Low FPS - [merged]
Are they gonna say same to me that my PC is outdated? Norn, old grown forest, Charr 2nd area, Lion’s Arch, Black Citadel everywhere bad frame rates. What if Intel was 50% slower these days? Would we still have 2 core optimazed CPU/GPU intense DX9 engine? AMD is not bad Intel just is a lot better these days. I’ts not excuse.
It’s not futile at all. I realise you have some issues with the game and you are evidently raging about it, but many of us are still thoroughly enjoying the game and see such a purchase as worth the money.
I realise they have issues at the moment, but the MMO is brand new, there will be issues, you just have to give them time to sort it out and provide them with any information they need. If they don’t respond to your thread, it doesn’t mean they arent looking at it. I made a post in one of the low fps style threads and one of the moderators moved it in to another thread which was more appropriate for it, so it shows that they are actively looking at posts and trying to organise them as such to make it easier for them to solve the problems.
so please, stop ranting and throwing your toys out of the pram because things aren’t how you’d want them and co-operate, it will get you further.
Maybe you should stop being so oversensitive and use common sense.
Logic dictates that if an element was working inside a certain framework and now it isn’t and the framework itself didn’t change, that the corresponding element is where you should start looking for answers.
As for Lucetius and Gareson – search for “GW2 low fps” and you’ll find a ton of tips.
Logic dictates that if it were that simple, it would have broken performance for everyone. It hasn’t. Agree?
For people who are looking for help you’re really not being very cooperative.
Have you tried deleting the GW2 folder in your “My Documents” and then launching the game again?
Refraction, please don’t turn into one of them kittens. :-)
I’m not ranting, unless the cries of the majority of community can be called rants. :-)
I’m enjoying my game for what it is, but I surely won’t just be silent about apparent problems it has and I will point them out. Not disappointed with my purchase at all even in the light of all this FPS fiasco.
And don’t worry about my cooperation, I’ve given ANet a lot of bug reports, spam reports and so on, I’m part of this thing, hopefully it will put your mind at ease. :-)
I’ve started playing yesterday and here’s my experience so far.
System specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bits SP1
Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz
Geforce GTX460 1GB
3 GB RAM
I unparked the cores, I run Game Booster and disabled Avast before entering the game. Evey setting is as the system suggested. Except for reflections that I moved from “none” to “terrain and sky” because the game looks so much better this way at the cost of only 2-4 fps.
I’ve only visited Shaemor and Divinity’s Reach so far and my FPS varies from 20-50, most of the time it’s 30-ish tho.
I don’t think it’s a bad frame rate considering the specs I have, even tho I can play other recent games (Skyrim, Dead Island, Alan Wake, Borderlands) with everything maxed out and constant 60 fps.
It’s far better than what I got back in the BWEs but I think there’s still room for improvement. Also I haven’t touched WvW yet.
Apologies, i did overreact slightly there, I have been seeing a lot of people getting angry about it and got a bit carried away, im glad to see someone such as yourself is providing as much information as possible
However i do realise there are a lot of FPS issues at the moment, the game is very cpu and gpu intensive, understandably to a point as it is a very very pretty MMO. Im sure they will optimize things over time (also hardware will catch up too) and things will improve.
One saving grace may be if they choose to implement DirectX 11. As there is such a huge amount of high quality textures, the texture management in DX11 is much better than DX9 so this will provide a nice little boost in performance. So, fingers crossed on that one!
For people who are looking for help you’re really not being very cooperative.
No I’m not spoon-feeding people with answers that can be found all over the net.
However, I did make a positive step by providing them with a tip of how to search for the answers they need.
Why am I not being applauded for teaching the man how to catch fish instead of giving him the fish I’ll never understand.
It’s not the majority. There are around 2 million people playing this game off and on. How many FPS posts are there spread around the forums still being updates? 500? That’s not a majority.
At least you’re cooperating with support there are far too many that just want a whinge and won’t accept any evidence / advice. I even posted proof of my framerates earlier for someone to say “this isn’t possible, I don’t care, it doesn’t happen for me so you’re lying.”
I am having the same issue, cannot break 50 FPS with this rig:
Amd FX (faildozer ) 8150 4.1GHz
Radeon HD 7870
Sabertooth 990FX
Gskill Ripjaw 1600
Please fix this Anet, its really annoying not being able to play this game at 60 FPS.
Many apologies. Turns out I’d only checked the CPU temps (which were fine), not those of the GPU.
Her GPU back vent was majorly clogged with dust and CPUID showed temps of 106c! (can those be correct?!). I’ve cleaned the dust out and her FPS now goes up to 55fps sometimes, which is great considering the ageing card. However, the card is still getting way too hot over time and the fps is still dropping, albeit much more slowly. Would the overheating have done some permanent damage? Luckily I have a spare 8800GT if all else fails.
Again, apologies for jumping the gun when i hadn’t actually checked the gpu temps (really thought i had). I hope others get their problem sorted soon. Hang on in there..

I’m glad we’re on the happy note again mate! :-)
DX11 would improve performance ? I didn’t look into that direction, so this is new to me. That would be good, but somehow I have this feeling DX11 is a bit further down on the list.
2 things puzzle me:
1, in BWE2 I personally had exceptionally good FPS, which declined substantially later on
2, a good portion of players claim their FPS got better after BWE2
Apparently there’s no middle-ground achievable, whatever ANet did, it helped some while it lowered performance for others.
Yea, those temps are probably correct, and yes if it’s been overheating for a while then it could have done some permanent damage to the card.
It could also be that the card is clogged up with dust in hard to reach places too, that could still be causing issues.
If you have pets in your home its worth looking into dust filters for your PC. They can improve the lifespan of your components drastically.

If I’m right in thinking, BWE2 was still almost completely CPU bound – after that, a good chunk of the load was shifted to the GPU and a lot of optimisation was put in place.
So that that had good processor but poor GPUs (mostly laptop owners) complained that performance went down, while those that had decent CPUs and good GPUs were delighted that performance went up.
Its potentially possible that arena net did some changes which improved interaction with other players or how they were rendered on your machine, or even possibly the artwork was improved or extra caching techniques were put in place to try and increase performance, but caused other machines to suffer.
On the other hand, it could just be a bug that has been introduced, if this is the case then im sure Arenanet will hunt it down and fix it. Stuff like this where it is okay in some cases and not in others is a bit of a pig to diagnose.
What are your framerates like if you use the “low” presets? if its extremely fast id suggest playing with the options and see if any has a dramatic performance increase/decrease.
One thing i noticed yesterday was i have Anistropic Filtering forced to x16 in the nvidia CP, pretty much rendering the “Best Texture Filtering” option completely useless. Disabling this ingame pretty much gives me a free 10fps in Lions Arch
Look, cooperate with support is not only put a happy face.
I seand it diags, i send it gameadvisor, i sendit the result of Heaven Benchmark with highest graphic options, i have all my drivers update,.
What suggest what i can do to be more cooperative ?
i cant cooperate more with support, now is time that they answer.
Heaven Bencmark with highest graphic options in DirectX9

I wait patiently 4 days when the issue start after the patch update, no a issue with my drivers, hardware etc., the only thing that change in my computer is the GW2 version… and you know what is the answer of support in this forum by the past days ?
Nothing
We havent a little info about the issue of the last patch, in the “low fps post”
How are we coopearte with support if they dont cooperate with us ? How are we wait patiently when they dont give us info about the issue ? How i know that they are working on it or simple let it be when they just simple ignore the user fps post ?
If they take time put a solution say it to make the commuinity relax a little, not ignore the issue, and you know, i worked in Dell tech support, and i know how work a tech support, and when are dont give a answer for days or a update of the issue normally mean a “bad thing”, and that is why im worried.

That’s strange, I have exactly that, decent CPU and a 560GTX and my performance went down. The card still eats newest games for breakfast, I don’t have one bit to complain about its performance – outside GW2…
Also, does GW2 utilize all cores ?
It depends though. I don’t think your card is great at handling detailed textures and AA – so as that was shifted to the GPU it would have had a big impact on your performance. That comes down to the memory bandwidth on your GPU more than anything else.
There’s an article on TomsHardware relating to that actually, it looks like 3 to 4 cores is the “sweet spot” for core usage on the game. Seems to be threaded very well
Here you go if you want to take a look, they show the impact of CPU’s and GPU’s

The standard fan profile on the 8800 and 9800 was rubbish. Go to nvidia control panel and ramp those fans to the point just below offensive (70-100%). 105 degrees is the max safe temp on those cards. You should no longer see temps above 80 degrees.
Well, just making some feedback, after the new patch, now im running at 10 FPS while i was at 11 FPS yesterday before the patch. And before asking me about my rig, i was running GW 2 at 40-50 fps at high settings before all of this, and those 10 FPS are at minimun graphics. So well, I still have hope and just hanging in there.
Delete local.dat from your my documents and try launching the game again. Reapply auto-detect settings.

Already did that and nothing. I have tried everything, cleaning video card, registry clean, deleting local.dat, deleting temp, defrag hard drive, I am 100% sure its a problem of the game and not my PC.
I just ran Heaven Benchmark as someone said ArenaNet wanted them to run it

Your CPU will struggle with this game, no doubt. It’s quite old. That could be bottlenecking your GPU quite badly.
If it was the game everyone with your card and CPU would have the same issue. Considering that there aren’t tens of thousands of posts saying so, it must be something else.
I’m not much of an expert in tech stuff, but I know if a game is running at 50 FPS one day, and in the next day there is a patch, then my framerate drops to 11 FPS (only in-game, in the character selection its fine), the problem must be in the game, and more specific, the patch. Now, you are correct that this is not happening to everyone with my settings, but its also not happening to me alone. This is the first time I see this in a game, so I have no idea what could it be. Also, thanks for the replies.
Checking in with FPS issues as well. Everything was perfect at release with 100+ fps, within last couple weeks this drops to a steady 30-50 fps with spikes all the way down to 5 fps (mainly it seems when loading distant textures or open/close map). These are all with every setting maxed.
System Specs:
Intel core i7 3930k 3.2GHz 6 core
32Gb DDR3 quad core memory
2 EVGA GTX 680 O.C. in SLI
ASUS Sabretooth X79 chipset mobo
(as you can see my system is way overkill for GW2 and I should not be having these issues. I also have no problems with anything else so this IS game related ANet.)
If it was the game everyone with your card and CPU would have the same issue. Considering that there aren’t tens of thousands of posts saying so, it must be something else.
Number of posts doesn’t prove anything. People see there are others posting about their issue and therefore do not feel the need to post themselves.

Exactly. It’s not rocket science, it’s elementary logic.

Also yes, I forgot to mention that point, I have a friend that is having the same issues as me for example, but he doesn’t feel like posting it, instead, he’s just waiting for a patch to fix it.
Zaxan: Is it correct to assume that suddenly, coinciding with ANet’s patches, bad karma mental waves spread across the globe, damaging people’s hardware, downclocking GPUs, covering mobos with dust and corrupting video drivers ? :-)
Come on mate, just admit it already. :-)

I just want to add that this seems to be your standard reply to anything suggesting/pointing at problems within the Anet software itself. I have now scrolled through these forums, and imagine this for a second; How many of those 2 millions will ever enter the forums? How many with similar cards HAVE actually posted on the forums? Look man, take a look at the 2 first pages on tech support, how many of these topics are related to software issues, game not running as it should/used to? THAT should give a clear indication SOMETHINGS wrong man. Whats typical is this; The 6 series of Nvidia, doesnt work with Anets software. No matter how much you twink and tweedle, theres a problem exactly there. Theres ALSO a problem with some of the other cards. Might/might not be related. But, there IS a problem, and I have never in my 14 years of MMOgaming NOT found a clear link between the tec forums being flooded with problem reports, to there being a problem somewhere within the software. I just wish the Anet reps would stick their heads out and suggest they know about this issue, that theyre working on it, so we dont have to sweap through all these meaningless and futile discussions between the normal average gamers and the ones who think unless you have a 4000 dollar pc, you CANT play an MMO, because this is NOT going the way Anet would like it to go, when they advertize the game to the normal gamer.
Its your graphic card. Anets software doesnt work with the 6 series.

just saying

throw in a box of chocolates and we got a deal lol
Hey all,
For those of you that tired to use the -perfdebug command last night, can you confirm that the .dat file that should be found in the profiles folder is not there for me please.
Confirmed, there is no .dat file in (My Documents)\Guild Wars 2 or any sub folders after following the instructions multiple times.
Perhaps these command line switches only worked on the debug executable or ArenaNet’s own version?
Well I reformatted Windows 7 and reinstalled Guild Wars 2 and it actually fixed my problem. I don’t know if it will stay stable but we shall see.
I think people have misunderstood my post. Some willfully, some not. I could have been clearer too.
If it was only a fault of the game, it would be happening to everyone.
So it’s likely a combination of the patch and some people’s system that is causing the issue.
Then you haven’t been reading close enough. I’ve posted in dozens of thread offering help and advice. None of which has been “buy a new computer.”
And the entire day? You’re getting me confused with someone else.
After today’s small update, my FPS have improved slightly, from 10-15 now it’s around 30, with low graphics of course.I want to believe that they are working on the issue..
Over double FPS is a pretty big improvement! :P
Well yesterday it was hell, today’s kind of playable.
Still baffled by the number of people who respond to low FPS threads as follows…
1. it’s your system
2.the game is CPU dependent
Please PAY ATTENTION….
Many of us facing FPS drops ran the game FINE until about 4-5 days ago and then it all went to hell. If our system ran the game perfectly before…doesn’t it stand the reason that system specs are not the issue?
System specs definitely not. Something else with your system could easily be the case because, again, if it was only the update it would happen to everyone.
I’m not blaming just your system or just the game. It’s a combination.

Hello!
When I cap the FPS at 60 FPS the game gets capped at 50 FPS.
Im running:
Win 7 64 bit Ultimate.
Gigabyte z77 mobo, i5-2500k 4.2GHz
16GB RAM
GTX 285, latest driver from Nvidia (306,23 driver)
I have a friend that has a system with 560TI and he also has the same issue with fps lock at 50 instead of 60
Had this to a few times. Unselect Vsycn ingame also set limiter ingame to “Unlimited”. Exit GW2 completely. Then go back into the game & check “Vsync enabled” ingame. Unless your rocking a 120hz screen, any more than 60fps on a 60hz screen you’ll get tearing/choppyness.
Also double check your fps are not being capped in Nv control panel.

Is your refresh rate set to 50hz?
To check, right click on the desktop, choose “Screen Resolution”, select “Advanced settings”, navigate to the “Monitor” tab, and your refresh rate is listed under “Screen refresh rate”.
