[Suggestions] Please Bring Back these Gem Stores Items

Sport Sunglasses https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sport_Sunglasses have not been in the game at any point since the Wardrobe system was added (in April of 2014). They have been gone so long the last time they were sold was under the Town Clothing system (anyone else remember that?)

I am sure a lot of people, particularly those who did not know about or use the Town Clothing system, would have been happy to have them as an armor skin even back then. Now that we have had the wardrobe system for, as people in this thread have pointed out, for over three years now, I really think it’s silly to have never had the Sport Sunglasses on offer again.

Please bring the Sport Sunglasses back. I’m sure the only reason they didn’t sell better was because they were limited to Town Clothing only the last time they were offered. And this game is in desperate need of more eyewear options. Anyone who wants their character to have glasses has to go to a very narrow selection right now, and it makes those characters all look kind of samey. So please bring the Sport Sunglasses back, offered as armor this time, for the first time ever. I believe they are the last and only skin item never offered since the release of the Wardrobe.

Account Bound Recipes

I wonder if any devs have eyes on this topic. While this is the newest active discussion about this idea, I have seen this topic discussed for years now. Making recipes that come from items unlock on an accountwide basis instead of this old archaic character by character basis would make that system fit better with all the other systems in the game, almost all of which are accountwide systems now.

But it seems like this suggestion has been lost on them for years. Which is why I am really curious as to whether or not any devs have had eyes on this topic.

Account Bound Recipes

I’ve supported the idea of accountwide recipe unlocks for a long time now. With everything else they have changed from character specific unlocks to accountwide unlocks, recipes are one of the last things that isn’t an accountwide unlock yet.

And it’s just silly that they haven’t changed these recipes into accountwide unlocks yet. It doesn’t fit with their design for them to just be character unlocks anymore. It doesn’t make sense. So consider this post another voice of 100% support of making these recipes into accountwide unlocks. With all the recipes in the game now, I think this is getting more important than ever before.

Wide Rim Glasses (Unavailable since December 17, 2013) http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wide_Rim_Glasses

Sport Sunglasses (Unavailable since December 17, 2013) http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sport_Sunglasses

It’s February 26, 2016.

These items have never been for sale since the April 2014 Feature Pack added the Wardrobe system. They had been “Town Clothes” before, but were converted to armor skins that work in the Wardrobe system at that time.

As someone who has characters who wear glasses, reasonable-looking choices for glasses are very limited right now.

I don’t really ever see people wearing these skins, and practically everyone I talk to has never even heard of these two items. Probably because the last time they were sold, they were Town Clothes items, and there was no Wardrobe system to store them without taking up a ton of space.

In a game like Guild Wars 2, where cosmetics are arguably the biggest part of the endgame, having a few decent choices for eyewear would go a long way.

Certainly if anyone at ArenaNet wears glasses, they can appreciate that this is a pretty big limitation.

It’d be easy to implement, since it’s already in game and set up to be armor. And I think people would be excited to have more reasonable-looking choices for eyewear. The selection is so limited right now, it’s not even funny.

I would like to see this item changed back as well. I am using the Queen Bee on one of my Sylvari, trying to give them a warm, colorful, tropical feel. It doesn’t quite work with the extra frosty bits.

Not easier, equal. We should all have an equal chance to get things in this game.

It was nice to read your idealistic writing, but you can’t make anything skill based and give everyone an equal chance by the definitions your posts strongly suggest, so I have to disagree with even though the spirit of your post comes from a good place.

Your entire argument is the core validation for catering to the lowest denominator, which doesn’t work in the current scenario.

You are putting the choice between the disabled person being able to enter on equal ground to get an optional shiny, and the fun of good jumper being rewarded for his ability.

TL;DR Although we should be nice and constructive like OP says, OP’s views are idealistic and are inapplicable to the current issue. Its not easy to build equal encounters, let alone equal encounters requiring or rewarding skill. And there will always be someone who is excluded, so a line must be drawn somewhere.

I read 3 things from the OP:

1. OP isn’t calling for anything to change, just saying that we shouldn’t be so harsh on the people who come here and say they can’t do the thing.
2. OP seems frustrated that people are treating others this way. Particularly around Christmas.
3. (I agree with you) OP is being idealistic. But maybe Christmas is the time for inclusion and kindness, and the whole rest of the year can be for more exclusive things. Maybe idealism is okay at Christmas. OP did seem to focus on the whole Christmas aspect all throughout his post.

People in this thread have pointed out that some players look forward to Christmas all year. Maybe this is the one time we can lean more toward inclusion than exclusion.

We can argue the merits of where to draw that line in content in general. But this isn’t “content in general.” It’s Christmas holiday content. A lot of people seem to agree that it’s a time of year that should be a bit more inclusive and understanding.

I agree that we can’t make everything usable by everyone all the time. But GW2 has a really wide fanbase. Christmas is supposed to be for everyone. Ingame we’re even including the orphans in all the hard-to-reach places by seeking them out to give them Christmas presents. So it seems to fit with the “inclusion” theme as well.

it saddens me to see so many people support exclusionary content in a holiday event.

I think this is OP’s sentiment for Christmas, and what this thread is really all about.

I agree with OP’s sentiment.

I don’t think he’s calling to make getting the item any easier, just saying that we shouldn’t be so harsh on the people who come here and say they physically can’t do the thing because of how they are in the real world.

Y’know, cos Christmas.

Actually it doesn’t look like OP is suggesting any change at all to how you actually get the item. Looks like he’s just disappointed that some people don’t seem to care about the feelings of people who just want to be included.

I personally think there should be alternative options for how to get it. All challenging options, but at least a few different ones so more people have a better chance of not hitting a roadblock due to disability etc. But that’s just me. I don’t think I have seen anyone in this thread asking for the thing to be given to them on a silver platter, despite some of the critics seeming to suggest that in this thread. Did they even read the whole thing?

@OP: I think the people who claim not to understand this are actually few and far between. Not even sure if any of them are serious or just trolls. I think it’s really easy to get behind the idea of not being mean to people just for speaking up that they don’t feel included. Particularly at Christmas.

I also have this issue. A lot of friends and guildies spent a lot of time and effort to get me the Preserved Queen Bee for my birthday. I want it back please.

In looking around to double check what the item’s specific name was, I also discovered that it is apparently missing from the Black Lion Trading Post as well. I searched for ‘bee’ with no luck, then for ‘preserved,’ again with no luck. So it looks like the item was somehow removed entirely from the game. Please put it back so I can wear my bee effect again.

[PvE]Dungeon Meta-Blast Finishers

in Necromancer

Posted by: AirimirOfGondor.9081

AirimirOfGondor.9081

They addressed that specifically in the livestream. We’re not getting a bucketful of blast finishers or fire fields, but Blood Magic is being reworked into a support line. One example given was to give allies lifesteal. They know the problems, and are going to give us a necromancer-themed way, rather than just a ton of blasts. We don’t know specifically what, but they did say specifically that it wouldn’t just be blasting fire fields.

Thanks. The summary I read of the livestream made no mention of this, so I didn’t know they were even aware that necro has a problem playing in PvE dungeon meta groups. It is good to know that their hearts are in the right place – that they want to make the necro more desirable in the dungeon meta.

However, from what I have been reading (and I could well be wrong about this – I’m trying to educate myself about the new information as much as possible), it sounds like they want to give the necro more of the kinds of support options that are not needed/wanted/desired in the high end PvE dungeon meta. Some of the most important core things that makes a class desirable in that meta are still completely missing.

Again, I know their hearts are in it to try to make the necro work in that meta, but I think they might not understand what is important in that meta or why it’s important for that gamemode. The new elite spec looks interesting, but I don’t think people will be clamoring for a necro for their dungeon group if the elite spec goes live as it was presented to us today.

Thing is, I / We don’t even want bucketloads. I personally just want the DS2 to be a blast. Or add a reliable blast to one of the core Necros abilities. Just ONE.

I don’t think the shouts should be blast finishers, but I think some of our existing skills should be. Warhorn 4 and Axe 3 respecively.

These are also very reasonable and good ideas. Right now it’s just very hard for the necro to bring what a PvE dungeon meta group wants. Every little bit would help, but the necro has a lot of catching up to do in the dungeon meta regard. I think we just want something (anything) to make high end meta dungeon groups have a legitimate use for a necro.

From the stream notes and what I watched (the last 1/3), it looks like they’re aiming for non combo based support with things like Vampiric Aura. If its done right that will be pretty useful in teams since no setup will be required for Necro support. This allows people to keep the offense going without retreating for water fields and the like.

They’re also playing around with Transfusion reviving downed allies (hopefully they mean the heal affects downed players). That could be a big deal for Blood Magic too.

That sounds interesting, and I’m going to put aside for a minute what they have historically thought was a fair or good amount for the numbers on vampiric styled things in this game. Even if this helped in competitive PvP style modes, I’m not sure this would make people want a necro in their PvE meta dungeon group any more than they do right now. And obviously, they shouldn’t be building the elite spec around any one type of content, so it’s good that this might be good for other gamemodes, but this thread is highlighting a specific thing the necro lacks in the dungeon context – namely, desirability – and I’m having trouble seeing how the elite spec as it was presented today helps improve their standing in that regard.

[PvE]Dungeon Meta-Blast Finishers

in Necromancer

Posted by: AirimirOfGondor.9081

AirimirOfGondor.9081

Problem Identified:

The necromancer class is less desirable in the PvE dungeon meta than many classes.

Solution Proposed:

Allow the new necromancer Elite Reaper specialization’s shouts to be blast finishers.

Pros:

This would allow the necromancer to work with other classes and their fields in a way that would make them more desirable in PvE dungeon meta teams.

Cons:

Necromancer already has a lot of catching up to do before they will be highly desired in the PvE dungeon meta. This proposal may not be enough on its own, but I think it is a good start in that direction.

Detailed write-up:

It looks like even with the new necromancer’s “Reaper” Elite Specialization the necro will still likely be less desirable for the dungeon PvE meta than many other classes.

One thing the necro lacks is proper access to blast finishers. Blast finishers are very important in the dungeon PvE meta. They can help generate might when used on fire fields. If the necro did not have access to fire fields on its own but did have blast finishers, it would make the necro work very well alongside classes that can lay down fire fields.

The new shouts for the Reaper seem okay on their own from a PvE dungeon meta desirability view, but if they were blast finishers it might put necro in a good place to be more welcome in that content than they are now.

Loud noises are already blast finishers. Some examples:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Call_to_Arms (Warrior WH 5)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Call_of_the_Wild (Ranger WH 5)

So it’s not unheard of or unreasonable within the game to have a loud noise like a shout act as a blast finisher, either from a lore or gameplay perspective.

It seems like in the PvE dungeon meta it would be very hard for the necro to earn a place no matter what, but if somehow people thought this proposal was too strong then perhaps it could be rolled out in a new elective necro trait reading “Your shouts are now blast finishers.” This could either be folded in with another trait or could be one on its own. I think it should be core functionality for the shouts themselves though, because the necro does have a lot of catching up to do before they will be more welcome in the PvE dungeon meta.

Conclusion:

By making necromancer shouts into blast finishers, the necromancer will be able to work with teammates in a way that will make players more willing to welcome a necromancer into their PvE dungeon meta group. This may not be enough on its own to make the necromancer desired in the PvE dungeon meta, but at least it would be a good step in the right direction.

Thoughts?

PC "Falling" Cries No Longer Play

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

AirimirOfGondor.9081

The falling scream was, and still is important. It showed that our character is not perfect and awesome all the time.

The concept of player-character powerlessness and its importance both to character growth and to feeling heroic was discussed recently by the games analysts at Extra Credits.

Link is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IyPc5nw0Wk (the most relevant part starts about 3 minutes 20 seconds in)

It feels to me like Anet is trying to remove elements from the game that show the player character as anything less than infallible. This also happened when the personal story was changed, that the parts that concerned the player character’s failures were removed. Even though they are now re-adding the Greatest Fear plotline, the fact that they were willing to remove it in the first place shows this new trend at Anet.

Having an almighty, all-powerful player character is no fun for me. Character flaws and weaknesses, and more specifically, how that character overcomes those weaknesses are what make a character compelling.

Now that we know that Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns is on the horizon and is going to be packed with all kinds of new content, I’m very worried that they might not update how these recipes are handled to fit with the accountwide unlock setup they use for almost everything else these days.

Heart of Thorns will probably contain a ton of new recipes, and could possibly be when they finally raise the cap for Jeweler and Chef to 500. That would make the need for this accountwide recipe update more important than ever.

I think now is a good time to revisit how these recipes are handled, before the release of Heart of Thorns, to ensure that all the new and returning players aren’t confused trying to find recipes they already unlocked once, and so all players can have the best experience possible.

I just wanted to provide an update since it’s been a while.

  • We are currently working to restore the Greatest Fear storyline to the live game. I can’t provide a release date at this point.
  • In addition to restoring the Personal Story steps to their original order we’re making some minor improvements where possible (e.g. recording new VO or updating certain conversations, etc.).

We’ll provide additional details closer to release. Thanks much for your patience.

This is amazing and fantastic news!

I’m going to tell everyone I know that while they still have to wait to play personal story, the wait time is no longer “forever.”

Once this fix is actually live, I think I can start recommending GW2 to new players again as well. This was a really glaring problem, and I’m so happy it’s finally getting fixed! I’m sure everyone will be excited to find out this is getting fixed now!

Thank you Bobby Stein!

Most of us don’t even want the skins back, we just want to play the kittening content that is already made.

I agree with this sentiment in particular. The people I have talked to don’t talk about wanting a reward, they just talk about wanting their Infinite Continue Coin they bought to do something reasonable – namely, for it to do anything at all – which would be more than it has done for over 1 year and 4 months now.

I don’t think the people buying the ICC could have reasonably been expected to believe it would not be something they would use again for well over a year. I think the existence of the ICC suggested to them that they would be able to go to the SAB from time to time, so they bought it based on that reasonable belief. And they shelled out a good 600 gems on that reasonable belief.

Just adding the Home Portal Stone’s warping code to the Infinite Continue Coin would give the ICC a reasonable function, and after so long I think it is just the solution to placate an loyal playerbase who spent that money so long ago and have had nothing to show for it for all the time since. This is not a small, reasonable period of “just a few months” anymore.

And since this is not a call for any new assets (no new sound, art, levels, writing, or design) and just a call for a modest change to an existing item (add the Home Portal Stone’s code to the ICC to make it clickable, change “destination” from “home instance” to “Super Adventure Lobby,” Save & Close), I don’t think that’s unreasonable.

Because at some point the ICC has to stop being functionless. And I think those who bought it think 1 year 4 months is a far too long and far too unreasonable time, given the cost and the reasonable expectation it created when they decided to make and sell it.

April 1, 2013: Super Adventure Box (first release)
September 3, 2013: Super Adventure Box: Back to School (second release – ICC is marketed and sold during this time)
October 1, 2013: The next major release happened and the SAB was closed down.

February 2, 2015. ICC has been functionless since October 1, 2013. February 2, 2015 is not an end date for it being functionless, this is merely the current date. No end date is in sight.

1 year and 4 months plus goes beyond a reasonable wait time.

This isn’t about the SAB. It is not about whether the SAB is good it bad. It is not about why SAB is better or worse than anything else.

This is about the Infinite Continue Coin. About the reasonable expectation that accompanied it when it was sold – The reasonable expectation created by prior release schedules and by virtue of the ICC’s very existence (and price tag). And about those loyal consumers who did not have that reasonable expectation met. I think giving those consumers this small mercy would go a long way.

how can new GW2 players enjoy a story driven game with a broken and fractured story, please can we get some more infomation on this issue.

I had heard so many good things about the other two fears, I couldn’t wait to try them out.

Now I can’t.

ANet, I love ya, but what are you DOING?

I recently had someone tell me that they were buying Whispers Order armor on one character to unlock the skin, to then use on a separate character. When I asked “why not just get it on the character you want to use it on directly?” They replied with something to the effect of “This character is only an ‘honorary’ member of the Order of Whispers for right now. I have their whole story all planned out but I won’t actually be playing through it until/unless they fix the personal story.” This person can’t even bring themselves to play personal story, even though they really want to, because of how personal story is right now. This is bad.

For the sake of not confusing new players, or not creating old players who feel that way about the game, reintroducing Greatest Fear and making the story make sense again should be an important fix.

[Sugg.]Make Recipes From Items Account Unlock

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: AirimirOfGondor.9081

AirimirOfGondor.9081

One toon holds consumables one toon hold insignias one toon holds inscriptions no need for buying the same things again and again let alone 3 times. This works whither your talking about recipes from events like Superior Sigil of Torment or straight up crafting recipes like Zojja’s. Granted you are going to have to pretty much decide that those toons will not be deleted, ever, but that is still cheaper then buying the same recipes over and over.

This is one solution, but it is a very roundabout and awkward solution. And, especially since many players have already consumed these recipes, it is a solution people would have to do from the start to get it to work right. For pretty much everyone playing right now, it is probably too late to do this as they have these recipes spread across multiple characters already. I agree that your solution works, but it is probably too late for much of the playerbase to do it that way now.

That’s not very intuitive, and would probably be confusing for new players, something Anet has expressed they want to avoid.

I don’t think my suggestion is harmful in any way, but it would be a good improvement for old, returning, and new players alike. And with an expansion on the way, now is the time to get things into shape to make sure all those users are having a good experience and to retain them as players.

Perhaps, you mean Account-wide rather than Account-bound?

Wow, you are right. I edited everything for clarity. I absolutely mean double click on the recipe scroll once to consume it and to unlock the recipe for your entire account. I hope my edits clarify that.

Why would this push sales for crafting licences?

For some, myself included, the thought of needing to rebuy recipes just because I want, say, Leatherworker on another character, seems out of place since Account Wallet and making things accountwide unlocks has been such a big focus of the game postlaunch.

You’d still have to level up the crafts on the other characters.

I actually enjoy crafting a lot but I think the fact that these recipe items are per character is exceptionally prohibitive. Sometimes it is hard to remember which character used/knows which one from a consumable scroll, other times it just seems like a lot of laurels or other rare/time-gated/valuable resources to buy them again.

I know some people think “well tough luck, put up with it if you care.” But that’s the point. I won’t put up with rebuying all the recipes and that is literally the only thing keeping me from buying these additional crafting licenses. So at least I am one real-world example of lost profit.

Plus, if you’re going for filling out the recipes on every character, you’d still have to unlock all of those discovery ones. I know they can’t go anyway since that’s how you level… but they’d still need to be rediscovered.

Again, as someone who actually enjoys crafting, I wouldn’t mind rediscovering them. Besides, the fact that they are discoverable means my characters all have absolute uninhibited access to make that item whenever I so choose.

But where there is an item recipe in play, suddenly all those other factors I listed above come into play. If these recipes unlocked for the entire account, though, that problem would cease to exist.

Still, not against the idea at all, just not seeing the logic behind some of your reasoning. For those with the same craft on multiple characters, it’ll be a time saver.

It’s not just a time saver. It also makes me, a longtime player, feel like I am not punished for spreading my crafts across multiple characters, two per character, which was the max at the time and did not seem like something that would change.

I know someone who maxed all the crafts on one character and who switches. They can make Ascended armors of all types much more easily because they only needed to buy the recipe for laurels once instead of up to three times. They also never need to scramble across all their characters to try to find which character knows which recipe. Their experience is different from mine, and that’s something that makes me (and my wallet) much less interested in the additional crafting licenses while things remain as they are.

I know Anet is a business and they have a bottom line, and I’m trying to help them with that. I’m floating this idea because I’m guessing I’m not the only person out there who feels this way. And it could wind up making the additional crafting license much more popular and helping their bottom line that much.

I feel like everyone would benefit in that situation. Happier players spending more money happily? Sounds like a win-win to me.

EDIT: Great. Now that it’s merged into MegaTopic it’ll get lost with all the noise.. That’s just effin’ great.

I was very sad to find out that this got merged as well. My thread was about a very specific problem with a very specific gemstore item. I hope the discussion on this idea will continue here though.

Even though it becomes so very easy to ignore here. I suspect this is the death of this idea. Which is a shame because I tried to look at things from every angle with this idea and make a modest and reasonable proposal that should make many very happy without making many (if any) unhappy at all.

Yes, the item is related to SAB, but this problem I have identified is very specifically that an item bought in the gemstore has had no purpose for 1 year and 4 months now, and only functioned for, at best, just under 1 month before that.

The problem is that people who bought the ICC did not likely expect it to be worthless for 1 year and 4 months. Its very existence suggested that we would be able to use it lots. The problem is that after so long it becomes unreasonable that people have not been able to use it for so long.

The very premise that the ICC exists at all suggested that it would be useable at regular intervals, and those who bought it reasonably relied on that reasonable expectation.

That reasonable expectation turned out not to be in line with the reality of things here, which is why so many seem upset about this. I think that is a fair stance and certainly not overreaching the norms of sanity or the like.

If this is legitimately, as you say, “craptastic joke content… at the BOTTOM of the list of priorities” then ANET had no business selling an “infinite” continue coin in the gemstore for 600 gems, for about a month’s worth of usefulness.

I could not have put this better myself. The existence of the ICC created a reasonable expectation, and that reasonable expectation turned out not to be the same as their plan. And at 600 gems over a year and a quarter ago, the unreasonableness of this reality grows and compounds as time goes on.

They chose to create the ICC. They chose to create this reasonable expectation. Those who hold or held the reasonable expectation are not being unreasonable. We’re just confused that it has been so long since we could use the darned thing after shelling out a lot of gems to get it. “Infinite” seems to be the opposite of “unusable” in this context, yet it has been precisely unusable for 1 year and 4 months at least now. That’s not reasonable.

I never tried the SAB, and I don’t own the ICC.

I’m absolutely in favour of AirimirOfGondor’s idea. I think that since you guys purchased the coin, you should be able to access the SAB.

The idea seems totally reasonable and I can’t see this as taking away huge amounts of time from HoT, especially since OP is not asking for new worlds, he’s just asking access to already existing content.

The effort would be as minimal as I could come up with yet I believe the joy for many would be incredible. I tried to come up with the least work for them with the most player base satisfaction and possibly more money for them as well.

I really hope this idea is not now forever lost in the megathread, kitten many ideas become. I’d really like to see the idea tried and from what I gather lots of others would like that as well.

Additionally, it also relies on SAB even being IN the game right now, just not accessible. Like all other content that came and went, it isnt there anymore. That means if it’s not even in the game, it needs to be added back into the game, which isnt as simple as people think.

And monkey, they’ve said that repeatedly in the past. That doesnt change the fact that basically everything else has higher priority than SAB. Saying they want it to return != it WILL return.

I think that when they made the SAB they made it like a holiday, in the sense that Halloween and Wintersday are holidays.

From a coding standpoint, if that assumption is true, then they would basically need to “toggle” the content to “on.”

They would not need to make any more levels, or design anything new, or come up with any new ideas. They would just need to, figuratively speaking, “turn it back on.”

Especially since everything that happens in the SAB happens outside of any normal play areas, this does not mean they would be changing any towns or anything. Although I would imagine the “Wintersday mode” versions of towns are something they pretty much turn on/off with a few “false” flags being changed to “true” flags.

In any event, they don’t need to recreate the lobby or the worlds players play in. They already made all of those. They just need some active way to get there (right now people only don’t get in because Moto has the door in Rata Sum closed/inactive instead of open/active).

So I don’t think it would be any kind of grand undertaking at all. I think it’s a very modest and reasonable request.

And I’d be willing to bet that lots of people who paid the money a year and 4 months ago would be happy to see their ICC do something other than stare back out at them from some pane in their bank, especially if it only takes a few “false” words being changed to “true” and/or copy-pasting what the Home Portal Stone does to make that happen.

You are starting to give me nostalgia for the super adventure box. I like the idea of the ICC transporting you directly to the SAB. Maybe to generate additional money you can buy an upgrade for the ICC to do that? This would allow more money to be generated without taking up extra inventory space with two different items.

I like your idea, but the problem I have identified is that, for the past 1 year and 4 months, the ICC has been absolutely incapable of doing anything other than waste a bank/inventory space.

My solution is for the coding end of the game to add a new function to the already-existing item. New money would come from new sales of the ICC. It would be the same ICC, but with a new function. Resale would make it available to new players who are now interested now that it does a new thing, and that is how they would get more money.

It wouldn’t take up any more inventory space, and besides, the last thing you would want to do to those dedicated people…

…who have waited so patiently sitting on their ICC’s they paid for a year and 4 months ago…

…would be to force them to “buy it again to make it function.”

That is why I suggested my idea the way I did.

This relies on Anet being willing to remove resources dedicated to HoT and set them on some…. craptastic joke content that has been stated multiple times that while they would like to bring it back, it is at the absolute BOTTOM of the list of priorities, so much to the point that it deserves less attention than a bugfix meant to fix sounds for a class’s skills.

You basically made all of that up based on your own personal bias towards content that has nothing to do with you.
I can’t believe you are so petty as to complain about people wanting access to already existing content they paid for.

This thread isn’t even asking for more content at all, just access to content that already exists.

Additionally the last official word, this month, is that SAB WILL return. So you better bite that bullet since your going to be mortally offended when it happens.

While it is clear that this is one of the people who does not like the SAB, and they are entitled to their opinion, I think their concern was just that this might divert people off of working on HoT. Based on my understanding, Anet isn’t structured in a way where that is likely to be the case. See my reply above.

I agree with you that they should not take people off of HoT to do this.

It is a gemstore item, so they would probably have someone from the gemstore team work on it.

Maybe it would be good for them to have the person who made the Home Portal Stone work on this. They’re also the person most familiar with how the Home Portal Stone works, and since this is basically a call to put that code into the ICC (just with a different destination point) I think that person could do it and do it pretty quickly.

Especially since HoT is the “project behind the scenes” they said they had people working on all this time, I don’t think this would be diverting any valuable HoT-related resources. It is probably something the gemstore person who made the Home Portal Stone could whip together pretty quickly since they already wrote code just like it for that item.

I think we all agree that HoT is the most important thing they are working on right now, but to those who spent money on an item 1 year and 4 months ago, I think it would be fair to ask that a gemstore-staff member take a moment to make item A (the ICC) more like item B (the HPS) so they can use that item for the first time in 1 year and 4 months. I think that is a reasonable thing to want and that this is a reasonable way to go about it.

[Sugg.]Make Recipes From Items Account Unlock

Just the ones from recipes that are items you double click to learn.

Not the ones you “discover.” We all know that is a valid leveling mechanic and I don’t want to mess with that. This suggestion would not mess with that at all. It wouldn’t reduce leveling by crafting in any way.

It would probably increase sales on Additional Crafting Licenses (anyone remember those?) As it stands right now this is probably the only thing keeping me from buying as many licenses as I can and going nuts maxing out crafting on all my characters.

Especially how hard some recipes are to come by, with some being one-per-account anyway, it only makes sense that this limited range of recipes should be account unlocks. Just about everything else is unlocked for the entire account or is in the account wallet already, so why not do this?

They would not have to buy the item again. They would still have their originally purchased item, but now have a chance to upgrade the item. New players can still buy the original highly useful item. They will also have a chance to upgrade that item for increased functionality.

The people using the infinite continue coin have a high chance of playing SAB more frequently. They will then have the strongest desire to quickly transport directly to the SAB for easy access. This can also help create a sense of progression to have the ultimate coin.

In your suggestion, what would players who choose not to upgrade the ICC do?

In what way is it…

highly useful

…to them? They have not been able to use it for 1 year and 4 months. Before that, at most, they were able to use it only for about 30 days.

The problem identified is that the ICC has been absolutely useless for too long now.

And I see no reason why people should have to spend even more to make it do anything at all after so long.

That is the problem I have identified, and that is why I suggest it the way I do.

I still have not done any personal story since Greatest Fear was removed.

That makes me sad, because I love(d) the personal story.

I cannot play it because it makes no sense now and if it ever does get fixed I do not want to be stuck having done it a way that made no sense.

I feel sorry for anyone who never got to see it the way that makes sense.

I also feel sorry for all of the new and returning players who will be going through personal story when they show up for Heart of Thorns. This might be just the thing that makes or breaks whether one of those players will stay.

Heart of Thorns will be a good time to make a good impression and might really boost the playerbase. But this removal made things worse.

And before you get any ideas, no. Removing personal story entirely is not the answer. Removing things is not the answer. It is what made this mess. This mess that has easy solutions mentioned by others in this thread, so I won’t repeat them here.

You have shown a recent commitment to stop removing things. I like that about LS S2 very much. I play LS S2 a lot and enjoy it a lot. It keeps me in the game and keeps me happy. I just wish personal story did that too. I used to play personal story a lot, but now when I make a new character I just grind levels and avoid the personal story like the mixed-up mess it is in the hopes that one day you can fix it and I can go back to enjoying it too. I really want to play and enjoy personal story, but can’t because Greatest Fear is still missing. So that makes me sad.

I loved going back in GW1 and replaying my favorite parts of the story. GW1 was always better than GW2 for that. I hope some day personal story (and LS S1) are all replayable. So everyone can appreciate all the lore, and all the work that went into making GW2 a great game worthy of its players.

Do it for the new players. Do it for the returning players. Do it for your loyal old players. Do it for the money. Bring Greatest Fear back and make the story make sense again. You will be loved by everyone in this thread and by the player base at large and you will make lots of money and live happily ever after!

Thought about it and can’t see how this is a bad thing in any way.

I thought about it very carefully and I really wanted to make sure it wouldn’t intrude on anyone who doesn’t like SAB/the idea of SAB. I know there are people out there who don’t want to see the SAB for various reasons, but I don’t think this suggestion would infringe on their desires much if at all. I’m really glad you like it.

Problem Identified:
People who purchased the Infinite Continue Coin (“ICC”) were only able to use it for, at most, just under 1 month (if they bought it on day 1) back at the start of Fall in 2013 (cite below). That was over 1 year and 4 months ago (as of time of writing 1/31/15).

Solution Proposed:
Click the ICC to take you into the Super Adventure Box lobby, with the ability to play from there. Like the Home Portal Stone(“HPS”).

Pros:
Makes ICC useable for the first time in 1 year and 4 months.
Allow people to access content related to their money/gem store purchase.
No harm/impact to players without the item/not interested in SAB.
No one ever enters the SAB while forgetting to bring the ICC.
New revenue on an old item (see “cons” below).

Cons:
New functionality means players might have bought it but did not way back then.
Sub-solution: Re-release the ICC on the gem store. Fixes this problem and produces new revenue from an old item.

Obstacles:
Will need to apply similar code to the HPS, placing players in the start of the SAB. Work expected to be minimal.

Please let me know if I have overlooked something about this idea. I believe the impact on those not interested in the SAB is nearly nonexistent or minimal at the very least. If you like the idea, please show support and maybe it can become a reality. Thank you.

I personally was enjoying a little more focus on the Sylvari. While there is a little bit of lore on them around, this is the first time we really actually get to see anything about them.

I always liked Trahearne (having a Sylvari as my main toon, I really felt like he was my bro), and I really liked how Canach was portrayed in the most recent LS. So as long as there’s more Trahearne and Canach, I’ll be pretty happy! Of course, there are other characters I want to see more of as well (Logan Thackeray and all the rest of Desiny’s Edge, etc), but that kind of stuff remains to be seen.

I inquired about these concerns, and our narrative director shared the following:

Thank you so much for your comments. We realize that the changes that were made have impacted the personal story, and we are working to fix this. This requires a good deal of resources, so we do not have a set date for when these fixes will be implemented. We appreciate your patience and will update with more information as it becomes available.

Gaile,

I know there are a lot of people in this thread who will focus on the fact that up until this point we did not know this. But looking forward to the future, I think this is a really good and really important first step.

I know that coming here must have been a very hard thing to do, given how upset a lot of these players are, but I think everyone can see that the future is a lot more promising now that you have done so.

We do not need to know every little spoiler or every little detail, but knowing things like this really helps keep people from wildly speculating.

That being said, the more we know early on, the more we can give feedback and potentially identify problems in concepts however vague and try to help steer away from investing resources into projects with problems, so however much info people are able to give, it can really help a lot.

I believe I understand you’d like to know if the Personal Story can be “reset” to a previous state. I have sent an email to ask about that and will let you know when I get some info for you.

More or less. It could still be in the new chapter format, just with the individual story steps back in the order they were in, including those currently missing.

I really do appreciate your efforts.

Thanks for the info. (And your kind words. <3 )

I think a lot of us here know that chapter-izing Greatest Fear might take a lot of work especially if no one tried to do it before, but knowing that you guys are thinking about it truly warms my heart at this point.

You may not realize it Gaile, but the communication you are giving us is going to heal a lot of old wounds and is letting the players know you care. What you are doing is really, really important right now. And if there are a few people who are still too hurt to realize it, give them time to heal and please do not get scared away from us. I believe that a lot of us, myself included, only see your being here as a very, very good thing. So thank you again Gaile.

  • We respectfully beg to differ. If the game isn’t lacking direction, then why won’t you at least share it with your concerned players? To hell with the policy… we want to know where the game is going. Gaile, put yourself in our shoes for a minute — wouldn’t you want to know too?

I understand and sure, as a player, I’d like that info. But that isn’t what the company is doing right now, and we all know, under it all, that someone saying “to hell with policy” isn’t a professional stance to take. This is where we are right now. Not forever, but right now.

I fully and completely understand the frustration. I truly comprehend that players would like us — someone, anyone! — to “open the floodgates” on information. That’s not in the cards. However, I have some ideas that I am going to float internally to see if we can say a bit more while honoring the overall communications policy. I wouldn’t propose that we answer “the big questions” in a forum post, but I know that forum members are some of our most passionate and connected players and I do wonder if we can offer some information. Outcome of this decision is TBD, naturally.

  • CJ must be ruing his announcement (last year?) in a vid on youtube, about precursor crafting before the end of 2013. Disregard the fact that it was announced to people looking forward to this particular feature that it wouldn’t make it in the feature patch that it was supposed to be released with — in the interview it shouldn’t have been discussed at all.

Ah, but see what you did there? I think, basically, you said something should not have been discussed until its implementation was absolutely confirmed. And isn’t that what the current policy states? We do not engage in a lot of predictive chatter about things that may not come; we reveal something — a feature, a fix, something new — when it’s assured. Not “this may happen” but “this will happen.”

The latest feature packs have been broken from the start, and no attempt has been made to either fix them or at the very least communicate with us why there is such a major delay in fixing them+*.

This is a sweeping statement that is difficult to analyze. Which feature pack. What specific element is broken? How is it broken? Are you certain that whatever was broken remains broken? (IOW, are you tracking bug fixes, etc?)

If you’re saying “the whole thing is broken” I’m going to call that hyperbole and move on. If you can detail exact, quantifiable elements that were and remain broken, I’m all ears! Because I can try to track things down if given sufficient details, but I surely can’t go into a room and say “stuff’s broken” and expect to get the information that you’d like to have, and that I’d like to share. (Please don’t post details in this thread. If you’d like to report the issues, would you please do so in the Bugs Forum? I will look for a thread if you care to share it!)

~~~~~
Having read this thread daily, and taking the general comments from everyone on board, I’m not sure that I can provide anything more in this specific thread. I do feel I can provide more — we can provide more — elsewhere. And that’s what I’m going to pursue.
Thank you for a constructive and enlightening discussion and for sharing your thoughts in ways that have been impressively courteous.
Gaile,
I just want to thank you for coming here and making this effort. I know it is not easy and some people are at the point where they are just so frustrated that they have a hard time getting past it, but you are doing a really good thing here that may be bringing the entire company out of a very dark place.
What you are doing really matters. And it is really appreciated. By myself and many others. So thank you Gaile.
I am really surprised this has not been fixed already. But I am even more surprised that there has not even been a comment as to whether or not the removal was intended.
I feel like in this industry it is very unusual to keep your players this much in the dark. Not spoiling things is one thing. But not giving the players so much as a clue about very big things is another thing entirely.
This is getting really bad.
AirimirOfGondor.9081
Living Story very much shows that you want to give something to the players. And to your minds, it shows a big commitment to that end. But to certain sections of the playerbase (including myself, although I really do like what Living Story gives me), it feels like you have your own direction and we don’t understand it. I guess if either traditional additions to an MMO or Living Story had to be cut, I’d rather see some new weapons/skills/races/professions than see what happens next every two weeks (with the same all of those things).
I’m one of those people who loves GW2 and wants to see it be the best game it can be. And I know that means a lot of different things to a lot of different players. But certain things can be polarizing and leave longtime players feeling out in the cold.
Well…the story of GW2 is GREAT! The lore is fantastic! There is (almost feel like saying “was”) so much potential! …
So…Yes LW episodes could count. But not this way.
So…There really isn’t more? That’s all? LW and ESL? This is this games direction?
Some of us are starting to feel like the “story is great” and “lore is fantastic” should perhaps be relegated to the past tense as well over at https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/My-Greatest-Fear-Plotline – because we have clearly identified ways in which the game’s lore and story no longer makes sense. While not everyone in the thread loved the old content, there seems to be nearly universal consensus that the way it is now leaves all scratching their heads. This is an example of a polarizing change that leaves old players feeling out in the cold, although it also makes it worse for new players as well.
I think the issue with Living Story is context. Looking at what you’re delivering, in a vacuum, yeah it’s easy to look and say “I don’t understand these fans, we are giving them stuff.” But when you step back and also look at those threads that identify longstanding problems (months, years old – and not the ones where it’s clear that the perceived “problem” is simply that Person A’s interests aren’t met when everyone else is fine) you start to see that, from a player perspective, Anet is marching to its own beat even if it feels like they are deaf to or ignoring basic bugfixes and necessary QoL for retaining players.
Gaile,
As a longtime fan of your work all the way back to Guild Wars 1 and the legacy The Frog left there, I have to say I love your work!
But I certainly don’t envy your position right now.
When I read the post I quote above I felt like I was reading the story of the entire forums as they have been for a very long time now.
I feel like this post illustrates how a lot of us are feeling on the forums these days and I think the answer to making a lot of fans happy and probably drawing and retaining more customers as well is in it.
Time and energy constraints probably play a huge role in why it’s hard to make communication work. And I know it’s not easy to sift through these forums to figure out who just has a chip on their shoulder because they’re having a bad day or life or something and who has a genuine observation or idea that can help the game.
I really hope this post gives some insight. I feel like devs and players are speaking two different languages and I just want to help bridge that gap. Hope you don’t think I was trying to bite your head off <3 Gaile!
This post says how I have been feeling so well. We want to work with the devs and talk with the devs. But our minds come from very different places because we have experienced everything up to this point differently. As a fan of The Frog I have to say that I hope this message gets through to you and you can see things from our perspective. And thank you again for coming here even though some people express their ideas in what seems like a negative way. I know their hearts are in the right place and they just want to help. Hopefully you can see that these are just diamonds in the rough.
Gaile, you’re a superstar and we love you, but you have to understand that it feels like we the players and you the devs/red posters talk over each other or at best each other a lot more than we actually understand each other. And I know you are the person who can fix that Gaile!
I’ve had another playthrough, and while the same problems are still there, Trahearne’s voice lines have been updated. So while ANet still cares about Personal Story (of course they do, just see their “improvements”), unconfusing the end chapters appears to be another large patch away.
How exactly have Trahearne’s lines been changed? I’m kind of curious about this – I have done the newest Living Story stuff, so I was a little surprised to see that they actually hired him to do more voice overs. I know that since they originally hired some big name voice actors like Nolan North they probably won’t be adding new player skills since they’d have to rehire everyone including him just to say “For Awesome Justice!” or something, you get what I mean. Same for why we don’t have any or many new Destiny’s Edge lines and we now have the Biconics instead with their voice…uhm…acting…. Say what you will about Destiny’s Edge, but at least they are industry-respected and well-established voice actors. Who are good at voice acting.
So are you telling us that when they had Trahearne’s VA in the studio they did new lines for old content? Which lines are changed now?
I personally loved the story prior to the reorganization. I never experienced all the arcs and have halted personal story progression on all the characters that have yet to reach “My Greatest Fear”. Of nine characters that would be 6 of them that have halted story progression.
I don’t play this game for the lore and story but they are both very important to me. Plot holes are memorable and of the 3 characters I’ve gotten to “Victory or Death” there have been a few small holes that give a kind of ‘hiccup’ to the immersion experienced while following the story.
This reorganization of the story is more than a ‘hiccup’ to immersion. I dare say it’s like being ‘vomited’ out of the immersion.
Thank you to all of the players that have done all the footwork figuring out where the eligibility line was for continuing with the lost plot line.
I also have stopped playing personal story on all of my characters. I actually have a pretty high number of characters, and I was planning on working my way through each one, getting them all leveled, geared, and through all the personal story. But I have put that on the furthest back burner.
My Greatest Fear Plotline
in Guild Wars 2 Discussion
Posted by: AirimirOfGondor.9081
AirimirOfGondor.9081
I didn’t like the greatest fear plotline. It seemed a bit mean to force you to choose something horrible, and then make it happen. I really can’t say I’m sad about not having to make that “choice” again. The first time through I was annoyed and mystified by the whole thing. I had Tonn, and as I remember it, he ran off alone (entirely unnecessary) and then just randomly turned up dead at the end of the instance. What. And then it was cutscene on cutscene criticizing my ability to lead, like I’d had any choice at all in how it turned out, and rubbing in the consequences of my “decisions”. Okay, if I’d had to choose between two npcs, and one died, okay, that’s one thing. This was just annoying.
It’s fine to not like the greatest fear storyline. In fact looking back a lot of people have admitted that it wasn’t the best written thing in the world and I even agree that Tonn’s death was pretty unnecessary and that that part of the story felt a little forced.
But I think the general feel of this thread is that the game is still worse off without the greatest fear bit, not because of all that, but because the story makes a lot less sense since clearly the greatest fear storyline still happened and gets referenced but it just comes out of nowhere and everyone expects that you know it now when players who never got the opportunity to play it will just be confused about all those story points.
Sadder still is that Anet’s silence is leading some of us to believe that their “solution” to this problem might be to cut even more content until the story is a wasteland with everything removed. Okay that’s slight exaggeration but if they remove everything that referenced greatest fear, then they’d have to remove anything that referenced those references etc. and the story would get a lot shorter and a lot worse really quick.
The point is, people in this thread feel like the gaping plot crater left by removing the greatest fear storyline is the problem and that it is a much a bigger problem. Even some of the people here defending it and requesting its return admit to having not necessarily loved the storyline itself. But they recognize that it played an important, even if a tad bit forced, point in the story that is too important to cut.
And finally there are those who care about storytelling and can’t get into their main character if their main character is Mr./Mrs. Perfect and never makes any mistakes. And we’re worried that removing the greatest fear storyline is sanitizing the story to become just that. It makes it a bad story from a narrative perspective. And we thought they cared about telling a good story. We all are starting to feel like we were wrong about that now.
Honestly, as one of the last unlocking systems in the game that isn’t account bound, it must be confusing when so many other things are earned for the entire account now.
This is important for the new Halloween recipes they just added this year.
I just want to add that I thought about the additional crafting licenses this Halloween but didn’t get one because it still wouldn’t let me access my new Halloween recipes across multiple characters.
Now that Halloween is over it will be another year before anyone can get these recipes again.
The time of limiting collections to characters in Guild Wars 2 is over. Almost nothing uses an old character bound system anymore because the devs realized it was much smarter to make unlocks for collectible items be for the whole account.
And with how hard it is to get some recipes, and with how many recipes there are now and how many more are likely on the way, it definitely takes a collector to get them all now.
This is true now more than ever since they added even more Halloween recipes this year. I would have bought the additional crafting licenses by now if I could use those recipes on my other characters. Make recipes from items account bound.
  • A lot of newer players had trouble with the interface. That doesn’t apply to you, you’re veterans who have been around the conversion block a time or two. But newer players will benefit from the updated system.
Suggestion:
Small checkbox on that page: “Toggle Advanced Mode.” Advanced Mode is the old mode.
That way current users do not lose any functionality and new users won’t be confused. They click “Advanced Mode” at their own peril and get something more advanced showing as a result. Uncheck the box to make it go back to your new system here.
Bonus: Make it so you have to check the box each time you load the page. Yes, it will be a slightly annoying step for experienced users, but it would guarantee that your proverbial “newer player” doesn’t get stuck in Advanced Mode. Tabbing to something else and back in would just show the new mode.
Everybody wins.
Fully support OP’s idea. Actually came to the forums to post this idea myself but saw this thread already existed.
The way OP structured it it wouldn’t even mess with leveling alts via crafting.
100% support this.
Have you bought any Additional Crafting Licenses up to now? If not, would you buy any Additional Crafting Licenses if this suggestion went live?
No I have never bought any additional crafting licenses. Without accountwide recipes they are worthless to me and I’m not interested in them
Yes if there were accountwide recipe unlocks I would probably buy them. In fact if they raised the cap I would probably buy enough to max every craft on one character and I would sink the gold making my character max in every craft just so I could say I had done so.
I think they are missing a lot of revenue on the additional crafting licenses by not having accountwide recipe unlocks. Why would a person want them if they had to rebuy the recipes on each character?
Just to play the Devil’s advocate (I don’t dislike the idea of Account bound recipes), what about the tens of thousands of Karma I have spent on multiple crafting recipes? Right now it’s been well spent, but if this happens I have no recourse but to consider it completely wasted (not that it’s the first time I have “wasted” karma…..). The obvious request would be for a refund (yeah, I know that’s not going to happen, but SOMEONE is going to make the “demand”).
OP mentioned that they could refund them like how they did dyes at one point. But I think that only makes sense if the recipe is tradeable. They would either have to make all refunded recipes tradeable (which might hurt the economy) or they should give you back what you spent if it’s a nontradeable recipe (give you back the karma or laurels or coin you spent for accountbound ones the NPCs sell.)
Edit: Mystic beat me to the refund idea!
My top three priorities:
1) All features equally accessible to small guilds.
2) Different styles of halls based on region, accessible through each zone in that region.
3) Customizable – changeable arrangement of rooms/decorations; changeable wall/floor colors, furniture etc
Personally, I would have trouble finding any old information if this thread were in any way locked or changed, especially since the search function on these forums doesn’t always work right.
I think it would be very confusing for many people if they can’t find information due to the thread being changed.
I think this thread should stay the same.
I think how good or bad the story or any characters were is irrelevant. What this boils down to is that the narrative is all messed up now, and that already-paid-for resources were removed. That’s like you paid someone else to put a pool in your backyard, then after two years you decided to drain it and fill it with cement by yourself. It might not have been the best pool, but there was nothing wrong with it. You just decided to remove it. It is a waste though. Especially since you aren’t planning on using your backyard for anything else.
I would have liked to see a dev response to this before the weekend, but perhaps someone will take the time to respond on Monday.
Hear me, Hoelbrak. I sing of Apatia, and the legend she forged. She was many things: a Lionguard, a soldier, a hero, a friend.
She joined the Pact because fighting one dragon was not enough. She was determined to fight them all: Jormag, Zhaitan, and any that follow.
She repeatedly proved her valor and worth at Claw Island, killing scores of undead and saving hundreds of innocent lives.
Moreover, she helped recover an artifact that now shields Fort Trinity from Zhaitan’s influence. She gave us the footing we need to strike down the dragon.
Apatia’s life ended on that mission, but her glorious legend lives on.
Let the bards sing and the skaalds proclaim her glorious name forever. Join me now, until the Shiverpeaks themselves ring with the sound: Apatia!
I think something like this would be a great idea.
I remember this very thing very clearly from the beta weekends when I played them. I thought it was a really good way to get feedback from the players – and not just the vocal minority. If they were to implement something like this inside the game itself, they could really get a feel for what players really want. And it was already in the game, so I don’t see how it could be that hard to pop it back in.
Suggestion: kick from guild panel only
I accidentally kicked someone from my guild today. They were in my party, but had logged off for the night, so I went to remove them from the party. Because I was in a hurry, I clicked ‘Kick from guild’ when I meant to click ‘Kick from party.’
This is a very easy mistake to make. Perhaps removing people from a guild would be better if you could only do this through the Guild panel? Or at least require confirmation to kick from the guild?
Has anyone else experienced this?
4/15 skins update: Achievement skins
I would agree with OP. I’m sure a lot of people did the exact same thing. And there were not that many achievement-unlocked skins; I’m sure it would be a simple matter to include them in the wardrobe based on each accounts unlocks. Or at least make them re-obtainable the way the Hellfire/Radiant/Zenith skins are.
