Sylvari Male here. Had the concept of a villianous Sylvari that used hallucinogenic & poisonous spores in addition to illusions. I’ve seen a pretty diverse mix except Male Norn Mesmer and Female Charr… anything.

Yah most are, but most players are human females. I would love to have stats like in the open beta too.
My main is a male norn mesmer which doesn’t look like a mesmer. People get confused with a heavy armor profession.
Male sylvari, male charr and female asura for mine. You do see a lot of human females, but that goes for ele too.

I’m playing a female human mesmer. T3 human (because skimpy armors are totally legit on mesmer).
Indeed they are.
My first mesmer was a charr female, but the mesmer’s lack of a speed buff makes large characters like charr and norn feel ponderous. When I decided to reroll her as a descendant of my GW1 mesmer, that necessitated human. Now I have my three “angels” (a Krytan mesmer, Canthan guardian and Elonan [now that’s a rarely played race] elementalist) and am officially done with humans. If I could go back and change it, I’d have rolled Asuran. The world needs more mini-clones.
We got a brief census chart during beta, but I haven’t heard of anything accurate since. Human was, far and away, the most popular race, exceeding some by more than double. I’d be cool if we could get more up to date and fleshed out stats.
I see the least charr mesmers, and slightly more norn.
Then come sylvari and asura, and the most are indeed human female :P

I would be very surprised if the mesmer distribution didn’t reflect the general distribution, being human females at the top.
That being said, sylvari is actually where it’s at.

Human female Mesmers look good in the skimpy outfits.
Female Norn Mesmer here! I like the Norn tribal outfits with some more fantastic touches for the mesmer stylishness.
Female Slyvari here.
And this is why:
Spoiler: Book: Destinys Edge (not big spoiler but still a spoiler)
In the book that tells the story of the destinys edge Caith walks around in Lions Arch and notices even the smallest details of her surroundings. This and the skill to perfectly interpret these information is a typical nature of this race that’s just curious about everything they see.
As a former Guild Wars 1 mesmer I though that again we will be able to precise interrupt our enemys. The mentioned skill of the Sylvari race would perfectly fit for that. So regarding the lore Sylvari are the best mesmers.
Female just because I like females more than males. :>

Yeah I see a lot of human females XP
men seem to enjoy making female characters…. > <
while i know alot of girls stick with being realistic and female
cuz we don’t care about staring at men!!!! XDDD
so you have double the amount.
And then you have mesmers that make pretty purple/pink skill effects,
which again limits the number of male characters.
Human female here as well; mainly because I thought it would fit with the noble background. You know; with already having other upper class human females being Mesmers… like Queen Jennah, Countess Anise or (how we got to know very recently) Lady Kasmeer.
And while I’m not a hardcore-roleplayer, I still have some idea/story in mind for each of my characters. And this just fitted so well for me.
Human Female Noble here as well. XD Mine focuses primarily on Inspiration magic, and she joined the Vigil; I envision her as a sort of spellcaster who uses Mesmer magic to inspire and uplift the soldiers fighting under her. Along with Time Warp.
Male Asura, short as possible, Yoda esq, love blurred frenzy, hovering like a boss.

For me personally, my experience is that female characters have better armour in basically every video game ever and some real nice voice actresses. Taking guild wars as an example, the female armours are just full of variety while male ones are just different types of bland and I honestly could not recognise some of the armours they’re that uninteresting whereas there’s the human and norn female cultural armours that are extremely distinctive while on male they’re just light generic, medium generic or in the case of norn heavy, generic fantasy spike armour. If anet made male faces, bodies and armour that didn’t just plain suck I would be more interested in making male characters, because I mean male human has great VA and while most people hate it, I like the way they hold greatswords, I mean whenever I want my male character fix I just carry about 20 ascalonian Mage tonics around – in addition the voice has a cool filter and my warrior has foefire’s essence which just fits perfectly.

“colesy’s on rampage today. Slaying casuals left, right and centre” – spoj
It’s actually Charr. Only due to Charr culture mesmers are highly frowned upon, and thus, deeply closeted.
I kind of regret not using a Sylvari phantasm Mesmer for pure gameplay purpose…
But everytime I gaze upon the bewbs of my giant Norn I feel satisfied enough.
Female Human Well – just because she’s named after the League of Legends Mesmer – Madame Le Blanc <3

As a girl I leaned towards mesmer bc it’s the most ‘femine class’
I have 2 mesmer a norn mesmer female and human mesmer- I like the human cultural T2 better for a mesmer reminds me of Gw1 mesmer armor.
whilst T3 Human looks too much like something an Ele would wear.
Most aren’t very stylish IMO most go all out one color- purple/black or have some ugly atrocious armor combo.
Such as Arah mantle with non matching armor- it’s a really unconventionally ugly look – not flattering at all with the bulkyness.
:D

This is my mesmer. Also a few of my guildies all rolled an Asura mesmer. We thought it would be funny to have a roaming party instantly transform into 20 little dudes all over the place XD

Wow human male I feel so special and unique!
I tried to play a sylvari…man that lasted about 5 minutes and I have a difficult time playing a female character even if they have better armor options and animations.
Just wish the weapon drawn idle animation was a little better for human males. It just looks odd like the foot is to far back or something and the height the weapons are held at just seems stiff and boring. Like they are planning to run a marathon or something lol I dunno hard to describe I guess.
It’s cool though I love my mesmer…and pink butterflies rock!

Its not the most ‘femine’ class.
Its just the most elegant, unpredictable, deceptive, intelligent, awesome and purple class :P

I loved my Mesmer in GW1 so I again went with human female noble Fleiraw Xaras.
Sylvari male, here. I also rock a purple glow scheme. Although, I will admit Cultural armor looks 10x better on female Sylvari. Eh, I still manage.

I sort of buck the trend as a Male Norn Mesmer
I, too, felt like char and norn were too big and lumbering, so I made the shortest, widest norn I could. He ends up still being a bit bigger and brawnier than a human male without moving and turning like a battleship.
As for looking masculine…two words, ladies, “brick kittenhouse”….now with Poopourri. You can smell the pink butterflies on this one! Manliness and confidence go hand in hand and there’s no reason in my mind why any well adjusted man would turn down the kittenery of the Mesmer just because the spells are pink. On top of that, pink is the breast cancer awareness color, so with every spell you cast, its like you’re celebrating the saving of kittens everywhere. You can’t lose!
As for why all the love for girls, I have to second about the lackluster guy clothes. Its pretty much all robes and nobleman’s garb. The ladies, OTOH, get to show off skin. Its almost like shopping for Halloween constumes. For every ghost, devil or vampire, there’s a sexy ghost, sexy devil and sexy vampiress costume for the ladies.
I’m rocking Dry Bones armor w/ CoF gaunts/boots for the sheer kittenery of it, but for a while I dug the Order of Whispers line to look like the “mime” class from the FF series. Honestly, pale as I am, I would still go full tilt Hulk if I had the option to hide my chest piece and gloves. I’m Norn. I’m proud of my tats. That, and can we “really” make an argument about damage absorbion and skin coverage when T3 human female medium armor sacrifices material that would otherwise cover a woman’s heart for a chance to see some underboob? Really? If the one of the softest vital points on a woman can take the business end of a spear just because its situated in the general vicinity of exotic armor, the granite mountainside that is my chest should be OK for a few stab wounds as long as I’m sporting my +1 exotic codpiece….and some dockers… Lets be civilized.
Anet, if you’re listening, you need to work on the light male armors…. something men look good in…. Aetherblade (minus a few pieces) was a good start. Phoenix…. meh. Nothing to write home about. When you are making an armor set that looks sexy on a woman, when you make the guy’s version, especially the Norn’s, ask yourself, am I looking at a man who can break me in half with his mind? Would such a BAMF wear this? Would someone ever bother to make a Skyrim mod just to use this armor? Could I possibly RP a Bleach character w/ in game armors? Could I ever be mistaken for the Slenderman? or Deadpool? (on that note: MH pistols! DO EET NOW!) In summary, you’d find far more men playing male mesmers if your end game “looks” were more kitten than boobs and butts (Tall order, I know, but worthwhile).
TL:DR – The male Mesmer is one bad motherkittener who can turn everything below your neck into a plate of spaghetti… with his MIND o_o And the last thing you’ll ever see is the fluttering of pink motherkittening butterflies from the clones he just shattered your kitten with… and when the last smirking clone shatters… and he’s nowhere to be seen… you’ll wonder if he ever existed at all. THAT, is how awesome the male motherkittening mesmer is… that man deserves the feel of a good suit.
They had to SPAWN MORE OVERFLOWS!

I imagine Pyro is correct, the Mesmer distribution probably follows the overall distribution.
As for me, female Sylvari and female Asura. My friends have two female Humans, one male Sylvari and one female Asura.
As for the female Chart, how can you tell?

I like te sword animation actually. They hit from right to left on teh first hit, whereas females hit from left to right… right to left just feels more natural to me x.x
Other than that, I hate everything about being a charr :P.
Sometimes it gets bugged and I keep my old form – super happy :o

Male human mesmer here
I had a male mesmer in GW1, so might as well continue the legacy here (but his “great grandfather” was an assassin from Cantha, not my Mesmer from Elona). Although, he is more Tyrian now because err….. his grandad had a thing for Ascalonians lol
I’m usually typing on my phone
Male asura, why because my friend also has a male asura, that’s like 90 freaking mini targets in wvw.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
