The rewards between first and last place should be minimal. They are really to encourage participation for all servers across the game…
Had ArenaNet given out finishers to first, second, and third place in Gold, Silver and Bronze (9 total instead of only 3) and identical rewards for everyone who got the key to every player in each server you would have likely seen players migrating from the very high populations servers to the players in lower population servers because they wouldn’t have to deal with queues etc.
Instead ArenaNet decided to give rewards to fewer servers rather than more. Thus exacerbating the situation.

People thinking there won’t be queues on their server in season 2, cute (Well actually, if EotM is released at this time, yes there won’t be queues :p). Those “PvErs” are already on your server, they won’t leave, even if your server is doing terribly.
While the bad rewards and the lack of a big difference between lowest and highest ranking will prevent another mass stacking on certain servers, it’s too late because those servers are already stacked.
And rewards are rewards, “PvErs” are still going to come in WvW to get the achievements.

That was probably because of the JP’s that they got it that fast. I know that my guild at the time just walked with the deso blob and got some things pretty fast yes.

Like better drops from kills. I had to bring my MF to 150+ before my bags filled up with something better than greys and whites. Even at 195% it still isn’t what you would get from PvE drops.

I acquired my reward of killing tons and tons of bandwagoners and jumping on their bodies post-mortem. Mission Accomplished Anet.
One of the main issues in US is server isnt seen as your community by many.

Or because they are farming the achievements and don’t care about real wvw? Idk about other servers but being from Desolation I am ever so grateful the leagues are over and the pvers went back to their dungeons. Now I can actually play the part of the game I enjoy and don’t have a queued map with 40 people in the jumping puzzle or doing similar things…
I am as happy as anyone that the season is over and I don’t want people in WvW who don’t want to be there. But I also think that being mean and unpleasant is not the best way to encourage people to come into WvW.
Remember PvP? Whenever I’d go there to play people were total kittenheads. Now I suck at PvP, but I’m also a newbie. But I will most likely not play it again because of that.
If new people don’t come into the game, it dies. I don’t want to see that.
Well, the talk was different on my server the day the new fractal achievements started. All I could hear was the cursing over PvE players abandoning them to do the fractals. Bu alas, I could care less about fractals and 5 man instances so I stayed and took sentry after sentry after sentry, after yak after yak after yak, after merc camp after merc camp after merc camp. I worked pretty hard.
I did get an ascended weapon drop somewhere along the way in a box that was cool. I never got one in PvE.
I liked the Mini Yak. He’s cute but you can buy one with gems that has a Christmas appearance.
But I did expect one something special in the end chest that would make it worthwhile. And that just didn’t happen.. It was a let down. Like a Christmas stocking full of coal.
but this is war, imagine your villages fate was partially determined by the number of people willing to fight for it.
But, well, it isn’t. There is a cap on each map, and once this magic number of between 60 and 100 fighters have entered the war, no new fighters are allowed. As such, it is a war between “the first” fighters on the field, and not between the most rich, smart, skilled, or whatever (as I tried to point out by my analogy).
And no, I don’t understand WvW as “structured PvP”, either. But I certainly understand WvW as “social PvP”, where a community develops organizational structures, strategies, and tactics that allows them to perform well in WvW. If you add an unproportionally high influx of new players to the mix, that either don’t know or just don’t care about the community effort, and who are directed by harmful incentives, then you might easily destroy what has been build up in months.
Also, in the light of your war analogy, I find the situation even more disturbing. When has someone ever heard of a war where the defending fighters decided “Aw, they are attacking our homeland again? Nah, I don’t care, let them butcher those dumb kittens who unreasonably stayed behind to defend it, and let them take it. Then we can retake it in 5 minutes once the lord buff is gone, and let it fall again. This is a way more efficient rotation to farm my achievements, anyways.”
So, yeah, the rewards are unacceptable.
Then just don’t accept the rewards, destroy them. No one forces you to take the rewards.

Controling your community is part of the leadership you develop in your community. Im basically militia type, but when im with a guild who asks people to get in TS, i get in TS. When a guild needs people to switch BL to get their guild in, I switch or i take a break. This whole idea that everyone who isnt in a WvW specific guild is actively destroying your chances of success is incorrect. also the whole queue issue is highly overated. Im on the number one silver league server, after the first week the queues were like 5-15 minutes in primetime, times longer than that seemed to be more about broken queue system than people as some of my other friends got in in 5 minutes.
the reality is the vast majority of servers dont have this Achievement hunter filling up all the queues, they have little to no queues. Also people talking about achievement hunters wanting to flip objectives, wtf, i been WvWing since launch and I remember people quite a few times people let objectives slip just for Karma. And when you play weak servers they actually advise you to let objectives slip just so you dont discourage them.
So yeah, some people go to WvW motivated by pure greed, and their own desires, this is what working on your community entails. It takes more than a couple random pugs to let an objective slip. If someone is letting objectives slip, it is your community, not the 10 pve achievement focused hoes on the map. If the majority of your players are playing a certain way, the random pugs tend to follow.
As far as war letting people take over objectives for their own profits, yeah its actually pretty common in wars to let things get taken over for your own profit, or for the benefit of army/politics. Those are the sucky communities/governments, at least in this game you dont have to be part of them.
Part of the problem, is as i said, many people arent really a part of their communities, Anet probably hoped it would develop naturally, but i think it needs some help.

this argument doesnt really make that much sense, you realize even with achievements, not everyone did WvW by far. Also, you know every single person each day who kills dwayna gets a guaranteed rare, 30 dragonite, and a similar assortment of greens/blues/yellows?
That aside i dont think the issue is money/rares really, its that very little was unique, and the only item that is, is of a type that is a hassle to show off/use.

No offense but you seem to be in the same weird world as Anet that gear needs to be hard to get. I do not agree with that, and also do not agree with the way the rewards are given now at all.
Oh, I don’t have an issue with gear being easy to get.
But then it should be easy around the board, not just easy for those people that happened to play a certain part of the game at a certain period of time.
And this comes from something that is mainly playing WvW.

This. People keep asking for things like a stack ectos or 100 gold… The issue isnt that there wasnt enough gold. The issue is that ArenaNet could have used the reward system for seasons in WvW to revitalize the game type. In chronological order here is what should have been done with season 1:
1. Display the average queue time at prime time for each server. This should be done year round and would serve as a reminder that the less populated servers need players while the more populated servers can have 4+ hour queues.
2. Add an additional league. Diamond (top 3), Gold (4-8), Silver (9-15) and Bronze (16-22). The difference between T1 and T2 is significant. There were still competitive matches when the 16th server hit the 22nd.
3. Don’t announce how the servers will be split up before the start of the season. This resulted in movement to/from servers. ArenaNet could have simply said there would be WvW Season One and servers will be split into leagues where servers are matched with competitive servers.
4. Create a full round robin schedule where every server plays every other server the same number of times. Many servers complained about having a harder schedule than others.
All of the above are things that I expected ArenaNet to learn from watching the events of season one unfold. The below could still be changed.
5. Provide significant and unique rewards for every single player that earned the Season One Reward Key. The reward should be something that is exclusive/unique to the WvW Season reward chest and significant enough to reward players for their participation. A unique weapon/armor skin or an ascended back piece (since WvW players currently have no good way to acquire one) would have fit this catagory well.
6. Rather than rewarding only the 1st place winner in Gold, Silver, and Bronze (3 servers total) with the dolyak finisher. ArenaNet should have provided 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in Gold, Silver, and Bronze (9 servers total) with the dolyak finisher. This would have rewarded more total servers/players with the pride of placing well during the season. Furthermore, the finishers should have been unlimited, but expired the very first day of season two. This would provide bragging rights to the servers for placing well within their league, but certainly nothing extraordinary as the finisher is underwhelming anyway. The fact that the finishers would have gone to 9 servers instead of only 3 would further reinforce the notion that its worthwhile to play on servers that have little to no queue rather than play on servers with a long queue.
luckily items number 5 and 6 can still be done remedied.

Alternatively, as ArenaNet has limited resources perhaps using the coincidental end of WvW season one with the launch of ascended armor to provide a single ascended chest piece (let the player pick the stats) would have also done nicely without forcing an artist at ArenaNet to devote time to making a unique skin.

Yeah rewards were pretty lame. Especially with crazy queue times and 7 weeks duration. They should have at least awarded the winning servers maybe something from the store like a mining pick or a special WvW backpack or a skin of some kind. How hard is to make a t-shirt for town clothes with an I WIN on it or something? Or a special finisher? Even a ticket or two to get some new skins! There was no thought put into it. Next season you’ll probably see much less interest.

The rewards were given out Friday. This is Monday. ArenaNet employees have just gotten back to work and are probably discussion the trending threads and how they can be addressed/ignored. The fat lady hasn’t sung yet.

This. The amount of stacking, spying and outright cheating was godkitten appalling.
Would be better if all servers were evenly split into 3 competing leagues, which continued to have weekly tiered matches the way they currently do, eg:
League Team1: BG, Mag, YB, EB, etc
League Team2: JQ, SOS, FA, CD, etc
League Team3: SOR, TC, SBI, BP, etc
first week matches: BG v JQ v SOR, Mag v SOS v TC, etc
Scores from all servers in each league are aggregated.
Then make transfers FREE between servers in your league, and transfers limited to once per day. Transfers across league teams cost $$$.
Effectively solves the stacking problem, and allows servers to equilibrate.
People say it was 7 weeks of hard work. If it took you seven weeks I think you should uninstall the game. The achievements were achievable within a week. Besides last I checked you go to PVE for the big rewards and wvw for wvw and killing players. Or am I playing the game wrong?

right now its the only way to play the game. However i think WvW should have some exclusive goals/items.
the seasons was the NBA, and yall barely got paid, top teams got nba rings that disappear after a week.

I am sure that over the course of the next week that you will see countless threads popping up complaining about the rewards found in the WvW Season One reward chest. I don’t want to waste your time, but to be blunt something needs to be done. The rewards are… not only underwhelming, but for the health of WvW moving forward I feel that the current reward is inexcusable. Rewards in for events in GW2 (and any game) serve a few key functions:1. Motivate players to partake in an event.
2. Provide adequate time/reward compensation to players who participate.
3. Grant players a feeling of accomplishment.The current WvW Season One rewards do none of the above as the same reward for a 7 week undertaking is equal to about 30-40 minutes farming Frostgorge Sound. The implications may be greater than you previously anticipated. The full impact of the lackluster Season One reward should not be underestimated. Many servers in Bronze/Silver league worked diligently to recruit and motivate players who had never participated in the WvW game mode. Given the insignificant current reward getting people to try (and continue to play WvW) will only become harder. If no action is taken, when WvW Season 2 rolls around fewer players will be motivated to participate because the reward is not worth the investment of their time. Furthermore, as I’m sure you can see, the vast majority of the Season One participants feel that the reward was inadequate compared to their time investment. Finally, I think that it is safe to say that the current rewards provide absolutely no sense of accomplishment for anyone.
So, here is my clear and concise recommendation:
Amend the WvW Season One reward chest by providing the following-
1. Provide a unique, worthwhile reward for every player on every server who earned the reward key. Here are some suggestions:
a. An ascended quality back piece with a unique skin that is only awarded at the end of a season. (Think Karka Shell or Fractal Capacitor)
b. Utilize the release of the upcoming ascended armor release and reward players with a single set of ascended armor.
c. A single unique weapon skin (allow each player select one weapon from a set) that is only awarded in the WvW Season chests.2. Remove the 250 count from the Gold/Silver/Bronze Dolyak finishers and make them permanent until the beginning of Season 2. The top 3 servers in each league should be given the gold for first, silver for second, and bronze for third. Essentially you would be giving 9 servers finishers rather than only 3. Clearly this would provide less insensitive for players to rush to a handful of servers and more intensive for players to participate spread throughout the range of servers so that nobody has to deal with a 4-5 hour queue.
Many are suggesting that we as a community simply accept the current reward and move on. However I would encourage you to consider the long term implications of inadequate rewards on the GW2 playerbase between now and the end of Season 2. ArenaNet has these forums so that the players have a clear channel of communication to the developers. Luckily, ArenaNet does listen and is taking strides at showing that with the Collaborative Discussion as well as removing the Flamekissed Light Armor Skin being removed/reworked. Make your voice heard.

Anet rewards people who PVE because they chose to go with them as their paying customer base.
They don’t care about WvW except to squeeze server transfer money from you -which they likely have-.
The sooner people realize this and move on to another game, the happier they will be.

I gained a ton of money through those weeks, a ton of loot, hell, I managed to get a lot of things out of that. I consider that to be my real reward…along with knowing that Ehmry Bay had a full Season of staying in 2nd place in every match.

None of this negates the fact that there is no unique reward and that other alternatives would have created a more balanced and compelling WvW Season format.
i dont know if anyone said this already or not but i think the problem is the rewards type! why reward us with PvE stuff while we doing wvw? (with exception of ONE jug of liquid WXP or something) why not 1000 badges or more? some exclusive infusions with exclusive % of defense or offense against lords and guards or mercs (only 2-3-4% more powerful seems fair)? some amount of superior blueprints? or special skins that can only be used in wvw just like pvp skins!

totally agree on the skin.
But not for ascended equip, it would be way off compared to any other reward.
Compare any reward we seen until now with what people is asking…….
(and please avoid the karka patch that was an exception ended really bad).

If u set your expectations low u wont be disappointed.Because my expectations were close to “0” with the rewards from season 1 i was happy with the scrolls and accountbound mini( yaay more accountbound minis).To bad we didnt get some blue or green items,that way we could at least get some silvers.But if u look on the bright side if there is a season 2 less PvE-ers will go in wvw because of the crappy rewards and there will be a shorter q and fewer zerker rallybots, hmmm we could thank Anet for this.

Lets face it. If you are WvW player all achievements were done without effort, cause its just the way you play.
If you were PvE or PvP you went there to farm achievements and getting achievements points was supposed to be reward for you.
I’M VERY GRATEFUL to ANet for the reward system that will discourage PvE zergs on next season and also they made it so that people who deserted their servers (just like many deserted my) now can be disspointed for going after rewards to transfer.
I feel that rewards are very good and all of you forget how much more you get that other games give you in terms of rewards.
This game is not “login and get rewards for every minute of your time playing”, just have fun or make effort but do it for fun not always the rewards. If you want rewards leave GW2 and get side job, earn money and buy yourself a “reward”.

It shouldn’t be too hard to compensate, as it stands now, just looking at the current match-up thread for Viz/Piken/SFR, someone from Viz stated many have stopped WvW because they were so disappointed with the rewards, and I guess this isn’t just a problem on Viz. I never did it for the rewards myself, it was just part of playing WvW, but I agree the rewards were fairly mediocre and not anything distinct to remember Season 1 by…

What’s with the PvE players in WvW hate :/
I, myself am primarily a PvE player, but I also enjoyed the time spent doing some WvW even before S1 thing.
As for the rewards, just taking into account S1 took 7 weeks, rewards should be way better. Personally i didn’t go for the meta, and didn’t get the reward, but i understand frustration.

I didn t take it because when i got to www i got bored farming doliak and instead went helping commanders or helping taking bloodlust buff for the server when we lost it.
