Can't play in fullscreen
Hi I am having precisely the exact same problem. Temporarily playing on windowed mode until there is a solution.
The exact same problem here too hope they will fix it cause playing in windowed mode is frustrating :S
Ahh, yeah same here.. sorry I just duplicated this in another thread.
Same thing happens to me, it happened before and i never managed to fix it until i did a massive cleanup of my computer and made two clean re-installs of GW2. I’m using Windows XP and apparently, my computer doesn’t fill the requirement to play GW2, but i’ve played GW2 since release with barely any trouble.
Would love some kind of info on whether this particular problem has a workaround, or a fix coming.
It happens ONLY on Win XP. I wish ANet said something about this. Since the official requirements state the game runs on XP and above, I guess it should be fixed soon :/
Bump. No word from devs means no fix yet. Can we at least get some kind okittennowledgment from anet?
no idea why it said okittennowledgement, it was supposed to say “okittennowledgement”
“okittennowledgement”
ok i give up lol. basically can we hear from the devs saying “we know there’s a problem and we’re working on it”. Or, “we know there’s a problem, and we’re not going to fix it.” either way it would be nice.
I got this response today from my support ticket.
Thank you for bringing this issue to my attention today.
I just wanted to take a moment of your time and let you know that we are aware of this issue with the recent update to Guild Wars 2 and Windows XP and have reported the problem to development and QA. While we do not currently have an ETA for a resolution, it does appear using the launch command -Windowed allows you to play without issue. At this time I can only advise continuing to play in Windowed mode until we have more information to provide. You can find those instructions below:
First, please navigate to your Guild Wars 2 folder. By default, this will be C:\Program Files(x86)\Guild Wars 2.
Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Windowed.”
Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
Edit the “Target” line to include -windowed at the end. Note: Please make sure -windowed is outside of the quotes -- Correctly Formatted Example: " C:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe" -windowed -- Incorrectly Formatted Example: " C:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe -windowed "
Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.
If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try Step 5 again.
Once completed, try starting Guild Wars 2 again by using this new shortcut. If you are able to play once modifying the game to run in windowed mode, you will want to continue to play the game in this mode until a fix has been released. I would suggest keeping an eye on the official forums for further updates regarding this issue.
Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any additional issues, questions or concerns.

At least they know there’s a problem, though it doesn’t look like it’s any closer to getting fixed.
While we do not currently have an ETA for a resolution, it does appear using the launch command -Windowed allows you to play without issue.
Without issues is not true. My screen is really dark because I can not use full screen gama, it’s greyed out. Because I can’t use my native resolution, the text is tiny and hard to read. Prices on the things you are buying and selling on the TP seem almost distorted.
Yes the game is playable but not enjoyable like it was before this patch.
I hear ya, I feel the same way. What he says is helpful however, if you weren’t able to play at all. It would at least get you back online. What bothers me is the lack of priority we seem to be getting. Based on what Ive read in other posts, people seem to think if a person is running XP on their machine that you’re asking for it. I’m planning on upgrading my system within the month, but what if I couldn’t? Hope they get it fixed soon.
Woot! I launched the game today after not playing for awhile. It did it’s normal patching and stuff, and then I started it up. Voila! I can play fullscreen again. Thanks the folks at anet for getting this fixed. Appreciate the work guys and gals.
