My Wells and Life Stealing are HEALING the enemies
There has to have been something you dint see surely this would have had lots of reports since it would have had to have been since the last patch and people would have noticed.
I’m pretty sure that you likely just put your 15th point into the Blood Magic trait line.

Green numbers are heals on you…. Turn on your blasted combat log… granted last i looked at it… it was pretty much useless.
Also as far as I remember selks or w/e those things are called regenerate pretty fast.
(edited by HiSaZuL.2843)
please, before you even say things like “green numbers are heals on you” etc. The enemy has no self heal…. why then would his health go up as my well pulses? Check the last 3 screens i posted. The enemies are clearly regaining health with each well pulse.
Here is the same this duplicated with a moa bird…. the first screen is me just damaging the enemy….
Each screen after is taken while the bird is in my well of blood…. its health is CLEARLY rising.
My Wells and Life Stealing are HEALING the enemies

I use well necro all the time and can’t say I’ve ever seen this happen… Screenshots look pretty convincing tho.
I’ve posted this in the bug forum after confirming this with a guildie on her necromancer… If you want to try it out for yourself…. just use well of blood near an enemy that does not have full hp (I’m pretty sure you need at least 15 points in blood magic as well)
Wow, i am going to have to test this myself, even though the moa screenshots are convincing I just still have to see it myself.
Well I’ll be… moa screenshots are convincing. Never seen moas having regen of any kind. Those lizards tend to have hidden regen even past the regular boon regen but moa…. never seen that.
Well… then again… this is necromancer we are talking about… the bug infested kitten hole. So I’m not really surprised.
Ive never noticed until now, but you are correct, not just wells but attacks in general are healing the enemy. Not much, but still. Ive been testing out both dagger and axe/focus attacks and they can also proc healing on the enemy, as well as both damaging wells and DS attacks. This is without the trait of wells siphoning health.
I just tried this as well with my lvl 80 necro and got similar results.
I went and fought lvl 15 deer in the Wayfarer Foothills – I turned off autoattack, hit one a few times, then put down Well of Blood (first with and then without Vampiric Rituals). When the grandmaster trait was on, I’d see two green numbers on the deer – and it was noticibly healing. If Vampiric Rituals wasn’t traited, I only saw one green number (the smaller of the two previous – which had pretty much no effect on the deer’s health bar). Since I was in the Well also (and the deer was attacking me), I’d see three green numbers when Vampiric Rituals was traited – two when it wasn’t.
My guess? For me, Well of Blood isn’t actively healing the enemy, but the life-stealing traits ARE – and the game is counting each tick of Well of Blood as a “hit”. So when both Vampiric Rituals and the minor trait that makes you siphon life on a hit are active: two heals to the enemy. When Vampiric Rituals isn’t active, it’s just the minor trait causing the (very minor) heal.
Thanks for finding this, TheBlackLeech – I hope they can fix it soon.
And I always wondered why the green numbers for the life steal traits on hit/crit appeared above the heads of my enemies. Did anyone test dagger #2 yet? It would be great of someone could systematically test all the different life steal skills and traits the necro and combinations of those and add the bugs to the long list. At least this explains why a blood magic build always felt so underwhelming.
Now I wonder if my initial thought that some enemies had passive non-visible regen were simply getting healed from vampiric traits… meh this game gets more broken by the minute.
I really do hate to say this, but you’re really doing yourself a disservice by speccing into the life siphon stuff anyway.
The scaling with healing power is almost (or completely) nonexistent.
Toughness is a better survivability stat than vitality on necromancers.
And most importantly, the total amount of life siphon from a traited blood thirst + vampiric + vampiric rituals is less than a single stack of bleed against any target at level 80. Hell, the self-inflicted damage portion of “Blood is Power” deals more damage to me in a power build than I can heal in the same amount of time, using the fastest weapon available to us (unless you remove it quickly).
Good find though- This (especially well of blood itself) is a huge bug.
Your grasp of trait trees leaves much to be desired then… last I checked hate it or love it. MM spec is full of vamp passives and greater simply because nothing else is even remotely relevant. But good job making a whole paragraph about it. And snap… even wells get vamp traits… kitten those pesky passive traits how dare they kitten on your logic?!
Anyone who traits their character based on the stats you gain can generally be ignored anyways.
Now now… mods around these boards don’t check they just suspend as soon as someone gets butthurt or feels that his kitten is being threatened so lets pretend to be civilized and care for our slower brethren.
I even got suspended for pointing out that dude can’t do math >_>
Good grief.
This really is taking the kitten now. I get it can be hard to solve bugs (I’m a tech analyst in a power company) but this really is just ridiculous.
This needs a mod/dev response ASAP.
I can’t confirm whether this happens with Well of Blood, but I DID notice green numbers appearing over my targets when health-siphoning while I was attacking dummies in the Mists. The numbers appeared consistent with what they should have been receiving as damage from the health siphoning though, so I assumed that this was merely a visual bug rather than the health-stealing was actually healing them. (Of course it might have been, but the amount of health that trait steals is far too small for me to be able to confirm visually by looking at their health bars)
At any rate, the bug was reported.
You guys should think more positive.
Finally Mesmer isn’t the only class that can grief allies anymore (portal off a cliff). Now we can gather 10-20 Necros get our healing gear and traited blood wells out and spam heals on the shatterer. Or we could provide Orrian Event NPCs some health care. (That would probably also decrease the time this issue is fixed)
Think of the possibilities.
Chaps, I’ve made an appeal for communication in the main forum. Up to you if you wish to contribute.
BTW, doesnt seem to heal enemies if you dont have points in curses, at least for me, then again, i dont have problems with Plague signet passive (it at least kind works… most of the time) while many others do.
Yes, it sucks. Since they fixed AoEs to steal life, I’ve noticed my staff skills healing enemies for ticks of 25. And all I have is the 15pt box in Blood that I can’t skip.

and btw I re-posted this in the bug forum so a mod can lock this thread whenever

In all honesty I am willing to bet that fixing bugs and just fixing the game in general has been put on hold so they can get the Halloween events in gear. So…. I am thinking we will get bug fixes in March or April. All these bugs are just crazy…. maybe everyone should just roll a warrior and for one day just have everyone ingame as a warrior. /sigh
I cannot replicate this bug. I have gone to Heart of the Mists and tried it on the dummies and test classes (only specced 15 points in Blood, then full 30 for Vampiric Rituals). When that didn’t work I went to Blood Coast right outside Lion’s Arch and tested the bug on Marsh Drakes and Ornery Crabs. Again Wells siphoned health (~5 damage a tick) but did not heal the enemies.
Where did you test this at? It may be a bug with the enemies in that area.
(edited by Munster.3058)
I also cannot replicate this on all types of mobs. I did however see this effect in CoF path 3 last night on that mob which captures you in a circle (Sentinel?).
I am a nercomancer and this bug made me laugh…and also sad.
@SupahSpankeh.8452
Did you expect an answer from that? Pfft get real… anet locks/deletes posts that ask for a response. Welcome to forums that don’t matter.
This isn’t like old Blizzard where when you reported a bug you could even get a GM show up and ask for details. Hell if your guild was fast on raiding content it wasn’t anything special when GM sat through progression with your guild asking question on strategies, getting input on difficulty and what can be changed/improved. Here you just get some random mod close the topic and tell you some kitten nobody cares to hear. This is why I haven’t touched GW2 in a month… still hoping the class that I picked will get at least bug fixes. But… anet is busy with some kitteny festival for which I do not care. It doesn’t matter how great it could be… once I get on my necro any sort of pleasant feeling evaporates. Even the detail of game world doesn’t help anymore. And that was the one and only thing I could praise anet for… details. Now i just can’t care anymore.
In an mmo first priority should be fixing bugs. Not releasing redundant festivals. Especially when game hasn’t even been out for long.
This is simply adorable. Now we’re directly helping our enemies.
Come on Anet, necro is full of bugs, this is a joke or what.
I don’t know what to say, I’m not entirely convinced this is for real, or maybe it’s random or triggered by something. I can’t say I have noticed it, but maybe I haven’t been paying attention while I have been fighting for my life.
Show me a screenshot where you are not standing right there. The heals are on you. Where ELSE do you want them to pop up if you are standing right on top of the target?
Wow, I thought this was happening, but shrugged it off as ‘Nah, no way, Arenanet’s programming can’t be THIS bad’.
“it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun, rather than having fun”
Guild missions say otherwise.
Btw, that video OP has kindly posted up shows this is in fact truth.

I saw this just now, and went into the game because I had to test it myself…
And lo and behold the horror! It’s true for me as well!
My Necromancer is actively working against me by healing the mobs. This is just incredible.
To think, I thought my vanilla WoW hunter had it bad in 2004. Necros worse in 2012, this made me lol off my chair at work, anyone know which is a superior support; waterele, Engi or guardian?
LOL
Ahahahahaha
This just made me laugh so hard, this needs to be looked at ASAP
The person who designed and tested this class?? Was there one?
Seriously though, it happens if you have 15 pts in blood trait AND vampiric wells?

Watched the video. Vampiric builds were half the reason I wanted to play Necro. Thanks ANet!
I just skimmed trough the topic, so maybe this was mentioned before:
After a recent update (the October 18th one, I’m guessing), I noticed that the damage (1/2 of the healing amount, rounded down) from vampiric attacks (the 15pts blood trait in my case) now appeared above my target in white numbers. It’s possible that this was there before, but at least I never noticed it…
Now since this weekend (and afaik there hasn’t been any update since then so I’m a bit puzzled as to what could have caused this), these same numbers are now green instead of white. Long story short, it’s possible that this is just a colouring issue and we’re not actually healing our targets…
Edit: I just watched the video… There goes my theory. :P

That was my exact reaction, lol. Wow. This is hilarious. I always thought Necromancers were working for the enemy, now it’s confirmed. Shame on you guys.
Apparently this requires that the mob starts as yellow.
This makes me very sad :C
Good lord, that’s terrible.
I’ve stopped playing my necro for the most part, but I’m glad to see the hilarious bugs are still coming.
Raises to your QA dept Anet!
@DavidGX
lol @ you guys for thinking Zhaitan was the reason behind the Risen… Muaahhahah
AAAAAHHAHHAHAHA MUUUHUHAUHAUUAHUAHUAHAHAHAHAHHA!
If I was a necro I would use those skills and traits as a sign of protest until arenanet fixed it.
I noticed this as well and I know what the problem is. This only happens when you get downscaled severely (as 60 down to 12 is) and is a result of overcompensating past reasonable amounts, since life steal cannot scale at all besides by level (I think).
