Fireworks Thread - Overflow and Achievement issues
kitten —no wonder I miss all the fireworks in the real world—I always went to watch them at dawn and saw nothing—who would have known that fireworks start after the sun goes down. At least I know when dawn is here. I will remember that on July 1st (for me) or 4th or when ever the city announces a fireworks display.

Anet should really post a schedule of when the fireworks are scheduled to launch. It’s silly that we have to stand around waiting.
The event itself is tied to the ingame time and will happen at dawn (ingame). So your fireworks might not have happened yet, as it is not dawn ingame.
Why dawn? I guess most people would expect a firework to happen at dusk.
Anet doesn’t do things the way everyone else does them. They are innovators! Innovators! Now, excuse me, I have to go catch some bugs. My stinky cows are hungry.
I got the achievement. Funny thing, though, the fireworks display had been underway for a while before I noticed, even though a friend and I were hanging out waiting to see it. I only noticed because someone asked in chat when the fireworks display was going to happen and someone else said, “Now.” So I looked up, and lo!
Later, my friend announced that she’d received the thing with the dragon helms, and then asked, “Did the fireworks happen?”
Heh.
You mean real fireworks shows tell you the time? Gee… doesn’t that ruin all the anticipation? NOT!
Not really happy with the way this event was done, it’d be nice if there was more to do with the time I have to play while still being able to get my helms…
Customer Complaint. This is poorly done. I go to LA in time for fireworks and get put into Overflow. Overflow has a different time than the regular or something like that. I missed it in the regular. Got a house wife and kid, etc. I can’t be glued to the PC all weekend and was looking forward to doing this tonight. Sync up your servers or something.
As we’ve seen a few messages from players saying they didn’t get the achievement even after watching the fireworks, here are some useful information:
- your character needs to be in the following zones in Lion’s Arch: Gate Hub Plaza (around the Asura portals), the Grand Piazza (next to the Dragon holoprojector) or the Mystic Plaza (next to the Mystic Forge)
- while the fireworks last for about 5 minutes, you need to be present during the finale of the event when the dragon is defeated (and dives into the sea)
- last, make sure you don’t already have the achievement
Hope this helps.
How the heck are we supposed to know it is limited to certain areas of the city?? What a waste of time. Is it that hard to either state it in game somewhere or allow for the entire city?

You’re supposed to Just Know. In the same manner that you’re supposed to Just Know that the fireworks go off at dawn. I mean come on, isn’t it obvious? (that’s sarcasm, by the way, just in case it isn’t clear).
Lots of ball dropping on communication here.

Not at all and not really concerning the problems mentioned in this thread.
The problems are:
– Timing of the event
– No achievements for many people in overflow areas
Again a nice example of communication fail.

My friend asked me how to see the fireworks. I said they happen every couple of hours in Lions Arch. And he’s like “So I have to sit there and it could be 2 hours before anything happens? how do you find out the exact time so I’m not just standing around waiting for 2 friggin hours!”
I didn’t know the answer. How can you work out when exactly the fireworks is going to start?
Why on earth couldn’t you just put a timer in the Dragon Bash announcement window stating when the next fireworks show was happening? I went to my server at 12:45am PST to see the fireworks and had to wait an hour an a half. I didn’t even get to see the show! I came back from the bathroom and there was the loot chest above my map.
It’s a good thing I just happened to be hanging out in the right place, because there was no mention of being in a specific place other than just LA on the holiday’s web page.

Why dawn? I guess most people would expect a firework to happen at dusk.
It makes total sense to me that the fireworks take place at dawn.
This way, when you’re adventuring anywhere in Tyria, and night falls, you know that you have 35 minutes to get your kitten to LA.
If the fireworks happened at dusk, there would be a 70 minute daytime window to cover.
This way it is much easier to time, without having to sit in LA for over an hour.
I think that was pretty thoughtful of the devs.

And this is what we call trying to justify bad design.
The fireworks should simply have been on a continuous loop and to get the achievement you need to be there for a full round start to finish.

I don’t think that would work anyway. Just because it’s approaching dawn in another part of Tyria doesn’t mean that it’ll be the same time of day on the Lion’s Arch server. And the odds are even worse if you end up on an overflow server (which is quite likely).
Devs: F minus for the fireworks timing and confusing your players.
Sharing what I’ve learned from my wasting time with this kittenykittenkitten event last night:
If you zone into LA and the sky is a smoggy orange with the dragon hologram is up, just go do whatever it was you’re going to do in game. It’s going to be a while before the fireworks show happens if you do wait. Just go do stuff and check the sky whenever you happen to zone into LA.
If you zone into LA and the sky is dark + dragon hologram in the sky, stick around for dawn. It could be 10 mins, it could be 40 mins but at least you know you’ll be there when dawn happens and you’ll get the achievement as long as it’s not bugged.
How to know if you’re watching the event’s fireworks v. the ones players set off?
The event’s fireworks will make symbols in the sky. The others don’t.
I hope this helps someone.
Let me explain how this works.
The firework event cycle (them happening every two hours) was started at 9:00 AM PDT. The event itself is tied to the ingame time and will happen at dawn (ingame). So your fireworks might not have happened yet, as it is not dawn ingame.
Apologies for us not communicating this more clearly. But the fireworks will happen every two hours over the course of the weekend, so plenty of time to marvel at them and get the achievement.
im sorry cause some people got a schedule in real life put off what they were doing for an hour or so to get the achievement and because yall didnt make this clear they had to go and now wont get the achievement. why cant you guys force it to go every two hours not make it depend on game time for stuff go off. it was idiotic to do it that way.
The event DOES go off every two hours irl. /facepalm

actually they declared the do go off every two hours but you have to wait for dawn. so if it isnt dawn you got to wait. so /facepalm back. its not exactly every two hour and why the confusion

Except every map has its own time, try walking out of LA at night, chances are it’ll be bright day. Plus you’ll likely end up on an overflow during events where everything is different anyway.
Have you been in one of the places Stephane named?
AF(why the hell is the letters f and k together censored?)K in Lion’s Arch for up to two hours for an achievement? How exciting!
Coming soon to the event:
Burn Down the Dragons:
Enjoy hours of amusement while you steal Zhaitan’s sunblock, and dance with delight as he slowly burns while tanning without sufficient protection.
Case Closed:
Immerse yourself with hours of inconclusive questioning and scouring the crime scene for clues! Feel the thrill as you wait a few weeks for the DNA results come back from the Asura crime lab before finally arresting your suspect!
Ceremony and Acrimony:
Get all eight of the ship council to safety by dragging them slowly at 5% of your movement speed! But don’t drag them too quickly, or they might get injured!
Hard Boiled:
Majory is in dire need of a thousand boiled eggs for his potato salad! And his pot can only boil 5 eggs at a time! Only you can stop his barbecue from being a rather mild calamity by heart pounding activities as waiting for the water to boil, waiting for the eggs to boil, and then waiting for the eggs to cool down for you to peel them!
Every Piece Matters:
Find all the missing suspects in the world! It’s time to crack down on crime by catching every single suspicious character in ever zone, all of them! It’s like Where’s Waldo, only Waldo has five hundred clones, and they’re all heavily armed and need at least a fully trained five man team to persuade them to come in quietly!
No More Secrets:
Return to the crime scene, but it has to be at a specific thematic time that only the ANet Dev’s know. Could it be five minutes from now? Or twelve hours? Wait and see!
Hahahaha

I think a few people in this thread have had that problem. I’m guessing that the Arenanet team who normally answer questions on the forums don’t work at the weekend. That would explain the lack of communication. <sigh>
I think there are some pretty major connection issues at the moment. I’m sure there will be an update pretty soon to fix that. Hopefully the achievements will get fixed when the next patch comes out, too.

This wasn’t clear to me. In fact, I spent quite some time looking for the best place to watch the fireworks from for my partner and myself – and I favoured elevated and private places. Up on bridges, out on the opposite shore, etc.
We happened to be at central plaza when the fireworks happened, but that was largely by accident. If I’d had my way, we would’ve been up some romantic pic-nic spot on a cliff – probably with a better view, but without the achievement.

The firework didn’t happen 25 mins ago, it’s not normal :C I was not in an overflow server so dunno what now. There’s still 9 hours till the firework can happen. (Its 3 am PDT and 12 CET)
- while the fireworks last for about 5 minutes, you need to be present during the finale of the event when the dragon is defeated (and dives into the sea)
That’s weird, I got the ach and the helm but the dragon never moved…?
My main concern with this achievement is the lack of continuity between the realm and overflow clocks. When I first logged in I was brought to LA Overflow, which is fine. It was night time and I was told to wait about an hour for the fireworks. Then my queue comes up for me to move to non-overflow LA, so of course I do. Lo and behold it is now 3 mins after the fireworks, I just missed em, and I can’t get back to overflow. So now I’m stuck waiting in LA for 2 hours because if I leave to actually play the game and try to return in time for the event, I’ll probably get tossed into overflow, which is on a different clock, and miss the event all over again.
TL;DR – synch up the realm and overflow clocks!!

I have not achievement. Do you can repeat?
instructions were very confusing
please
tbh, I haven’t seen the firework once. I was lucky I was bugged, just like many other players, and received the achievement on beforehand…

Anet REALLY need to update the way the achievement list works so that it updates any achievement that is no longer obtainable.
I have had a character ‘parked’ at the fountain / projector for hours (live in game) and just been told this achievement is no longer obtainable.
Sooo… are fireworks and the dragon helm over? I logged in a a few times over the weekend, hanging around LA for fireworks, asking unaswered questions about when they go off. I never caught that 5 min window and would either go into WvW or log.
I waited around for 2-21/2hrs last night akitteng in LA and still nothing. Doing an event in such a small window, they should atleast give some indication of when that event occurs.

I waited hours under fountain / projector then asked on forums and was told Big Boom is now unattainable. I have made a suggestion in a new thread that the ach. list be updated to show when an ach is no longer attainable.
I tried to get this. I waited for 5 hours and I think I was present for 2 sessions but the big dragon stopped moving turned into a ball of light for a few minutes, then went back to normal. No fireworks, No achievement. This was when the fireworks was still active. (i also was standing near the holo emitter thing) I think it might have bugged out for me. Is there any possibility of bringing the fireworks back or making the helm purchasable?

So what happens to people like myself who’ve waited 4 hours by the fountain in and out of overflow during the allotted dates but never got the achievement as they didn’t show up?
I don’t care much for having it as an achievement as I can just do others to get it, but the dragon helmet; would have been nice to have that.
So what the exact fix for this?
Why exactly was there a window for this event? Did you guys not learn from the karka event that it’s an extremely bad idea?
I don’t know about some people, but many don’t particularly like to hang around inside on the weekends when it’s nice out, nor do they have the time to play during the week.

This! I can’t believe they made it a weekend only event and that it is not running to the 4th of July. I mean really this is when we blow kitten up!
I would have to agree not everyone can stay on for hours and hours for a 5 min window. Did not seem thought out to me. Should be the whole event time in my opinion and it should happen like every 30 mins and it should have a kitten clock to say when it will happen so ppl will actually know instead of just guessing and waiting and not playing
Sucks that it only happens one weekend, was out of town that weekend and now won’t get the chance. I’m hoping for a grand finale at the end of the event, but that is highly unlikely I suppose.
I was also traveling, between airports, and missed the fireworks. I know it’s not a huge deal, but I hate seeing those empty, hopeless achievements.
I wish they’d give a larger window, or at least not put a timed event on a holiday weekend.
What the hell, this event already happened? How the hell was I supposed to know you needed to be around in a 5 minute window at specific times? I was waiting for this supposed firework show to happen since dragon bash started but assumed it was delayed for whatever reason since nothing was ever happening at the fountain, only to find out I already missed it. I thought it was going to be available for the rest of the event, but apparently not. Horrible communication. For your own sake you should give everybody the achievement for free as it was terribly implemented (not to mention a boatload of people already got the achievement unfairly at the beginning of dragon bash for doing nothing).
I love how the gift says it is given for “participating in the dragon bash festival”. My kitten . I’ve been participating in this festival for the past week and just because I miss some random fireworks (that don’t even happen on the finale for god’s sake) I get jack kitten. Fix this anet.

Yeah, I’m disappointed I can’t get the helmet. I can’t keep up with these constant one time events. I was out of town for the weekend and didn’t realize I was going to miss out on them. It’s getting discouraging really, makes finishing the rest of the event achievements seem sorta pointless. The youtube video looks nice at least, I guess.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/dragonbash/Fireworks-Who-did-not-get-credit/first#post2246994
If we get enough people hopefully they will fix it
I just did the story and realized that this helm came for the firework.
I don’t mind this particular helm but is it necessary to bind these things to such a short event? I mean the festival is still around…
A little sad
Maybe we could scrounge up some gold and get some more fireworks? Since GW2 launched I have been wanting a dragon mask like in GW1, this is closest to it and I had a family emergency that week/weekend!!! I wanted my dragon mask!!!
