CoherentUI_Host.exe + Crashing
In the other thread someone discovered that disabling auto proxy detect solved the CoherentUI crash issue.
Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings
Make sure “Automatically detect settings” is UNcheckedThis has solved the issue for several of us on both Windows 8.1 and Windows 7.
I had it unchecked but I had the program ClearThink installed on my computer (the field below “Automatically detect settings” was checked with an adress leading to the program ClearThink). Uninstalling it worked.
Cheers, i had that virus too, it was strange having that in the adress because i had no idea what that was, strange moment there lol once i saw u had the same thing as me i just uinstalled it like you said, the launcher does not crash anymore , thank’s alot for the tip
nope…dont have “clear think”….auto detect unchecked….still the same thing ….same error msg…nothing has changed no matter what I have tried.
The reason why unchecking automatically detect settings is working for some people is because of:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/CoherentUI-Anti-Freeze
In short, it has an issue with proxies.
“Hey guys,
If you are having this issue and crashing after the update we recommend you try the following troubleshooting steps to try to resolve the issue.
First, try disabling any antivirus you have on your system. Sometimes after programs/games are updated, the antivirus program will see them as a threat due to the new files added to the program/game which can cause issues.
If this does not resolve the issue and allow you to download/launch the client you can try moving the game out of the program files folder. If you are not sure how to do this please follow the instructions below.
1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 folder, which by default should be C:\Program Files(x86)\Guild Wars 2.
2. Move this folder to a new location like C:\Games\Guild Wars 2. The location doesn’t matter specifically, as long as it’s outside of Program Files and Program Files(x86).
3. Navigate to this new location and “Right-click” on “GW2.exe” selecting “Create Shortcut.”
4. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode.”
5. “Right-click” on “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode” and select “Properties.”
6. Click the “Compatibility” tab.
7. Checkmark “Run this program as an Administrator.”
8. Click “Ok.”
Once completed, please double click “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode” and try playing Guild Wars 2 again. If this helps resolve your issue, please copy that shortcut and use it to start Guild Wars 2 from now on.
If you are still experiencing issues after performing the above steps, comment on this thread and let us know.”
i did this all but nothing works… i also now have un installed the game and is tryuign to re install it to get the same message coherent UI …
I have win xp sp3. The game folder is not c:/program files/guild wars 2. Unchecking automatically detect setting and i have get coherentui_error. I send to lot of reports to arenanet, but can’t play this game. What is problem now?

Hello everybody, i have unchecked “Automatically detect settings” as mentioned and finally my game is installing back, i will let know if its working overall when it will be installed fully. Thank You
My client downloads bin folder with coherent_ui content, main window shows a text “Initializing…” for about 2 sec, then the launcher window disappears, but GW2 still remains on my task bar. And then nothing happens… At that time the launcher has no network activity (at least my network monitoring SW says that). I have checked my antivirus and firewall settings and everything should be ok. I have tried several suggestions posted on this forum but nothing works for me.
In the other thread someone discovered that disabling auto proxy detect solved the CoherentUI crash issue.
Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings

Works perfectly for me, thank you! I can login without needing to use the -nopatchui workaround I suggested earlier.
It seems I’m having the same problem as most of the above.
I’ve seen these sorts of errors in other programs before, so I checked my antivirus schedule, and it has a record of deleting CoherentUI_Host.exe. The upshot being that:
a) the game won’t load.
b) -repair function doesn’t work
c) downloading the client to start fresh amounts to the same error
d) it won’t even uninstall
Well disabling the antivirus indeed resolved the problem for me.
Now may I ask ArenaNet, why are you trying to put a virus in my computer ?
What anti-virus is it? You’ll need to add an exception for the folder GW2 is located in, the bin subfolder and/or Gw2.exe and CoherentUI_Host.exe specifically, depending on the anti-virus. Don’t just keep it disabled.
Some anti-virus/firewall software are too sensitive and will basically kill any unknown exe that came from another process, flagging it as a potential threat. Other anti-virus/firewalls may block the exe from being started for the same reason, though you’re usually warned first, unless it’s setup to be silent.
Updated OP RESOLUTION
A variation of this method had resolved issues in the past with the old TP, but it appears it helps resolve the issues with the new TP/launcher and crashing. If you are still experiencing the issues with your launcher/patcher and CoherentUI_Host.exe with crashing:
Disable any proxy settings + Uncheck Auto-Detect Settings
- Check your Start Menu > Control Panel > Internet Options > Connection settings and make sure to disable any Proxy Setting that may be enabled there.
Proxy Check/Disable
In your Windows Control Panel via your Start Menu:
- Choose to view as icons instead of as categories in the top right.
- Open Internet Options
- Click on the Connections tab
- At the very bottom click on LAN Settings
- Uncheck/untick the Automatically Detect Settings box
- Make sure the lower Proxy Server boxes are unchecked
NOTE 1
If your “Automatically Detect Settings” checkbox was already unchecked
- Check (enable) that setting and hit ‘Apply’
- Uncheck (disable) that setting and hit ‘Apply’
NOTE 2
If you were previously using the “-nopatchui -email -pw” shortcut command line argument to enter the game, you will need to remove that work around for any other resolutions to be viable.
-old OP-
Immediately upon patching I find a new “bin” folder is created in my GW2 installation folder.
Within this folder are several dlls and a new executable.
(Shouldn’t these files be within the dat file or in the gw2-cache folder and not inside the installation folder?)Immediately upon patching this executable is requesting firewall permission.
The patch is continuing to download properly despite my not permitting this new executable to connect to the net.
I’ve looked it up and see it is an HTML5-based User Interface system.
Why is this new file demanding access to the net while I am trying to patch?
Why should this UI system require access to the net, let alone when I am not in-game?
this worked for me ty
Hi This has been posted before so I take no credit. However no sure I have seen it on this topic. OK for those of us that attempt to download and the launcher goes away after initialising . Change the color settings to 32 true color. Then attempt to relog in to GW2 and hopefully the launcher becomes visible . Hopefully this helps it worked for me . good luck all

Did evertyhing. Lan setting and Change folder. Did nothing. I demand a legendary weapon. Even sweetfx patch. Nuttin.
Could a dev pretty please post an update on the status of this issue.
Untill yesterday my game worked perfectly and today has been a day full of frustration and annoyances. I tried everything that is proposed in this thread, but nothing…
sincerely,
a dissapointed customer
The disable automatic fucntion on proxy functions has finally worked for me, but a quick note for those that didn’t worked :
Make sure to un-check BOTH boxes. The one that says automatic check, AND the box that says “Use script to automatic check”.
After this, Disable your anti-virus, and the game should laucnh just as normal. Thanks for the help btw.
I did everything including the LAN settings and change folder. Even the sweetfx patch. Did nothing. I demand a legendary weapon. Riffle especially.
I’ve tried:
Unchecking the Lan settings
Clearing appdata Gw2 folder
Using -email -password -nopatchui
Using -windowed
Running it as administrator
Disabling my antivirus and firewall
Changing to 32-bit Truecolour
Making a copy of the GW2 folder and running that
Using -prefreset and hiding the ui (ctrl+shift+h) when trying to login
Using my brother’s gw2 copy that works fine on his pc. When I launched it on my pc, it took me to the character select screen and immediately crashed when I tried to enter the world.
Yesterday the -prefreset fix worked after the bug fix patch they did but this morning when I tried to play, nothing works.
Nothing at aaaalll Please fix this Anet.
Edit: I am using Win 7 64 bit Ultimate edition and AMD Radeon HD 6870 graphics card

Good morning. Work on this problem continues. Coherent got back to us last night (they are in a different timezone so they work while we sleep!) with some things to try and so we are working through those now. All of the information y’all are posting is very helpful – thank you.
Same problem here

Nothing works. The client still freezes the moment I open it with the Coherent UI problem not working…

Thankfully, after a many attempts at resolution, this seems to have worked for me. I made the mistake of uninstalling, so many of the suggestions did not apply to me. I still haven’t attempted to access the TP, as I don’t want to mess with things that are working until a permanent solution is found.
I tried Lacey’s solution, without success. My launcher simply freezes and becomes unresponsive without crashing, unfortunately.
The part about moving Guild Wars 2 outside of C:\Program File (x86)\ surprised me however. Would it be too much to ask why such a requirement? It seems to me the install directory should not matter much, unless there is some access right issues going on somewhere.
Quelqu’un peux m’aider en francais svp ??
ArenaNet Studio Technical Director
Windows treats the “c:\program files” and “c:\program files (x86)” directories in special ways that can sometimes cause problems for programs like ours that auto-update.
So do we have to fix it on our own or its gonna fixed by Guild Wars 2 ? Cause im prolly not the only one who’s not rly good in computer and buy game for playing them only. I tried the admin thing, didnt work, the LAN connection, when i apply and i come back its never apply… and for the shortcut with email password and nopatchui, it was working last night but i dont know why its not working anymore. So now i dont know what to do anymore should i just wait for an update or install my game on another computer ?
Thanks for that answer. At the very least we now know you’re also keeping up to date with this thread
I also tried everything above, but it wont help. Coherent is owning me badly:(
Anet help us please. I did everything from this forum but I still can’t log in on PC :’(
I’ve got the same problem at startup. The splash screen hangs showing anything between 1 and 11KB with (0kb/sec) showing.
Tried all the resolutions mentioned in the thread and none appear to work.
When I ran the game yesterday evening, after the patch first came out, all worked fine except I noticed something weird about the password edit box (shows a few asterices but doesn’t auto-log even tho tick box enabled) but since it worked fine when I manually logged in, thought nothing of it.
Strangely enough, when I tried to download the client from guildwars2.com (thought the problem was a corruption and planned to re-install the latest client), when I tried to download it via Firefox, I had a very similar problem in that the download hanged in much the same way. It was downloading from s3.amazonaws.com. Downloads about 7.6KB of 24.9 and stops.
The firm I work for has a website that uses AWS, on a hunch I tried logging onto our website and get a similar problem: sits there with a blank web page saying “transferring data from xxxx.com”. Talking to our dev guys in the States (I’m in the UK), that site is accessible.. in other words, seems to be specific to me (or my PC/Network).
Strange though, that after I install the patch, I’m having problems accessing amazon cloud..
Stranger still, while I was typing up this post, that Splash screen changed and is now showing: “Connection error(s) detected. Retrying ..” but still appears to be hung. Also, that hung download now appears to have completed and is showing as downloaded. Tried to run it and Windows 7 reports that it is not a valid win32 application.
(I have to know! In WvW, do Legendary NPCs drop Legendary loot?)
Day 2 and still can’t log in, its such a shame! Everything worked fine until this update. Any new tips? Got the coherent error also…
Update: 10 September 3:30 PM
The dev team is tracking this down both internally and externally. They currently have a possible fix that is in testing, but we don’t have an ETA for that quite yet.
This issue is a very high priority and quite a few members of the team are focusing on correcting it as soon as possible.
We’re sorry for this inconvenience!

Finally found a solution!
If you have a folder named Vebergreat in the Program files (x86), in this folder you have a file named Pac9064. This is a spyware causing the issue. Just go to the control panel and uninstall vebergreat, then launch the game. It worked for me.
Same thing if you have SmarterPower intead of Vebergreat
Update for me*
I exhausted all the possible fixes except for disabling my antivirus. I did that not long ago and I was able to log on/play and access the TP with no crash. So do consider your antivirus as a possible culprit for the crashes.
We just did a live build. Could you please check and see if the issue is corrected for you?
Any info you can provide, whether the same error message/assertion/log or a different one, would be very useful! (By that I mean, could you please provide it in a new post, so we can track this?)
Hopefully, a whole lot of you are A-OK now! And thanks for your continued patience!

I just launched the game and now after a very short loading icon you put in and can not be reopened
(I apologize for my English xD)
I tried to log in after the patch and this time my launcher didn’t hang.
It took me to character select and them promptly disconnected me when I tried to enter the world.
Error code= 7:11:3:191:101
Edit: When I tried to relaunch the game, the launcher now hangs and stays in the taskbar after the ‘initializing’ screen.

Oh noooo. Well, that info is helpful, so thank you for sharing.

Just to test, I re-enabled my automatic proxy detection and launched gw2 with the latest patch. It hung on the launcher screen. Soon as I disable the auto proxy detect it’s good again.
