I have a recurring problem that I really need some help with before deciding to return my motherboard. However, I don’t know if it’s appropriate to post here if it’s general tech rather than specifically GW2. If not, would someone with experience care to talk over PM with me? I could compensate you for your time with some gold.

Thanks

Thanks! I’ll start with my specs:

Windows 10 64b
Intel Core i5-6600k @3.5GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
Ballistix 16G DDR4 Memory
Corsair 750W HX Series (factory reconditioned)
GIGABYTE Z170-HD3P [LGA 1151]
Cool Master Hyper 212 Evo

So I’m encountering a shut down and reboot approximately every 20 minutes while playing the game. Over the past two days, I’ve narrowed the cause down to either the RAM modules, or the memory slots on the board itself by running Memtest86 (producing 60 errors in four passes). The rig I built is only 15 days old, so I took the RAM back to the store and exchanged it assuming this was the culprit. After installing the modules tonight, I’m still encountering the crashes.

From a hardware perspective, I have a bad board. I plan on taking it back pending feedback from here and various forums, however I’m wondering if I’m looking at a software issue instead.

Combing through the event viewer, it appears that seconds before each failure event, I receive the following error:

Based on some feedback and process of elimination, the likely suspect is a failing motherboard, but I’m hoping for some options to avoid deconstructing and fighting over return policies.

My PC will not accept any more BIOS updates, and drivers, temps, etc are in good shape. Anything would help!

Really… That’s the best you can do? A 2 year old post? Dude… The game was perfect last week…. This is a bug in the client from the update… This is new code conflicting with something.

Hope they fix it soon… My wife is really mad… She hasn’t been able to play since hot released on friday.

The client has a bad memory leak atm… You may want to wait a few days as someone in my guild actually had the game keep crashing them to their bios screen today.. Not once, several times. If the pc plays other games well and only restarts on this game… It’s the game.. Not the pc.

As true has mentioned, is it only GW2 that crashes or do your other games also crash.
If it’s only GW2 you might want to repair the game first.
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/28148006-Repairing-the-Game-Client

I had a similar issue after putting in a new vid card(the msi version of your card). But it was happening at random intervals with various games as well as GW2. I swapped out the power supply. I noticed your was reconditioned unit and you may want to check that out if you haven’t done so.

Oh .. i just see you still have 32-Bit OS .. that is the real problem.

A bit weird that a big game like GW2 doesn’t support 32-Bit operating systems, but hmm… If you’re really sure of that, then do you know of any ways to ‘solve’ this without getting myself a new operating system? I don’t have the money to buy myself a new OS atm.
Aren’t there smart ways around it somehow? Because everything works fine apart from GW2. So HoT would become a bit expensive if I’d only buy a new OS just for that.

Still suffering crashes since the Friday (23.10.2015) update.

(4GB ram, GeForce GTX 560 Ti with the latest driver)
I do see folks recommending an upgrade to 64 bit Windows, however my 32-bit W7 was never an issue previously (save for occasional world boss crash). Now, the game crashes within a minute in low populated areas, and won’t even load in capital cities. I’ve reduced graphics to lowest possible, still not a bit of difference.

What’s disappointing is that there was no warning of minimum system requirements changing and that some systems would experience catastrophic breaks, as a result.
Like many with this problem, I won’t be able to upgrade for months as I rely on my pc for work as well as gaming.

Very saddened to be missing Halloween and I’d been looking forward to it for months.

Is there any word at all on patching these OOM errors? :/

Thank you.

I have been playing since GW2 launch with my settings on max with not a single problem ever.

Now with HoT my game crashes roughly every two hours, it seems to happen in highly dense player areas such as Auric Basin, it also happened during Mad King says.

I am also getting some weird graphical bugs, for example my back item Wings of Dwayna randomly disappears sometimes, today my weapon on my back disappeared.

I have played in highly populated areas with not a single problem for years, i was even stable during that big one time Karka event near launch.

Please help?

I’m having same “Texture missing mip chain” crash since HoT release. I’m running 64-bit Win7 with 8GB RAM. These crashes are always preceded by character portrait or character figure in hero panel turning weird blue-teal colors.

If the problem was confined to the game, I wouldn’t get errors when testing the memory, though, correct?

“It’s been about five days since the launch of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™, and it’s been a really exciting time for all of us at ArenaNet and for the game. We’ve had an incredibly smooth launch with very few major game issues, despite the huge surge of players back into Guild Wars 2 to play all of the new content and features of the expansion! This will go down as the smoothest launch we’ve had in the history of the Guild Wars® franchise.”

This bothers me… I see no good ANet post here that shows us some answers, and in the meantime you’re talking about having a smooth launch with barely major issues. Well we’re still here, waiting for this to be fixed. I personally haven’t done any new content yet because of this problem… Still waiting, but not even a forum post saying “we’re looking into it”. Come on ANet… keep up the communication, this is frustrating!

Still waiting for an answer from ANet…

This morning I read:
ANet: “It’s been about five days since the launch of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™, and it’s been a really exciting time for all of us at ArenaNet and for the game. We’ve had an incredibly smooth launch with very few major game issues, despite the huge surge of players back into Guild Wars 2 to play all of the new content and features of the expansion! This will go down as the smoothest launch we’ve had in the history of the Guild Wars® franchise.”

It would be good to know if you’re working on our issues. I’d also like to check out all the cool new content, but right now I can’t do anything. And then it’s very frustrating to read you speak about barely finding major issues. Well… Here is one!!!!!!! Please look into it, and keep up the communication. We want to know if you’re reading all this and trying to find a solution… Just like 3 years ago I feel very left out and ignored by the company.

I did Triple Trouble Wurm on the absolute lowest graphical settings and made it through the entire thing fine. As everyone was standing around chest I started to raise my graphical settings to max one by one from top to bottom. Crashed a few seconds after raising Character Model Limit and Quality. It could have been a buildup of many variables, or entirely a coincidence. Very hard to test the cause of it as it takes time to appear.

Sometimes the error report box appears, but I can still move around in-game behind the box, there is no sound and chat doesn’t work, it will finally crash minutes later.

I was (Still am a bit) getting a lot of crashes, every 10 minutes or so, put graphics down to minimum and it’s somewhat less often now.

Jumping puzzles, love them or hate them, I hate them. Thread killer.

My thoughts exactly. I’m one of those people who was willing to just sit back and hope they’d fix it but that post angered me more than it probably should. If there are so few major issues why hasn’t this been fixed already? Just being able to play the core game again would be a start.

Even if i put the graphics down it still crashes, now its getting worse, 5 seconds into the game, it crashes. Im just looking at my inventory and it crashes. I can’t even play now.

Oh .. i just see you still have 32-Bit OS .. that is the real problem.

It does support 32-Bit windows .. the problem is 32-Bit Windows does not support
the amount of memory that a lot of modern MMOs need.

I had already OOM crashes when i played Age of Conan 8 years ago, and upgraded
from XP to Vista-64 at that time.

Else all you can do is to minimize your graphics settings. And even with 64-Bit
Windows the game runs OOM when people have everything maxed, so there
also should be at least character model limit be on medium.

Also .. if your Windows key is from Microsoft you can download a 64-bit ISO and
install it with your key for free.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

Turn down your settings, specially character model limit. The HoT zones
are bigger than the old zone and i guess for that reason they eat up more memory.

been reading the forums and it seems that most (if not all) of the people getting these crashes are running nvidia video cards.

They really need to fix this… it is not just a 32 bit or 64 bit os problem.. it is a memory leak in the client and seems to be triggering if you run an nvidia card.

FIX THIS PLEASE… asap

been reading a lot of posts and this seems to be a memory leak confined to nvidia graphics cards.

The client has a bad memory leak and it is affecting people using nvidia, and the support team refuses to admit it… they even went so far as to tell my wife to REMOVE ram from her pc and that, that would solve her problem.

she is on a 32 bit client and has been for 3 years and has NEVER had a problem running this game until the HoT update, now she crashes every 5-10 minutes or less.

PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP

For those of you still on the 32bit version of Windows you will need to get the 64bit version this is a known issue with GuildWars2 and has been a recommended fix ever since the game has been released. You don’t have to buy a new OS just download the 64bit version of your Windows version it a free download for 7, 8, and 10, not sure about Vista but if you are running 7 or 8 you can upgrade to 10 for free and I think 10 only come 64bit.

Opinions are like ______ everyone has one I could
put the correct term in but not everyone has kittens

My wife is still getting this OOM leak also.

She is running an nvidia graphics cards also so yes… it seems to be an nvidia conflict with the game… THE GAMES FAULT DUE TO BAD CODING>>> not the video cards themselves.

she contacted support and here is what they told her…

first the referred her to a 2 YEAR OLD POST that tells you to set pre rendered frames to 1.. didnt help.

second was they said that she should REMOVE RAM from her PC… wtf… seriously?

third, they said that because she was running 32 bit windows, she should upgrade her pc and run windows 64 bit and that would solve everything… I call BULL ____ because i have seen tons of post with people running 64 bit that have the same issue. Besides, there is no way for us to upgrade atm due to financial issues.
BUT anywho….

here is where we stand…

she hasnt been able to play more than 5 mins at a time since launch.
she was able to play fine before the HoT patch.

there is a problem with the game client.. not her pc…

shes really mad and is now wanting me to file tickets to get her a refund for the expansion and the core game which she can no longer play..

i am begging her please give them more time for a fix.. but even i am losing faith… it has been almost a week and this is a MAJOR issue and should have been fixed by now.

same OOM that everyone else is getting… lowering graphics settings may buy you a few minutes.. but you are still going to crash..

Seems to be a nvidia conflict.. through the research i have done. almost ALL of the oom errors i have seen… people have nvidia graphics cards… so right there is the first step.. they should be looking into it.. but no word yet

My wife got a reply finally from the support team… that is just.. well..

They referred her to a 2 year old post… told her to remove ram from her system, and to upgrade from 32 to 64 bit OS and to set prerendered frames to 1… nothing helped..

IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE GAME.. not the video card.. she was playing PERFECT before the HoT update last week and now she cant stay on more than 5-10 mins at a time.

KEEP THESE POSTS BUMPED til its fixed!

here is the reply she recieved….

Hello —-—-,
Thanks for getting back to us.
The issue you are having is known as an Out Of Memory Error. While we do have some suggestions for helping players work around this issue, ultimately we need you to understand that this is a limitation of 32-bit Operating Systems and not actually of Guild Wars 2 itself. The main issue here is simply memory limitations inherent in 32-bit Operating Systems.
The problem comes in the form of the additional video memory your graphics card has:
— Display Memory: 2257 MB
— Dedicated Memory: 978 MB
— Shared Memory: 1279 MB
This is where it gets a little complicated, but the short version is that the additional memory can push your total available memory into negative numbers resulting in crashes or simply, “out of memory errors.” Some players have resolved this by upgrading to a 64-bit operating system. Others simply have removed physical RAM from the system to bring the memory totals closer to values intended for that revision of Windows (32-bit). Obviously removing RAM from your PC is not an ideal solution but I wanted to give you all the information we have learned regarding these issues. You can read more about this issue from Microsoft here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605. The important part is listed below:
“For example, if you have a video card that has 256 MB of onboard memory, that memory must be mapped within the first 4 GB of address space. If 4 GB of system memory is already installed, part of that address space must be reserved by the graphics memory mapping. Graphics memory mapping overwrites a part of the system memory. These conditions reduce the total amount of system memory that is available to the operating system.”
One solution presented by players being affected by this is to change the “Maximum pre-rendered frames” in the Nvidia control panel. To do this:
Right-click on your desktop and select “Nvidia Control Panel.”
Select "Manage 3D Settings.”
Scroll down until you find “Maximum pre-rendered frames” and change it from “Use the 3D application settings” to “1.”
Once completed, click “Apply” to save your changes and try Guild Wars 2 again.

I find that very interesting, as truly most Win players that have reported chrashes run a Nvindia card (and these have caused issues in the past too).

Hey Anet, it’s truly your client then, now tell us you are working on it! We love communication! <3

With all the crash posts that are appearing since HoT (both cards as mentiond by some AMD users). I am starting to feel it is a problem on Anets side. There are just too many of them to be a coincidence.

This bit amused me "… ultimately we need you to understand that this is a limitation of 32-bit Operating Systems and not actually of Guild Wars 2 itself. "

Now remind me, did Anet specify at any point that this is a game for 64 bit OS anywhere? Nope. It’s just a poor excuse for lazy programming and testing of their own product before release.

I’ve had this problem for about two years now and across two computers. This would normally happen when switching maps and/or character frequently. However, since HoT came out, the game is almost unplayable, I’m even getting shutdowns in pvp which never used to happen before.
It will be a while before I can upgrade my NVIDIA.

I was playing fine, as normal. Then I logged off to get some food, went to log back on and it said Network Error, possibly due to the firewall.

It did this 3 or 4 times, then let me log on. Then I went to swap characters (still in the log in screen) and its back to either Network Error, Internet Not Available, or Firewall Error.

Well, none of that is a problem – I checked…

Any idea what on earth is going on? Been playing for years and never had this before

Thanks

Hello,

My game refuses to let me log in to the game. I can get to the character select screen, but whenever I try to get into the game itself, my game crashes and gives me the error code (Code=42:4:11:310:101).

Any fixes? I tried to restart the game, restart my PC and restarting my modem/router.

Weird part is, is that I can log in with a character I haven’t played on today yet. Problem for me is, is that I played every “main” character today to unlock their elite spec

I actually came to the forum to try and get an answer to what I thought was my own personal problem. Guess not.

I have attached a screenshot of my issue. I have noticed the error codes can be different also.

Same issue here – it actually started in game when I would just get this error message whenever I tried to WP. Since logging out I haven’t been able to get back.

Just went to change map and it kicked me and can’t get back in either.

Edit: Oh yeh, don’t spam click waypoints, it takes your silver without teleporting you anywhere.
