Tempest & Warhorn confirmed – Feedback [merged]
I want to like this concept art I really do, but that right angle on her right wrist is giving me the heebies…
Me likey the art. I do I do.
Absolutely cannot wait until Thursday and Friday now, as ele is my main.
I’m not going to get my panties in a bunch about getting warhorn over sword. Neither really got me overly excited, but we’ll see what they have for us.
As a side thought…I wonder if any class is getting a main hand weapon.
Mes – offhand
Necro – two hand
Ele – offhandRanger – confirmed two hand
Engineer – confirmed two handGuardian – two hand
Leaves us with: warrior, thief, and revenant.
Thief we’ve had hints at rifle or staff – two hand
Revenant we have datamining for shield – offhand
Not a clue on warrior. Some speculate dagger, but again I think that would end up an offhand, not a main hand.
I bet not even warrior will get a mainhand. The datamined name for the warrior elite spec is “Berserker,” which makes me think it’ll get a new off-hand.
Regarding the warhorn for us, I really hope they give us reworks to Scepter. If /W is to become a viable alternative to Staff or D/D, especially if warhorn is ranged, Scepter absolutely needs to become less clunky to use. Not to mention that warhorn is already competing with /F and /D, which are very strong weapons.
OMG I’ve been wanting warhorn for sooooo long on the elementalist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not really.
Are you guys all artists? Because you are all very good at drawing conclusions.
You have no clue what abilities it can create. What skills you can use and what it summons.
they arnt drawing conclusions, they’re building a opinon ofwhat it could be using what the Warhorn is generically for, it was obvious it being a warhorn would give quite a few a distaste to it, 90% of the community wanted a sword.
I expected the reactions to be worse people were threatening to quit over this matter.
however aslong as it turns out to be REALLY exceptional i doubt people will mind too much, Replacing the fact our mainhands are pretty weak will prove challanging though unless they are fixing issues with the mainhand weapon sets for us aswell.
I said that the knee-jerk reaction of “They gave ele a warhorn, so I’m not playing ele anymore” is childish. You know nothing about how the elite spec is going to work, and instead of waiting to find out how it’s going to work (and whether or not you’d have to deign to touch a filthy warhorn), you’re just tossing the out the baby with the bathwater.
That still amounts to you trying to tell me how I am to react, which is not your place. If people don’t want to wait for the full reveal to start being annoyed, this is their prerogative.
I dislike this. I have disliked this since the first time it was hinted at. It remains to be seen if the full reveal can change that. Simple as that. Get over it and let people react however they please.
well , gj at kittening it up anet , cant belive we get such a useless piece of kitten , majority of ppl i talked to wanted the sword so bad and new we get that junk
and not to mention that fantasy wise it would make more sense that an ele can create a sword from fire or lighting to fight and a kittening warhorn belongs to the warriors , who the kitten thinks of a warhorn when you talk about elementalists
i was looking so much forward to the new weapon and new we get that junk , im incredible dissapointed and i think you have made a huge mistake anet
i simply lost any to motivation to play ele at all, guess i will spend my time on thief/mes from now on
hmmm…
Lets just think about ur first statement.
“A Sword Wielding MAGE makes more sense then a Mage Shouting out to the Skys to call Down thunder”… alright, wrong… I’d say Sword is the Warriors Weapon, Considering their a master of Weaponary so i guess u just contradicted urself once.
“Creating Lightening/Fiery swords” you have that conjures, if u wield a actual sword u arnt creating Weapons to fight the opponants out of Elements are you, so again thats wrong (im fully aware our conjures suck and need buffing)
Quitting a class down to cosmetic and not sticking around to atleast see whats going on is just outright lame it could be completely different to what ur assuming it’ll be, its ridiculous to quit a class ur apprantly “love” over a Weapon u’ve never had.
I said that the knee-jerk reaction of “They gave ele a warhorn, so I’m not playing ele anymore” is childish. he isnt telling u how u should react, hes pointing out how a Mature Rational Adult would react, that is completely different, the fact is you have never had the sword, or any knowledge to what abilities the sword would be given, you have no idea if Sword would be better then Staff or Dagger and u have no concept of what they would and would not design for the weapon, for all you know Sword could have been a 1200 Ranged Healing Support weapon Via Channeling Electric into his allys to gain fury and Quickness.
you are just taking a current concept of the sword and Putting it on Ele and thinking AWESOME.
the warhorns happening and it could be in multiple aspects awesome but due to how it consmetically looks people put it down.

My only disappointment with warhorn offhand is that it, to me at least, is more visually appealing when paired with a sword rather than scepter or dagger.
well staying in longer… as far as i could see… we got pulse damage and things if we delayed how quickly we run through each specc, im assuming this is to try push this whole Jack of trades Hit everything playstyle we currently have and to be more capable of excelling in one area… i mean afterall i’d like to see more Damaging builds go up, D/D is great for sustain and things but we have nothing inthe Meta for just Pure explosive damage, so hopefully this will draw away from Support and bring more Power/AoE and Powerhouse Nuking.
The general problem with this line of thinking is that, ultimately, it’s the class design that doesn’t allow us to camp a single attunement. If I need a CC/Protection/Condi Cleanse/etc I have to swap out of Fire. Just how it is. I don’t swap because I want to, but simply because that’s what the class demands and how it works. So the idea of a mechanic, “Singularity”, rewards camping an attunement is novel but fundamentally impractical to the base design of the Elementalist class as a whole. Sure it’ll pulse Might or pulse Burn or whatever, but in the end in order to counter game mechanics as a class I’m still forced to swap because weapon skills are balanced around swapping attunements rather than each attunement being self sufficient enough to sit and camp it.
This. With the caveat that we don’t know all that much about what Singularities actually do beyond what was datamined (and that may have changed too), I simply don’t see how they can make camping an attunement worth your while. The class was fundamentally designed around swapping; Singularities need to provide some serious (defensive?) buffs to be viable.
How about you guys actually, you know, play the content before you declare it DoA? Seriously, Ele will probably get sword in a future specialization—so just wait to see what Warhorn actually does before getting all kitteny about it.

I think warhorn for ele could be fantastic, and it may open up some AoE options that a traditional weapon wouldn’t really fit. I’m expecting that the warhorn may give eles access to some new AoE attacks with effect areas that completely change-up what players have been used to. Instead of simple line and circle AoEs, the warhorn might give them access to cone/pie-shaped AoEs possibly able to hit vastly larger areas at longer ranges. The skills could also have strengths of damage or effect at different ranges.
It brings back fond memories of some first edition D&D campaigns with the Horn of Blasting. It could blast through castle gates (using structural damage rules), or it could demolish a large group of foes. If they used something like that for inspiration, the ele spec’s warhorn skills could be really potent, and the class could be lots of fun to play.

I can’t wait for the second elite specialisation of elementalists to be offhand scepter.

You dont know if you are not going to get an utility that conjures a sword for you to use with your warhorn…and i very much doubt you are going to abandon your overpowered facemelting elementalist to play anything else….. Specially mesmers who get a whooping…. Shield
I can’t even begin to explain how happy I am elementalist didn’t get sword. Not joking at all, really interested how warhorn will work, i’d like to pair it with scepter….
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
I can’t wait to see how many people delete their eles out of fits of rage and then beg Anet to give them their toons back when Tempest turns out awesome.

Did you consider the other possibility that people already hated the other weapon sets and that not even the new spec will change the fact that people hated the other weapon specs.
The class mechanic might be good, but it doesn’t change the fact that:
1. Some wanted a real melee weapon.
2. Some hate d/x
3. People like the focus and would have loved a new main hand.
4. In PvP, staff isn’t going to be viable.
5. Singularity sounds stupid.
6. Off hands are generally suppor weapon.
7. Warhorn competes with focus.
The only way this could be different is if by some weird twist of fate, the warhorn is a main hand weapon.
tl;dr
The new class mechanics singularity (maybe), isn’t going to fix the fact that the ele will still have to use D/D, it wont fix the fact that scepter is still a terrible weapon. Still wont fix the fact that D/x is kinda lame.
ADDED: the good news for you is, you can tell us, you told us to be calm. But I would rather to whine about it and be wrong. whining makes this situation less terrible for me.

im looking at it more as in
We FINALLY have the option to have both Short and Long Ranged! people are acting as if they have been demanding swords for years, which is untrue, Elementalists have Raged at the fact their the only class with 0 capability to be both Long and SHort ranged in combat.
Guess what? if they make the warhorns capabilities be 1200 Ranged BOOM u have ur Short range (Dagger) and Long ranged (Warhorn) so no actually they have done EXACTLY as u’ve asked potientally,
and given with hte last offhand they got some MAJOR new mechanics and Set ups, i’d say the Elementalist prolly has additional features coming too, im sorry but i dont really see any bad side in wha tthey’re doing
Necromancers been a Dagger/Warhorn proffession for a LONG time, and it works well for them, it could also work well for us!. u could trick them into reacting to u as if ur a Necro and then blow them up!
you are just taking a current concept of the sword and Putting it on Ele and thinking AWESOME.

hmm lets stack this up
Mesmer v Elementalist… this mans saying Ele is the OP one?.. sorry incorrect, Mesmer is, point proven by 99% of players and even mesmers admitting to it… PU is Ridiculous the power creeps ridiculous and possibly one of the best ways of keeping 25 stacks of might on urself and 25 stacks of vun on ur enemy almost instantly..
Not to mention the abilities with that shield could destroy a enemy team in seconds providing u learn to use it, dont act as if eles the one whos OP When ur talking mesmer buddy, we all know who needs nerfing.

it isnt Aimed at Just specifically you, u were just the last person i responded to via the quotes Before i mentioned it, but 99% of the rage against warhorn is that it isnt a Sword and Isnt a mainhand im just pointing out that Having a sword doesnt mean it’ll be what playuers think the sword will give them.
I’m probably going to change my main class…
What a letdown
How about you guys actually, you know, play the content before you declare it DoA? Seriously, Ele will probably get sword in a future specialization—so just wait to see what Warhorn actually does before getting all kitteny about it.
Because we already know what we have?
Dagger is an excellent offensive weapon. AOE Burn, huge fire burst, mobility, knock up, forst aura, aoe heal/cleanse, knockdown, big dmg/bleed…it’s pretty great and offers a ton of self combo potential.
Focus is a crazy awesome defensive weapon. Burn field, fire aura, targeted chill, dmg/daze, projectile destruction, knockdown, condi cleanse and projectile reflect, straight up immunity all ranged.
When you get down to the brass tacks of it there’s no need for another option there. When you start considering the other possibilities the existing OH weapons already cover all those bases or do so in a better way.
The bigger issue Elementalists face is lack of MH weapon options to go with those already amazing offhands. Scepter has always been in a weird space being half a condition weapon and half a burst power damage weapon the second half of which was largely broken after the Fresh Air/Bolt to the Heart changes. This leaves Dagger as the go to MH item as the only other choice after 1H. There was lots of room to fill many gaps with a MH weapon that we currently lack (dedicated Condi weapon, dedicated burst weapon, mobility weapon, etc).
You’re right. We’ll see more on Thursday…but looking at what we already have…kinda hard to imagine anything that’s better than what we already got.
Any weapon could be amazing. How can you people say sword would be better then warhorn? ANET can literally make up anything they want for the weapon.
I was holding out before I bought Zap. Now I know I am going to buy Spark. Aesthetics is all we have to work with at this point.
Nah. They would need to start over and go to Elementary school.
All this rage on the forum is because we don’t have the warhorn to channel their inner tempest yet. Some people are just a bit wind up, it will most certainly blow over.

Everybody knows, a Warhorns a real mans toy Kappa.
On a real note, i feel Singularity although will involve less juggling of the Elements is a good thing, fast forwarding through elements constantly is fun but at the end of the day being a Jack of all trades only excells so far and this might finally bring Water out of Mandatory given the fact u wont be needing it as much due to less use of the element as a whole.
Some hate D/X some will hate the new Elite others will hate Swords.. Some hate melee, the fact is no matter what they do someone will be dissapointed, thats just factual nobody can change that happening.
Some like focus. others Hate focus, Most Eles i see are staff or D/D I see very few D/Fs running around specially with D/D and Staff listed as eles strongest builds.
well we all hope it isnt a support weapon that really would suck.
well thats true :P but focus isnt used in many meta/high tier builds anyway.

Because we already have two amazing offhands that fill any role we need or want. Pretty much the first class to get something we don’t need while our lack of MH options goes unaddressed. This gives us more OH options than we have MH options. Like…what?
They had one job when it came to the Elementalist and pretty much bungled it.
This is so disappointing it sent me to the forums to the first time is 3 years.
I simply have no idea how the Tempest spec with what we know could compete at all with the ele class now. With the warhorn as an off hand its stuck with s/wh or d/wh, mainhands that are never used in pve. Then in pvp it has to compete agains /f and /d both of which meld great with our current main hands. kitten many others have pointed out its either going to be undertuned and never used or over tuned and completely erase one or both of our current offhands.
Meanwhile our trait set ups are so solid that the tempest will at best simply over power our current weakest specialization while leaving core builds mostly intact. Staff will still be all thats good in pve and d/x cele will maintaint a strangle hold on pvp.
A viable new main hand was the best, most obvious way to bring actual new options to the class and it astounds me our dev couldn’t pull it off. Now I’m just left with the hope that either scepter is going to get some major buffs or conjures are going to get changed into kits to make them useful for more than 1 skill cast and drops.
And i think its worth mentioning that I have seen nobody actually excited for the warhorn itself. Just people excited for pun opportunities, and a horde of apologists saying we should wait to hear more.
(edited by thetwothousand.5049)
Why ask to wield a sword as an offhand, when the war horn could call down a rain of a thousand swords?
If you look at the picture you will see that she is hiding the sword behind her back.

Mesmers are op since the last patch.
Eles have been op for as long as i can remember. An ele can give its party might, fury, 25 stacks of vuln on the enemy, insane personal damage and terrific group damage support via icebow (fgs before the nerf). That, talking only pve.
For pvp you are the meta with your celestial and boon stacking. You can also clean conditions like its nothing so the new condiburst @holes dont even scratch you.

You do realize You stating that “that is the mature way to act” is essentially telling them how they should act (implying they should act mature about it).
You also realize that this is a game for many people who are invested in many different ways, and thus should be able to express themselves however they like as long as its not causing physical or mental harm to anyone. Take a certain Youtuber which follows Gw2, cries at her review videos or something, is that “mature” who cares.
Anyway back onto topic, Warhorn – Terrible for ele would have been sooooooo much cooler if it was a SWORD – think Last air bender moves!. but warhorn…. what can they do that will even make this viable or cool (i mean the skins for the weapon already are urine poor).
Well looking forwards to seeing what skills it will have… not with excitement thats for sure. Ele’s sure got a slap in the face with the Warhorn. I wish no other class gets tainted with this weapon until it gets a major overhaul in skins and effects.
Ele’s sure got a slap in the face with the Warhorn.
Warhorn melee confirmed! First skill definitely is called wack yourself with the warhorn. The special specialisation effect can be called. Tempest tantrum.

I main thief, and have never played ele but, i feel bad for all the eles out there that didnt want warhorn, and that was alot of them.
Regarding the warhorn for us, I really hope they give us reworks to Scepter. I can agree with that thought line. Scepter is probably my least favorite weapon for ele.
I wonder what kind of skills we’ll see on the warhorn. It might be nice to see skills like maelstrom, snow storm (not previously ele specific), or savannah heat come back into the game. Granted, they would have to do something pretty amazing with them to make this offhand desirable over focus and dagger.
How do you feel for those who didn’t want sword ?
Why would warhorn be bad? I suppose everyone has an opinion but rejecting Tempest outright because of the weapon choice is a bit premature imo
I mean, Chronomancer also got an offhand and the shield skills seem pretty good. Who knows how good the EIGHT warhorn skills will be in addition to the inevitable utility skills?
Besides, Anet are adding more elite specs in the future so Ele will probably get a sword at some point.
How about you guys actually, you know, play the content before you declare it DoA? Seriously, Ele will probably get sword in a future specialization—so just wait to see what Warhorn actually does before getting all kitteny about it.
Because for warhorn to be of any use (in pve) it not only has to be stronger than our already strong offhands but it has to justify grabbing dagger mainhand over staff which I simply don’t see.
Yall realize IF we got sword we would have gotten 4 AAs very very similar to daggger I mean you can’t make it better than dagger, can’t give it MORE range than dagger OR less (a sword with less range than a dagger? can you imagine the complaints), can’t give it better dps (or why use dagger) …. see what I mean? edit only legit thing I guess is a bit more burst, still if it was hands down more burst it’d be like scepter melee….no thx
I suppose it could be a ranged sword and compete with scepter? But scepter is already kind of niche… SO that means we would have gotten 8 skills (2×4 since autoattacks would be like the same as daggers on sword) anyway. Same amount as warhorn.
Sure sword could have been a different melee choice…but dagger is already very good and balanced. Sword AAs at least, likely would have been disapointing.
HOPEFULLY with warhorn they will be more powerful than 2 and 3 than the one we would have gotten on sword.

Short term memory then. Ele have been at trash tier, at the very bottom in pvp since dhuumfire patch to april feature pack. And it hasn’t been used in pve for over a year since the game had launched.
Also, people wanted a sword because it would most likely bring more bursty spec. So please, arguing that it’s already OP is rather moot. Not everyone is fond of the current way of playing an ele.
immense cooldowns, in other words.

Datamined sword skills had chains of autoattacks, something only ele lacks. Besides, dagger is hardly a melee weapon.
Warhorn won’t see a day in pve as long as dagger loses to staff (won’t even mention scepter) by a large margin. In pve it’s most likely going to be a weapon for phiw crowd.

Weapon matters a lot more when you can’t swap to another set like the rest of the classes.
its nothing like a “punch in the face”
how can people get this hurt over something they never had or had any information over, u have no idea what sword could have been therefore u cant place judgment over it tbh
Lol we dont get what some players wanted so we’re compared to necros…
we’re still one of the top pvp proffessions in the game, that hasnt changed so stop doomsaying this entire thing.

Weapon matters a lot more when you can’t swap to another set like the rest of the classes.
I mean yeah but as I noted warhorn will give an additional 8 skills because of elementalist element attunement swapping (which effectively makes warhorn give more skills to ele than greatsword to necro, shield to mesmer, and longbow to guardian)
