too close to target for flashing blades
here is one . it died just before i managed the screen capture . you can see it in a pile at my feet . i’m on top of a wall defending an outpost in the silverwastes .
here is another . i managed to get the message a few times in a row .
again , in the silverwastes . this time holding the north lane during the vinewrath event .
i’m kinda hard to see , i’m the little guy attacking the husk , you can kinda make out my holographic shattered dragon wings .
i haven’t had any luck trying to reproduce this in a more controlled situation .
i tryed the target golem in the heart of the mists . but i was only able to get the " no valid path to target" message .
funny enough it’s probably a bug too because look where i am when i got the message .
got it again today , after the March 20th update . it’s pretty easy to make it happen in the silverwastes . maybe only because things don’t die as fast there ? maybe because of stationary foes like the slinger here in the photos ? it’s 2 different views of the same slinger giving me the too close message as i try to use flashing blades on it .
i was also in southsun cove today and i didn’t see it happen there at all .

Could you also get some screen shots with the combat log up that could possibly provide additional information as to what else is going on.
I get this sometimes with Infiltrator’s Arrow for thieves too.
i don’t know about the thief skill . thief is the one profession i don’t have .
also , i don’t know that these combat logs really add anything to the investigation , but here they are . 2 different battles in the silverwastes again . 0ne with a vet wolf for a “clear out the mordrem threat” event, and one vs the troll boss under amber during the breach .
both screen caps are taken after the fight from just scrolling back the log .
I have the same issue with my Necro Flesh Warm and all Staff skills
it says Target is to close and I can make a circle just around myself
i got it again today wile at the Tequatl event . i didn’t get any screen caps . i was fighting a tequatal’s finger when i got the error . anyway . it’s not just happening at silverwastes .
i think the foe has to live long enough to use flashing blades a second or 3ed time . once to get into melee range , and the next time it thinks i’m too close .
so it’s really only some top level stuff .
and even tho you should probably start a separate topic for skills other than the guardian skill , flashing blades . i didn’t have any problems with my necromancer .
i found an old staff that i haven’t used since i was still leveling up , and even equipped flesh worm , witch i had unlocked but never used before today.
i didn’t have any problems relating to the topic using any of the skills .
I’ve tested this with all Thief, Mesmer, and Guardian shadow steps/target teleports; since pathing update for those skills they require a minimum distance, even Steal. Which seems the most ironic of all, a thief not picking your pocket because he is too close.
Apparently Anet intends these skills to be used from distance and now they have to be.
in the back of my mind i thought there is always the possibility that this is an intended change to the teleporting . But also , if it is intended to say that i am too close to the target to teleport thats fine if i am already in hand to hand range of my main sword skills sword of wrath and sword arc Range: 150 .
i don’t have a problem losing out on the unnecessary teleportation , tho it was some times handy to have the camera view realigned the way that skill does when it works .
i miss out on the rest of the skills effects , witch is blinding up to 3 nearby foes .
of course blinding doesn’t work on my last example of teq’s finger . but on the mordrem wolf , especially if there is more than one , the blinding effect is a dearly missed element of my defense .
