@Agitated Fox, except for Astral Force, is there any example of a full 100% about-face reversal from Anet when it comes to Rangers?
My ranger history knowledge, coupled with my memory skills, aren’t good enough to give you definitive answer for that so let me ask you a question instead. Is there any example of a full 100% about-face reversal from Anet when it comes to any other class?
(edited by AgitatedFox.5287)
Blew my mind with 2. Way to go.
Think you can handle a third big boy? Bonfire radius.
That wasn’t a reversal so much as a net buff. That was removing a trait that made the radius that high, then adding the radius in baseline later.
It was perceived as a nerf when it first hit. Thats what I’m basing it on. You could say the same about WHaO otherwise.
any on-demand combo field in this game is treasured and people are proud of their classes ability to do it, the whole combat system of the game revolves around use of AoE, which combo fields enhance quite a bit. Our pets are kitten. There is no denying it. We have the worst class mechanic of the game. Thats not to say that they can’t be fixed and I seriously cannot comprehend why Arena Net haven’t done so in the 3 years this games been out. a 20% boost in base movement speed and allow their attacks to have a much bigger radius (so much so that the animations are more a thing of style than functional use) and we’re golden. This is why the Smokescale is such a big thing, it adds another combo field to a class. Yes you have a better burst with Smoke Assault being the F2, but there is no question that the field is the better skill overall.
Just remove the combo field from Smoke Cloud and call it a day.
May as well delete the pet if you do that. The whole reason this thread exists is for the on-demand combo field.
I really like Vine Surge, such a beautiful skill but yes, it could do with some work. Cast time for sure needs to be reduced, I find myself cancelling it out every now and then when I try to use a second skill after pressing 4 as I think it’s done. So yes, a shorter cast time would be massively appreciated, but I believe some added condi’s (such as a poison or bleed) would help it go a long way.

You get one trait safely put to the side for a while and you people implode and explode seemingly at the same time. Look at the title on this, talk about over reacting. Go play druid PvP (which in my opinion was the only thing I would ever use this trait in) and you’ll find that, hey kitten me Druid still works fine. Get off the self pity ranger train and go enjoy the game.
Hello Guardian community! I hope you’re all enjoying being super cool atm
I need some advice. I am a Ranger main whose been loving the Druid recently, and I need to know some tips on countering the new specialization you’re all rockin’. I normally try to play the profession i am struggling against for a while to learn how it works (and indeed, Guardian is my secondary class) and improve my ability to fight against it, but all my time is being pumped into mastering the Druid right now!
If you could let me know what the specs weaknesses and strengths are (how it performs against condi, physical dmg etc), plus some solid counters, that would be highly appreciated.
Cheers.
3 cheers for Irenio, the man who gave us: Quickdraw, Remorseless, Lead the Wind, A FIXED WHaO, Smokescale, That trait which makes the pet take 3 condis off us and the one that removes a condi when using a survival skill (their names escape me), Quickening Zephyr, knockdown in spiketrap, enhanced moment of clarity, might stacking demon MDG, Grace of the Land, Glyph of empowerment and equality, Ancestral Grace, Natural Stride (the druid in general really, it’s amazing) and all the other stuff I can’t remember right now.
Thanks for being a great Ranger dev Irenio, a little more work cough sword AA cough and we’re golden.
Watch the threads about this get merged into one big kittenfest so devs can “listen” to it.
Having the Smoke on auto makes no sense. Why would I want my pet to randomly put a smoke field down, that it will have to stand in to not take damage? It has no tactical use to me.
This.
-Pet puts smokefield down randomly, interrupting a stream of dps. -Boss/mobs move
-smokescale moves too
-random smokefield chillin at the edge of the battlefield
-pet made 1/4 more useless.
It’s our MECHANIC. THE THING THAT MAKES US RANGERS. why are you so intent in making it useless as you can Anet?!?
I genuinely hate the people that QQ over ranger power and get us nerfed in seconds.
(edited by AgitatedFox.5287)
Ranger—Smokescale: Smoke Assault: This skill has switched places with Smoke Cloud so that it will now be the F2 skill for this pet. Fixed an issue in which this skill dealt higher than intended damage; it has been reduced by 50%.
Typical Anet. Always ready for nerfs but never ready for buffs.
What the hell do they mean “not intended?” They set the kittening values, play tested it, must’ve said “Yeah, that’s good.” And had done with it
Fed up of being shafted again and again by poor planning and failure to predict anything. WHaO was a great example.
I don’t mind being nerfed at the end of the day, but 50%? Just, for the love of God THINK before you do something and then you won’t have to nerf anything!
(Tries to think of a suitable poem for the occasion)
’Twas the night before launch
And all through the game
Not a creature was stirring
Not even an AgitatedFox.
The gamers sat by their computers with care,
In hopes that a Dev, soon would be there;
The download was sitting, awaiting the call
With hopes of crashing. The game and us all.
I shed a tear. Quite stunning.
…a somewhat eerie feeling this. The forums are relatively quiet, the mice are sleeping, the owls are gliding gracefully through the night air…unbeknownst to them that in just under 4 hours, all hell is about to break loose. Enjoy it while you can fellow Tyrians.
Good luck to the devs and the whole arena net team, this is your finest hour. May Dwayna shed her light upon you, may Grenth keep you from the icy clutches of the playerbase, let Melandru guide your hand and Lyssa, your thoughts and logical thinking. And pray that Balthazar will lead you to victory. Abandons excluded because I killed the kitten out of him hundreds of years ago.
WHAT? thats dumb… Is that only for Thieves? I don’t have that problem on my Ranger
What? I think you’ve missed the point…
TL;DR – Thief gains stealth on the AA for 1/2s every 3rd attack.
I had an interesting idea the other day for Thief while I was killing one on my Ranger. I noticed that recently, their survivability has really been a bit poor (excluding the super elite pro’s who are amazing) and it made me sad to hear that a few people are seeing the Thief drop out of the meta. As someone who mains a class that has not been in the meta for a few years, I sympathise with you Thieves and I feel your pain.
So the obvious answer was “more survivability or fix the power creep”. While we know that ANET are pretty slow to respond to things like that (unless it’s nerfing the Ranger >_>) my idea was to add a short blip of stealth to the thiefs Auto attacks or a few of its other skills. The most common thief I fight is D/D so I’m not sure how well this would apply to none D/D thieves but anyway. All it would be is say, every 2nd or 3rd attack the thief gains 1/2 second of stealth. Making it appear and then suddenly disappear every now and then. The most annoying thing I hate about stealth is that I have to re-target you and then start attacking again, which can take time. Time that could potentially save a thieves life.
I dunno, sounds a little bit OP now that I’ve typed it all out but I’m sure you clever people could tone it down a bit.
P.S, I don’t main thief and I’m not a smart person so please don’t flame me like, lack of understanding XD. Just an Idea.
I was contacted in-game last night and shown that not only the fern hound’s regen applies twice, lingering magic also boosts its duration by an incorrect amount.
None of the other pet boons seem affected.
So that’s in there now.
- Crippling talon (dagger #5) only has 900 range – tooltip states 1200 range.
This one is false, as I have tested the range on it in both PVP and PVE modes and was able to land a hit at max range. Screenshot below with shortbow screenshots as references to 900 range.
Thanks guys, removed this.
Managed to reproduce the trapper rune bug – dodge rolling during the arming phase of the trap (as soon as the activation bar is finished so you don’t interrupt it but before the stealth and super-speed is granted) prevents you from gaining the stealth and super-speed. Not sure yet if this is the only way for this to occur.
Also remembered another bug – Troll Unguent does not appear to scale down correctly with levels. The lower the level you are scaled down to the larger the heal relative to your total hp. Being scaled down to level 4 by standing in the stating area for new characters after finishing the tutorial it heals for 93 hp per tick (tool-tip states 90 per tick) for a total heal of 930. in mostly dire gear i have 723 max hp in the same zone. Comparing this to WHAO which in the same situation heals about 140 hp.
Thanks, added these.
Use of WHaO doesn’t work with Sharks frenzy ability. Cannot gain the quickness from it.
Ok, did you check if any other pet boons are not copied?
I’d like to get them all at once if possible.
All other pet boons work fine, and I re-tested the shark one. It only seems to work some of the time? I tested it a bunch of times and for the most part it worked, but there were a few occasions where I got nothing from it.

Roy you’ve absolutely made my day here. As a passionate Ranger I can honestly say, thank you Sir. -tips hat-

Just wondering what the actual drop rate is for these things. I’ve had two in the last two weeks (Warhorn and Torch) but I’d really like the sword. Need to know if I’ve just been extremely lucky or if, actually, it’s TOO hard to get.
Thanks.
Ok. I found some videos from That_Shaman.
However they are up to 9 months old. Remember that after 9 months time, there is no guarantee they will be in game or look the same after all these months, so take with a grain of salt.
That medium armor is very nice and I can get behind something like that.
I have a feeling it likely is all finalised but I’m just letting them know that I will cry if it’s more trench coats and no capes >_> :’c
I read that there will be 3 new armour sets for each armour class (Heavy, Medium, Light)
Now I don’t particularly care for heavy or light, but please can the Medium armours not be more trench coats or some viney poison flower bs. Natural looking armour with straps and utility items that look a bit “survivaly” and “medievaly” would be fantastic.
Something like what I’ve attached.
also, don’t ruin good looking armor by giving it a fire wreath around the right arm (I’m looking at you, flame legion coat) or some oversized hip guard -stares at prowler coat-.
Simplicity is best.
…at least in my opinion.

Honestly, all we need to do is be able to dodge whilst mid leap.
Hey all,
As we hurtle toward launch most of my time is locked into Druid and Scrapper changes.
After much tribulation I was able to make a change to WHAO to remove the static boon stack application on Might and Stability stacks being copied; this was actually a fairly difficult change to implement as we don’t really have support for copying boons with preset durations.
This’ll go in with the 23rd.
Ok, had to stare at this for a bit, but that seems workable. Might and Stability don’t stack duration so they shouldn’t pull the infinite recursion gag.
Now put a stunbreak on one of our traps and we’re golden
.
And fix pet AI.
and fix all the ranger bugs
and give us a bit more damage
and fix sword auto
and fix shortbow
then we’re golden.
I see where OP is coming from. Spotters in real life tend to be Snipers on the edge of cliffs miles away. I agree it should have more range, or have its named changed :P
Ultron runes confirmed.
Hmmm, new amulets. Aside from zealots, anything else you folks think would be interesting?
Oooh a bunch of fixes for the Ranger would be very interesting.
unlikely if I’m still here. We deserve an explanation at least for the kitten they’ve caused us, and if you guys want to forget about then you’ll only continue the loop.
Hate how they think they can get away with this. What a massive kitten you to the Rangers not even giving us an explanation. Normally I’d be on Anets side over this kind of stuff but this is out of order.
Nice suggestions. Just hope some of the stuff we’ve come out with recently for the core Ranger will actually be implemented :S
Hey, devs, still here. Waiting.
I’d love to get involved with this but unfortunately, I main a Ranger so that rules me out.

Your constructive feedback has been really awesome so far and I trust will continue to be. I understand your concerns with not enough being communicated and I’m looking into getting more information out on some of the more solid changes we have.
Great, see this is more like it.
This also shows that you’re on our side, Irenio, and it’s not your fault we’re not allowed info. This is something we have needed. Now please go and respond to the WHaO thread and you’re a saint.
I bet Roy got ahold of our Smokescale.
I lol’ed
Very nice stuff. Shows you what Rangers are capable of!
Meanwhile, Karl McLain is being a great dev for Thief and Guardian and has made two threads detailing loads of changes for each specialisation. admitedly, Irenio basically posted the same thing in the Engi thread so we aren’t getting completely bummed, but I am curious why Karl’s allowed to toot his change-trumpet and Irenio has to keep his in a case? Must be some ancient secret business knowledge only Anet knows about.
Did you seriously think “teasing” the ranger community was a good idea to keep them happy and get them hyped at this time? I assume you’ve read almost every post thats been made in the last 12 days? You have dug yourself YET ANOTHER hole here. Stop messing about and actually think before you engage with us. I’d prefer that over frequent skirmishes of stupidity.

As the title says, give us your favorite names for your pets
Because the names don’t stick when we swap pets, I like to keep them simple.
Owl: David
Stalker: Pete
Wolf: Gary
Salamander: Harry
I have great imagination.
Did you really just take a photo of the corner of your computer monitor?
Don’t hate on modern “Screen Shots”. Too edgy for you.
This is why I don’t go to art museums. Last one I went to was the national gallery in DC and the girls I was with kept telling me I just didn’t understand and there was a deeper meaning. The exhibit we were looking at was literally a net full of trash hanging from the ceiling.

Are people really still complaining about burning?
I have only died a handful of times due to intense burning and I’m like “fair play”. It’s just another way to kill someone which is extremely preventable.
Condi’s, especially burning it seems, are part of the meta now and hopefully always will be. It’s definitely not Overpowered, it’s just strong.
Loving the replies on this XD (Yes this post is a complete joke don’t take it seriously in any way haha)
I took photo with my phone for a few reasons:
1: Don’t know how to do it a on mac (I’m pretty dumb)
2: It was faster to do it on my phone and then upload it here, or at least it felt like it’d be easier
.Nah bruh, you’re not dumb. Just a mac user.
hahahahaha xD so true. I only use Mac’s because I work as a studio engineer/producer so I need it for the software, any other situation and I’d be Windows all the way.
ROFL you guys are killing me with the play on words
Mac screen shot of entire screen:

Ah thank you! I suppose a quick google search would have given me the answer but now I don’t need to
Can we officially add the bug where, when we enter PvP, our pets are gone? The only fix atm is to spectate another Ranger who has his pets and then press K and select your pets from there.
It’s so irritating and is pretty important when you consider that pets are our class mechanic >_>
im have trouble shooter im ranger end im have no pet in pvp whij can u repair this in pvp thank u
I’m having trouble, can you please help me trouble shoot? I’m a Ranger and I have no pet in PvP. Is this possible to fix? Thank you.
Thats how your post should sound and now that I’ve decoded that, I ask you to look at the post directly above yours. Tells you how to fix it quite clearly.

Also, I wanted to point out, in that “Screen Shot”, that ranger has 3 stacks of burn and 100% hp. Burns need a buff.
He also has 2 stacks of might, better nerf WHaO again.
Well played, my Mac (everlasting) BETA client brother. Also, this screenshot was artsy as kitten.
Hahaha forever Beta.
