Skyhammer
There are a couple of ways Anet could go about this;
Keep the map the same, and just remove it from soloq.
Remove the glass panels, and make Skyhammer dodgeable. Leave it in soloq, and possibly add to teamq. Fixing these two things would significantly reduce that amount of frustration on this map.

Immediately get knocked off because some kitten is just spamming knockbacks, not knowing wtf is up.

This map is so frustrating. I have only met one person who has said that they actually want skyhammer in solo q while in game. Gah Anet remove or balance this thing please.
As ppl already mentioned it isnt only for the CC but for the extreme amount of bugs
and class unfairness.
As long as thiefs can instakill you out of invi there (pulling and immobilize on glass)
(and you cant have perma stability with most classes)
As long as you can survive when you fall down (even if the trait is not equipped) , getting your team a 4v5 during the time you need to seek for a wurm tu kill you.
etc etc
And another thing that happened to me only on skyhammer so far is falling completely out of the map (leaves you “swimming” around in the “void”) not even being able to get yourself killed.
Even underwater battle on capricon was more balanced
Last night I caught two teefs crossing while I was headed far. Teef #1 got feared from my Nightmare runes and wound up on that nifty little shelf behind the stairs in the middle of the map. Staff 5 fear and bye bye. Teef #2 tried to run but Spectral Grasp caught him. Flesh golem charged and more points for me.
More Skyhammer in solo q, please!!!
Because…. provided you’re solid with positioning/CC, the first 20-30 matches on skyhammer are fun.
Then it becomes very irritating, very very fast.
I can’t think of one skyhammer match I found fun. Not one.
i had fun playing skyhammer, the first three times. Now i simply wait until another map opens up in the Que.

There is no skill in setting up a build just to continuously knock someone off the grid. The fights are not engaging and not fun at all. Unfortunately, I no longer want to play solo queue due skyhammer ruining my gaming experience. Not to mention using a blaster to destroy large areas. Really diminish someone ability to get into a long term fight over the point and actually show a pvp skill set. It is a very poor choice to have it included in solo queue. I cannot imagine this is the first time anyone has posted this.
The company that made this game doesn’t care about what you, or the majority of the Solo Queue player base says.
Skyhammer stays, because they made it and they think it’s cool. They won’t even give you a mapvote option.
Delete it from everything. Seems they just can’t admit they screwed the pooch on this one.

What I do have a major issue with however, is that bloody ridiculous skyhammer. Unblockable, undodgeable, high damage in an area several times bigger than the actual capture points.
That ridiculous hammer needs toning down and everyone but Anet seems to be aware of this.

My issue is more with the falls then the hammer. I think the hammer is fine, its just another objective to control like the treb and can contribute significantly to the map fight. It’s a unique dynamic to this map compared with the others in GW2, even moresoe then the treb.
The reason I hate all the kitten falls is because when I join skyhammer game.. My team is all switched to thieves who spend the whole time trying to troll. Nobody bothers trying to play the map.. It bores me and wastes my time.
I have had good games on the map when I random luck ended up with a team who tried.

No they aren’t. People have been complaining about Skyhammer for a very long time. Nobody complained about Capricorn (or at least in any volume) and look at what map got removed from the game entirely.
Skyhammer is a map that clearly favours certain classes and specs simply by its design, whether that was their intention or not.
at least im trying my best to have fun with it now.
the new UI and build switching makes it a lot easier than it was before.
when i see skyhammer I am immediately changing to warrior toon and going 4/0/4/2/4 balanced stance, stomp, fear me, and rampage – celestial hambow + melandru runes, and traits for reduced CD on stomp and fear me.
warrior rampage skill is pretty kittening kitten.
There are meta only for that map. The way CC dominates over skills is ridiculous, there’s no way that skills can win over CC on Skyhammer and I still can’t understand why it has been added to the pvp maps. Everything that comes at the end of a skyhammer match is half people raging because of CC domination and half people laughing because they actualyl were just pushing people out of the map, nobody says “kitten , I just had so much fun, this map is awesome!”. While going for team arena or solo arena you can’t even change map, and your party will rage at you if you leave and let them without one member.
Solutions:
- Add invisible walls at the edge of the map.
- Let people filter maps while searching for team/solo arena
- Take down the map

i totally hates this map. people using environment to dominate a match is no PVP. i accept this in WvW but in Spvp? hell no.
Also the people rushing to SKyhammer to Spam 1, totally noobish . I always skip this map sadly even when im in a good team for like 4 or 6 match in a row.

Shame on me but I play decap engi, if Skyhammer shows up. Never lost skyhammer anymore after creating one.

Skyhammer was added as part of the Bazaar of the Four Winds release on July 9, 2013.
We are roughly 6 weeks away from the anniversary of the Skyhammer release.
Will this ‘thing’, with all its terrible anti-fun mechanics, have tortured solo queuers for a whole year?

It’s ironic that we used to have an ankward map-of-the-week system at the beginning, then our (justified) requests led to a random rotation.
If we hadn’t asked for such a basic feature, we could have simply skipped the Skyhammer weeks and enjoyed the maps where you can actually play PvP during the other ones.

Please remove Skyhammer from soloq. It’s silly and annoying how much I have to keep myself from dodging some attacks because I will kill myself by accidental roll over the edge, can’t even use Lightning Reflexes because I will die rolling off the edge

Didn’t really play during the map of the week system very much. But it’d be pretty cool to see if we could get an option to queue for a map of the day. Anet could probably get logistics on map balance with such an option.

Skyhammer is my favorite map BECAUSE of the knockback! It’s the only map I can actually shove an annoying player over the edge without having to spend 15mins trying to nuke him down.

Just give me checkbox options to queue for. On the arenas screen put an options button… Within those options list the maps.. I can put a checkmark for the ones I like, not for the ones I don’t. The system doesn’t match me in game with maps I don’t like.

I have always held the notion that you shouldnt design and make large scale choices in games based upon avoiding “those” types of players. Create the game for the playerbase or their own design ideals.
Once you start playing whack-a-mole with farmers and bug abuses etc, its a never ending game in which those who dont do that sort of thing suffer.
See the music industries attempts to stop illegal filesharing for a perfect example of why its futile. You can add systems in later to combat such things. (lets be honest, there could be an hourly cap on rank points you can get. No more than say 50% of a level in an hour, any more and it just adds nothing. Not saying it should be 50%, whatever number they can figure to be just right.)
OT: Its been done to death at this point, and I think ANet is still sore over the tidal wave of hate Capri got and refuses to give us anything now. For future ANet, PVP needs to be PVP. PLAYER VS PLAYER.
From the first few betas people have begged for a simple arena style map. Hopefully they will put it in a new type of arena queue system. I would love to just fight other players without the stupid stand on the point crap.
I still don’t understand how you people can not like Skyhammer. It’s gameplay is good for breaking up the monotony. And it’s really easy to change your specs (on ANY class) that make it suited for the map/gameplay.

Because certain classes are stupidly overpowered in on a map where it’s possible to oneshot people with enough cc.
On the other end of the spectrum there are classes with almost no hard cc or
stability.
General balance is already pretty wonky (though it got better the last couple of patches). So yeah, on other maps classes are subject to general balance while on SH being paired with classes like engineer is almost a guaranteed win.
I’ve posted before about how Skyhammer is completely unsuitable for ranked play. Why Arenanet openly ignores this fact is beyond me.

I had no clue how to respond to this. This is PvP, of course people are going to tryhard it and take it seriously.
Skyhammer is fine for casual play, in fact I enjoy the map in hotjoin. If someone is running an über-troll build like Focus mesmer or Decap Engineer, I just leave and find a different game. The map mechanics are fun when you aren’t getting demolished in ranked play simply because someone is running a build specifically designed to abuse the map.
The simplest solution to Skyhammer would be to remove it from Solo Queue. However, I think a Map Vote option, where players have a choice to vote between two maps when their queue pops would satisfy the majority of the community.
I recognize there are some people who like Skyhammer in SQ, so these people would still have a chance to play their map if there were enough votes.
In addition to alleviating the Skyhammer problem, Map Vote would end up with more people playing the maps they enjoy more of the time, which couldn’t be bad for the game.

About a year ago we finaly got random maps in tourneys. It was to take a balanced build which is good on all 5 maps, instead hoping for 1/5 spirit watch and being orb runner build.
Now you have new features, enough time to totaly switch character and build for each game. This means, whoever want to abuse maps, can and will do it.
A vote system would be great. Let them play trollhamer 5x times in a row if they all want to.

why would they give it a leaderboard then?
obviously people are going to try hard to climb the lb..
honestly i think a lb for soloq is not the best idea,
it relys too much on random teammates, and luck with compositions.
there would not be as much qq on skyhammer, spirit watch, 4v5s, and matchmaking.
why? because the only reason to play would be for fun, rather than rating.
It would also get ride of the solo q try hards that consider that top tier play because of their leaderboard ranking, and bring those players to team q.
I’m in support of any solution that stops this map from being forced down my throat in solo que. I really enjoy spvp but every time I’m forced into this map it just ruins any fun that I am having.
The faster you realize that this development and the company behind it is just looking for more profit and not for players satisfaction, the sooner you stop posting suggestions. It’s a pure timewaste and will not find its way into the game.
PvP was written off a long time ago. Look up opportunity cost and you’ll have every answer to why this game still lets 4v5 matches happen, why maps most people want removed are still in rotation, and why there isn’t a ladder/season system.
They’re not trying to make a high quality experience – they want to increase profits and get as many sales and microtransactions as possible, which is going to stagnate the game and make an already apathetic playerbase even more so. Even the PvE people are tired of running the same dungeons, fractals, and the same events.
