Day 1 Revenant: Level 1 or Level 80?
Additional Class Mechanics:
- Quantum incompatibility: Revenants can’t use Tomes of knowledge, XP scrolls, Skill Point Scrolls, XP boosters.
- “Dude, i didn’t come back just to make you a sammich”: Revenants can’t craft.that would be extremely trollish ^^
although I have still no idea what to do with all hose insta-level-20 scrolls….

That’s what I did with all but one of mine. The rewards on any one run aren’t that great but if you get a ticket you can pick out a nice weapon skin, either for yourself or to sell. And it’s not like you’re going to use up those scrolls leveling alts. Might as well get some benefit from them.
Straight to level 80 with exo to ascended gear if available.
Maybe I will do 2 of them as I have more than 200 tome of knowledge & 1000 scroll of knowledge in bank.
although I have still no idea what to do with all hose insta-level-20 scrolls….

That’s a good idea… would allow me to see all the little branches of the personal story too as I have 20+ something of them now… might as well clear up a couple of bank slots (it’s especially annoying that the 1st birthday and 2nd birthday ones don’t stack).

as I said I’m not gonna delete any of my 5 chars so to do what you say I need moar slots

I bought a character slot when it was on sale and so I use it for a key runner. I love the weapon skins I gotten with it and the boosters, bank accesses, revive orbs, mini pets, trading post accesses, hair stylist kits, make over kits, dyes, merchant expresses, transmutation charges, bonfires, primers, boxes of fun, novelty backpacks and black lion salvage kits are a nice plus also.
Working on getting enough Tomes/writs of experience to hit level 80. I’ve leveled enough the old way, I can learn the class at level 80
I’m gonna use tomes. I imagine revenant will just have a side quest somewhere where you talk to Rytlock, or may not even touch on it. No one cares how I became an engineer. PS is tied to race and won’t change, and I can still play it on my 80. I’ve already been through these god kitten zones so many times that I don’t care. Besides, I always ‘learn’ a character in pvp way before I level the sucker. Normally at level 2 actually. How else would I know if I’m gonna like it? You don’t get all your skills til 30+
Level 80 day one.
Because NPE.
I’m also going to get my Revenant to level 80 straight away. The leveling system is incredibly slow, to really grasp your class you need to be 60+ if not just 80. On top of that open-world provides zero challange, leaving little need to learn a class properly. Lastly most of the challanging content is 50% tactics/dodging the right things, 40% knowing what your team needs (e.g. Stability, Reflects or Might/Fury/Vul) and how your class can provide that and 10% doing an optimal DPS-rotation, for all these things I’ve got eyes to read my skills and traits and make choices based on that.
It’s just a bonus that I’ll be back to only 1 stack of ToKs and only have to buy her gear once.
I’ll use about 65 tomes and pickup the rest of the levels from Personal Story. I find the NPE a drag, and I’m capable of learning what the profession can do by reading the tooltips and experimenting. In fact, presentation of information and the player taking it in are probably the best ways for a player to learn (I blame NPE for the increase in Bearbows, and those guardians I see in dungeons who use “Save Yourselves” and then die all the bleeding they just absorbed).

No point is speculating on it, but I hope that it will be a normal level 1. Until then you have plenty of time to rally some writs and tomes, plus a lv20 ticket. So you can start in ‘quick mode’ but don’t start at 80. I would see it happen.. all these eighties dunno what they’re doing
Reading this thread is leaving me rather torn. I do feel I can figure out the profession starting with all skills available, and I do agree leveling can grate after a while in the NPE (I was fine with working my way up pre-NPE, got 13 80’s that way, just finally hit my 14th on my one post-NPE alt). Though most of the issue is really in the traits revamp, which they’ve said is getting a revision, so leveling could get fun again for me.
Yet I use the leveling time not only to learn the mechanics, but to learn the character. I digress to RP scenes, I let the character tell me his or her reaction to Dynamic Events, and motivation to help others. I develop the voice, and that gets me invested in playing the alt. Leveling gives the alt some history, and thus more lasting power.
I suppose there will be plenty to do, and one needn’t have a Revenant to explore the jungle after all. I’ll have specializations to try out for all the professions, more world to see, new systems to discover. I have enough Tomes that I can skip ahead on my Revenant if I want, but I can’t undo levels if I realize I didn’t want to skip!
Also PSA to those for whom English may not be your main language:
A “tome” is a large book, pages bound between covers. Pronounced toe-m.
A “tomb” is a large vault, usually underground, used to bury the dead. Pronounced toom, perhaps with a slight extra lip press to suggest the b on the end.
Leveling is extremely irrelevant in GW2. I will be using tomes to instant to 80 but I’ll be hunting the traits and such.
I’m using Tomes to level to 80.
I don’t know about you guys, but I know for a fact that my day 1 revenant will be lvl 80 instantly with all his utility skills and traits unlocked.
I’ll also jump straight into sPvP and WvW with the revenant because I’m honestly convinced that’s the best way to truly learn the class, not Anet’s hand-holding NPE nonsense.

Thank you. That would be me not proof reading my post.

Revnant needs to be a hero class with it’s own storyline.
Revnant needs to be a hero class with it’s own storyline.
I don’t see why. No one of any class is treated special in any way. Race was the only thing that mattered and that lasted until level 30. After that, you are the hero. Race/gender/class, none of that mattered.
It wouldn’t make much sense lorewise to start in the normal starting areas as a revenant. Because rytlock is the first revenant and his transformation from a warrior to a revenant happened after the attack of zhaitan. Replaying this story as a revenant wouldn’t make much sense. I think that they will build a new starting area into the mist’s, because rytlock transformed there to a revenant. Maybe they make them to LvL 60 at the creation and you can lvl up to 80 in the mists, before you can leave, to lern how to play the revenant.
You expect too much. Anything that requires player voice acting requires a LOT of work. It’s not going to happen, just like we will probably never get a new race as they would have to develop a personal story from 1-80 with all new voice acting for that race. New revenants could just be others that step from the mists.
And they haven’t mentioned anything on how Revenants will start, so why would they make it different? Continuity? That’s nice, but class is never really refered to in the personal story. Hell, it’s disconcerting as hell to do the personal story now with all the things ruined or altered in the world by the living story. Personal Story came first, yet still got altered because of the Living Story. Why would that change now?
Straight up to lvl 80. got lots of scrolls, tome and writs of exp just sitting in my bank.
I want to start unlocking traits via map completion as soon as possible before doing the living story.
I hate map completion but I want it.
FaTe nooblet
Right now I have 50 Tomes and some level 20 scrolls. When the exp will be release I will most likely have enough tomes to insta 80 2 characters but I won’t.
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
I am going to level up properly. The three bits of the NPE that bug me are the new weapon skill gating, the silly thing where you can’t activate skill points early on and the fact that trait unlocks are not account wide (I like the unlock system, but think it should be account wide for everything except the top tier). The first two annoyances should pass quickly enough as early level gain is apparently much faster, beside which I have a pretty decent levelling bonus thanks to achievements.
I’ll also be doing the personal story again, but my decision to join an order will be a bit of a downer, because I’m essentially choosing which mentor I want to see die.
I’ll be getting to 80 with tomes.
How your char plays at 1-60 is completely different to how it plays at 80. Certain traits can completely change a playstyle, so what you learn on the way to 80 could potentially be useless once you get there because the options you have available to you changed.
I’d rather have all my options available and from there experiment and learn how the class works at it’s full potential.

No way I’m going to quickly level him up to 80. I’m going to savor every level.
I’ve been waiting for another alt to level and I won’t skip the experience.
For those who have the scrolls and tomes, you could make a level 1 and, after the tutorial, level a character to level 80 in a matter of a minute or so of clicking.
So, for those of you who plan on playing revenant on day 1, and have the resources, will you stick to level 1 and do the patient leveling up, or will you go straight to level 80?
Not everyone will be Revenant day 1 I know I might be but it completely depends on what specialisations come out too I mean MESMER with shield is appealing the engineer with hammer is seducing me into making a engineer and also the Druid sounds pretty fun to play, me myself yes I will be using all my tomes of knowledge and scroll of knowledges to get to 80 but I will also be going back through the ZHAITAN story I will also be going for map completion again to make more legendaries and I will be testing every trait out while I do so as with a level 80 I can go map to map testing every trait to find out what works on why situations so I can make some good builds for dungeons, pve, SPvP & WvW
At the end of the day each to there own (: And we might see a ton of level 80’s day 1 but we may also see Druids and the other specialisations as they are announced
“I’m doing the same as Spoj. Straight to 80 and bypassing the horrible cluster___k that is the NPE. I have enough right now to get it to lvl 60. By the time the expansion drops, I’ll have enough to get it to 80.
Anyone know how much gold it takes to buy all the traits?”
Not sure but I thought I heard someone say 250g or there-a-bouts.
personally, i would not even make a new character unless they ether change the trait system so much it’s no brainer easy to use or if they add a retrain profession token, with the later it makes me able to simply use a grandfathered character so trait unlock doesn’t exist anymore for me.

This was already answered on the first page:
At the moment (it is possible that more would be added with an expansion though) it costs 43 gold and 360 skill points to unlock all major traits.
(The wiki also has this information: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Trait_guide.)
But we know they’re changing how trait unlocking works, and maybe they’ll change the prices, too. Who knows.
best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base.”
Pre-launch, Colin listed things that make MMOs bad. They are all now in GW2.
I’ll go strait to lvl 80, equip the ascended armor I’m making for him (not sure which stats yet, apparently sinister will be a good call or probably zerker will still be the only answer) and then map the whole world.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
I would try to get straight to level 80, but I am not sure if making a revenant will work the same as other professions, reason being that the revenant profession wasn’t around lore-wise until hot. But I will get him straight to 80, but still do the main story and living world, main reason because I already have the level 80 gear for him.
Ceara Bramble 80 sylvari engineer.
Freyr Treewalker 80 sylvari ranger.
With no new personal story… scroll+tomes. I’ll be within seconds.
I’ll level to 35 via the Halloween content, then I’ll boost to 80. I’d boost all the way if I had enough tomes, sod levelling normally.
It will be my 16th character. He gets the scroll and tome treatment. It’s not like it’s going to be much different than the BWE’s, and I’ve done Rev in all of them so I feel okay doing so.
Going straight to max level. Leveling is a pointless mechanic from older MMO design that is outdated since the masses realize its really just useless grind time sink…
I will level mine to 80 with tomes. Does anyone know if you need to finish your Personal Story to play HoT story with a fresh 80 ? I’m tired of doing the PS, but want to play revenant on HoT
Spamming the tomes in my opinion is unhealthy in general. When im going to play hot i dont want to burn through. With raids and new legendaries coming into game after the launch will create even more options. I dont want to be in that place where i have nothing to do. Ill go at my own pace of the game. With any new class that i played i didnt tome because i wanna know how the class feels and works. I recommend for people to work on their revenants slowly, and if you wanna play the story as quickly as possible use your main.
I have over 210 tomes and I already have 17 lv. 80 characters. I’ll be clicking both my Revenants straight to 80, tyvm.
Straight to 80 while still in the starting instance. I’m not going to waste any exp that could have gone towards a mastery line.
ANet may give it to you.
It’s confirmed by Roy that tomes and scrolls will work for the revenant (in the revenant forums: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/revenant/Revenant-Leveling-Tomes-Scrolls-etc )
Level 30 scroll and tomes for me. I’ve played the revenant in enough stress tests and betas that I feel comfortable with it. Leveling is just a chore at this point.

All those max level Revs in the starting instance. That poor boss in there won’t know what hit it. Lol.
ANet may give it to you.
Max level 80 revs in full ascended gear with sigils and runes. Bwahahaha! It will be amusing.
lol, yeah.
I’m more interested in not wasting any exp on leveling when it could go to building masteries, personally.
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon
I decided to do the tomes route.
lol, yeah.

This. On top of that, Revenant will be my new main, and I want to get to trying out all the expansion content.
I usually love the leveling process, but with GW2 it’s a bit different. I felt already “tired” when I had originally started playing and reached ~ 40 with two characters. Now after quite a few years of break, leveling 20 levels more was somehow more fun. So it hugely depends. Guess back then I was too used to WoW’s level speed (which was for me great) and now after a huge break of MMOs in general it feels unique?
So yeah, I’ll try it out normally or at least use the Birthday scroll. I don’t do PvP as I’m in general a terribad player so Tomes are a no-go (I have around three from log-in boni)
I will first use an experience scroll to boost to level 20 and then try to level normally through map completion, but will use tomes if I lose patience lol. I still feel that revenant is lacking skills and some depth, and for most of the time you’re leveling you won’t have Glint… I can see leveling up being a pain honestly.
I’m going to insta 80 and then wander around the core maps getting my hero points.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Same here.
We can enjoy all the contents of PVE world at level 80 too.
Who said we skip the whole world if we tome it up to lv80?
Plus I got like 700 of those tomes to burn right now thanks to PVP…
