Paladin Build 2.5 Here: http://full.sc/1aoFzy0 updated 11/5/2013

About a clear year ago I made this build. When I made it I had every intention of upgrading out of it. I had a successful 1.0 and a successful “still” used 2.0. So when I made the 2.5 as you can see in the name. I was like this is temp they’ll fix things…..Well….a year later we are still talking about fixing things. The purpose of this build was to emulate paladin play. It was never about being the highest dps or support. It was meant to do exactly what it does. Be a hybrid with control over you’re own fate. I wanted to be tough do damage heal and support.

Now some people complain by doing that you can’t succeed. Well obviously a whole year 26,000 views later 100+ comments likes etc. I proved that not to be the case. People gonna hate like Republicans. But in the end it’s all about what you want to do. And nobody else really matters at that point. I’m reposting this because I was asked to on a couple of sites. Reddit mmorpg.com to name a few. To clear up confusion and quite frankly I don’t have the same gear I did a year ago. Main confusion came from me doing a live stream. With a slightly altered 2.5 it made my EP 5000 and people were like wtf fake video.

What that was is my 3.0 I never released because I don’t like Zeal. Much like many people on here don’t like the Zeal line. But I still very much use the 2.5 in the video. It’s Ep is 4300 I updated the link with current gear. I’m not maxed geared so geared out people will be higher. Power is higher but the reason behind it is the same. Great Sword for dps hot swap to staff to support your team. Use your shouts wisely a long with purging flames. Remember because of lack of virtue points. You need to be on top of watching when to use support. It’s not as easy as it would if you traited into it. But if everything was easy be no point to a challenge.

Old Retired 2.0 Build Support/Roamer

Hello all I’m back with a revamped build for all. Around two weeks ago I came up with a Guardian Paladin wow style build. Some viewed it as a glass cannon “can’t possibly live” some said. Well they were proven wrong. But I was not satisfied with that build. It wasn’t enough sustained healing for my liking and not enough defenses.

So enter Guardian Paladin 2.0 version. In this version you have more defense, sustained healing, higher burst crits, and the ability to cancel 8 attacks in a row with skill. Does that sound fun and extremely good to you? Well let me start with the build
http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mccz0mzz0MnLwcMnLwc0VxxVozqcsa08kiG707kiG7kil7070z7kGL70V

I went mainly with Berserker Gear that consists of Power, Precision, and crit damage. You follow that up with Runes of Divinity. What I have learned in this game is sometimes more is not more. What I mean by that is the absence of the power traits. Reason for that is after a point crit becomes more and more useless to you like in all games. It seems this game that happens around 45-50%.

Without all but 5 points in Radiance I managed to get up to 45% crit. That is more than enough for what the goal of the build is. The zeal line outside of power seems a bit useless to me. I don’t need a ton of crit due to the gear already having enough. That eliminates 2 trait lines you don’t really need. Now granted with zeal you will hit harder but you will lose something else. This is originally what the first build was.

A glass cannon that could heal itself and survive encounters. Now this is actually fun but at the end of the day too kitten you. So I made the choice glass cannon or be a cannon. What I mean by that is a tough build that can dish it and tank it. As well as heal whatever is around it and I succeeded in doing that. I learned a slight lesson in this game pve/pvp wise.

I was at the point I noticed people dying long before I finished a combo. That was in glass cannon builds so you start to think. You realize you don’t need all that radiance if they going to die that soon. So i scaled back and tested looked around. And I found I wasn’t the only one who figured it out if anything I’m late. Thus the revamp of 1.0 to 2.0 and I love it.

This consist of 5 Radiance 30 Valor and 30 Honor 5 Virtue. I believe this is one of the best balances of power you can get. The purpose of the build is to be a dps healer at the same time. This is hard to do without getting a nerf bat swung down kitten you.

Very solid build Silentstorm, have you ever tried your staff with this build? For a more solo playstyle I am thinking of swapping in Monk’s Focus for Altruistic Healing, Smite Condition for Purging Flames, and Sanctuary for Bow of Truth.

What runes are you running in you weapons right now?

Also nice to see somebody posting about how good the class can be as opposed to the people constantly yelling about the class being weak. Keep up the good work.

Nice work. And nice considerations about the critical chance limit (see also the tread about Crit Dam vs Crit Chance).

I’m curious to know your equipment (armor and runes… are you still using Berserker armor and divinity runes?), in particular your weapons stats and your trinkets Have you increase healing power in such a way?

Thanks!

P.S.
I still love the combo between Empowering Might and Altruistic Healing in any case :P

Yea once I reached 43% I started going power vit healing. I still have a few more items to change. I’m not in love with condition damage on guardian. It doesn’t seem to be as strong to me as other classes I tried. Oh and also I did a few pieces on toughness. I’m still trying to see the balance as far as pvp. But in most cases once im on someone doing my combo’s they go down. Pretty much the same way when i was glass cannon it.

Nice…in terms of trait lines this was exactly what I was planning for 80. Wondered if it would be viable with all DPS-oriented gear, and glad to see it probably is.

One good thing is that you can adapt this build to be a lot more defensive if you switch some trait choices around and change weapon sets (i.e., without having to respec). For example, you can change symbol healing to Pure of Voice and go with shouts, or change AH for meditation healing if you want to go with meditations, or switch to Empowering Might if you decide not to go 2-handed. It looks very versatile. Good to see it works!

Another good vid Silent. Thanks for sharing!

You and I seem to be running almost parallel builds in ways. Differences in trait choice but similar point placement. And its funny that we came to the same conclusion recently.

I went for a more glass cannon build just recently and although i loved the damage. You were correct in stating that people would often die before you could finish combos and in a 1v1 or WvW Roaming it destroys other people.

But when i’d find myself struggling to manage my HP and see dmg come at me in the truck load when i’d either be fighting a +2v1 or general zerg skirmish that most multi-person threat/attention would have you dropping in hp like a rock. 2k Med heals are great but not when it only saves you from 1 or even less then 1 attack sometimes.

The crit makes sense too. After 50% your criting so often that the cost to put it up any higher is actually taking away from other more important stats that are more useful. Infact i actually went with a 33% crit chance and a sigil of perception/food to make up for crit % (in WvW)

Posted up a thread not too long ago asking for some opinions. I’d love a review and opinion if you guys the time.

I’m looking for a Greatsword, Sword/Something build like this that focuses on Altruistic Healing and spreading boons around, that also has some defensive capabilities for when I switch to Sword. This looks like it’s pretty much what I was working towards. For gear, do you think using Power/Tough/Vit armor, and then Berserker Weapons, Cleric Jewelry, and Precision based runes, would work well with this build?

Won’t say it’s a good/bad build, since each guardian finds his own path.

However, I do feel that Altruistic healing and empowering should be mandatory in any solid build. Not only due to the fact that their sync works amazingly well, but also because of the stats that their trait lines boost.

I like spirit weapon build as well as an alternative. And fully traited weapon spirit shield is simply awesome to play with, in both pve and pvp.

Looks like a team paradigm build to me lol you invented it haha.

First time I have seen this build there bub, go spread your love for team paradigm elsewhere. I don’t even think he was claiming it as his own, but sharing it with the community.

Aside for pimp-slapping this suckup; I wanted to say that I am loving the guardian, and mostly because of this build (or a variation of). I come from the necro ranks, and playing the guardian is not only fun, but it seems incredibly balanced, and well put together. The trait lines and combinations thereof just synergize so well. Trust me, a lot of traits in necro don’t even work, let a lone synergize. You can tell the devs put a lot of time into this class and worked it quite well. I have had fun in wvw, and pve seems so stable. You can be tough as nails and still put out great damage without having to run a glass cannon build. Plus, its amazing healing and removing conditions on those around you, repeatedly. All things you can’t do on a necro, even a necro support with their kitten long kitten cooldowns.

Anyways, thanks for the build, helped me focus a bit. I combine your build with what is posted in the altruistic healing sticky by Brutality, which is also an amazing resource.

Btw, do you run a knights armor setup? Thinking knights armor combined with some clerics and beserker’s trinkets to balance things out. too bad there are no percision, toughness, vitality trinkets.

I fell in love with the guardian because of:

sword/focus + staff and 20/15/30/0/5 with judge’s intervention, smite condition and
signet of judgment. Signet of restoration and signet mastery trait in radiance. I let the
elite depend on the situation, I don’t really use or consider elites in my build because
of the insane cooldowns and short durations. on top of lackluster, weak effects other
than the one fullheal, which I find less amazing in effect than it sounds. In valor I take
monk’s focus to get the healing on meditations.

I take full knight gear, the +30% critdamage from valor are enough damage for me, and
the large amount of toughness seems worth more than the few extra critdamage %’s.

I am kind of doubting though between 20 in zeal and 20 in virtues. 20 in virtues gives
me either 30 second duration elite, or 3 conditions removed by activating resolve, and
20 in zeal gives me fall damage reduction and focus offhand cooldown recharge, as well
as a nice +200 power and +20% burn duration.

I just can’t choose.

Well considering I already have the goal of 47% crit which is 2% higher than I wanted. I used my remaining 2 trinkets to get vitality/healing/toughness. One of the reason you don’t see me go down fast in my vids. I tend to outheal the damage as long as I play well. And don’t fail to things like boss mechanics and standing in fire lol.

One other thing Ill add as of today staff is my new favorite second weapon. The second nuke is awesome damage long as you don’t activate it and you can spam it. The utility it has with the 3 skill field of speed and healing if you have the trait is op. The 4 heal doesn’t need to be explained. And the 5 skill has it’s times where it saves a life and gets you time for the 4 skill heal.

I thought about making a 3.0 because of how good staff is now. But I’ll pass on that you get the idea in this post enough.

Adding my praise to choir about this design. Very good balance between aggression and support in the “build”. Glad to see you’re using the staff now. Its a great weapon for this setup. You should make a 2.5 video update about the staff to boost converts to the weapon. Before I had watched your video I would ignore the racial elites thinking them inferior to the profession skills. Those pups have saved me from death when soloing by drawing the attention of mobs so I can run if I get in over my head. I have use them keep a champ busy while I grab skill point. However I have also been using Renewed Focus. I can pop Virtue of Justice for an aoe blind (with trait), then Virtue of Courage, punch Renewed Focus for 3 seconds of invulnerability and recharge my all my virtues for a second round of aoe blind group aegis. Think about all that damage mitigation. All this for a 90 second cool down on Renewed Focus; short for a Guardian Elite.
Your thoughts?

I’m waiting on the upgrade on this build. Because basically only change I have to say is I use staff with it now. I don’t like to waste any ones time so I’ll just wait for more valid changes to come. Yea the dogs are very underrated but they have helped me in PVE/PVP. They can’t be used in spvp I was sad faced on that.

Yea renewed Focus is also under used if you look at this forum section. A lot of people ignore it but you shouldn’t. It has burst dps implications and huge mitigation use. But than again this is a forum so hopefully someone sees this and finds use of the information.

I have never followed your previous attempts at a Paladin build, though it seems you’ve ended up in the exact same trait build I’ve been using on My Guardian. I too agree that out seems like it’s the best compromise between critical chance, damage, toughness AndHP. Don’t Think I can play with any other build on My Guardian.

And about it being a ‘Team Paradigm’ build, I’ve never heard of you guys and have never tag this guide, and I happen to have a very similar build. Why? Because it works. There will always be someone out there with the same build.

ok I have a question. Im currently using Orbs for prec/crit/power in my armor but im thinking of using runes to add length to boons like my Ele uses. 2 Runes of major water, 2 superior water, 2 superior monk. for WvW/PVE that gives us 45% more time with each boon. Also I decided against using symbols heal all allies because with GS/Staff there arent enough symbols I actively use…unless I switched staff for hammer. Instead I use the trait to give might on criticals, and I usually hit a good 7 stacks or so per fight. So im thinking with longer boon duration I will accumulate much more might and regeneration. Also, im thinking of using Save Yourself if the boon duration helps with this build. Thoughts?

Well Azure if you use GS alot combined with the 2H CD reduction you actually use the symbol alot. And if its a case of alot of melee in the group or a group activity in the world. Say like protecting npc’s while they do repair something. I use the ghost bow and the symbol on top of them to directly heal them. But the beauty of the game is you can do whatever you feel comfortable with. I personally don’t have a problem killing anyone. So I scale back on overpowering and work more on healing and passive healing.

Oh and @Deathlust I just this morning was called “Wall Guardian” Because these two thiefs couldn’t kill me. I ended up killing one and stalled long enough on the second to get back up.

@Azure
Here is what I have been running and it seems to keep me and my allies up.
Traits : 0/10/30/30/0
Radiance: Signet Mastery
Valor: Meditation Mastery, Retributive Armor, and Altruistic Healing
Honor: Writ of Exaltation, Empowering Might, and Writ of the Merciful
Gear: Full exotic berserker armor with 5 Superior runes of the grove. Exotic berserker great sword with major sigil of bloodlust. Cleric staff with sigil of air. Berserker rings, earrings, and amulet.
Skills: Signet of Reslove, Stand Your Ground, Hold the Line, Smite Condition, and Renewed Focus (elite).
Let me first say that this is a modified version of Silent’s Paladin build so credit where credit is due.
My set up is all about the boons while keeping respectable crit chance and damage. Right now I get 41% crit chance so I can keep around 2 to 3 stacks of might on folks and more in bigger fights. Altruistic Healing + Stand Your Ground + Hold the line in a 6 man group = 24 boons that all give me a healing benefit. Then I still have the staff skill Symbol of Swiftness which damages foes, heals (with the trait), and give me a heal because of the boon it provides. Then Empower which has its own built in heal and the stacks of might in big groups also gives me heals. The greatsword’s default attack ends with might boon so heal and the 4 skill symbol of wrath give me a boon, damages foes, and heals me. All this with our passive regen ability and last but not least the nuke selfheal of signet of resolve.
The 5 Superior Runes of the Grove give me a 25% chance on hit to give me protection boon for 4 seconds with a 30 second cool down. Trust me, you will be surprised how often this triggers. Oh and it’s a boon so heal from Altruistic Healing.
Something else to remember is that those symbols can generate critical hits just like weapons. So if you read the battle field right, you can place the symbol from the staff on one fight and join in at another part and drop the symbol from your greatsword. Then spin and watch the might boons start stacking up on your team and healing pour on to you.
Haven’t tried this out in any of the PvP formats but in PvE it’s been a lot of fun.

I hope it works for you. Just remeber that the healing isn’t going to be the same as healing in other mmos. Its not going to out pace the damage you take so don’t expect to fight like a tank. Think of the healing as damage mitigation.
