Scepter just its responsiveness (it may even need a reduction in power if you do this).
Looking forward to Chronomancer but without a 2nd good Mainhand we’re going to struggle to enjoy Shield.

Also Mesmer, Necro and Warrior got cool names in Chronomancer, Reaper and Berserker respectively as opposed to Dragonhunter for Guradian and soon to be “Dare Devil” for Thief sadface
There was a Robert Gee appreciation thread in the mesmer forums (yes, that’s how much mesmers were impressed) saying a big thank you. Was really good till haters hated.

The art work from Reaper is awesome and I think it will do alright in PVE also but I am not so sure in PVP, not with Greatsword anyway.
May be it can be a really good on node fighter but the Reaper will not able to hit at least 3 people with GS, I guess it is not going to be viable with GS in PVP.
