Even that you are camping greatsword for 90% of the fight. Tired of only using greatsword for any half decent warrior build for the last 3 years.
You’re in luck. Right in the meta for dungeons. http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Dragonhunter_-_GS/LB
With the new legendary axe looking beautiful I was hoping to run axe and possibly mace as an offhand for dungeons/fractals. The problem is I can’t think of a build that wont severely kitten the warrior in this environment. Any help making a build would be great.
Warrior would like to have a word with you. At least your specialization is moderately original. Guardian traits don’t even synergies with the core traits at all. Just be happy you got something that works.
So there is no build that makes sword useful? I was thinking full sinister meditation. Sword/torch.
kitten I just really want to make sword work for PVE. Love the way Jormag’s breath look on guardian. Any help making a build would be greatly appreciated.

Ok so if I wanted to go sinister I should use sword/ torch?
Mace is superior to sword now for PvE content. Sword is just too much of a burden to use against enemies you won’t need the teleport for.
Doesn’t the sword blind? Isn’t that useful?
With the fixing of guardian shield is sword/shield a viable option for dungeons now? I was thinking of running radiance/valor/virtues in full Sinister gear.
Guardian is ok class, it needs more skill to be competitive (not talking about burn guard).
Dragonhunter is also good but needs few stuff to ge very good. I got used to it now and I don’t know how I will go back to regular guard. Bow is real refreshing to our class. Gameplay is totally different, its like ranger but little squishier. After 3 years of waiting for longbow I can’t get enough of it
p.s. traps are bad.
Nobody wanted to “be like a ranger” If we did we would have just rolled a freaken ranger. Every other class gets their own unique style and we get this kitten ranger love child with a name that doesn’t even fit the kittening class. Like dragon hunter? Really that’s the best you could do Anet? Here’s a few off the top of my head vanguard, warden, and sentinel.

The dev in charge of the DH doesn’t know anything about guardians.
When I think of guardians I imagine them to be a heavy armored magical class. With spells of protection and boons to boot.
How it got turned into an archer with traps makes me feel confused.
Bow and arrow play can be magical (I like to think of the light arrows from Legend of Zelda xD) but the way they play out for DH takes it far from what I feel like it started out as. We aren’t given any more ways to protect our allies (besides 1 trap . . .) and it doesn’t feel like a Guard anymore.
DH doesn’t add anything to Guard to make me feel like it was expanded on but more taken away from.
Just my opinion really. But as I keep saying everywhere I’m a giant salt cube since we lost our tomes. That was the start of Guardian becoming less of what I thought it was intended and into something it wasn’t meant to be.
And people can say it all day. “We’re in a good place”. But it’s also drab, boring, and lost that special something for a lot of players I know.
I 100% agree. It doesn’t feel like a stalwart defender like we all imagined the class to be like on the day of release. Its turning into some weird pseudo monk ranger thing. Every other classes specialization is an extension of who they are. druid and acrobat being the biggest reach. I’m just confused and sad. The class that was once played with great praise is being replaced by everyone else.
Yeah the DH has an identity crises. It isn’t conditions, power or support. I think with traps they were trying to go for utility/control but even that fails miserably compared to any other cc build for any other profession. I am more well equipped for those things with scepter/focus and 5 signets completely untraited than I am with traps and bow.

If anyone has ever played Monster Hunter, you’ll see the connection.
Also, don’t speak for me, especially when you’re so blatantly wrong.
This isn’t monster hunter. And he isn’t wrong. There is a consensus in the community that it simply does not fit the class. There will not be a single DH build that will replace current guardian builds in any meta. You could argue that bow had some niche usages but is not optimal in any situation. Even at kiting instances id prefer getting mobility from shouts and using a scepter/focus.
I know its mostly wishful thinking being this close to release but if we all made a consensus on what we want maybe there is hope.
I just got back into the game and decided to check out the forum for my favorite profession only to read some rather depressing news regarding dragon hunter. With the consensus being that there is no synergy with previous abilities and traps being useless I got thinking about abilities that I’d like to see replacing the traps. Do you folks think the specialization would be saved if they replaced the traps with something similar to necromancers wells?

Commando: Dagger mainhand pistol off hand. Single target burst weapons. Maybe even throw in one stealth ability.
Hi there, I’m going to be running with 3+ other people on my guardian and i’m looking for some help figuring out a build that will mesh well in a small roaming group scenario. Any info will be appreciated. I currently am running a zerker meditation build but it lacks sustain in fights larger than 2v2
You have know idea how much I want to use shield in my medizerk build. Currently running sword/focus scepter/torch. I have the mad moon skin sitting in my bank being completely unused. It would just hinder my builds capabilities so much to do so.
Any insight would be great.
What would you do to change it? I just want sustain in a fight more than anything. I find that in 2v2+ that when my brother blinks away or something I get focused on by the group and full zerker will not help with that. I guess in my eyes “support” meant applying pressure allowing my brother to chain together his massive burst. I’m also open to changing my weapons just no swords. I really dislike the feel of 1h sword. Thanks for your reply.
First off this is for small group roaming in WvW 2-10
Ok so back from a 1 1/2 year break. Just got my Guardian to 80 yesterday and i am in need of some help designing a build.
Heres my build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQJARWlsApcotDxaI8DNR8AVZAaAmJ5/X/jjkDA-TVCBwA8U3JnKBKV+J5SAMd/BAPBgU6CSY+biSQSBonyI-w
I tried Medzerk build but it wasn’t for me. I’d prefer to be more tanky. The reason I went more defensive is that for the vast majority of the time I will be running with my brother who is rolling a shatter mesmer build that outside of a 1v1 scenario will require some support.
My intentions were to stick with the tried and true meditations while being more of a bunker but also being able to apply decent pressure as you can tell from the 2.3k power and 50% crit chance.
Any recomentations or tweeking would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all your help.
alright well thank you for all your input. (everyone) I appreciate it. Was worried that axe/shield would not be a viable WvW set up due to its back heavy auto attack chain.
This will more likely be for roaming/small groups as I already have a elementalist deticated to zergs
(edited by Adam.3716)
Both sound interesting. I’m assuming u want to stun with shield to get that 50% crit bonus and then use your burst skill?
I also want to be more damage based as opposed to supportive if that helps at all.
TY for a quick response
i’ll be patiently waiting
Hi there, I am currently in the process of leveling a warrior for almost solely WvW. I love the Axe/ Shield aesthetics on a warrior and so i took my main characters legendary efforts and made a frost fang just for my warrior. I also own several expensive shields and want to put them to good use. …..SO my request of the community is that you guys/gals could so graciously help me make a WvW build focusing around the axe and shield as the primary weapon set. these are the only requirements I need to be fulfilled. Thank you for your time and help. Any input will be strongly appreciated
My Sylvari guardian. People always ask what dye the red is but its the Pheonix red Sylvari skin.
ok ill give it a try. thanks for all your useful info. i appreciate it
im just looking for a more fun class to play(iv played guardian mesmer thief necro and warrior to 80)
So if one were to want to focus on AoE DPS you would op out for Elementalist?
Hi there, like the title says i really want to play an Engineer but I am constantly hearing bad things about it. I generally want to focus on PVE with the occasional WvW zerging with guild. Can i get the Wonderful GW2 community to weigh in with some detail on what i can expect with this class please
alright well thanks for all the helpful info guys. Im going to try out ELE and Engineer. i wanted to focus on AoE damage and the grenades sound promising.
and one last question.(u guys are great at replying fast)if Ele doesnt work for me would u guys say ranger or engineer
and thanks for the quick reply btw
so would u recomend going a different weapon type then?
Hi there. I have been playing gw2 for about 5 months now and have 4 level 80s (guardian, warrior, thief and Necromancer) the problem is im really bored with these characters. I’m now trying to decide between elementalist, ranger and Engineer for my next character and to become my main. Elementalist is the front runner for this but the problem is that I am worried that it will be to difficult for me. (I plan on using staff the most). Im not the greatest with micro-management and hear this is one of if not the hardest class to play effectively. Please help me out. Is it really that hard as everyone says it is. (I primarily will do PvE and occasional WvW but in a guild zerg)
Pretty much if thief is good in dungeons then ill roll one but if its not then ill suck it up and play a ranger
pretty much if thief is decent in dungeons then ill play one but if it isnt then ill suck it up and play a ranger.
Im stuck between these 2 as my alt. I want to be decent in PVE but still be able to play well in WvW. please help.
and how are thief and ranger in Dungeons?
I keep reading that in group scenarios the rangers pets often become a liability. is this true?
Hi there, so like the title says i’m trying to find a medium armor class.
Namely one that will help in group events such as WvW (zerg) and various dungeons. Thanks for the help.
