Skyhammer
People please. Skyhammer is not foefire or forest. You have to learn to play it properly it has its own strategy. At first I raged when I was feared etc… on hammer but with time after learning how to play it….. somewhat lol. I feared etc… ppl. Its frustrating to be winning and then (because you are in a wrong position) get knocked back or feared to your death but thats on you as a player not being aware of your surrounding not the map. Hammer was the biggest issue before not being able to dodge roll but now its playable.
Edit – Don’t pretend when you all fear someone off the map you don’t lol a bit :P
I think there are 2 types of players in PvP. Player A is still below r40, thinks positioning means standing in a corner, and loves Skyhammer because he can finally kill opponents who are better than him. Obviously, player A at this point thinks he’s “good” and tries to convince others about it (and then gets destroyed on other maps by those guys). Player B spent enough time in PvP to realize winning by bypassing combat is not good design and understands why Skyhammer has no place in the rated rotation.
“Another feature we’ll try during our test season is map rotation for Ranked Arena. During the test season, and during future league seasons, Ranked Arena will have a limited set of maps available for more serious competition. During the periods between seasons, the ladder will be reset and all maps will be available for an unofficial and more casual ranked experience.”
I think this means no skyhammer and spirit during the seasons.
And we have map selection too.

don’t forget Player C, hasn’t played pvp as often as other game modes, pretty much knows he/she isn’t great at it, goes on skyhammer, and STILL thinks its a cheap design that needs removed………those players exist too, i should know, i’m one of em XD
Good players know how to change builds to make this map a fun map rather than players who don’t know how to change builds and hate this map because they often find themselves in the pit because a good player put them in there place.
Okay, this is the issue that you really don’t seem to understand:
Many ‘good players’ are posting in this thread, and are very capable of rerolling their build for Skyhammer.
Maps requiring different playstyles and setups are very good things to have in the game, to keep things varied and interesting and prevent a few specific strong setups from dominating the entire PvP meta.
Most of the people who continue to reply to you agree on these things.
However, we feel that Skyhammer’s individuality should not come from an instagib mechanic, and that such a mechanic does not belong in ranked PvP - it belongs in a minigame, if anything.
It’s particularly bad that the way to make use of this mechanic is unevenly spread across classes: control effects are king on this map, but the classes are balanced on their overall combination of damage, control and support and certainly don’t have equal access to each.
Compare the CC availability between Engineer and Elementalist – specced for max access to control skills, the Engi will come out on top by far – but it can’t do the same single-target burst, or AoE sustained damage, as the Ele is capable of. This is variety. This is very good to have. The classes have different sets of roles that they can bring to a team.
The requirement that people respec for this map removes a lot of that variety – if folks are expected to run Skyhammer-specific builds, with their overwhelming focus on control and the mitigation thereof, certain classes immediately become inferior.
This shouldn’t be happen on any map; while varied arenas will clearly encourage use of different builds for different situations, there should be no need to completely change class to be effective on a ranked solo queue map.
Combat is of course meant to involve strategic positioning, and good use of terrain. However, if someone gets a knockback on a foe with full health, they should not then get a kill unless they follow up with damage, from direct attacks or conditions or an ally’s assistance in providing these.
Removing the need for this allows damage dealers to score a free kill without blowing any cooldowns (or spending initiative) apart from the 1-2 used to get their enemy onto the panel. It allows some bunkery setups, like Decap Engi, to get kills on their own while dealing minimal damage – so all of their stats can go into survivability making them far more effective than such a bunker should be.
Please stop saying “just reroll lol” and actually respond to the arguments people are presenting.
It’s been clearly stated a number of times that a lot of Skyhammer haters know about the troll builds, and have run such setups on the map ourselves. We are very capable of rerolling to be more effective on the map, but this doesn’t make it fun to play on.
It’s not a l2p problem on our part.
It’s that instant kills, from builds that have any survivability at all, should have no place in competitive gw2 PvP.
So skyhammer will be no more when the map voting system is implemented, that is the best news I have ever heard in gw2 (clap) for devs.

How about skyhammer has some water below, and a teleporter up to the map?
This way you don’t get to kill anyone, but you delay them for a fair amount of time.
Same effect but you don’t get the satisfaction of the kill.
I think most people here are just annoyed that they got ‘killed’ by a lesser player. If you overlook that fact and play to win the match I think you’ll agree that the lesser player outplayed you on this map.

Yes, wasting months worth of resources just so they can keep a map in rated which’s unfit for rated play is a very smart move, sure.
And without Skyhammer more boredom sets in and people find something else new to do. Maps that require a similar build and skill set allow people who like to memorize a set pattern but only one to cope and do well for awhile till they get tired of it and leave. This is the challenge of listing to complaints for making every thing similar. When people get tired of the routine they quit even if they got what they wanted after a time.
Now I have not done Skyhammer on a 5 man team but am mystified almost on the trouble some people have with avoiding being in a spot that they can be pulled or pushed down a hole. I run a Gaurdian with no stability and only one skill Shield of Absorption that can knock someone down a hole. Well I have twice gotten people to chase me and stop just past a hole and got them to drop because they stop behind me.
I just stay aware and avoid being in spots where you get pushed or pulled. This surviving and wining against opponents that can one shot me easier is part of the fun.
Sort of same with underwater combat which needs to come back to give a new challenge to those who are tired of same old same old maps. I learned to handle 3d combat in space fighter and air fighter games and find the space fighter battle the best challenge. Yes it really hard to get used to at first but that is not a reason to avoid adding to the verity.
I do feel for ARNET make the people who like uniformity happy but lose the players who like a more varied challenge or make the more varied challenge happy and risk losing the uniformity people. My guess it the uniformity people are more likely to stay and deal and complain about un uniform maps than the people who like different things but or more likely to quit than complain. But that just my opinion.
Just one question to Anet…if the map is so good and raise no major balance issue…why not putting it on tpvp ?

I came to see if anyone was talking about this, because I expect the opposite: It’s only going to be played now if the team voting is all specced for Skyhammer. Pretty good way to ensure you win 100% of your matches: everyone get on your bearbow ranger and decap engi and vote Skyhammer.
I complain about Skyhammer literally every time I enter the map, even when I’m on my own characters that are good on it. I find myself apologizing after the match is done for knocking/pulling everyone off the map, so I would be very happy if it were replaced with Capricorn (which I didn’t find too unbalanced at all, and I play all classes). Someone did make a very good suggestion above, though, which was keeping the idea of people being knocked off, but not killing them. Provided it didn’t take as long for players to get back into position as it does for them to respawn and do so, I think this might be a nice balance.
the map makes a very good job of making all of the flaws (camera, targeting, certain skill animations) that the game has more annoying than the other maps. it has no business being in ranked arena.

LOL! Yeah I know a lot of R80 who have spent their day in hotjoin but I guess your right as long as you have a dragon finisher your good???? LMAO! L2P. If your good then you beat the player in sky hammer/foefire/forest/spirit watch or whatever map. L2P and stop complaining. Treb and hammer and the same thing well actually no treb is more annoying because if your not looking for it you’ll probably get hit while hammer has a big kitten circle that you see regardless of what your doing. You base skill on rank? Thats how I know your a scrub. I can get to R80 and never leave hotjoin….skills? A good competitor/athlete doesnt complain about the stadium he wins so stop Q.Q “pros” and L2P.
The common complaints from people. “We want something new!” something new gets introduced “We don’t want something new we don’t want to have to change our play style!” lol make up your mind. No DM because people don’t like it…. No hammer because ppl don’t like it… kitten I don’t like treb lets erase kyhlo too! Actually you know what only foefire and forest those are the only maps that should be available in ranked matches! /sarcasm
Winning by bypassing combat? Lol I don’t even know what that means. Does that apply to kyhlo? how about spirit watch or foefire?
