And what about not having anything yet makes you think you never will? Perhaps they are keeping that information from us for a good reason? Perhaps they have other things planned?
I read somewhere (though I’ll have to find where) that the Maguuma Jungle was actually Melandru’s “realm.”
Not sure of the official-ness of that, though.
Or are you implying an overhaul of the gear system, too?
That wouldn’t necessarily have to be the case…
What about simply making the gear not require any specific level? You still could only get “better” gear from certain areas of the world, and/or the TP. Another option would be to literally make all gear for the most part “equal” minus bonus choices. It would be a drastic change to the current MMO model, but it would again help in reducing the “AHMG MUST HAVE L33T ARMORZ!” mentality a bit. The main reason most people care to get “awesome” gear in the first place is to show off the model/texture.
I see that this idea is going far beyond anything that could really happen in GW2, but it is definitely an interesting concept to consider.
I support this! And also… this link

Aren’t dungeon’s technically just “small-scale” raids anyway?
Ooh, or perhaps at/near the end of a dungeon-esque area…a random hidden offshoot path…good stuff!
This exact topic was started a few minutes ago.
I sure hope so. I’m not against just starting a new character, but I do like to change my existing char’s appearance every once in awhile. Change is good, and keeps me playing that character.
Supported. I’m not sure how that would fit into the current system, but I always loved striking out on an epic journey to the ONLY known place a particular boss “lived” in order to take him down and steal his power.
That being said, however, with waypoints and such, it wouldn’t even really feel like an epic journey anymore, either…
I support this. This might be asking a lot, but I’d even like to go a bit further and ask for variable settings. For example, detect how many people are nearby and adjust particle amount accordingly.
I can typically run at 50+ fps with everything absolutely maxed…but if ONE engineer is anywhere nearby with a flamethrower, I’m done.
I imagine after realizing just how long it took to create all those specific dye areas on the armor they just said “kitten that.”
I would love to be able to dye my weapons, because I know I’d still make them believable. I really don’t want to see those pink, blue, and orange-wearing ele’s with glowing white afros running around with a turquoise and purple staff, though…
Players need to get rid of there ego, this does that.
While I do STRONGLY agree with that, I don’t believe that this will do it. It may help and be a push in the right direction, but we are humanity. Ego comes with that fact.

Not to mention requiring people to buy more gems so they can expand their bank to fit all this new gear they’re holding onto
Yea, I’ve noticed this as well. The only way I can hit them is if I’m constantly moving. It seems to be obstructed when I’m standing still.
This might need to be moved to bugs, though…
Huh, that’s not a bad idea, Daboris. We’re obviously in a very magical world, with glowy-effect weapons and armor, why would our jewelry (with their own magical effects, I might add) not have glowy effects…which would in the end also make dealing with certain armor clipping issues a WHOLE lot easier.
Oh god I would love that. You mean I actually have to explore?
Unfortunately, everybody would then just wiki…type ‘this map’…ah, that’s where everything is.
Honestly though, an MMO with no level (or at least hidden) would be amazing. Maybe show it once you hit 80 just so all the people who only care about being the best can still feel that way…but leave the rest of the game with a strong…adventurer feel. I hate to bring Skyrim up, and I know it has a level system, but it was built in such a way that, at least for me, level didn’t matter. I was able to just explore, and play without giving a kitten where I was or what level I was.
Please oh please! I’ve built a similar system into our guild website, but half of the members literally refuse to even look at the website, let alone use it.
That’s a very interesting concept. I’ve always wondered what it would be like to literally have an MMO-type of game with no level system at all…just story and stuff to do. That way, people could actually play the game instead of getting all hot and bothered about getting to max level and then complaining that there’s not enough content.
This could definitely be cool, but I foresee clipping issues from hell with certain types of armor (not to mention gloves and such).
I agree. With the Claw of Jormag, you have to be at the right place at the right time…and actually think about what you’re doing. With the other two, you find a sweet spot, and can pretty much stay there the entire fight and still get gold.
Nor am I, but I can definitely understand the need for this, as well!
I know this is a MUCH larger project than it initially seems.
Reason: As far as I am aware, the point of the current combat system was to get people to move around and pay attention to what’s happening in the world. The main goal was to alleviate the typical MMO “stand-in-one-place-spamming-a-specific-skill-queue-as-fast-as-you-possibly-can” issue.
Problem: Since the above-mentioned idea of combat is so deeply branded into our brains from other MMOs, it’s hard for people to break away from it. People tend to build their characters for 100% damage output and not really care about much else with the mindset of “if I can kill it before it kills me, I’m fine.” I’m not saying that is a bad way to play, however, it lends to standing still spamming skills so we can kill faster.
Proposed Solution: As the title says, make all foes hit MUCH harder. This way, people can still build and trait for pure damage, but in order to stay alive long enough to DO that damage, they will have to move around, dodge, CC, kite, pick up that conveniently-placed boulder to knock down said foe for a 2-second breather, etc…
Simply put, if you have a general understanding that foes hurt…badly, you will know that you need to keep yourself mobile, and actually think about how you’re fighting…maybe even spend some time talking to the people around you to come up with somewhat of a tactic to reach a similar goal.
I do kind of agree with this, actually. Perhaps it’s just me, but I miss working on my weaponsmithing craft, just so I can build myself an epic mining pick…to do more weaponsmithing slightly faster.
“Minimalizing Grind” doesn’t mean “remove need to play.”
While many of us would agree and would love to have that kind of customization…you must keep in mind all the OTHER people who would attempt to upload inappropriate images.
This could be prevented by hiring somebody to approve each image, but that would be quite the expensive position(s) to fill.
Well, technically, isn’t gold more rare than silver in the real world, too? Hence why it has a higher value?
I totally agree about quivers…though I think I remember them saying something about them being “future gem shop options”…I could be wrong, though.
While I understand where you’re coming from, I am almost certain that most people would just hide everything and run around the world naked… We are, after all, human.
Perv.
Well, yes…usually. However, in this case, I was attempting to clarify the original suggestion, as it sounded to me like “I want to be able to hide my armor.”
I am unsure of what you’re suggesting here. You want to be able to appear naked…but still receive the benefit of armor?
As a guild leader, it is obviously important for me to keep an active community. Having people in the guild who never log in doesn’t help that. Not knowing who those people are makes it even worse.
I propose/suggest adding a column (or perhaps a hover tooltip) in the guild roster that displays how long it has been since each member logged on…and, if possible, also show when they last represented.
I support this! Also, throw in the ability to literally flip the bar for us left-handed people (weapon skills on the right, utility skills on the left of the health bubble)…I’ve had to re-train my brain to think of the leftmost skill as my rightmost key.
I agree. I’ve always been a fan of the cosmetic system in LOTRO. The only difference though is that most of the armor in LOTRO was absolutely horrid (therefor making that type of system a necessity), wheras “most” of the armor in GW2 at least looks decent until you can afford another set of transmute stones.
Back to the main topic though, It would certainly make customizing that perfect look more appealing…since you wouldn’t have to “wait” on putting new armor you find on until you can get stones.
