My issue has been resolved.

Apparently my bank has stopped the transaction following the advise of a “fraud prevention officer”.

I have requested them to make an exception.

Wanted to add that I am having the same problem as well.

I can see the message “Unfortunately an error has occurred. Please try again later” flash up for like 1 and half second in the background then I got redirected back to the first page.

I am using the same card that I used ever since I started playing and I have made quite a few purchase through out my game time.

Tempted to try using the PayPal option but I rather not risk it and go through all the refund process later if it is a server problem.

I said already more than once .. i really miss LS1 .. and i think LS2 is much worse since
i have absolutely no interest in replaying any of these instance so i don’t care really
if its replayable

New players do care. Without new players this game has no future because most people aren’t going to stick around long term. It’s ridiculous that they can’t play the past content. Also, for those of us really hardcore players that do stick around long term we might want to be able to replay content because it can be fun. Why take away something that already exists? It doesn’t make it more enjoyable it makes it less because it’s just going to disappear and leave very little impact on the world.

Just because you have no use for it doesn’t mean other people don’t.

If you think new players care a lot about old content, then you are sorely mistaken. Just take me and WoW for example because WoW is simply the biggest elephant in the room right now, I joined WoW during the Burning Crusade expansion because I like what they do with the game during that time not what they did 2 years ago, besides the obvious path where the gear treadmill is taking me. I do still go through some of the low lvl content when I am leveling but at soon as I hit the minimum lvl to proceed with the new content, I am off the old content and never gone back. When I do go back to try some of it, I usually be spending hours upon hours trying to get just 5 people to do it with me. This applies to massive majority of the players in the game as well, no one cares about the old content because they like what the developers are currently doing, not what they did years ago. Every time a new expansion is released for WoW, the old maps and major hub city becomes a ghost town, all the old dungeons and raids are abandoned with almost no players even think about doing them. If I am to go back to WoW now, I can be sure that almost no one is doing Cataclysm content anymore because the old content is not what they are interested in, hell, I am sure that I won’t be doing it as well because I never know what is there to like in the Cataclysm expansion, so why do I care about what I don’t know? All I care is I like what they are doing now and I will be involved more in what I liked.

Time exclusive content is also part of the attraction and unique features of an MMO, take WoW for example again, there are tons of time exclusive content and items that new players won’t be able to experience anymore like the zombie attack event, pre-Cataclysm Deathwing attack event, destruction and rebuilding of Orgrimmar, death of Cairne Bloodhoof, pre-flooding Thousand Needles, gates of Ahn-Qiraj, pre-Cataclysm Tanaris just to name a few, did the new players care? Hell no! If they are interested they can asked their guildies about what happened or read about it online. For Guild Wars 2, I instead prefer the Anet to make full use of the Orders and the libraries in game to enrich the game instead of asking players to refer to a wiki page. It is the constant change in the world that makes the different than the static, predictable world of single player game. If you try to take that away from an MMO, then what you are doing is limiting the potential and the appeal of the game, not helping it.

However, that did not rule out permanent content like Dry Top, I am expecting the game world will eventually expand to the old world like Cantha and Elona because that is not just extremely cool to return to the old world after hundred of years, it will create more content for players as well.

Also, I would not call the destruction of LA and the change from Tower of Nightmare little.

The Tower of Nightmare, the destruction of LA and the Breachmaker fight are all very impressive and are some of the best, greatest things I have experience in the game that have been done and can only be done with the Living World system.

It makes the world feel truly alive and it makes the world feel mysterious, unpredictable and ever changing unlike the static, never changing world of all MMO before.

I know about the complain from players that they came back to a whole different world totally clueless of what happened after stopping for a few months. My solution is that to give those librarians and Durmand Priory members some work and let them take down the details of events that happened in the game so that those returning players have something in game to refer to. There are more than enough libraries and Durmand Priory archives available through out the world for that, so why not give them some purpose and make them useful to players.

But instead of every 2 weeks, maybe extend the content to 3 weeks or 1 month so that enough time can be use for developing the next batch of content and bug fixing.

Coil Event Fail Toxicity

I admit to being dense on occasion, but I’m having difficulty finding this toxicity you’re talking about. A few complaints, sure, but I was expecting wall-to-wall battles between the two sides and what I’m mainly reading about is things like conversations about USB mice and the usual trash-talking between players. So ???

But the OP just gave you a load of screenshots. Try looking at the screenshots? There’s lots of toxicity there.

I also experienced some horrible messages for wanting to complete the Coiled Watch event. Threats, abuse etc.

One guy told me I should have been shot at birth. For what… for completing an event? What the hell, Guild Wars 2?! We’re better than this… come on.

Lol this is all so minor it’s ridiculous. Grow a backbone or get off the internet.

Right, making false report about someone and trying to get them banned from the game is “so minor”, so what is major to you? Track down the guy, kill him, his family and his dog and burn his house down?

SO can we even get an acknowledgement from the devs that this is a documented problem and a fix is being worked on?

I’d say you can take the fact that this hasn’t happened in 2 years translates to, “working as intended”. I’m guessing that since it IS one of the strongest #1 attack chains in the game, this drawback is the cost.

I will add that you shouldn’t hold your breath for this acknowledgement….

Do you know that Superior Rune of Afflicted 6th set bonus is still bugged even after 1 year I reported it? Yes, Anet is extremely sloppy and arrogant to actually own up to the flaw and glitches that is happening in the game.

As long as there is no public outcry, it is all rainbows and candies to them.

No other class has a leap and a cripple on auto attack either. That’s why it locks you, the animation frames of the leap portion of the attack doesn’t change based on distance. So even if you are right next to the target it still uses the animation frames of the furthest possible leap distance, and you can not dodge during any leap in this game. So, they either need to get rid of the leap all together (which would sorta suck in pvp because it’s nice being able to stick like glue to someone trying to run away) or figure out how to adjust the animation frames better based on distance. As an aside you can use a weapon swap at any time provided swap is not on cooldown to cancel the lockout if you reaaallly need to dodge immediately, not a perfect solution but it works for the time being.

As far as serpent strike goes, I can’t say I have noticed it always happening where you are out of position except when there is a lot of movement by the target. Any kind of immobilize or speed reduction should remedy not landing the attack.

A thief can cripple without getting locked, warrior can bleed and cripple and mesmer can inflict vulnerabilty and remove a boon without getting locked into animation and open themselves to attack. I would give up that leap for more mobility anytime, any day, any where because I can swap to other weapon if I need to pursue someone not to mention the ranger has other means to cripple, root and snare if needed.

And your suggestion for me to get Serpent Strike to work is to get myself attacked with root and snare? You can try it now because I can guarantee you will miss your target every time you use Serpent Strike even if the target is a stationary ranged mob or turret.

So, I’ve only done Teq twice, and both times I’ve run around doing those hylek machine thingies, and clearing mobs and stuff, but because I did it on a character with limited range ability, I don’t think I hit the actual dragon very often because I was hopping over waves and rezzing folks…anyway, long story short, even though I was there for the entire event, and did a bunch of stuff, I think I still only got bronze. I didn’t realize that it was only hitting the dragon that counted for this event.

Ok, let me explain the whole Teq event.

The event can be divided into 3 phases, phase 1 is the time when players have to man the turrets, kill off tendrils and defend various locations to prevent the turrets from getting overwhem, phase 2 is the defend phase when you have to defend the batteries (north, west, east) and mega laser and phase 3 or the burn phase is what happened if players successfully defended all the batteries and mega laser, the mega laser will fire taking away a big chunck of Teq’s health, stunning and weakening it allowing players to deal massive damage to it. Each phase will happen 3 times in the event but phase 1 can be shorten or even skipped if players are doing well is phase 3.

By participating in the event, you will get a daily chest containing an exotic Dragon Chest and the big treasure chest on the ground if the event succeeded and by participating and contributing to the 3 defend phase by defending the batteries and mega laser, you can get 3 more chests containing a blue, green and yellow Dragon Chest.

What we are talking about here is the north battery defense where you need to stomp out the grub holes on the ground or the whole place will be a huge explosion of poison rain caused by the grubs spawning from the holes and it is here where the problem lies. The game only calculate your contribution through the damage dealt to the mobs spawning but never take into account your contribution for stomping out the grub holes, so if you got occupied with stomping out the holes, the maximum reward level you will get is bronze and some times you even have the risk of not getting any participation reward, this problem is further amplified as of the reward chest is tied to the defend events. So if you miss out on 1 participation reward for defend phase, you lose 1 chest.

That is why the system is considered broken.

Gedekran (or should I say “Guild Spy”) — if I recall correctly, you were one of the individuals instigating the toxicity at Blix, so now that Blix is nerfed, you continue to harass farming players at Coil? Do you ever get tired of antagonzing players? Seriously, whatever happened to your concern to “finish” Blix? Are you content with Blix now? I suppose not, since you have moved on to instigating players at Coil (as per this thread).

Thanks for the effort of taking biased screenshots.

By instigating the toxicity you mean by trying to complete an event? By harassment you mean by not engaging the farmers in conversation while actually completing said event? Is there some new requirement of completing events that state you must explain why you wish to complete an event and if it’s not satisfactory, then the toxic abuse and harassment by those wishing to farm the failed event is justified?

I’ll say the same thing as I said about Blix. A player should not feel ostracized for wanting to complete an event.

wanting to succeed an event is just fine and you have the right to do so, but actively finding events and purposely completing them with malicious intent to create a toxic environment and to disrupt the gameplay of dozens of people who have in no way wronged you is rather immature to say the least.

How is actively seeking out events to complete them wrong? I have been doing that thing since the game launched and before Coiled Watch is even on the fail train’s schedule.

And by malicious intent, you mean the intent to see an event succeed?

If this is not toxic I don’t know what is.

The problem is bigger then the World Events. However you have identified a few actionable items.

1.) Destruction of a grub hole should increase the participation counter.

The problem is support actions in almost all events are not rewarded. It is a hard things to calculate participation outside of damage computationally. ArenaNet is aware of this issue they just at the moment can not think of a good way to solve the problem.

However without a understanding of how the system is currently designed it is hard for me to provide any useful feedback on this matter besides yes it need to be improved.

The few core factors I can think of is damage, heal, number boons granted, number of conditions removed and number of evasions. If the full score is 100, those will be 10 each since they do not require players to go out of their way to achieve.

Then number of players resurrected, number of event key item obtained/destroyed each max out at 20 as they require the players to actually actively going out of their way to make it happen

Then the participation time will be valued at 10 max for those taking part in the full event.

Those players that achieved 75+ scores will be rewarded with gold, silver will be at 50-74 and bronze will be 20-49. Those that score less than 20 will get no reward.

I think they need to improve some of the event works while they improve the reward system as well, as in no more safe spot to stand still and spam auto attack to win. If they only improve the reward system without rectifying the problems with auto attack spam while afk, it will be meaningless as people will continue to stack on 1 single spot afking while spamming auto attack.

The world event reward system is broken.

So, is this saying that all the players who only aim at Tequalt, are correct? I forgot to check what medal I got today when I shot Tequalt only after defence phases, very short period of time. I defended turrets and stomped the holes at north, and there partially forgot to shoot the mobs due searching the holes. Got the chest with usual content: blue, green, spoon.

This is actually about all the event in the game but extremely noticeable if you are doing north battery defense.

The current reward system needs a serious re-design and a new set of rules to weight and rank players contribution to an event because the current system that is based solely on the amount of damage dealt is not just broken but it is just stupid.

Take for example the north battery defense in Tequatl, I can go on stomping holes after holes after holes with absolute perfect timing and I get no more than a bronze reward ranking, hell I might even miss out on the reward totally if I didn’t do any attacks. But, if I throw all the important mechanics out of the window and started throwing grenades at the incoming mobs, I can get a gold easily while everyone is getting murdered by the poison rain from the grubs. I can also try to be a good player, switching from eastern battery to mega laser defense mid event because I see that the mega laser defense needs more people and completely miss out on the event reward later on because I don’t do enough damage.

Another example is afking at event like Claw of Jormag, I can just afk at the event and wait till the last burn 1 or 2 burn phase, goes in, throw a few grenades at it and get the same amount of reward as the person that spends 30mins trying to take down the boss. So why should anyone put any effort in it? I might as well just stand at the side afk or just spam auto attacks to get full rewards with 0 effort.

Players should be rewarded appropriately for what they contributed to the event, players standing still in 1 corner spamming auto attack should not be getting full reward, players joining in an event at the last minute should not be getting the same reward as players that is working on the event for the last 15mins and players that just goes around waving their weapons around with no regards to actual event mechanics definitely should not be getting full reward. There should be different value and weight given for what players are doing ranging from the amount of damage they do in the event, to the amount of heals, the amount of boons, numbers of revives and playing by the event mechanics that makes up the total final score of the player and the level of reward they are getting.

…..
And what do you base your stastitics on? Or is it just a gut feeling?
Because we’ve actually seen some stastistics on how 1500+ people feel about the new changes. And it was overwhelmingly negative……

That’s just not true. A bit more than 40% said they HATE it. While almost a 30% said a few tweaks would make them good. That is NOT overwhelmingly negative….that’s not even half negative (despite how you want to portray it).

Also, There is no real indication where those players polled came from, but if it’s from these forums, I wouldn’t think it’s at all representative of the overall player base.

41% hate it
12% dislike it
———
53% is more than half.

29% think that it is currently not OK (not OK is negative)

53% + 29% = 82%.

82% is a pretty solid majority. I would be surprised if any professional poll taker/calculator considered 82% to not be an overwhelming majority.

Now do those numbers mean all that much ? I think they are worth considering, but not to the degree that the face value of the numbers would seem to indicate.

Hmmm, I don’t know this poll existed, because if I know, I can definitely flip the result to the other side if you know what I am implying.

I heard that serpent strike’s issue is that it accounts for movement speed boosts, so it calculates you moving past your target rather than behind them.

I’d test whether removing Sigil of the Hunt fixes it, but my ranger is level 29 (so leveling isn’t a thing until bug fixes) and has Sigil of the Hunt locked into her third utility slot until she ‘unlocks’ it again.

I think you mean Signet of the Hunt, I already test with or without the signet, don’t see a difference, still places me out of attack distance and attack the air.

Now what can I do to get Anet’s attention about problems like this?

First, the sword auto attacks locks players into the attack animation for too long and too often

Us rangers have been dealing with that for…. two years.

Why do you think I use Greatsword?

Someone said that you could get around the problem by making it to where you don’t autoattack, but you actually press the button to attack. They said that it helps. I’m not sure exactly how. But, I’m not willing to destroy my 1 button and my finger just to be able to dodge. So, greatsword it is for me.

I tried that, not a practical solution, not going to going to risk RSI for that.

First, the sword auto attacks locks players into the attack animation for too long and too often, you can’t dodge, use skill or cancel out of it while getting locked into the animation, leaving players open to attacks. No any other class are getting punished this way for going melee.

Second, Serpent Strike rolls everywhere but around the target. Every time I use it, it places me out of melee attack range then proceed to lock me into the attack animation leaving me wide open to attacks, again.

If people actually stop hating and start think about the trend of MMO for the past 10 years, they will understand why the test came out the way it is.

Every MMO since WoW are designed for mouth breathers and face rollers, all they ever do in an MMO is run up to the NPCs with the big shiny quest marker on their head, skip every dialog as fast as they can, then expect to auto path to the area where they need to go to complete the quest. Anything outside of that have 0 importance to them, they don’t stop to think about their next step and they definitely don’t stop to admire the great scenery.

The dev could have hid a message in the NPC dialog that tells the players that they have won $5000 just for reading the dialog with detailed steps to claim the prize and they can be assured no one will even claim it.

ANet, the reason you have no player retention

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aicus.3174

Aicus.3174

Unfortunately this is just how GW2 is. It cannot retain players and there’s no way to fix that. So my suggestion to Anet is go back to the standalone expansion pack model. You’re not gonna keep this game alive with the current business model because it will never have enough player retention. Changes like this are almost death throes. You can’t keep this up.

Most of the players I’ve talked to actually WANT expansion-style content much more than they want Living Story type stuff. People want new zones and new weapon types. They want new professions. They want Tengu as a playable race. Personally, I want skritt as a playable race, but I think it’s safe to say that that’s a longshot, especially with the direction the game is currently going.

While a fair share of people complain about Living Story, I actually liked it a lot because Anet can do some really cool stuff with it like the Battle for Lion’s Arch where you have hundreds of players fighting the Marionette in LA and then Scarlet on the Breachmaker. It adds to the feeling that the world is alive and things are constantly happening and changing the world. You just can’t do things like this as often with expansions.

So what that I might miss some of the story when I am not around? The world around me certainly don’t wait for me to if I decided to lock myself up in my room for 1 week. That is exactly the feel that I get with Living Story.

So where did you get the numbers that those who dislike the patch outnumbered those that like the patch by 2 to 3 times?

My whole guild got no problems with it, most people I met think it is OK with rooms for improvement, my friends got nothing to complain about, my friend’s guild is cool with it as well, so maybe it is actually the other way around?

Well, you can read the forums here and see more dislikes for the update just by skimming through the threads.

But let’s go with math. At this point in this thread I read 21 different names. 6 of them are Pro-patch, 14 of them are Con-patch, 1 is N/A.

That means there are over 2x as many posts here that don’t like the patch, compared the posts that are white knighting Anet’s decision.

Also keep in mind the title of this thread and realize the results will be skewed toward the Pro-patch people. In other threads its all torches and pitchforks and the amount of “we don’t like this patch” people far outweigh the people who think it’s a new and exciting experience.

People that are happy with the game usually don’t come on forum to post, they just continue to enjoy the game. I only come to the forum few times in the 2 years I am playing, first time to report a problem on my friend’s account, second time to report a bug on the Superior Rune of Afflicted death nova last year, third time to suggest a change to world boss event because I am fed up with people spamming auto attack and afking.

I wouldn’t even know about all these complains if it is not for me coming to the forum to check up my own thread on patch day.

The forum is the place for feedback. Statistically speaking, the forum is a percentile slice of the greater player base as a whole. Therefore its logical to extrapolate player response on forums as representative of the greater whole, with of course a certain margin of error.

Were there no value to forum members’ feedback, there would be no reason to operate said forum. Given that most games today operate discussion and balance forums, its logical to conclude that forum feedback is valuable as a development tool, and is representative of the overall player base.

To claim that “negative feedback” is unfair or unwarranted is laughably naive, and to also claim that those who post said feedback somehow are non-representative of the greater whole is also foolish. The reason I claim irony in your post is that every single word of it, according to your own logic, applies to you. And for you to be unaware of how forums represent player populations yet still be able to comment about you and the cheerleaders somehow representing the majority is downright silly.

What I see so far is that the forum is for people to bash the dev for doing whatever they don’t like, for example bashing the dev for killing QD champ train, Blix event spam, making key farming harder and unpleasant and basically everything that farmers think are going to affect their profit.

There are some constructive feedback and disvussion but those are scarce.

For Jormag, phase 1, you get your pea shooter, dodge falling rocks, dodge waves of ice, and get feared until you knock down the wall. That is the mechanic of the boss and everyone does it. For phase 2, you get your flamethrower run around and destroy ice crystals so the golems can get through and weaken Jormag. That is also the mechanic of the boss and most people do it.

We don’t need a “rework” that introduces ridiculous bullet sponges into the event.

None of what you said actually happened at all in Claw of Jormag Phase 1 besides the part where people will grab a bazooka.

90% of the prople doing the event will grab a bazooka, stand in 1 corner and proceed to spam auto attack until the wall is down. Those that actually decent enough to carry a bomb up to the wall to detonate it while dodging all the attacks can be counted with 1 hand.

Now that I think of it, simply removing the bazooka from that fight will solve all the issue with Claw of Jormag Phase 1.

World boss like Claw of Jormag, Shatterer, golem near Old Sledge Site, Shadow Behemoth and others need some overhaul in their behaviour, attacks and location design I order to make people actually play the events instead of just stand in 1 location, spam auto attack, afk and collect loot.

This is especially obvious in events like Claw of Jormag, Shatterer and the golem near Old Sledge Site where people will just stand in a corner, set auto attack then just wait to collect loots.

For the case of Claw and Shatterer, the solution could simply be making the boss attacks hitting all the area with high player concentration and spawning groups of champs and elites on them instead of just the cannon area.

For the golem world boss, just make sure that there is no safe spot where plsyers can afk ans still be in attacking range, this includes the steps leading up to the platform.

As for Shadow Behemoth, make the portals tougher so that it tskes more than 5 people to destroy. Also the portals should spawn in the area180 degrees in front of the boss instead of going all the way to the back of the boss. The portal too should spawn more mobs more often faster.

Another world boss I think need some tweaking is the great jungle wurm. The boss used to be fun and require some effort where people actually need to stop the husk from reaching the boss, now the boss is dead before the first husk even has a chance to get near.

And then when you make them too hard, they become abandoned until a super-guild comes in and prevents players from joining the map, like Teq and Wurm.

Anet really needs to find a balance between the two extremes.

I am asking for tweaks and fixes that make players to spread out more evenly and actively engage in the events and fights instead of stand in 1 corner or 1 safe spot, spam auto attack and afk.

That is very different from asking for the content to be made into Tequatl or Three Headed Wurm level fight though I am doing Tequatl everyday with random people on random map with 100% success rate so far.

Also, I hate TTS right to the core because of their exclusive and elitist attitude.

There’s really no point in fixing them to make them non-AFK-able without redesigning the entire reward/contribution system.

Take Jormag for example. Sure, you can sit on the side and be safe, but all it takes is a few hits on Jormag to get credit. By abusing this flaw, you can participate in the actual encounter for only a few seconds then run off and go AFK somewhere safe while waiting for the event to end, at which point you can go and collect your free loot. Likewise, you can do this in reverse by showing up at the last second and getting in a good hit.

Without a vastly improved contribution system, there’s simply no point in putting in the time to remove these safe spots. Doing so would make it slightly more interesting for those that already do it legitimately, but it wouldn’t really affect much else, unless they also greatly increased the difficulty. There really needs to be something like a scoreboard at the end where you need to be within a certain percentage of the average contribution to get credit. Contribution would be based on the special mechanics events may have and combat stats like damage dealt, damage taken, outgoing healing, interrupts, revives and evades.

That would be the best but for now the events need a temporary band aid fix that punishes those people for being lazy by failing it.

For as long as Claw of Jormag is.. they could at least reward us with a bit more than just “60 copper” for a long fight. I mean Tequatl gives at least 1 gold and isn’t a lvl 80 encounter.

-_-

Tequatl is also a lot more difficult, requires more effort and coordination to beat while Claw of Jormag is a joke where people just take a bazooka, stand on a corner and spam auto attack all the way to victory. If that changes, then I can see the justification for better loot.

Just because it isn’t “harder” (tequatal is just as stupid easy when you have enough people who know the fight. Static, scripted content negates the need to think) doesn’t mean it doesn’t take forever.

Event training on cursed shore gives far better loot for the time invested and it doesn’t need to drop my frame rate to single digits to do it.

You already said it youself, you need enough people that actually kno the Tequatl fight to beat it, throw 250 ppl of newbs in it and they will still fail it miserably. For Claw, you can throw 50 newbies into the fight and they will beat it like a pro.

Even with vets, people still fail Tequatl consistently 5 mins into the fight when they fail the first battery defense. It happens and especially frequent in maps where most people are expecting to get carried and get free loot. For Claw, unless no one bothers to do it, there is 0 possibility to even fail it.

Bug still not fix.

It is annoying that I have to teleport every time this happens in the world and dungeons but when this happens in fractals, which did for a few times, it is downright infuriating and game breaking because there is nothing I can do to break free.

Also, when I try to press Arcane Power around the same time I cast Phoenix, sometimes my Phoenix goes on it’s full cooldown but doesn’t actually cast.

The same problem occur with my dual pistol Engineer as well if I cast 2 types of shot ie: Static shot to Blowtorch, almost at the same time

I reported this bug months ago before I go on a long time off, yesterday I went back into the game and found that the same bug is still there!

The bug is with the nova, when the nova killed any mobs as you go down, you got revived but with the downed condition is not removed when you rally causing you unable to move.

All attacks and skills works.

Seriously, if the living stories is getting in the way of bug fixing, please update living story once per month or even once per 45 days.

Need confirmation if the below skills and traits are working as intended.

- Explosive shot not benefiting from Shrapnel(15% chance for explosion to cause bleed) and Explosive Powder (10% more damage from explosion). Tested on the dummy in Heart of the Mist and see no gain in damage or numbers of bleed applied when traits are selected.

- Rocket turret’s Explosive Rocket having a smaller AOE than the rocket turret auto attack. Can be tested clearly on the Practice Dummy in Lion’s Arch.

Account and serial number "deactivated"?

Aicus.3174

You didn’t read my message. If you have no characters attached to your account you can leave the option bout charactername blank. You very likely have characters on your account so when testing it you need to have it filled in.

Even if the initial answer from support isn’t helping, please keep telling them that. Those are the people that can fix this. If you feel you are stuck you can post his ticketnumber here so that an arenanet official can look into the matter.

Apologies, has been quite stressful today for me working with my friend to find and present evidence to proof that the account does belong to him.

It make sense that if I have character in my account, I cannot leave the character name blank. But I do pity those poor souls that forgot their character name and failed to reset their password after a long absence from the game.

Aicus.3174

Now this is very stressful for me and my friend. It is like the support does not even know how their system works.

The support actually suggested my friend to update his contact info because for some reason the email provided by my friend for reset does not match the one tied to the account. And how is he suppose to update his account info if he cannot even log in to his account at the first place?

Out of frustration, I actually tried to reset the password of my account since my friend keep getting an error when trying to reset and as it turns out, players can’t reset their account password if they do not provide the name of 1 of their in game character, which is impossible for my friend to have because he don’t even get a chance to play the game since launch due to the stupid launcher unable to download anything from the server. Why ArenaNet thinks it is a good idea to use in game character name as a form of verification is beyond me.

He is now about to give up recovering his account now and worst of all, I can’t do the recovery on behalf of him.

Hi again. Your friend needs to keep talking to support.

The question bout the charactername can be left blank if you don’t have any characters.

Your friend should update the ticket, ask them to change the emailadres AND provided proof of ownership (the product key is the best way to do so).

It looks like all your friend got was the automated response. Update it again and a support person will look into this.

It doesn’t work that way, I actually tried to reset my own account and I too get an error if I leave the character name blank.

I am very sure it is not an automated reply, possible it is one of those scripted answer reply though. It is no use providing them the product serial because the support just reject my friend’s request to reset the password on the reason that the email tied to the serial does not match and proceed to ask my friend to change his contact detail.

I have since forwarded the registration email as proof that the account does belong to the email provided by my friend and have not gotten any reply yet.

My friend is currently having a problem with his account become unusable after long period of inactivity.

He initially purchased the game on launch but never has a chance to play at all due to the client unable to download the files from the server. Now that he has purchased a new computer, he decided to give it another try and discovered that his account no longer exist and the purchase serial number no longer usable.

Help needed urgently as he never has a chance to play the game at all since he made the purchase at launch.

New bot report rules.

There will always be room for doubt, the botters could simply said they are too lazy to reply and they should not be banned for not replying to someone ot they can argue that it is not an offence to get multiple people to play on 1 account through an extended period of time without logging out at the same location doing the same thing. It is all down to the judgement of the moderators and the person who make the report.

When I make a report, I do it because I am sure the character is a bot and I do spend time making sure that it is a bot, I just don’t spend time chatting with it.

New bot report rules.

in Account & Technical Support

Aicus.3174

Yesterday night, I notice a new line of text in red when making bot report which said that bot report has to be backed up with chat log and I risk my account getting banned if I make a report without a chat log to back it up.

Do the moderating team really think this is reasonable especially in my case last night, I am reporting a teleporting resource collector bot that appears for like 3 sec then disappeared near Fort Trinity?

In the past month, I reported no less than 10 bots all without a chat log to backup the report simply because it is common sense that no human can play a game continuously running on a fixed path at the same location for 10 hours straigth performing the same attack pattern over and over again.

Besides, it is not rocket science to make a bot that replies to player whispers with a set of preset reply. Such bot already existed since the days of Ragnarok Online, so how is it reasonable to require and rely solely on chat log to prove whether a player is botting or not?

I reported the bots I run into all the time because I care about the game but I never have a chat log to back up any of those reports, now I have to put my own account at risk of getting banned just to make a bot report. The way I see it, the new rules are just red tape to deter players from making reports.

GW2 Downloader Reset

Aicus, Closing the downloader is fine. The reason you had to redownload all 225k files was because the gw2.dat was corrupted by the power loss you experienced. Closing the downloader will save the files properly then exit.

Actually, I exited the downloader during the second download to test whether it saves my progress or not. I just let it download like 200ish MB, exit it, then launch it again. The conclusion I made from that is it did not saves my progress. So I don’t want to take the risk.

Anyway, I managed to fix the problem as I updated on the post above. So all is good for now.

Thanks everyone for the help.

so what happened Aicus did it finish? start over? your post was 4hrs ago curious to know what happened?

Sorry for not updating.

I managed to fix it by turning off my router, then do a ipconfig/flushdns in the command prompt.

The downloader automatically downloads the remaining 2 files after I turn my router back on.
