Maybe it happened last patch or something.
I want to believe.
How has this gone unnoticed for over a year?
Maybe we should test if our healing skills heals our enemy’s too O.O
Healway guards would die out
Testet with outlaws (potion), can confirm it.
Holy crap this is kind of a big deal!

I wonder how long this bug has been in the game, I wouldn’t even be surprised if this has been present since launch. <3 Anet

Funny you mention that… The necro heal Well of Blood, used to heal EVERYTHING, friend or foe in the AOE, for months, even after it was extensively documented and reported.
If dealing damage sigils work the same way, then Anet is my kind of programmers.
Wow what the kitten
so that’s why I kept dying
Did you confirm if it increases or decreases damage output?
(edited by Chopps.5047)
Did you confirm if it increases or decreases damage?
That it increases damage has been settled for a while.

There’s speculation in this thread that it broke in a recent patch. I’d make zero assumptions when dealing with ANET bugs.

Got a point there. Anet has a reputation of introducing the most f***ed up bugs…

Nevermind wethospu did check that. Sry I’m on mobile atm
Is this a software or a kitten house?

Pvt/cleric is 2012, crit/vit/healpowah axe range is the new meta….
anet, when you fix this, can you make it so a dungeon potion works against every monster in a dungeon?
I want to be surprised, but for some reason I’m not. I wonder if this has been in the game since release.
Wow, just wow. I used to take these for the assassin part of CoF path 2 when things were not working well and I had a feeling I was playing worse or something. Could never put my finger in why…

I hope this is addressed as well, though I have faith it would be eventually since they have continually been solving tens if not hundreds of bugs over the course of patches this year.
Part of me still doesn’t want to believe its true. I have stacks of 250 slaying potions for my beloved CoE lol.

Use Skale venom.

It’s a trap, and you all fell for it.
As long as the slaying potion’s +% damage dealt to enemies works, what’s the big deal?
Why skale venom?
Everybody has been coping with the 10% extra damage taken so far just fine.

I like how this thread is dominated by the more hardcore dungeon crowd, lol.
Anyway to the topic, holy christ. I never tested the damage reduction, any idea if this is recent Weth?
Are we all going to believe this without any proof?
Can you tell us your testing method? I can’t think of a way to test this properly
I don’t really feel like putting any proof when testing it is extremely simple (as some people have already done on this topic). Just use a potion, let a weak enemy hit you 10-20 times and remember/write down highest damage (+ average damage). Replace the potion with something else and get hit as many times as you like (50+) and notice how the damage never gets close.
And also I’m so lovely person that people like to trust me.

It was originally on dungeon forums
Hard to say, I never really paid attention. I guess someone could take a look at old videos and see if the damage is still same. But I would say that it has been like this since the launch because I don’t recall any changes to potions.

True. Did it with n=40 for both with and without potion and the mean damage with potion was 7.95 % higher, what should have been 8 % lower. Pretty clear numbers, if you ask me.

Healway guards would die out
There used to be a ranger drake skill that healed the enemy so it’s happened before.
I tested it myself a little while ago. Tried 4 tests, each about 30 non-critical hits from lv 14 Nightmare Hound. I took the average of each test by typing the numbers in excel and using science!
No pots
I took 176.62 dmg average
Potent Nightmare potion (should be 8% less dmg)
I took 190.97 dmg average
Strong Centaur Potion (should be 6% less damage to centaurs but no change here)
I took 176.11 dmg average
Weak Outlaw Potion (should be 0% less damage to outlaws and no change here)
I took 174.42 dmg average
So the nightmare potions did 8.12% more damage to me when they should have done 8% less damage to me.
The centaur slaying did 0.29% less damage to me (negligible RNG).
Weak outlaw potion did 1.25% less damage to me (odd but maybe just negligible RNG).
I have been using these potions since launch thinking I was a smart player. All this time with them taking 10+ slots in my bags. How sad.
anet, when you fix this, can you make it so a dungeon potion works against every monster in a dungeon?
Oddly enough, apparently loot tables are part of the cause…
At the very least, it was mentioned back during the Molten Facility dungeon that the reason the potions couldn’t work on dredge or charr was because the potions read off a section of the npc code that was changed to a unique ID to give the Molten Alliance, as a whole, the same drop table.
Hard to say, I never really paid attention. I guess someone could take a look at old videos and see if the damage is still same. But I would say that it has been like this since the launch because I don’t recall any changes to potions.
Either it’s a bug or an unannounced change, gg anet.

Sickness, flesh wounds, there is no ailment that can’t be cured by my krait oi… I mean skale venom.
“Oh c’mon, like that’s going to work on me.”
Wow. Just… wow. This is… wow.
Really?
Funny… just a couple days ago I switched from using regular potions of inquest slaying to powerful potions for SEp1. I felt like I was losing more health than usual and then I see this thread!
Maybe this isn’t a bug at all. Maybe this IS intentional.
Hear me out. In Borderlands 1, there is a Class Mod for the Berserker. In said class mod, one of the buffs you get from it that gives you “-39% Bullet Damage Resistance”. Now you may think this REDUCES your resistance to bullets, but it actually decreses the damage bullets cause. People thought it was a bug as well, but they were told that it decreases the damage you take.
Now, totally different game, I get it, but maybe it works as intended, but the wording is just poor?
Restore that which was lost. And all shall be as one.”
Wait, wait…
Have we tested this on Magic Find foods as well? Do they actually make you get less cool loot?

That would be hilarious! I’d guess the bug is probably because there are two parties and the damage stat was just applied wrongly — we’ve seen this happen on several skills (wells healing foes, for example).
Ouch.
i think it should stay this way; just update the item descriptions. it’s an interesting trade-off
