CoherentUI_Host.exe + Crashing
I had a similar crash today – I found the following fixed it for me (on Windows 7 64-bit):
1. Create a new shortcut to the GW2.exe executable
2. Right click the shortcut and click “Properties”, then click the “Shortcut” tab at the top
3. At the end of the “Target” box (after the existing text and after the closing speech mark) add the following, replacing the <> bits with the appropriate text:
-email <your account email address> -password <your password> -nopatchui
4. Click Apply, OK, then double click the shortcut to launch GW2
For me this seemed to skip whatever part of the launcher screen was crashing, hope it works!
Edit: Once you’re in, don’t open the trading post, or you will crash! If you don’t open it you should be fine

A friend of mine has fixed this issue by connecting through another network thanks to a VPN. It may not be a fix available to everyone, but it may throw some light for the developers in order to build a stable solution.
Still haven’t got any feed back on this error after two hours of posting.
There has been multiple feedbacks. If you looked back in the thread 18min from your post you will see the Gaile Gray said several developers were looking into it at that moment. Give them a chance to actually come up with a solution.

Thanks for the tip! I would have liked to try this, but I ended up uninstalling the game, so now I get this error when running the GW2.setup. As soon as it gets passed the gw2.setup phase; and initiates the client, it crashes instantly.

Edit: Maybe I spoke too soon, I just had an appcrash in-game. At least it got past the login…
This got me past the stuck launcher, but the screen remains black. I can see the game’s cursor and move it but nothing else. I do not have SweetFX installed anymore so it can’t be that.
Thanks for this solution though, it’s still a tiny step forward! (Also win7 64-bit)
The log of the game says this, dunno if it’s helpful:
full path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\
redirecting CreateDevice
initialising shader environment
redirecting device->Reset
initialising shader environment
redirecting device->Reset
initialising shader environment
redirecting device->Reset
initialising shader environment
redirecting device->Reset
initialising shader environment
Trying from a different path than program files gives the same result. /clientport 80 or not does not matter either, still gives the same result. Will try now on my win8 laptop.

Tried the recommended steps, did nothing. My game loads up fine, but when i select character and loading into map starts, it crashes immediatly when the loading is over…
Made a support ticket about this, but also wanted to let the community check up on this also.
Digital signed files of CoherentUI_Host.exe and CoherentUI.dll can’t be verified, can be 1 byte or so that is wrong to make the signed file show up as not correct signed.
Easy to check, goto the folder where the GW2 is installed and into the new folder ..\bin\ and right click CoherentUI_Host.exe -> Properties -> Digital Signatures -> click on “Coherent Labs” -> then button [Details]
and you see “The certificate in the signature cannot be verified.” Ok, so this can have 3 reason:
1. Digital Signatures is messed up, double check Anet!
2. File got corrupted somehow, thing is i have checked with other people and they have 100% exact same MD5 or SHA1 checksum so that means we downloaded the expect same wrong file from Anet, if Anet insist that the file is correct, Well then the corrupted file is at Anet or Coherent Labs, easy for Anet, just re-download the files from them again check MD5/SHA-1/Digital signatures
3. Anet dev’s SSD/HDD made a error :‘( can happen to allot of dev’s, but in this type of company ill guess they run there system in raid mirror setup if any of the SSD/HDD brakes there is one of them that is not, unless all brake lose :|
Soo if there is a problem its when someone downloaded the files from Coherent Labs
Have made a gw2.exe -repair and it found 0 errors, checked and in VerifyResults.log

Suggested shortcut command line solution works for me.
I encountered launcher crashing without error message. Anet’s solutions did not help. Adding the command lines takes me to the game which works otherwise, but not for the new functionalities or Black Lion Tradepost / Gemstore.
I use Windows 8.

Hey man, just a question. I also use windows 8 but when I get in my “shortcut” bar I don’t see any command lines? Do I have to write it behind “target” link? How do I found those?
Cmon Anet, fix this please
Yes, you hit the line after Target and write there. Example of the whole line:
Target: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -email gwexampleuser@gwar.com -password gwuser1 -nopatchui

Hi all,
Thanks for your patience while we try to figure this one out.
One hypothesis suggested by some of the posts above is that CoherentUI_Host.exe is not shutting down properly. (The new launcher, which looks just like the old launcher, uses a Web browser called Coherent.)
If you’re stuck, please bring up the task manager and see if CoherentUI_Host.exe is running (it will be under the processes tab, not the applications tab); if it is, kill it and try running Guild Wars 2 again. Most likely you will be able to get into the game one time and then the next time it will fail.
Alternatively, and I’m almost ashamed to suggest this: reboot Windows and try playing Guild Wars 2. If the problem is that CoherentUI_Host.exe is not shutting down properly, you will probably be able to play one time.
Let us know if any of this works for you, and especially please let us know if you see that CoherentUI_Host.exe is running when Guild Wars 2 is not.
help pls tried all sugestions none worked
Should I go left where nothing is right,
or right where nothing is left?

Hey man, thx for the answer,
I just tried that out and I got past the launcher!
Now I just have to figure out how to get past the blackscreen!

Hey guys,
If you are having this issue and crashing after the update we recommend you try the following troubleshooting steps to try to resolve the issue.
First, try disabling any antivirus you have on your system. Sometimes after programs/games are updated, the antivirus program will see them as a threat due to the new files added to the program/game which can cause issues.
If this does not resolve the issue and allow you to download/launch the client you can try moving the game out of the program files folder. If you are not sure how to do this please follow the instructions below.
1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 folder, which by default should be C:\Program Files(x86)\Guild Wars 2.
2. Move this folder to a new location like C:\Games\Guild Wars 2. The location doesn’t matter specifically, as long as it’s outside of Program Files and Program Files(x86).
3. Navigate to this new location and “Right-click” on “GW2.exe” selecting “Create Shortcut.”
4. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode.”
5. “Right-click” on “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode” and select “Properties.”
6. Click the “Compatibility” tab.
7. Checkmark “Run this program as an Administrator.”
8. Click “Ok.”
Once completed, please double click “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode” and try playing Guild Wars 2 again. If this helps resolve your issue, please copy that shortcut and use it to start Guild Wars 2 from now on.
If you are still experiencing issues after performing the above steps, comment on this thread and let us know.
My game client will not even start. I tried this and it changed nothing, it still won’t start…

Please look into the suggestion that CoherentUI’s Digital Signature is not verified possibly due to a missing or corrupted file. I looked into my CoherentUI and noticed that this was the case (digital signature unverified).

I cant even install the game when I had problems I went to do a fresh install and nothing is happening at all I click on install guild wars 2 and not a thing happens
The exact same problem is happening on both my PC’s, so i can say its not on my/our end.
It would be nice to get a quick fix considering most of us are wanting to play right now…
Computer #1: Trying to run installer. No instances of Coherent are running regardless of installer state.
Computer #2: Game installed. Running the launcher causes 2 instances of Coherent to start and immediately disappear. No instances running when gw2 launcher is killed.
admin thingy doesnt work for me
Should I go left where nothing is right,

Tried this but could not find the CoherentUI_Host.exe in the Task Manager. However I rebooted the PC and now it seems to work and the client started and it’s downloading the patch. Let’s hope it works for good…
Shortcut thing worked for me too thanks!
Computer #1: Trying to run installer. No instances of Coherent are running regardless of installer state.
Computer #2: Game installed. Running the launcher causes 2 instances of Coherent to start and immediately disappear. No instances running when gw2 launcher is killed.
The second part is exactly what’s happening to me as well. Running on Win7 68bit.
Coherent isn’t running without guild wars here either.
I don’t see Coherent running with the launcher up or off. Though, My problem is that I don’t see the Log In button. Not sure if it applies to me. But moving the Gw2 folder and creating a shortcut didn’t work for me either, nor did restarting my PC. I just wanna uninstall the game and re-do it but I’m worried now since people can’t even install the game.
FYI it’s happening on the Mac Beta Client too, in case that gives the developers a clue where to look since it’s happening on both clients.
It works for me again, nothing special changed for it.
ok now it crashed again when i opened TP.. cant go back in
im updating right now… just restarted my PC and it sorted itself out
Should I go left where nothing is right,
or right where nothing is left?
Tryed everything above nothing works
(edited by RedmoonCRO.7032)
Launcher/UI freezing (not a error-message crash):
The UI freezes after accessing an IP, which I’ve discovered is my ISP’s WPAD. CoherentUI seems to download the information twice, then give up, meanwhile the UI is frozen and unresponsive. Looking at a working sample, this happens when CoherentUI would normally access config.txt from s3.amazonaws.com.
The WPAD response was a simple return “DIRECT” (FindProxyForURL).
By blocking the WPAD IP, I can access the launcher to start the game, but CoherentUI cannot load anything because it will always attempt to access it first. As a workaround, I’m using Fiddler as a proxy to bypass it.
(edited by Healix.5819)
Yeah tried everything and more, nothing is working, just keeps saying Coherent_UI has stopped working, and then patcher freezes.
Thanks for the update, you guys just made my Sound Blaster Z disabled in the sound menu. Now it just says default device, it was fine yesterday before the update so it’s not me. So now when will this issue be fixed? It’s not creative’s problem. Also you just ruined my sweetFX settings now it’s all blurry great more work to do now to get it the way I had it.

So this worked for me, but.. not being able to use the tp or anything in that window is really quite annoying, so I’ll just wait.
I also have this problem and have tried the suggested solution (though it should be noted that my GW2 was not installed in program files, so I just moved it somewhere else from where I did have it installed). The suggested steps didn’t seem to have any effect.

See this? Yeah, this is what happened after several attempts at trying to reinstall the game. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling after my client locked up after downloading the patch. I can’t even reinstall right now.
Stuck at this non-responsive client.
My launcher won’t even show up lol. It says the program is running, but there’s nothing there.
Same crash error here :c
I’ve tried the troubleshoot, but nothing has worked. So yea, same situation as everyone who’s posted so far.
I just tried to update the Guild wars 2 Client on My other PC. The game was severely outdated so, it should have gone on for some time but it stopped updating after 30 seconds. The Log in is whited out and User/Pass box are empty. Same problem as my main desktop. Both are Windows 8 64×. No fire walls or protection programs on my PC to block anything.

That has worked for me as well, thank-you for the tip. Windows 7 64bit as well, running on a MacBook Pro through Bootcamp.
I added those lines to my existing shortcut, so now is shows:
“C:\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -mapLoadInfo -email*****@gmail.com -password******* -nopatchui
It works fine while I still have my loading screen info/timer on. Make sure to have spaces between each part you add.
Good luck!
So, I tried your suggested fix. it worked for about 30 seconds downloaded some of the patch then coherent ui crashed again. now im back to square one it wont even start anymore.

I’m just relogging for a new patch that came out ~1min ago, perhaps give it another shot now?

It started updating it for me then froze the client and stuck on 3% lol
mine made it to 20% after several restarts, but then froze and is now stuck on a log in screen I cant use.
