Me and my friend play a lot of games together and his very old PC can barely play any modern game on medium gfx while mine can hit 90 FPS on Max…

I have a gtx 970 SC with intel i5 @ 4.2 and 16 gig ram 2400mhz.
He has a 670 and very old AMD cpu of some sorts.

We just did shatt both on high preset and i was on 17 fps and him 40, the only time i can play without fps lagg is when i have char mod amount and quality both set to minimum, yet him on high gets 35-45? really? what’s the point of buying a good PC is it’s worse in GW2 than a old thing…

I am not a casual, but I find your comment elitist and ignorant. Also, casual doesn’t mean unskilled. I have seen plenty people calling themselves pro or experienced but were total failures. Quite a lot of them are actually.

I for one think casuals should be able to get most achievements, especially the story ones. T4 gets ridiculously hard, especially for anything larger than a duo. If T4 was required for the achievement and generally doable, but there was a 5th tier that didn’t reward any points, just slightly better loot… In this case the “casuals” would get the achievement and the “pros” could go on for bragging rights.

But how many “pros” would actually be able to make it when the encounter is working as intended? I’m pretty sure a whole lot of them would lose their bragging rights. Also, what makes it so painful for you to not mind others getting the achievements? It wouldn’t hurt your progress in any way. A high AP score doesn’t mean anything, you know that, right? It doesn’t measure skill in any way. The most it shows is time spent, and even that can be wonky if one focuses on just one or two aspects of the game.

And if this game is too casual… why are you still here? It is obviously the wrong game for you. Nobody at all will miss you. Go play a proper hardcore MMO, like EVE. But… the only reason you don’t is because you’ll be the bottom dog, rather than the top dog. Kinda sad, prefering to be king of the casuals rather than playing the game which suits you.

I’m 23 actually and i was not flaming, and tbh ive prob played games 10x more than you have in your entire life. Ive played ultima, mortal online, darkfall and eve online so dont think this game is for elitest because as the other guy said this is broken content that should be killed not avoided.

Personally, I believe most Gem Store items should be Account Unlocks and always should have been. And with Achievement Skins now being presented to us as account unlocks of unlimited supply for withdrawal, it seems even less sensible for Gem Store skins to not also take on this behavior.

Obviously not all gem store purchases should be infinite supply, but any armor/weapon skins, towns clothes, or specialty items like flutes should be unlocked for your account. Perhaps the gem store skin/item unlocks could be added into the Achievements Account Unlocks area just as the Achievement Skin unlocks are, or even to the Hall of Monuments Account Heritage Unlock Vendor.

Indeed, when they do things like this it seems to me shady and like they almost want us to accidentally delete our items so we have to rebuy them again at high prices

I had a word with support about this and they told me to post what i said here so…

I am shocked to see that if we accidentally delete e.g. a pet or flute or horn or clothing from our bank or bag then not only can we not reclaim this automatically via the shop but the gms wont replace it making us loose our £8.50+ items we payed good money for.

As we all know the cluster bags can become over time ect this is worrying when i carry something important on me, so im asking the devs here to give the option to reclaim items we have bought on our account or at least restore them like any other good game would, thanks.

Really… i play 16 hours a day lol, every day im hardly casual.

The event does not have any logical approach or system in place apart from tying to stealth to de agro making class specific roles here OP or UP.

Just adding… do not compare the Guardian to the Warrior Priest from Warhammer. That class was so overpowered compared to its counterparts. I know you played other healer types so I am not judging you for enjoying that play style. But Never try to use an OP class in another game to show why a class that plays differently in a different game is not up to snuff.

Guardian is not a healer. Even the Altruistic guardian build (which I run) would be the equivalent to an OFF healer in other MMOs. People in GW2 are responcible for their own staying power, even the healer builds are there just just supplement those .

Warrior priest were not that OP tbh and diciple of khain was far more dps than a warpriest.

Look at it this way, you have boons that offer unique mechanics to combat, and skills to prevent/absorb damage. Even your elite skill (defensive book) has a raw heal (number 5).
There is a very noticable difference when you run a dungeon with a support/healing guardian and when there isnt one present. You wont see the big flashy numbers, but all these small feats make up for something big. Just look at all the defensive and supportive tools you have, none of the other classes (with all the high stats you point out to miss out on) cannot offer this.

buy every class in this game nearly has a support role from warriors giving 15% crit dmg banners to rangers butting down healing spirits and wells or ele water, and our skills seem to have such a long cooldown that i dont feel it justify such a big dmg drop for a 40-50 second 2k heal or a 90 second cd shield that could jsut block 1 auto attack

The warrior priest in warhammer online was an amazing class to, ive never played a healer as fun as that was especially in pvp.

I’ll have to try some other builds, hell i may just go dps guardian in berserker gear lol seems to be what people are doing… that or hammer protection spam

So i just dinged 80 and decided i wanted to become a healing guardian and yes yes i know arena net butchered healing in this game but i thought a guardian with full healing gear would be decent… but after running a dungeon i realized its so weak loosing 50% crit chance and crit dmg for a pi pool of healing that only helps on trash mobs is rather frustrating.

Its a real shame because i played a monk in gw1, paladin in wow, cleric in rift, healer in every single other game ive ever played, yet in gw2 it just feels pointless and weak to me to the point you may as well not even play it.

Doubtful but i hope one day they give us a proper healing build that actually heals, i miss the trinity i really do, mass dps does not satisfy

In GW3 maybe, though they might surprise you and go with an up to date DX13.

Adding DX11 support would be a major change to the core game, something that isn’t done casually. Outside of a major expansion with an overhaul, I wouldn’t expect it to happen. Furthermore, considering just how many basic features they still need to implement and just how long it has taken to add those features, I just don’t see it happening. They probably don’t have the in-house resources to do it either, just like how they had to get specialists in to counter botting.

If they were going to work on it though, it probably wouldn’t be implemented anytime within the next 5 or so years.

If lord of the rigns online can constantly patch to the latest DX with updates with such a small dev team and cash flow and player population then how can arena net not possibly do it for guild wars? its down to greed and laziness.

I want to link my old gw1 account to gw2 for the HoM, but since like 6 years ago i always use the same username and password for every game i play and account i have, but my gw1 log in details use a none existant email address i dont like the look of and password.

When i went to link my gw1 and gw2 together my email and account name in the top right of this website changed to my old gw1 details, email and dfrgwrgrgeew for account name, i canceled this straight away…

Is there no way to link the accounts without being forced to use 7 year old log in details and email? this is truly stopping me linking the accounts, i want my modern email and modern account name for my gw2 account.

Many other games have this feature and with GW2 having so so many different builds ect even having to sometimes change mid dungeon or for WvW i think it would be great if we could save build templates and gear sets like we could in guild wars 1.

In games with agile dps warriors a lot of the time they do not wear full plate Armour, to gain that agility, a guardian should get a longbow if a Mesmer can have a two handed sword, did you see scholars wielding 6 foot swords?

The mesmer is a hypnotist … his greatsword is floating and shooting beams. Yeah, I haven’t seen one IRL yet … And well, even 132cm (4.5 foot) katanas (samurai sword) weighted only ~1.5kg (~3 lbs). A good longbow weights 20kg (45lbs). If you make the arrow repel, it’s quite a force on your arms. You would’nt want to wear any non-press-fit armor while shooting.

Bows for Guardians? Neither “realistically” speaking, nor “balacing wise” speaking. “fantasy wise” speaking any class should be able to wear all weapons.

A katana and a longsword and a greatsword are very different in size and weight, you can’t compare a katana to a greatsword.

Well made Armour was not that bulky at all, and nowhere near as debilitating as one might think, the only reason knights did not use bows often was because they were there to lead the men into close combat and they would be more useful in expensive Armour and it was expected of them to lead.

A knight in full plate Armour may have had some issues trying to shoot an English longbow but a short bow would have been easy for them.

Actually, it’s the opposite. You need accuracy and swiftness to use a bow. Wearing super heavy armor is not meant to be used here. Guardians are supposed to be the front liners. Heavy armor with heavy weapons (speaking realistically). Warriors are the same, but they sacrifice a bit armor for mobility/ attacking power.
You don’t need heavy armor when you stand in the back, do you? Archers were leather wearer (or even fabric for asian ones … well any asian one wore fabric). Scholars are even further in the back, developing weapons without touching the battlefield. That’s why they wore light “armors”.

Want to be a devasting damage, healing artillery? Standing in the back, healing the front and not being attacked once? The bow should have an anti-aggro skill, right?

Because guardians are GUARDians, more for protection..
Warriors are WARriors so they do the attacking..

I dont feel my healing is OP, especially when in WVW last night a warrior killed me in under 2 seconds, the frost bow a ele makes does healing and aoe. The point is the AOE on a guardian is so small.

A warrior is build on brutality and fighting up close, a guardian would be a guard, so they would be most logical to have a bow to stand back and defend areas while supporting a with a bow ect, this is why i think it makes more sense for a guardian to have one, after all warriors have guns.

And like in the war of the roses guns are powerful and very short range making them good for warriors to have.

Hello could guardians please get another range weapon such as a longbow, this could have cool ability’s and shoot blue magic fire arrows for example, the scepter is ok but it lacks big aoe like the warrior longbow and feels far too slow, and the staff aoe is too close range for me.

The choices i would like to see in order would be…

1. Longbow – Could have heals and blue aoe fire like warrior’s
2. Rifle – Could be a sort of magic en fussed gun
3. Short bow – Similar to longbow but 1200 range

Hello my friend came back from uni and was very excited and bought GW2 and then realized he cant join my server desolation, we are both very annoyed at the fact the server is locked this is ridiculous and even tho he tried at 5am still the server was full and he could not join because server pop does not change from full.

Also the fact there is no way to guest to his server and at least play PVE with this this is not acceptable, and we want him transferred to my server.

My Phenom 2 X4 965 keeps a steady 60Fps and never below 30-40 in WvW……..

ALSO Phenom is better then bulldozer performance per clock. Everyone with a brain knows that. They run games better. The right term would rather be “i Wouldnt even bother with a Bulldozer FX CPU”

That column looks poorly written, AMD actually gave up shares to another company (Globalfoundries), I don’t think they particularly gave up on the CPU market.

The FX series was a bomb, but this isn’t the first time AMD has bombed, they did it before and made a comeback (the MP series, the original Phenom series). You know if Intel has no competition, they’ll jack up prices, an i5 3570P right now is $180, without competition they can very well push that to $400 if they want.

Well they got what they deserve, AMD take the pi these days…. let me give an example.

Ok so lord of the rings war int he north, i preorded this game looked so forward to it, AMD cards had a game breaking bug that reduced your FPS to 0-3 making the game unplayable, this was an issue with their driver and not the game dev team, the dev team told AMD urgently fromt he start, and 8 month YES F EIGHT MONTHS LATER A FIX… so why in gods name did it take AMD 8 month to bekittento and respond and fix a dam issue that was their fault from laziness? so i had a CE LOTR WITN box sat on my shelf for 8 month wishing i could play it…. and this was not a CPU so i can imagine how poor their last gen of CPU were compared to intel when this is how much their care, also don’t even get me started on age of conan, yay 20% GPU usage yay.

I used to love AMD and ATI but i dont know lately ive just been put off so much by them its no wonder they are giving up, they just never really invested into it like intel i suppose and now they are going mobile…

Well 20 fps is not bad but that is a small keep siege, ive been in 150 man batttles at the eternity keep, also you’re processor scores 6100 ish compaired to the older phenoms with 4000, so you are 50% faster.

I have to say, in all honesty, I am not an unsocial gamer but I’m not really one for ‘raiding’ or other events with lots of characters. Well that was true, at least, before this game! I find the ‘mechanics’ of GW2 ease the player into cooperation much better than some other games I have played. It is good to know that even though my current (main) rig is old that it can still play a modern game at a good enough level with fair graphics settings. Yes! Over clocking the CPU helps some – it was designed for that. If I want a faster FPS, I do not mind turning the graphic settings down a bit to help my rig out.

Also you know AMD have given up on desktop processors? i read they cant be bothered with trying to complete so they are going 100% mobile laptops now, no more gaming processors.

No, I had not read or heard that AMD had given up on desktop processors – if you could mail me a link for a report about it I’d be interested to read it.

In fairness, processor manufactures and other technology manufacturers change direction many times. Some years past, it is said, AMD would reverse engineer Intel gear then sell similar stock at lower prices. Later, AMD surged ahead with their own designs. Currently, I am told, Intel is leading again. Who knows what either AMD or Intel truly have lined up apart from themselves? We shall have to wait and see.

There are many factors to getting a general use and balanced PC that is also good enough for modern gaming – not just the CPU. For many of us, a compromise must be reached between speed, quality, availability and price (often the most important aspect to the buyer). I would have loved to put a nicer sound device in my rig but went with on board audio due to pricing at time of build for example.

Both AMD and Intel components can run GW2 (a game still in its infancy with associated teething troubles) – admittedly some better than others. I just think it is unfair that some people use ‘blanket’ language or heavily biased ‘I am right and you are wrong’ arguments on either side of the debate. That’s life though!

Happy gaming all. Don’t worry if you do not have ‘the best’ or a high end rig – GW2 is playable at lower settings if need be. I had to suffice with very low end systems myself for many years (I aint’nt rich) so I understand how much the want for a better PC can pull!

I was in mists yesterday and talking with a guy who had a 570 gtx gfx card which is a little worse then the card i have and he had an i7 and he was on 60 capped with vsync and me about 30 fps. shows how much intel makes a difference.

I do not claim that AMD are better or that Intel is. They both have good and bad points in general. You have your opinion, I have my opinion and that is fair enough.

Now I have been more than reasonable so far and even suggested that my rig is getting a bit long in the tooth. The information I provided is truthful and includes unaltered 3DMark and GW2 game advisor data*. The images I have linked are unaltered with the exception of the ones that are cut outs from the larger images (they are cut out but otherwise unaltered). I have not faked any data or altered any. The screen shots that clearly show the in game menu with FPS where grabbed from the game and I did not alter anything – the FPS shown is real for example.

To say you do not trust me for any reason is tantamount to trolling and uncalled for, but as I said, that is up to you. No point starting a flame war over this, but I find it impossible to reason with the unreasonable.

To those arguing that I and others are lying or deluded, I have no answer to change your blinkered opinion! I have, as noted, provided my data / information truthfully – take it as is or simply dismiss it without consideration.

I do not need to provide any more data or information and feel that even if I did, those of you that have clear superiority issues will likely either call me a liar outright or infer in some way that I am not trustworthy.

It seems strange to me that I (seemingly alone though I may need to reread the thread) have shown honest evidence of what my system is capable of just to be told I am untrustworthy and have it inferred that I am a liar or deluded when all I have done is submitted honest data and information. Others in this thread have shown data or information and I have read (most of) it with interest and not raised question about the validity of those submissions.

I am or have been a part of many gaming forums and, for the most part, the forum communities I have been part of have been great. It is starting to look to me as if these GW2 forums are far from great. The unfriendly attitudes, arrogance, sniping, rudeness, negativity and trolling of the type that is meant to offend in these forums are not good at all.

I will continue to enjoy GW2 on my system at the settings the game detects or maybe alter the settings slightly upwards.None of you naysayers can change that. I find GW2 to be an excellent game (even with the teething troubles) and I hope you all enjoy the game too – regardless of your systems or bias.

*My CPU is reported as 2.8 GHz by windows as the ‘stock’ (I cannot think of other way to express that just now) setting. In reality the CPU is overclocked to approximately 3.4 GHz . Trust me on this or do not – it will not change the fact.

I have a 955BE and the performance is crap with 12 gig ddr3 and 6970 2 GIG, AMD processors are clearly worse on this game, and as you did not provide any WVW shots i dont really trust you, like the people shouting i have 120 fps with v sync on in wvw using a ati 3700… post a WvW screenshot please on max gfx, also at prime time i only had to que 20 min, and i play on the most populated server. even i get 60 fps capped in pve fighting a mob, but 10 in WVW so…

Small Skirmish – 20-30 fps
Medium Battle – 15-25 fps
Keep Siege – 6-16 fps

… people with lower specs or the same as me claiming 30-60 fps in sieges… sorry but that’s just crap and a lie and you know it, stop e peening and misleading people, the WvW lagg is horrific and on max gfx down right UNPLAYABLE with freezes and pauses and jitters and sub 10 constant fps. i need to upgrade to an I7 3770k this weekend.
