Thank you all so much for explaining this. I was under the impression the squad leader/commander would automatically be the “instance owner” and set the flags.. apparently it’s tied to someone who enters first..
Does the same apply to the “in between” mini-bosses and trash? Like the Vale Divisions or the Bandits/ghosts?
Thanks!!
I am trying to figure out something about raids that has me confused. I understand the raid “lockout” stuff and not getting the loot from bosses more than once in a given raid week.. but here’s where I am confused.
Let’s say I LEAD a raid group, I created the raid group.. everyone joins.. and then we enter a raid.. let’s say we down the first boss and then call it a night. If I go back later (in the same raid week).. would that boss have respawned (assuming I’m leading another raid.. or even the same exact group).. I thought “progression” thru the wing in a given week would “save” based on the leader of the raid group. IF I joined someone else’s raid.. if THEY had already cleared TWO bosses.. I would join the new group and immediately go to boss three..
Or does progress THRU the raid get lost immediately upon exiting the instance? And has to be repeated each time you enter regardless of raid leader or group? In other words, you pretty much have to finish each wing all in one session?
Thanks
Update: I’ve been getting more and more involved with FIRE and have developed a great fellowship and connection with my guildmates. I haven’t felt this connected to a guild since MANY MANY years ago when I played another MMO…
One of the things I’ve not had the pleasure of doing in GW2 so far is raiding. From past experience I will NOT PUG a raid.. just won’t.. and FIRE really wasn’t raiding sadly.. They had tried it back early in HoT but things didn’t work out.
So, getting that raiding fever again.. and wanting to get my legendary armor.. I’ve created a new initiative to begin raiding. The guild has responded well.. and I led a 9 man group into VG this past Saturday.. very OFF the CUFF. No optimized builds, traits, gear, etc.. just “LET’S DO THIS!!.” Many of the guildies have NEVER done VG or any other raid.. so it was new territory..
We took the 9 man group in.. and managed to get to Phase 3 before wiping. We did great I felt for a first time group going out!! But we are building up to create optimized teams, builds, and gear.. so the more we have.. the more teams will run.. the more will have access to Legendary Insights if you want to get Legendary Armor!
So, if you were are looking for a family friendly, Christ centered (though any faith is welcome!!) guild to enjoy GW2, and want to RAID visit us at:

FIRE is a great guild and very diverse. We are very active in WvW (Northern Shiverpeaks server), and now Raiding is our new initiative!! PVE, World Bosses, Guild Missions and events..
Come join us!!

I joined fire sometime last year.. but have largely been inactive due to real life stuff. In any case.. I’ve gotten some time and began playing again.. and the FIRE gang are a phenomenal group of people. Fun to play with.. great to chat with.. all around amazing people.. Fire is gamers.. Fire is friendship. It’s all about having fun and enjoying yourself.
If you are into WvW then there’s no question you want to be here. We encourage a family friendly environment based around solid Christian values..
I’m glad to be here..
What Jennifer said is mostly true.. but there are little groups of folks who enjoy PVP and WvW.. I think we will be setting up little havoc groups.. but nothing so much as on a permanent “schedule.” But who knows… Once I get my schedule sorted out and my characters properly geared I’d love to lead a late night havoc squad myself..
Do you guys run havoc/roam by chance in wvw?
Do you do any world events, or PvP/WvW ( and which server)?
Thanks
I agree with most of above.. though 15 min is OK..
I had a few matches where we either won or lost in the 15 min.. and a few that ended by time limit. Those were some hard matches.. but didn’t look like either side was going to win.. even if it went 60 min.. great back and forth. Lots of fun!!
Some other thoughts:
- like mentioned.. the guards are easily solo’d.. and the archers really don’t seem to be that useful. Just spawn breakers and have at it.. so buff the guards and adjust the mechanic to allow the archers to be useful.. MAYBE make them defensive.. and have them post around the doors to rain arrows on the players and breakers.
- if time limit seems to be an issue. you COULD give the breakers a buff that negates MOST player damage.. but they are susceptible to CC.. and give them some breakbars.. THEN its a matter of WHEN they get to the doors.. rather than IF.. that would allow 15 min matches to be plenty of time.. Make the archers useful for defense and mounting on the walls to rain arrows down when the breakers show up. The breakers can get damaged from the archers.. and greatly reduced dmg by players PLUS CC.
- I think separate CUES for Stronghold, Conquest, and Courtyard IS a good idea.. and then also Ranked/Unranked as well. Build templates/presets would be a great tool to add as well.. Would be nice to be able to “create a build along with gear” for specific maps/games and call it up WHEN you want to… Simple and quick changing. =)
- The intro SUMMARY screen that pops up when you zone into the Stronghold map says you have to use a WARHORN to summon the hero. That obviously needs to be updated. =)
All in all I had a great time.. Thanks for the preview.. Looking forward to another run. =)

Ok.. so maybe this has been beaten to death several times since release.. but I’ve not seen mention of it.. so I just wanted to throw this out there in case perhaps.. it hadn’t…
I think it would be great to have a mobile app that could allow you to see the armor sets, weapons, etc.. in the game.. with their stats.. and where they are available from (crafted, drops, what boss, etc)..
I do NOT neccessarily feel that we need to have direct access to our toons from the app.. but at least be able to pull or look up their gear.. and then see WHAT upgrades can be had and from where.. I just hit my first level 80.. and it’s mess of trying to figure out what gear to get.. from where.. and when..
I just thought an app like an “armory” would be helpful in that regard. The wiki is great.. and has all the info.. but I don’t think you can use it to find “upgrades” for particular slotted items. if something DOES exist (web or app).. please share. =)
Thanks
See ya in Tyria!
Thanks.. I’ll be on later today, Dramen sent me this invite this afternoon (though I’m still locked out on the forum).
Invites have been sent! Welcome to ARES! ?
Hey guys. .. sounds like the place I need to call home.
I’ve been in contact privately with Dramen and went to the website. I registered there but it needs to be approved before I can post in the forums (i.e. recruiting forum/application? ). I should be in game later today and will try to reach one of you.
I’m also strongly considering moving to Dragonbrand too.
Thanks
I am curious.. some of the items needed for legendary weapons require skill points to purchase the items.. so I was curious.. HOW MANY skill points can a player get in GW2? I at first thought it was strictly for unlocking “skills” on the character.. but now it seems like it’s also used as a currency.. I just wonder if I should “not purchase” certain skills and save the points for the legendary…
Also, is it possible to equip TWO legendary weapons? Like two of the daggers.. or a mace/sword and a shield? Are there enough skill points to unlock more than one for a character.. or do you begin buying items with alts to have enough points to buy it all. How many total are there in the game?
Thanks
Aenielida (the legendary n00b). =)
I was just curious.. I have a guardian that is nearly level 30.. and an ELE I’ve been working with lately that I’ve gotten up to 60+. I have yet to do ANY dungeons (not in any guilds or have any “friends” that I play with.. and LFG has not been fruitful).. but would like to work towards getting tokens for a legendary or other gear…
Is it possible/advisable to run AC as a level 60+ character in story mode and then in the explorable mode? I have seen videos of people soloing AC and farming gear.. just wondering if that was something a level 60+ could do?
Or does it “downlevel” the player in that dungeon? (and the same for the other dungeons that come up.. I think I have that Manor unlocked and maybe one or two others).
Thanks
Thanks a ton!! That’s helpful!!
Ok, so I’m not sure if this question would ideally go here.. or in the PVP/WvW forum.. but since it IS a “beginner” type question I’d thought I’d post here.. =)
When in PVP or in WvW when a player actually goes into a downed state.. without using the “Finish Them” option.. is it possible to kill them by other means? Can they be attacked with “normal attacks” in that state and die? Or will ONLY the “FINISH” mechanic completely kill them off? I’ve had a few opportunities in WvW but didn’t see the downed player as I went by (hectic fights).. and just dropped a lava pool on them as I past and lost the FINISH option… didn’t know if that did anything. LOL!!
Thanks
Thanks everyone.. I appreciate the information and the education. =) All your information has been helpful in my understanding of GW2. =)
Thanks

Hello all.. just a question about the megaserver stuff. I started with Launch.. but have played on and off since.. and just started playing again this holiday season after many months away. So it seems the Megaservers have changed some of the rules.. so I just wanted some “clarification” please.
I joined up initially with Borlis Pakitteneason was the lower population at launch. I was hoping to avoid queue times to login (like I had with WoW years before).. It’s never been a problem in GW2. I do some PVP/ WvW also (beginning).. so I’ve never had too long a queue in WvW it seems.. BUT I’ve been wanting to do more PVP and WvW (mainly to level my characters).. and feel I’d get more XP going with a server that fares better than BP….. but with no level 80 character yet.. I don’t want to be “unwelcome” for joining WvW on a more competitive server.
But other than WvW, my current server has NO impact on my playing in sPVP or PVE right? As far as the megaserver goes.. I can group with players/guilds on other “servers” right? I have friends on JQ.. so even without guesting I could even meet them in game and group with them? Is that understanding correct? Would joining another server now with the Megaserver cause me to have to “queue” up to LOGIN or just shoot me to overflow servers? I would imagine WvW queue times might be longer on more active WvW servers.. how long would that be? Just curious…
Thanks all.
