Dang, was hoping you all would have had that figured out beforehand. Cuz to me, kinda sounds like we will have to merge/delete servers if the lower tier ranking will never change regardless of how well their players do in linked matches.

Okay. How are Glicko ratings for individual servers being calculated during linked matches? Some of us are wondering what the trick is to separate the linked worlds during Glicko rating calc, so that new (different) pairings can occur at each (for now 3 month) pairing interval.

Wow, so you just negated the contribution of the “guest” server. If the lower tiers felt like they didn’t matter, this would prove that point.

This isn’t working for many servers. On Abaddon a lot of people that I haven’t seen for ages in WvW prepared for reset full of hope. Now most of them are offline or drunken…

If we could get a response that anyone cares and it won’t stay like this for 3 months, we could improve the system together…
3 years taught me I must be dreaming expecting this ;(

I don’t know about other servers, but SFR have 120+ quee on EB and 50+ kittenor each borderland.
Haven’t seen that for some time, and I’m glad WvW is that active again.

I feel kinda bad for Desolation being linked with t9 server. From what I hear, a lot of players are already transfering to Piken and SFR.

Linked “host” worlds have their Glicko data updated in the usual way. Linked “guest” world Glicko data isn’t affected. It’s not yet determined what approach we’ll use for Glicko data for guest worlds when world links are changed, in the case that a guest either becomes a host or goes solo.

This means that the hosted server does not exist for Glicko rating, but does exist for receiving transfers into a match when the match’s host servers are full.

That means that the dominant community in a pairing, usually the host server, will recruit from and send incoming transfers to the hosted server in the link.

When the link is broken later, you will also be dividing guilds whose rosters are now spread across the linked servers.

I think you should make the link a permanent merge, and set aside the word game of “linking”. That would be more up front in communication and also more straight forward technically. Our lower tier counterparts (Bronze League and half of Silver, in NA) are going to hate this move regardless. Terminology isn’t going to soften the blow.

Edit: To be more clear, I do see and even agree with this first-pass at the move; even hinging it upon the inference that “link” is temporary, so that no one thinks this merger is irrevocable. Let’s be real, though. Some form of this is going to stick, and resetting the link “at most every 3 months” means that a link exists regardless.

The beta is for confirming that the merger works. It’s not for confirming that the gameplay design decision is a correct one for most players. We already know the correct gameplay design choice in an MMOG: Force players together, by forcing them to play together or not play at all.

I do miss the match-up threads on here, they had some issues with toxicness but they were fun. It would be a nice way to connect the pairings now with this system in place so I agree with you there.

Right if you are interested a bit of early feedback.

Initial hostility between servers is high. Fights are uncoordinated and commanders are confused and unwilling to cooperate.
I hope this changes fast and might still happen.

Another more prominent problem. Especially for the lower tier people is that we have a lot of players that have some form of issue with high population servers.
The most prominent ones are lack of network bandwidth and processing power. Causing lag and disconnects. These people are now unable to play. and this is something that time will not fix.
Some of us also just plain don’t like the massive fights and prefer the lower population servers for more focussed and impactful world versus world gameplay. This is gone now.

I always said, the Tiers shouldn’t be equalized or have Worlds rotating often. Having Tiers with differing themes and play styles, gives the greatest possible player satisfaction overall.

Its also reset. The only time a queue is really a bad thing is when a server gets overpopulated and it takes more than 10 minutes to get in. That 10 minutes varies from person to person though as some people don’t mind waiting for 30 if they end up having fun. Getting into a map after 30+ minutes though only to have the commander sign off or switch maps is frustrating though but its part of WvW.

Oh I may have to log on tonight just to read the map chat… oh the egos of some of the server leaders and guilds who “run things” on their server getting paired up with past enemies or just other leaders….. The outright culture clashes are going to be phenomenally entertaining…. “Get off my map Scrub!, half my guild is in que”, “No you get off!” etc……

And I foresee Transfer Wars 2 on the horizon.

I know that all too well. for the first year of this game we were told to stay out of WvW until thursday. lol. Not going back to that anymore. If someone doesn’t like it they can suck on a tick tak. I’m playing bloody WvW regardless what they say. I came to this game to play WvW and it’s really the only part I enjoy.

The problem with this is that we went from servers with room to spare to 100+ man queues
and like I said, not everyone has the bandwidth for or likes the large group fights. The tiers gave variety to let people choose that for themselves

I do miss the match-up threads on here, they had some issues with toxicness but they were fun. It would be a nice way to connect the pairings now with this system in place so I agree with you there.

This may be the norm on some servers but it has a downside the more casual user ( like myself ) with limited hours of play seem to be faced with a dilemma .. wrong choice of words let me re-phrase , Zero chance of ever playing WvW. Am I missing something because I fail to spot how this is better?

On TOP of that, it’s essentially a super-reset. Lots of players (myself included) that used to play WvW regularly, but stopped due to a lack of activity, are all raring to go and see what this world pairing is going to be like. Naturally, for this first week especially, that’s going to be an absolutely massive overload of players trying to get in as soon as possible.

My guess is that after a week or so – or heck, maybe even less than a week – it’ll be down to much smaller queue numbers.

You have a 120 queued on all 4 maps?

Most people prefer EB over borders, naturally.

If you are holding your breath to get into EBG I have suggestion: dont.

EBG will be the hardest map to get into particularly on reset night but its very likely it will continue to be tough during the week. If you want a shot plan multiple hours ahead.

Indeed, which make the pairing difficult. Honestly, an actual merger would have been better than this as the bigger communities could absorb the smaller one.

It only took about 30 minutes for the low pop partner to start insulting our commanders, throwing zergers and various unmentionable words around. Was actually the first time in a very long time that we reported a player. If thats how its gonna be… lets just say guilds on respective server are gonna have so much “fun” being drama queens.

Its gonna take many weeks for this to settle, sigh.

I find it hard to believe that some of these full servers that got linked are more populated than SFR, Piken or Kodash. You’re encouraging people to transfers to servers that were stacked enough to not get linked.

Hi there,

it’s 2 years and half that I didn’t play GW2. I’m playing since two weeks.
There are 138 players in queue spread around. I didn’t see this since I was on Tier 1 and I’m playing on a server ranked 14th.

Please, before end the beta keep in mind that the contribution of new players, should be WISE as I wanna play, that’s why I’m on a middle server.

Queues on borderlands weren’t that long, I spent maybe 5 minutes in EOTM while waiting for the queue for FSP border to pop.

Don’t make it about the “lower tiers”. There are jerks everywhere and egos are HUGE in this game. I’m on a very low key/laid back low tier server…we worry about encountering the same things from other servers, no matter what tier they were in.

Thats not really how it works. You can’t just ‘throw more resources’ at the problem of lag. Lag is caused by fights, and is a local issue to that map. You can’t throw more resources at the problem to make it go away. Fights create massive but short spikes in processing and data communication to all the clients involved. If they could solve it by throwing server infrastructure at the problem, they would have done imo.

Feels like there’s less than 40-50 on tag actually, as though they dropped player caps, so the queues seem far worse lately. Deso just ktrains @ night as expected against these servers though.
