Lets see your engineers!
Here are some pictures of my Engineer, Fleeting Flash. I adopted a similar color scheme to the gear that Lightning wears in Final Fantasy XIII. I think it works out well on CoE armor. As far as weapons go, I usually go with CM or Human T3 culture weapons, though it would be nice to have more gunblade-like weapons in the game, if not an actual gunblade.
Edit 24 Dec 2012: The third screenshot is in a restyled Sorrow’s Embrace armor (w/ Vigil pants) equipped with an Inquest shield. The pistol is the same as before. I think I might like this look.
I am Fleeting Flash, in-game dungeon cosplayer of Reddit Refugees [RR] .

Gorgeous – What armor is that? Specifically the chest, shoulders and gloves?
Let me know what you think, I’m still debating the mask.
I’d skip on the mask.
I love the look of my Charr Engineer in full Melandru (except boots, and I never show the helm) armor.

There are a lot of great builds going up on the forums right now, for Engineers, and whether or not ArenaNet will respond to us regarding the philosophy and direction behind the class, I thought it might be prudent to make a thread of those great builds, and see if we can’t get it stickied!
You all have been a great help so far! We’re up to 14 builds (including variations) split into four categories; Bunkers, Cannons, Support and Hybrids. Thank you all, and continue posting your builds!
EDITS: Added Lunar Corporation’s listed builds to the best of my ability, as well as a couple more builds from around the forum. In addition, I sorted the builds into categories. | Added Destroyer’s SD/Grenades build and clarified that Static Discharge has high DPS but can also be used for our best bursts. | Added Lightbane’s Potato Gun Rifleman as a hybrid. | Added Gurpmeister’s Rifle Variation to the Bomb Healer build. | Moved SD/Grenades to it’s own heading under Hybrids.

Arguably our highest DPS option in a weapon kit, with more damage and condition damage than you can shake a stick at. To increase your burst damage further with Grenades, see the SD/Grenades build above.

HYBRID
SD/GRENADES
I had originally slotted this as a variation on Static Discharge, but after testing it out for a while, I kinda fell in love and realised it has a lot more hybrid utility than just its burst; thank you, Destroyer, for a great Engi build.

POTATO GUN RIFLEMAN
Shooting Idaho Spuds from a SPAS-12 is far more satisfying than it sounds. Rifle-y burst combos and lots of CC in this package. I tested this build out with a pop-gun skin; I recommend it. Thanks to Lightbane.

ADDENDUM
I lost the post the first time I wrote this so the great descriptions for each have been omitted; I’ll add them later but if you have a short description of one of these builds you think would help a person judge at a glance its purpose and value, go ahead and share that too! In fact, SHARE ALL THE THINGS.
(edited by Loybo.2018)
Good idea, I run a condition/power build myself in WvW/sPvP and a mix of static discharge & elixir gun in PVE.
Haven’t posted it anywhere though, and definitely don’t have time for making video’s right now. But people should know there are tons of good engi builds out there that haven’t been posted anywhere!
I like the basic idea of the flamenommer. Makes using an FT sound . . . delicious!
Loudmouth, lousy PvPer, and mediocre PvEer.
I don’t own, I just play
Oh, thanks for this thread. My engie is only lvl 5, but I might work on him sometime.

have experimented with a bunch of builds here and there stumble onto some that are worthwhile for an engineer in pvp.
First build i ran was a typical static discharge one.. 10/20/0/10/30 with berserker
Tough/vit bomb heals and boon, EG support, heals, etc, —ran with the cleric --
10/0/30/30/0.
I went to a more offensive bunker build that focused on bombs, condition damage and knockbacks to keep my point —25/20/15/10/0 —traited for protection buffs and runes for protection helped out there too. had a really fun time with that.
Now, only now, am I onto a grenadier stream with 30/5/0/5/30, using rampager, which I am having fun with doing damage and ogging the enemy with countless aoes, and using the tool kit which has gained a lot of acclaim in my book by some hilarious vids…
Now I just gotta focus on getting my exotics for wvw and things will be set, GL ANVIL ROCK
(edited by Lunar Corporation.5720)
Anyone else have builds or variations they’d like to add to the list?
I use a slight variant on the bomber / healer build. I don’t use elixer U or trait for faster elixers because it feels like a waste of a trait for just the one. Besides, I’ve always been of the opinion that if I’m in melee range bombing someone, I don’t want to take 50% more dmg.
I slot in elixir R or S depending on what i’m going to do, and I put 10 points into tools so I can get attacks when switching to kits.
Basically run up to the mob with guns blazing, switch to bombs and bomb away. Switch to elixir gun if you need a bit extra healing, and add another super elixir ontop of it if you need a bit more. Don’t forget about the healing mist regen and of course the medkit if you really want to add to the healing fun.
The build is 10 / 0 / 30 / 20 / 10
I use Rifle for enhanced CC, leap finisher and the #4 attack to get out of melee quickly if needed.
In the inventions line I trade out power shoes for cloaking device (cuz I think its fun)
And in the alchemy line I trade out the 10 and 20 slot for self regulating defense and backpack regnerator.
So far I’ve been enjoying this build quite a bit. Decent DPS with bombs, less so with the rifle but hey it’s ranged. Plenty of healing! I use power / prec/ toughness gear to stack up the dps a bit. Currently I run runes of Lyssa but am considering a swtich to rune of water.
heres my Rifleman build, it’s gotten some positive feedback.
i call it potatobuild because sometimes it feels like i’m shooting idaho spuds right out of my SPAS-12. as you can see from the title of the thread, don’t take the build overly serious, as it started as something i did for the lulz and it stuck somehow.
this is a PvX build, works in almost every situation.
lets start with my trait setup, 0/30/20/10/10.
all your usual rifle mod traits(except the range amplifier)
so that means Hair trigger, rifle mod, and go for the eyes.
fire arms major traits:VI, IX, X
inventions major traits:II, V(explosive descent and energized armor[adds about ~90 to attack)
alchemy: II, fast acting elixirs
tools: II, static discharge
utilities: tool kit, elixir s, grenade kit, and med kit as the heal skill/speed buff(it’s much more reliable than elixir B, and i use that in place of nade kit when i’m running pistols)
with this build you are basically the aggro-puller in almost every aspect of the game, whether you’re assaulting titanpaw camp on a borderland, or fighting enemy players and instance mobs. However the goal of this build is to survive almost everything any sort of enemy can throw at you(I made this build to beat thieves, unexpected that it works on much harder targets)
my current stats: 2973 attack, 41% crit chance, 17,142 hp, 3176 armor. you’d think that isn’t a lot of hp, but considering how much 3176 armor mitigates, it’s not that bad. I use a mix of knight’s armor and invader’s exotics, with superior runes of the engineer.i recommend you just get crests of the soldier instead of what i did.(my trinkets aren’t even full exotic yet so these stats will go up by a few hundred)
this build allows for maximum long range damage as well as incredible close range survivability and DpH(damage per hit)
what i think people are missing with rifle is the combos. while i agree with a lot of the negative sentiments of engineer’s rifle, i do think people don’t see the immense damage that comes from using overcharged shot in combo with jump shot and nade barrage or throw wrench. and if all those crit, your target is practically gone!
As true as Odin’s spear flies,
There is nowhere to hide.
Thanks for combining these down into a single thread.
Nice thread idea, Loybo. Two quick things — while SD is a fairly high DPS build (but probably not as high as HGH Elixirs), I think it’s even more notable for being our highest burst build (important for player killing). The other thing is that SD pairs great with Grenades and because you don’t yet have a link to a build for that, here is a thread I wrote on that build:

Thanks Destroyer! I’ll update the thread to clarify this with SD, and add the variation.
Thanks again LOL I have to laugh at some of the names, shooting idaho spuds from my gun WOOT
I run a Grenadier/SD build, 30 10 0 0 30. Its entire purpose is vuln stacking in pve for dungeons, while offering some control and good dps.
Its basically your typical grenadier glass cannon build, but I do a mix of gear that gives me 20k hp 2400 armor while keeping 3300 power and 80 crit damage, crit is only 33 but has fury a lot. No condition damage for a variety of reasons.
Uses Med kit, Tool kit, Goggles, Grenade kit,, and Supply crate(of course).
Basically it does a Analyze/netshot combo for an immediate 15 stacks of vuln, followed by barrage for a few more. Depending on the group I can sit in nades if the boss isnt mobile and lay down blinds, chills, poison fields, and bleeds like crazy.
If its a more mobile fight I focus more on rifle control and SD bursts.
Lots of damage in most any style, but be ready to dodge condition mobs, conditions is the builds weakness, for some fights I will drop SD for kit refine and swap tools for elixer gun for the instant condition removal swap.
Point is, I dont think any other prof can keep the amount of vuln we can on a mob.
Regular silver mob? Its got over 20 stacks of vuln in 2 seconds.
Even champion/boss mobs will hit 20 stacks and stay over 10 usually.
If anyone else in the group is bringing vuln too, its a kitten near permanent 25% dmg inc for the party.
Here’s mine. It isn’t perfect. It’s just something I’ve been running with. I’m too lazy to change trait lines. This started out as what I ended up with from soloing a lot in PvE with turrets. Then I discovered how great the underrated elixir gun is for group play in PvE or WvW and came to value doing combos. I trade out grenades for elixir S or a flamethrower or turret at times. I also adjust trait skills depending upon the situation.

I’ve been planning out my build for when i get my engineer leveled up, and was looking at HGH Grenadier: http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-VRw;2Z;0h0s57QFx0;9;4T;0T916A;419A5;1o0;3H70;35Bx is that a good build for running PvE content? mostly dungeons.
it should be able to keep up 9-10 stacks of might from elixirs easily, and then using a superior sigil of battle on an offhand weapon to stack up additional might. it requires a lot of micro though, which might lower the DPS compared to some builds with the time spent drinking/throwing elixirs, but you also help your team with the thrown H/B. the traits of course, can be changed depending on the content you’re doing, but i was looking at this as a base.
another build i was looking at was 30/0/0/20/20 since alchemy and tools just have a lot of fun traits, this could be an SD/grenade build as well, just hard to choose.

Hey all, i’m interested in checking out most of these builds, however most of the links are coming up as “Bad links”. Any idea how to fix that or what i’m doing wrong?
you’ll have to copy and paste them directly into the address bar, or if you use chrome, highlight it and click “go to: http://blah”
when i say, copy, i mean ctrl+c copy, not copy link address. it’s an issue with these forums.
Veterans of the Mists [redt] – Crystal Desert
Any link with “gw2skills.net” is going to have issues here.
Because each link has a semicolon, the scourge of the punctuation world.
Something to do with the forum’s programming language or formatting code I think.
it has the same problem with the into the mists builder.

well, if one is going to play engineer because they like that flavor the best, might as well put the best toppings on it too.

just wanna share my tanky rifle build.
playstyle is pretty simliar to tankcat but u use some cc instead of the shield skills and ur dmg potential is still ok.

It’s pretty much built to get an extra tick of bleed on pistol auto and extra burn tick from incendiary powder, while having decent direct damage as well. I mainly use bomb kit for BoB and smoke, but the others are effective at applying damaging conditions as well.

Loybo, here’s a build you might call “Quite a Bit of Everything.” It’s tough but does damage, healing and clears conditions. I use it for tPvP. I accepted a while back I’d never be the best DPS, bunker or support, so tried to embrace the idea of being all three.
It takes a fair amount of kit swapping to play, and benefits from utilising its combos frequently (particularly aoe retaliation and fire field).

On the face of it, you might think it looks a bit like the healer-bomber you’ve already got, but it’s got a couple of key differences in traits and escape.
I’ll post this again here since nobody ever responds to my other posts. My most successful sPvP and tPvP build so far, and one of the best 1v1 specs I’ve found for an Engie so far.
http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mcMM9VmTMCMmvMCM0aaxGozombMR8khd7070m7kIN70V7owY8ofy
You can swap out Rocket Boots for Goggles or Elixer R if you don’t care about the extra toolbelt slot for Static Discharge. Against heavy condition players or teams you can run Elixer C in place of Rifle Turret, though you really lose a lot there in terms of versatility, Rifle turret really is fantastic with the static discharge build.
Mastering the synergy between rifle and Toolkit is a must for this build, however, as it’s a very big see-saw between attack and defense. This spec will also make you nearly unburstable without sacrificing too much offense.
Just realized, you know there is a sticky for this whole topic right? I posted here too, didn’t realize it, but maybe it could be useful to draw all this stuff into the sticky cuz there are some awesome builds here

Holy cow! No wonder everyone keeps complaining about engies being OP :P. With builds like that, all you have to do is use Jump Shot in place and kill everyone on the map. I mean with a combined damage of 12,821,760 and a radius of 1,123,024,896 everyone on the map dies (see the attached pic from the build site if you don’t believe me). I see that you give up all condition damage, but who cares! This is not just 1v1, it’s 1vEveryone.
