I think the nerf was implemented because you could set a macro to attack and cancel the auto attack causing it to hit really fast, and if you pair this with the incoming axe trait, your axe skills would always be off cooldown. But they should have tackled it a different way and reinbursed the weapon with SOMETHING. And dat animation…still terrible.

yeah, the weapon needs a total rework. animations notwithstanding. I really want to like this weapon, too, but taking it over dagger and especially greatsword is just not gonna happen.

I also despise the new “sway abit left, then sway abit right” with human female necromancer…

I really liked the old “slash down then slash up” (or was it “slash left then slash up” or rigth then up) animation, it had more punch.

I’m a casual PvE adventurer, I enjoy combat, adventure and helping, but not farming.
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.

Really kinda sad that aesthetics was the only reason some people used it and only now do we realize there’s no reason to use it at all.

I used it for a bit because I recently finished making Frostfang. Then this change hit and Frostfang has been sitting in my inventory ever since. I’d move it to my Ranger if she didn’t have a fire motif going with her armor and weapons. My Warrior isn’t 80 yet, so that’s a no-go as well.

Im not sure why. Playstyles, looks etc are an integral part of why ppl play gw2. A considerably large portion of the population wont follow metas and viable builds. The old axe was fun to use for me. Cant say the same for dagger despite its advantages.

Instead of staff for power necro in pvp I take axe/dagger so it’s an issue for me x(

I’ve seen other power necros with axe as well. I mainly use it to get rid of the immune to first condi on engis, and combo axe 2 with weapon swap sigils and other things. axe 3 is mainly for peeling off because it has a nice range to it. It is also a good indicator if there are stealthed enemies nearby. I use axe 1 in certain situations, but it doesn’t feel worth it anymore. Fix the animation doe pls.

Axe might be a kitten weapon, but we also have staff, an equally kitten weapon in power builds. So when it comes down to battle of the least awful yeah Axe wins sometimes.

To be honest the old animation is pretty good I just settle down for it in power build I don’t feel like jumping on the staff train when I just started to stop using it in condition spec,#2 & #3 are decent the purpose of AA is just terrible the new Axe Mastery too just terrible.

It’s not like I cared too much for the old animation, but this one has lots of issues.

First of, the animation makes it look like all you do is flail the axe around in the air, and not specifically slice against your target. It looks right trough dumb when fighting with axe.

Second, off-hand weapon magically disappears when casting main hand Rending Claws, but then re-appears when casting other axe abilities

and third, doesn’t this pose look way unnatural? Can’t even see her face as she faces the ground mid-animation for some weird reason

I would like to see axes fixed. I’m looking forward to making a reaper when HoT comes out that uses a lot of LF, but I have no idea on my second weapon because it needs to be semi-ranged and staff is iffy. If they fix axe so its 1 and 3 are better, I’d be a happy mancer.

You still use staff like every necro spec unless they magically boost axe range to match. They have that “it will be OP” mentality with necro on almost everything.

Tbh even on condi it’s not so attractive that’s why one suggestion was allowing Dhummfire to work on it’s AA it’s better than scepter ironically so paired with d/WH it’s what we have to settle down for.

You missed a very big thing right there…the problem is not necro it’s PvE. There is always a optimal set anyway.

It used to be a thing on guardian but got gutted mesmer is too glass for that necro facetanks more than warrior so it fits vs players there is just lack of uptime retaliation possible on necro at least without garbage trait and weapon. Anyway let’s stick to axe animation since even that became garbage.

Retaliation on a Mesmer? That’s almost as scrub as being serious about PvE on a Necro.

Ugh, Sagat you’re right. Frankly, the current animation is an embarrassment to the design team + balance team coordination.

this forever. I’ve suggested before, add a third hit to make it a chain like warrior axe 1 (but at range; just use their animation)

skill #2 could be alright but as people have stated it should be a whirl finisher. i suggest 3-5 targets in an area around the focused target.
Also axe and dagger #2 should give the ‘need a target’ error if you try to use the skill without one/in range.
3 could be a blast finisher; i’m not sure what else you could do without completely changing the skill

Axe 2 should get the cast time reduction treatment of rapid fire.

Dagger 2 should be a background channel that once you press starts casting but you are able to do other things. Make it 600 range aoe, it will add considerable sustain to a necromancer getting trained.

Dagger 3 should pull the mob to the necro and immobilize them. Reduce the cast time it’s so hilariously long just like the focus 5.
