Does this mean any characters we have WvW wxp ranks on will get a chest as I have 4 characters that does WvW and they are all sat on rank 20,24,32 and rank 4?
Or is it a case of you get x amount of chests for the highest rank you have Ie the rank 32 char will only get the boxes

A combination of laurels and badges? Why does everything in this game have to be gated when it comes to ascended gear?
I have guildies who have been saving up badges for ascended, hell, I’ve been saving up badges for ascended. We’re what this measure is supposed to stop, I guess, but it’s unnecessary. The only gate that should exist is the acquisition of badges. I have a guildie who has put 2000 hours or so into WvW, and virtually nothing into PvE, and they have 13000 badges. Do they not deserve to get something out of their 13000 badges? So what if they get the gear immediately? PvE players have had this gear since November.
Even laurels are annoying to WvW-only players, because many of them (I’d say 30-40% at least) require you to do at least some PvE to complete them.
C’mon Anet, I’ve waited 6 months for ascended in WvW, and now you’re going to make me wait at least another month or two to farm laurels in order to be on the same level as players who have had this gear since November? This is just as outrageous as adding the gold cost to exotic gear in WvW, when PvE players doing dungeons MAKE gold while getting exotics, whereas we have to spend the gold we make and the badges we make?
I was excited about this update until now, too.
Because WvW is never designed as a secluded/independent content from the very first place. We can see that ANET subtly encourages players to spend time in other PvE area too, not only WvW. This game is rich in content, and it is pretty understandable if the developers tend to stimulate its players to experience it in more than one area.
Of course we as players ultimately may choose want we want to do in game. But in terms of rewards, we don’t have that honor. Honestly, it is already really good that ANET finally acknowledges the effort of WvW-only-players by adding this laurel+badge merchant and other stuffs.
Frankly, it may not be “perfect,” but it’s a HELL of a lot of WvW-love in just a coupla months. Keep it coming, ANet – some of us PvE rarely, at best

There will be a system for rewarding players who have already gained ranks. The way it will work is you will have a backlog of 60 chests, if you were at rank 61, and for each rank you achieve after that you will get 2 chests, instead of 1, until you’ve received all 60 of your backlog. These bonus chests should be available for every player who has gained rank prior to the build.
So being rank 158 I wont get all my chests until I get rank 315??
So what if it takes you this long to get all your BACKLOGGED chests. its not like your missing out on anything, or your time was wasted. Now if it took longer to get each level then i could see your concern, but it doesn’t each level after 5 is 5000 Wxp. Think of it this way someone that just starts today playing wvw will need to get 315 levels to get 315 chests you only need to do 157. I would be rather happy if i was you.

Introducing abilities to make you siege more -boring mini gaming- and introducing Asc gear that most people already have won’t stop people leaving or getting bored with the zerg fest that is WvW.
Did introducing knight’s or cleric’s exotics in WvW help entice people to play more? We will still continue to see the WvW community decline.
And PRX were not hardcore pvpers..they were zerglings that got bored from zerging because they did it too much. Zerging doesn’t qualify as pvp.
My opinion on this is that….we’ll this is dumbest thing next to the quiver back piece you put in the gem store. Some of us play this game and work for our ascended stuff. I hate fractals and love wvw but I put my difference aside and did fractals to get my quiver and rings. Now you are just giving way quivers in store and ascend stuff to wvw and pve. Let people work for there stuff and if you don’t like working for you stuff go play another game.

there are many soldiers who hadn’t even seen a “PvE”, they only battled for the server,

Ascended items and infusions both will cost a less than normal amount of laurels, and a badge cost as well. (Ascended accessories will remain laurels + ecto, but with new WvW rank reward chests you’re going to be getting a lot more Ecto!)
O.o someone re-explain this, will be badges+laureals or laureals+ecto(<-not badges)? Not to mention when I seen the main post I sold all my ectos, all 4 of them^^

Good ideas and bad ideas. Great that we are finally informed (at least in some way) in advance and a specific date!
I am of course curious about the new scoring, but since the information is not yet out, I won’t comment it.
WvWvW definitely needs better rewards and what we will get soon sounds good, except I think ascended gear should have been bought by gold and badges alone. Now to keep accessories strictly laurels + 50 ectos punishes severely those players who play multiple characters (once again a sign that Arenanet hates diversity). Also I am pretty sure many players already brought their amulet + rings with the laurels, yet now just got a slap on their face learning that badges won’t help acquiring their ascended accessories. Yet another thing to increase player irritation and promote grinding. Please make badges count to get ascended accessories.
Unfortunately once again nothing to make the outmanned buff more useful. Please smart developers please tell me how to fight against 20 with just 2? Or even against 10 with just 3-5 on your side? Why do you reward numbers, coverage and blobbing?
Still no words about fixing stealth. The traps were just bad idea, like I explained in the thief nerf thread.
Still nothing to tone down the overpowered siege weapon traits and arrow cart damage. What is the logic that you get only + 1% / 2% / 3% vs mercenaries, but already two 1st Arrow Cart WXP traits give you hugely increased range and damage, which affects enemy players as well. This is simply beyond my reasoning. Just sitting on AC, clicking 1, 2 or 3 and yawning have been the WXP + loot bags ever. Very efficient to farm WXP, badges + loot, but where is the skill!?

Well, I would grumble about ascended costing laurels, but seeing how we’d be able to get laurels from purely WvW anyways, I think it’s actually an improvement. Of course that’s just for rings and amulets, stuff we could already get from WvW anyways with a bit of mucking around, so, looks like it’s going to be another month+ until WvW players can get a hold of those snazzy backpieces or accessories.
About that burning oil trait… do your devs ever bother using burning oil? Unless there’s some sort of a silly range increase for it, there really isn’t any point to spending points for the least used siege. Nobody uses it, not because it doesn’t do enough damage, or because it doesn’t have fancy traits, but because aside from acting as a projectile magnet for a minute, its only use is to kill dumb people.
And it already does an awesome job at that! If 20 silly golems prance under a functional burning oil, they will die.
So really… why have it? Will this trait give me the ability to stay invincible while I’m manning it so that I could actually use the bloody thing while everyone’s stacking AoE’s on it? Will it offer a new ability called “Lucky Charms” where you spill out chalky marshmallows onto the hordes below to give them cavities?

This is just so funny. You add ascended gear for badges now, but ONLY for rings and amuletts, which any decent wvw player has for at least 2, maykittenars already by now. So we get nothing in the end. Again. I’m just amazed how desperate you are to push people in certain directions. Do you really think this will promote Guild Missions if you leave out the accesoirs? It’s about time that you finally realize that the RvR Community ain’t giving a kitten about your bs pve content. We never have and never will. Is it really so hard to make a few simple adjustments that bring a better experience to us? Like new maps, bring back the orbs a.s.o. Please go and read some books about Warfare before bringing us useless changes like traps again. Or add stuff that is already in the game and call it “new”. Thanks.

those changes seems only to bring the pve guys to wvw and blobs… will be even harder to make somene scout upgrade now. All will want ranks badges to buy the shinies…. As for badges have ton of them personal wvw rank is 100,but honestly I use them to buy siege and new supply traps.

Honestly it is ridicilous to see 100 enemies hiding in tower,or inner of keep, under the protection of 10 superior arrow carts.. and 2-3 trebs.honestly how can you break in? This is certainly going to be some progress in the right direction. If for nothing else than giving us more choices. Being a “builder” and loving to play a whole roster of alt’s, I’m never going to get very far with laurels, badges, or WxP. Maybe combining them all as it sounds will help up a bit now.

There is a recipe to upgrade the Karka back-piece to Ascended which involve no Fractal items.

Increased attack radius! (You can now get their boots a little burnt!)
More fire damage! (The ground burns longer! Not the players, you missed all of them.)
And, um.. the oil slows them more! (….cause… you know. Whynot?!!)
And lastly you get the skill Hara-Burni where you tip the pot backwards to burn yourself alive, making you experience a slow agonizing death for you to relize the fact that while your allies were busy working on arrow carts and cannons, YOU decided to hop on the Burning Oil while it was being pegged away by rifles and arrows.

Except it isn’t, you can make them in the mystic forge. TP is in WvW, mystic forge is in WvW, and you can make the ~20g (cheapest one) required in WvW as well. That said, I would appreciate it if they made them available for badges too.
Also I’m quite dissapointed that the WvW ascendeds will cost laurels. I stopped doing dailies because I thought “I’ll just get the WvW ascendeds when they’re finally introduced” and now it turns out I can’t because I have to do dailies first anyway.
Those complaining about laurels forget the WvW focus dailies we get. If you play a lot of WvW, you’ll get them without any extra effort.
Even though people don’t like it, Laurels is still a pseudo-gating tactic and encourages you to do activities beyond what you’d normally do. Need your last item… oh, a JP, I’ll go do that.
Nope, i don’t get laurels by only doing wvw stuff most of the time. And you only get one each day, which makes the game super-grindy. This is terrible game design. No-one enjoys it and no-one finds it fun. It’s just a chore.
And ascended are also soubound which even makes it more terrible for those who got multiple chars.
Grinding is the reason i leave mmo’s. But i haven’t found any mmo with a better combat system than GW2 yet. So i still play this game. And i’m hoping they will add some other stuff to keep ppl playing other than months of grinding for ascended.
I can see where you’re coming from on this, but i have to point out that back when ascended gear and fractals first came out there were no “daily relics” or “laurels” so it was possible that you would run 20 lvl 10 fractals and not receive a single ring (there was quite a long and angry topic about all this) which means you couldn’t go into lvl 20-30 fractals all because of bad luck with RNG. So what if this system was never in place and if ascended amulets and earrings only dropped from Maw chests like the rings used too but at like lvl 30-40, it would be the same process of misery all over again. Everyone should be grateful for what they got because it could be so much worse.

Concerning laurels, you guys should have seen this coming. Buying this only with badgeswould mean some people could buy as many as they wanted very fast and be done.
See the useless pristine fractal tokens in PVE : Anet’s “fix” to this was to prevent players from having more than X of this or that currency within Y days.
They will always continue doing this, it won’t change, it’s the sense of progression.
You should be glad that there was not yet another currency added instead of the laurels.
What will be interesting now is to have a look at the numbers. I hope they have been reasonable concerning both the amount of laurels and badges. If it’s like 20 laurels and 250 or 500 badges for 1 amulet, then that’s completely bullkitten.
If it’s something like 10 laurels and 100-200 badges, then, that will be interesting.
Also, concerning the infusions, wait and see, hope there will be cool ones.

If mastery changes the range on it, its potentially some ouchness. But yeh, probably its just going to be increased damage on empty spaces where nobody stands until the oil is destroyed.

I basically used up all my badges on siege… now to start saving badges and buying siege with gold or JP???

Should be less laurens, more badges (500+ even 1000+), already have 20 stacks of unused badges (5k) in my bank.

No. Cost should not be insane. The reason ? It must stay acessible to people, just as were and are laurels. Laurels are insanely hard to get in that you can’t have more than 40 within a month BUT they are pretty easy and fast to obtain (completing a daily of monthly does not require a big time investment.
The same should go for WvW. Furthermore, it would create a huge imbalance from one server to another : huge queues = you’re kittened, deserted server = you’re kittened …
I’ve spent a moderate time in WvW sitting around lv 50, which is still quite a lot and I only have earned something like 1250 badges. Add to this what I’ve spent with siege weapons. Let’s say it goes up to 1500 badges, taking into account the time I’ve spent before the Wxp.
Now, you see that it’s not a lot.
Now imagine a player who can only play 1-2 hours a day max, he would be totally kittened because, even when you tag a lot of your opponents and take objectives, you still don’t get that many badges.
The cost should be fair as is that of laurels.

Any love for support style builds on this front? If I build my character 90% around boons/nondmging conditions/heals, am I still SOL?
To be more specific: is xp for kills still based solely on doing damage?
