ArenaNet… this is exactly what you (and we as a community do not want. Please do not let the multitude of posts like this on threads like this fall on deaf ears.

Wait what? I’m not trying to be rude with my following comment but this is not the mentality of all the WvW community:

I do not care about the rewards, I do not care about PPT, I do not care about achievements. The only thing that I want are decent fights, that’s the reward for me in WvW.

If people only go there for rewards then I’m fine with them leaving, less queues for the ones that actually want to get into the fights. Yes the rewards should be better, please please please please stop giving us greens, but the reward in WvW itself should not be the shinies.

Most WvW players knew going in this would be a ‘two blues and a green’ type reward. It’s been a running joke the entire season. Anyone who honestly expected more hasn’t played much WvW. Or was incredibly naive.

I actually like this idea. Perhaps there could be a full set of exclusive WvW skins. Completing your Season One reward chest gives you 1 token to redeem for a single piece of the set. Additional pieces of the set can be earned by trading in badges of honor. This would give players a rewarding feeling and also provide incentive to continue adventuring in WvW.

Sure, but in order to make purchasing with badges work, ANET would need to implement a new armor set each season. Because badges are pretty easy to come by for WvWers, so they would get the armor in no time.

My initial thought was that ANET isn’t capable of producing armor that quickly. So if they just make one set for each light, medium, and heavy armor sets, they can spread out the rate at which players get it over the course of a year.

(I would much prefer an exclusive armor per season, but I don’t see that happening.)

Think about the number of people that actually participated in the season whom only farmed their achievements and then left without really ever attributing to anything to that server’s position in the league… things may seem “unique” to a certain population, but you’ll just have thousands of people running around with the same items and it’d be meaningless.

Really, what you should be taking away from Season 1 is a sense of pride in how your server did, in your ability to rally and work together. Think about how much fun you actually had during the season with having that many more people participating and getting in to WvW. Think about how now, out of season, your server has potential to tier up (or down if you did horribly).

the reality is that anyone who actually got the achievement contributed to their server success.
taking camps helps server
killing dolyaks helps server
taking keeps help server
taking stonemist helps server
hard to get 50 wvw ranks wo helping server
kills help server.
even the ruins you guys hate helps server, by either blocking points gained on kill, or obtaining it. stats show servers get 37-50% of their points due to these buffs. These buffs are actually given mostly for killing other players, so yeah.

it may not be your opinion of optimal use, but these things all contribute to success in a match up.

jumping puzzles and guard kills are mostly about giving servers who cant compete or hope to take stonemist ways to complete meta.

I am with you on #1 and #2. RvR has never ever been lucrative in any game. The reward is the pride and experience. I could get behind making a series of achievements that would allow you to get a set of armor and weapon skins. You cap SMC 5 times=helmet skin. Kill 10 keep lords=chest armor skin. Every 20 tower lords=shoulder armor skin. Take 30 camps=leg armor skin. Kill 40 dolyaks=hand armor skin. Flip 30 ruins=boot armor skin. Kill 500 players=weapon skin. Something like this would be amazing for the W3er, and still allow for PvXers to come in for a bit, get some rewards, and then go do their thing. This would really help to spell it out for people that thought they were going to get a full suit of ascended armor out of their gold league #1 chest. That wasn’t ever going to happen, and will never happen.

this underground mentality is crippling the game mode and playerbase. You should be able to make a living (in gw2 terms) from wvw. you shouldnt have to go to work in PVE so you can play wvw, or get nice things. For people who enjoy pushing hard, there should be rewards just like people who push hard in PVE.

Apparently a true WvWer should be pauper with no shinies, no titles, inferior gear (no ascended/legendaries) a forest of blues and greens to dance in. Who doesnt even get anything to commemorate his succcesses.

See, I’m speaking of the people that really just went for achievements… the ones that just stood in zergs to get their caps, or that neglected to report enemy movement because they wanted to lose a camp or SMC just to flip it back for the achievement, which is detrimental to their server.

The point is that you shouldn’t be playing WvW for the rewards in a chest. You should be playing WvW because of the enjoyment you get from winning fights and seizing locations.

This all comes back to their choice before the season began. Iirc it was free to transfer to a low level population and only 800 gems to transfer to high pops? Did they not foresee the issue of stacked servers? What about the people who were already on those “stacked” servers to begin with? I don’t think it’s right for them to get the shaft on rewards when they have to deal with high queues on top of it.

Though, I’m sure people would of transferred to blackgate for 2400 gems for the possible rewards. Anet could of made a fortune.

Let’s face it guys, it considers WvW, they will most probably not look at this thread, or look at it and don’t care enough to make up for it. In the end we WvW hardcore players never played for rewards… only having fun and looking for fights right?

This does not only fall to rewards… but also the pve crap that spawns in random spots in EB or in those ogre and dredge camps.. which we had numerous of fights in there and end up being over whelmed because the enemies rally on those npcs..

Really guys, the development of the game does not properly consider WvW, and it reaches to a point if the development team for WvW actually Play WvW so far I have not seen signs of that.

Don’t complain you don’t play WvW for rewards.. you play for the fights and enjoying your time if you play for rewards go play PvE and look for temples.

I like your idea as well, I would think the numbers would need to be tweaked, since some of those you can get in a day to a week. But the premise is good!

Well isn’t that the point? Everybody who seems to not care about the anything are the ones that have giant populations so their WvW wasn’t a constant stream of getting facerolled by enemy zergs and having no ability to fight back because 100 vs 20 isn’t ending well for the 20.

To the rest of us this was seven weeks of hard work and effort to even attempt to compete and to finish the meta and we got ripped off.

While I was pretty sure the rewards were going to be terrible, I thought they would give more than 100 dragonites and empyreals. I don’t have any trouble obtaining them, but one would think that after what has been said, they would give at least enough to craft an ascended weapon.

Think about how much fun you actually had during the season with having that many more people participating and getting in to WvW. Think about how now, out of season, your server has potential to tier up (or down if you did horribly).

What I realized is that the PvE playerbase on GoM is the most horrible curse. They are here when everything is fine and the moment we need to fight, they all run away.
A part of me hoped that the rewards would be outrageously unfair between higher and lower servers. That way that chunk of players who are only there for the rewards would have finally transferred somewhere else.

You’re playing the wrong kind of wvw mate. I can “make a living” off wvw when I run in guild raids. I don’t need these shiny legendaries (stat difference makes tiny difference, not worth the time and money). Enemy can’t see you titles so what’s the point? All these greens and blues i get to dance in give me luck essence so now I dance in greens and rares most of the time.
A true wvwer doesn’t care about the achievements because they play wvw for wvw. Legendaries are a bonus, not a must. Even though I may make less than the people who run in circles for hours on end in frostgorge, wtf am I supposed to spend it on? Only thing I buy is better weapons and armour skins, which I can easily afford as a wvwer.

Main issue I had with leagues is it caused all the fairweather pvers to clog my queues for triple their normal time meaning my guild and I often couldn’t get into wvw. My guild that’s entire existence revolves around wvw and we can’t play because of pvers. Where were they when we needed more number? Fractals. Where were they when our t3 keep was under attack? CoF. And where are they now that leagues are finished? back to their kitten pve where I hope they stay unless they intend on committing to wvw. Im sick of having 10 people on tag in a queued map because people are doing the jumping puzzle and doing laps in the ruins. No, I have no sympathy for these crying pvers.

RvR? You hail from DaOC? RvR was actually very lucrative in retail DaOC on several fronts. It gave you realm points, realm ranks (up to 12 which took time aka real ladder system), abilities, and with future patches access to Darkness Falls which gave other perks.

Basically you had more risk and reward for doing just about anything out in the RvR map. Claiming keeps provided a reason or more exp killing near it or guards would warn your guild/alliance. Darkness Falls gave more exp, more money, and crafting mats. The list goes on and on why one would enter RvR and play there.

Need I even mention a viable portal that listed top 25 players, guilds, alliances in several statistics. And if you are not in the top 25 you could search on a name and find said person? Wow….so 2001!

WvW, while close and fun, falls short of providing anything even close to what a game released in 2001. I mean claiming a keep and having guards warn you? How can that not be in any game today? Rewards are what they are and didn’t really do much for me, whatever I will get. However, I am sort of mystified why PvE gets more rewards from static content.

If I was king for a day in the WvW department we’d have a quick pow wow, mine some data, and lay out some ground work to right this ship. I love it. It really is the only meta of the game I play. The jump puzzle has huge potential before they dumbed it down (removed siege placement), etc.

Anyway. Time will tell but just wanted to say RvR, or rewards in general, did work. Just this game wasn’t designed that way I’d wager hence repeating or easy to gain ranks that offer nothing…

NO thought went into the reward. They don’t care about making wvw’ers happy – they are more concerned with not upsetting the pve’rs.
And to the comment about “thats what wvw’ers do anyway- why get a decent reward?”- this can be applied to fractals and dungeons – some people do things because they enjoy them, just the rewards for those that wvw are greatly reduced than those gained in pve.
ALL of this would not make the slightest difference if these rewards were purely cosmetic – BUT ascended is not purely cosmetic. But then again they said prelaunch that there would be no end game gear progression.

You’re playing the wrong kind of wvw mate. I can “make a living” off wvw when I run in guild raids. I don’t need these shiny legendaries (stat difference makes tiny difference, not worth the time and money). Enemy can’t see you titles so what’s the point? All these greens and blues i get to dance in give me luck essence so now I dance in greens and rares most of the time.
A true wvwer doesn’t care about the achievements because they play wvw for wvw. Legendaries are a bonus, not a must. Even though I may make less than the people who run in circles for hours on end in frostgorge, wtf am I supposed to spend it on? Only thing I buy is better weapons and armour skins, which I can easily afford as a wvwer.

Main issue I had with leagues is it caused all the fairweather pvers to clog my queues for triple their normal time meaning my guild and I often couldn’t get into wvw. You need to grow up. If you’re so angry at pvers and just like the excitement of WvW then bring your WvW dedicated guild to one of the dozens of servers that don’t have queues because we need WvW players. Your guild wouldn’t last 20 minutes on one of the bronze/low rank silver servers that have small wvw populations and have to actually put in effort.

This is such a fail argument. Every aspect of the game gets rewards, and all the PvE rewards are significantly better than the WvW rewards. For what reason?

Playing WvW for the fights and the fun doesnt mean you should never be rewarded for your play. It may not be why you play, but if one aspect of the game is getting decent rewards for their play time, they all should be.

Now I know I won’t have to log in nearly as much next season.
Completely laughable. Not even an exotic in an Ascended age, a kittening yellow. It’s like they utterly detest the thought of rewarding WvWers. I guess a unique skin or anything would be too much reward for a six week effort. Better sell that in the Gemstore.

Longtime WvWer here, and thouh I´m not excactly surprised by the reward chest, I am a bit disappointed. WvW has always been outshined by PvE in the item-department. We did get a mini, which is nice for the players that enjoy them, but I dont see how hard it could be to give a backskin or any other skin to players from every server. The living story seems to reward skins all the time, and those achievements are certainly not as timeconsuming.

(I play mostly WvW so I didnt find it hard the achievement to be a “grind”, but I can see that some have put more than their usual effort into doing this)

Well I’m glad you put in your research before you typed and looked like a fool. I played in EU silver league, where guilds run the show. And I come from a server that is majority PVE based, so until the leagues queues were nearly non existant, but ofc the achievement hunters gave us the sometimes 3 hour queues. I’m not from one of those high up gold league servers so try again. I personally don’t care about the tick at all, but I do like proper wvw. If we win great, if we lose, great. My guild was having great fights against the lower silver league servers, even the higher silver league servers have good guilds to fight. Majority of EU is guild based, not the blobs that run NA. I’m sure you can understand why I was kitten ed I can’t play with my guild because of these achievement hunters that only played for the achievements gave us massive queues that were abnormal until leagues started.

And now they cry about the rewards. You play wvw for wvw and fights, not rewards. If you want to champion farm go to frostgorge not wvw and create queues.

Good riddance, maybe now people who don’t actually care about WvW will go back to PvE and I won’t have to wait 2 hours to enter eb. Rewards were about the same as I expected, I did the achievements, because I like WvW, not because I wanted some “amazing” rewards.

Kudos to Anet. I don’t care about the rewards. People who do may want to consider other games, because this game should be about the game play. Certainly the wvw part. I have to chuckle at the servers who bribed other servers to transfer though. Lol. Hope it was worth all that gold! Thank you Anet. now perhaps the wvw players can get their wvw experience back.

We don’t need a reward to play wvw. Playing wvw IS the reward. Remove farming and progression from wvw. Skins are nice but actual progression killed most pvp games. I am tired of farming new gear. I am tired of chasing the carrot and when i get close to biting it , they move it farther away. I just want to log in and kill people.

I feel stupid for having spent SEVEN WEEKS working for this shameful excuse for a reward.

When you consider how little effort it takes to complete the other Living World meta-achievements, this is a huge slap in the face.

These rewards are crap imo (for myself I only made it to 5/15 due to limited playtime and an unwillingness to do things I don’t consider fun). Good idea with the dragonite ore, since the drop rate in WvW sucks hard compared to PvE, but needed way more. There should have been enough mats in there to craft at least two pieces of ascended armor. WvW players are going to be behind when it comes to crafting their sets anyways, seems fair to give them a bit of a boost.

I’m not sure why people are whining about the invested time required to get the key. I got mine after the 1st week with just normal playing, although I did run the JPs, which is something I don’t normally do (5m for each of the BL JPs, and probably 30m in OS ‘cause it’s been ages since I ran it and took me a while to get through the dark room ).

I’m on Maguuma, where we came stone motherless last, so maybe it was easier on a less populated server to get some of the achieves like bashing in gates.

As to rewards, I haven’t opened my chest yet, but regardless of any shinies in my box, the best thing is that this debacle is finished and we can get back to some matchups that are vaguely more sensible.

Furthermore the only reward that I am suggesting Season winners get is a permanent finisher based on your servers placement in your bracket. I feel like every server had players that worked hard. I am from HoD and as a result I get the Dolyak Finisher, but I know that SF and DH (to say nothing of those who placed #2 and #3 in Silver, Gold, and EU Bronze, Silver and Gold) worked hard and improved over the course of season one and I cant help but feel empathy for their players who undoubtedly feel robbed.

I was certainly expecting each of the top 3 spots in each bracket to be getting a finisher, and I know many other WvWers in Bronze were expecting the same too. The 1st place winners in each bracket were pretty much set in stone at the very beginning of the season and each of those servers went undefeated all season. Those servers got rewarded for something that everyone already knew they’d accomplish.

It’s the servers who were clawing their way to the 2nd and 3rd place spots that was what people watched with great interest. The 2nd and 3rd place positions in each bracket should have also been rewarded for those efforts.

And I concur that the general rewards for all servers is incredibly lackluster. I can easily make more on PvE for a lot less effort. Some unique rewards to encourage players to become involved in WvW would have been FAR more welcome.

Incredibly disappointing all around.

Actually, a free server transfer, and some motivation to move would have been an excellent move. Not 1800 gems that could be spent on anything, but a server transfer. Give this to the top servers, and attempt to create some balance.

Jokes on Anet I left right after I got the key from the meta early to focus on PVE Champ trains for 6 weeks, and I didn’t even need to transfer to get to Gold League Maguuma!

However, It was still intense with so much organizing, between various commanders, and guilds. That as a whole, we DO deserve better than the rewards that have been posted. There was a huge build-up and hype, that I will not be hesitatant to call A-net out on Bait and Switch tactics here. This is coming from a Long time Fan of the franchaise.

Wait what? I’m not trying to be rude with my following comment but this is not the mentality of all the WvW community:

I do not care about the rewards, I do not care about PPT, I do not care about achievements. The only thing that I want are decent fights, that’s the reward for me in WvW.

If people only go there for rewards then I’m fine with them leaving, less queues for the ones that actually want to get into the fights. Yes the rewards should be better, please please please please stop giving us greens, but the reward in WvW itself should not be the shinies.

I am not sure how much PvE you do or what type but for me the loot in WvW is more or less the same as what I get in a lv80 zone. When there are decent fights the loot is typically better than what I get in PvE so in fact decent fights cover both desires.

That is for playing “normally”. Farming is going to result in more/better loot but that is the entire point of farming stuff.

As a regular WvW player I don’t care much about rewards, yet there are some rewards that could be awesome.

- Ascended backpiece, stats of choice, don’t care about skin or ability to infuse it.
- Free server transfer for top 3 gold league servers and top 1 silver league server.

But in the end, looks like the only ones that are QQ about the rewards are PVE players that farmed the achievements. WvW has always been about gameplay and the reward is satisfaction, not some loot.

There was still plenty of people in WvW before the season started and I am sure those who played before leagues will continue to do so. The PvE heroes will be gone though

I have to give to props to Anet for the season one rewards. Perfect execution, and I am not trolling here. Winning gets a slightly better reward but not so overwhelming to drive server transfers. The rewards are sufficiently small that people who play for shiny trinkets are motivated to stay with game elements that they enjoy with the shiny trinkets they desire, freeing up our WvWvW queues for those of us who love the thrill of wvw. Good call, and accept my sincere thanks.

Agree. Fortunately very little of the progression has a major impact in wvw. Arguably some of the best rewards (like applied fortitude) are only obtainable through just playing a lot of wvw.

Personally, I have had a blast thist last week trolling the JP’s in my guardian, denying those that waited until the last minute to finish their wvw meta.

- What gives you the right to make a statement like that?- IF you read the post PROPERLY you will see they say that they stayed up during night times to help secure a first place – WE all know that night times is generally when coverage is lower and every body counts to help defend upraded keeps and retake supply camps.
LOTS of people put EXTRA effort into wvw (including gold spent on upgrades) to find that the extra effort could have been spent more profitably in pve.

And WvW? Make me laugh most of it is a blob rushing round capping keeps , not even defending, then map zoning out , retake keeps on that bl and so on – its no more than bashing some doors down.

I think a very good solution would be to have better rewards but the same for 7 weeks (harder) wvw achievements OR 7 Weeks living story. (Maybe 6 weeks wvw and 6 weeks living story to keep the 2 weeks-rythm)
WvW players would be rewarded too and PvE players could go on with 24/7 grinding. And I’m sure if it’s just about the reward then it’s much easier to farm living story than WvW.

So you would have for example 3×2 weeks living story about the tower of nightmare and the achievements and after this scarlets plans go on for another 6 weeks (just not about the tower anymore) and in the same 6 weeks you could have the WvW achievements where you can get the same end-reward like after 6 weeks living story content (which is also no problem if it’s more than 1 of each ascended material…)

As far as I can tell, the Season 1 reward is pretty much the same as for any living story:

  • Special mini.
  • Title.
  • Some loot that can be acquired easily doing other things.
  • A ton of achievement points, that put you closer to getting achievement chests.

From speaking to others, it didn’t seem any easier or harder to get than any other Living Story meta:

  1. Those who do this type of content already found themselves with all/most of the meta without going out of their way.
  2. Those who dislike this type of content found it grindy.
  3. Those who find other things a lot more fun than WvW went back to those other things.
  4. Those who are completely new found out if they like this type of content and continued (type 1), persevered (type 2), or returned to the parts of the game they do like (type 3).

Season 1 motivated me to look again for a WvW-focused guild that suited my play style. I found one and had a blast playing with them and don’t really care about the rewards. (If I hadn’t found such a group, I would have returned to dungeons, boss events, and other types of PvE.)
