As 33% of people do not want Skyhammer removed from Solo Queue, a better option would be to let us “blacklist” one map (like in WoW). Giving people the choice of which map (if any) they want to block.

god I hate sky hammer, not even because i die frequently it’s just such an annoying map piled with crap tons of randoms (most not knowing what to do) and plenty of buggy map area’s.

Have you ever been perma-stunned or “bodied” by a random pull from someone pulling you toward them (on those glass droppers) and cant move or do anything? I have multiple times and people abuse it (not many know it yet though).

OFC it should be removed. Anet knows this but they refuse. They also know it isn’t a good map, let’s not be so delusional to think they actually think it is great. Rather, they spent a lot of man-hours making it and they can’t bring themselves to shelve it.

Since it isn’t going away I wish they’d spend a few more hours to clean it up so that it becomes a good/decent map. Revise the hammer to fire faster but make it dodge-able. Remove all the small glass panels and only have the 2 large panels on each side. This might be enough to make the map reasonable.

I play mesmer and I voted for it to be removed…

I don’t even like using focus, and although I use greatsword, I dislike the map in solo queue simply because it is both badly balanced and very buggy at the moment. Heck, for all the mesmer hate, mesmer sword #3 (Illusionary leap) is horribly buggy on this map, more so than any other map or zone in the game for me.

That said, I don’t actually hate the map in general, I think that it’s a very fun and enjoyable hotjoin map where much fun and trolling can be had in an environment where you can only bruise Egos and not leaderboard rankings. However, the map has no place in any matchmaking system that even simply claims to be competitive.

Because in solo queue, player are ranked based on their performance and gain greatly increased rewards for a win, so the pressure for maps to be balanced in such an environment is much greater. Unfortunately, skyhammer, for all its fun mechanics and pretty setpieces, is not in any way balanced. The ability to push/pull someone off the edge of the map, or onto one of the innumerable flimsy platforms over the abyss frequently means that fights are determined not by who plays the best, but rather by who brings the most knockbacks and pulls. Thieves, engineers and mesmers all have fairly significant access to low cast time, unblockable pulls and CCs that allow them to win fights without really even fighting. It is unimaginably frustrating to be sitting on a side point in skyhammer, only to have an enemy engineer stealth, then magnet pull you onto a breakable platform causing your instant, and relatively unavoidable demise. Such mechanics do nothing to promote player skill, co-operation or build diversity, all things that are integral to a healthy PvP environment.

so yeah… that’s basically it. A lot of what you will see is mindless rage, however, there are actually reasons behind the rage, and IMO, anet would be wise to listen to them in this matter.

Their data is how many laughs it produces while watching their player base rage.

@Polismassa: Ah, gotcha. Thanks for the information. During my two visits to that map, I did notice that if I happened to get stunned on one of those glass/energy windows, it was basically instant death, and I thought the grace duration was a bit short.

The “Remove Skyhammer” percentage is actually higher than the poll shows. Keep in mind that many people has quit GW2 because of this map and they don’t visit the forums anymore.

I’m sure, however, that many people would come back if this aberration was removed.

I solo que in the team arena just to avoid skyhammer and spirit watch, as do a lot of people I noticed, pretty rare to see an actual team anymore and being on a team it’s even rarer to face another team on TS

I mostly play for the new Free-For-All arena in PvP lobby.

The skyhammer is not.

Keep the map, but do one or a combination of the following:

- lower the damage
- make evades, dodges, and blocks work against it
- remove the CC
- reduce the radius of the blast
- increase the radius of the points

Now 2000 votes is a representative sample and while I do think the poll needed a “undecided/don’t care” option I do believe it reflects the communities wishes.

68% of your population hates this single map. This means 68% of your customers don’t like your product.

There are many threads in your forums poping up every day about the removal of Skyhammer.

The main skyhammer thread has over 4000 views and many pages filled with complains.

This map is very well known for glory farm abuse and other exploits. There are many other bugs related to knockbacks. Also, sometimes you fall down and you are not killed so you cannot respawn.

Many hardcore PvPers have quit the game and this map was one of the reasons.

Skyhammer was released on July 9th. After almost 1 year the hate towards it is still growing.

Ive been busy as hell and have taken a break from this game for a while now. I have come back, the meta is better, the UI is better, the megaserver thing is awesome. Things seem so much better.

With all that said, how is Skyhammer still in solo que? The outcry has been tremendous and I am very surprised that this issue hasn’t been addressed in some shape or form. That map isn’t fun for a large amount of the community (including myself) and on top of that, Skyhammer games consistently have had more AFK’s, logoffs, and lopsided-noncompetitive matches than any other map in Solo Que.

Please address this issue. Implement a map voting system, or a veto system, or remove it from the solo que rotation. I know people worked a lot on the map and they want it to work but the simple fact is the map is unbalanced and a black sheep among a majority of your core pvp community. We really need some sort of action here

I support this thread. That being said, I couldn’t express how angry I would be if this actually worked. And trust me I want skyhammer gone. However in my opinion, the sheer ignorance the devs have towards doing anything about this map, despite all the threads, despite all the polls like this one is beyond words.

I remember having a argument with Allie about this, and her defense was “well there are only so many people that check the forums, so the numbers aren’t adequate”. My response to that is the runes of perplexity trying to weasel it’s way into Spvp. The community had just as much of a impact on perplexity runes on the forums as our hatred for skyhammer. So why isn’t there a change? What is it going to take? I don’t even know why I try. kitten it.

I would also scale cannon damage to max hp per person, so that damage that tickles warrior doesn’t take 90% of naked ele hp.

The map is great, just not suited for competitive matches. All anyone is asking is for it to be unranked only.

Honestly I’m surprised the poll has such a clear outcome. The map is really fine for every situation EXCEPT the top five or ten percent of solo queue. Below that, no one has discovered the truly troll builds yet, or they have the decency to not run them.

Only really low rated/hotjoin players love it (just look up the guys that are possitive about it). So just keep it in hotjoin and/or at lower rating.

You dont get placed in matches where everyone tries to pull or push every couple of seconds or they arent as slick with it either at lower MMR. So it seems to be less of an issue since you can easily avoid pulls and pushes from guys that dont set it up with stealth or stunns/pindowns.

I played matches at decent MMR where 3 different ppl attempted to pull or push me 3 times within the timespan of 5-10 seconds. Youll feel like somewhat of a pinpong ball at times.

It goes so far that the normal gameplay gets replaced by pull and push gameplay. Where i (as engineer) just run back and forward between close, far and canon and push and pull people off. And there is nothing they can do in most cases (thats the worst thing about it).

I think this experiment has mostly run its course. Thanks to Julie Yann, Jasher, and Locuz among others for helping to keep the thread alive. I didn’t expect this thread to get so many responses, and I didn’t know what to expect with the survey results. I hope the devs find a meaningful way to judge the community’s opinion on skyhammer in solo queue so they can (hopefully) remove it.

Maybe we can get 2,000 votes too.

Anet likely didn’t want to remove the armor stats entirely because…well,
we’ve all seen what happens in games where there’s no disadvantage to taking your pants off.

So I found out from this article that Tyler Bearce and Darrin Claypool are not necessarily the ones to be blamed for the atrocity that is skyhammer (even though they designed it)… but the blame falls on the playtesters.

“We’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from our playtesters,” Bearce says. “Pretty much as soon as we threw this in for testing, our internal playtesters said, ‘This has to go on Live.’”

Claypool adds, “People who have played this map already have been more excited about playing PvP. Skyhammer has a really dynamic, old-school feel; like a Quake map.”

It’s okay to have casuals test these things, but there HAVE to also be competitive/semi-hardcore people among the playtesters. A healthy mix would work best.

Unless you have direct quotes from players on the actual server, you don’t actually know what was said by playtesters. For example, all playtesters say “OH MY GOD THIS IS kitten DO NOT PUT THIS ON LIVE”, on release “playtesters had really passionate and excited feedback on this”. Its PR twisting at worst, at best its simply people seeing what they want to; they did work kitten this map, whether it is competitive or balanced or not, and I can see why players who weren’t thinking “lets throw this in the tPvP queue!” would enjoy the map.

Not trying to say that is what happened here, but this is exactly what happened with Dhuumfire: all the PvPers said it was an awful idea, all the PvE players (and at least some of the WvW players) wanted it. So obviously they threw it in.

I really enjoy sky hammer, even after getting pulled off multiple times by ostrich. The map does have some great escape, evade, and wtf moments that’s its really quite enjoyable. I played it several times in solo que tonight, and it was not an issue for me but others complained. Perhaps it should not be in solo or team que, but the map is definitely fun.
