you can do the same with rifle warriors. or let us not forget two thieves that stealth eachother then out of nowere does 20k+ backstab damage and disappears.
the thieves still have to actually come to you to do this, no? they don’t backstab you from 1500 range where there’s nothing you can do about it? And this happening is actually extremely rare… I have rarely seen people get backstabbed for 10k+ each.
You are hardly only defined by that little detail of shadow step.
This is how you know this guy has never played thief LOL
Asking why someone decides to play a power ranger is the same as asking any other class why they play power glass cannon build. You want burst damage, you want to kill things fast, you want the thrill of deadly conclusion if you make a mistake. Great risk, high reward.
Nothing is more boring to me than fighting with a tank that hits like a wet noodle but only wins because outheal and hits with a kittenload of conditions. If I have a chance to burst you down in 4 seconds with my glassy ranger without much room for mistakes, I will take it.
Also, I don’t know what you means “no one wants to fight”. Just because the main weapon is ranged means they don’t fight? Does that means only melee constitutes a fight for you? Sorry to say but there are many ranged builds available for roaming for all classes.
Power rangers are very vulnerable on melee range, if you can’t get to it, you should check your skill rotations.
By the way, longbow have 1500 units range with the trait Eagle Eye not 1800.
I don’t think 1v1 they’re much of a problem… but in groups of 5+ it’s a bit ridiculous don’t you think? There is no other class in the game that can output that kind of dmg from that kind of range. Plus, GS provides really good melee play. This isn’t an issue of 1 power ranger but masses of them. Other than stealth classes, and prob warrior (even then it’s rare if there’s more than 1 power ranger) – other classes don’t really have the ability to easily escape them. If they were at 1200 range then it wouldn’t nearly be the issue it’s become. I think the only problem is that 1500 units really. The mechanic is as broken as hammer warrior, except they actually have to work to get close enough to use their knockdowns and stuns
(edited by Alchemist.3692)
All you would have to do is throw up walls of reflection halfway and they can kill themselves!
Not really, they stop… wait for their CD which is 1/3 the CD of your WoR, FeedBack, whatever else… and it’s gg. Plus they never run alone lol… this new meta… i might try it out. Esp popping that signet of stone and going wild with a GS, then gs leap away when it runs out – swap to lb and faceroll lol. I’m really curious why no one discovered this two years ago? I can’t imagine that much has changed, has it? Maybe some rangers can chime in.
What makes it viable now, vs whatever it may have been before?
lol who thought rapid fire or whatever it’s called was a good idea? all i see these days are power rangers everywhere. Maybe ANet should nerf that LB range or something. Seems like no one wants to fight, they just want to sit back and face roll from 1800 range….other than trolling is there any real reason to play power ranger?
How About Latency/Lag for REST OF THE WORLD
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Alchemist.3692
+1 for this.. im on NA servers and I can’t even play…. it’s ridiculous. Meanwhile not a single person has said anything about what the issue is, or what they’re trying to do about it. I’ve come to the point where the last 2 weeks have been so ridiculous, I don’t even want to waste my time with this game anymore
One thing that completely confuses me is…. why am I connecting to Telia.net if im in NA? I’ve been having huge latency problems for 2 weeks now. I’ve tried IPs 64.25.33.86; 64.25.38.230; and 64.25.40.118.
They all have 50%+ packet loss. I dont know why I’m being routed to an EU provider?
Back when transmutation stones were a thing it cost around 50 gems to get each stone and we could use it to transmute the properties on to a different set of armor, therefore allowing us to salvage that after. But now we need to use upgrade extractors which is 250 gems each. And if you have runes that you put in WvW gear before this swap from transmutation stones to extractor then you’re potentially out a lot of gold with no way to recover them (i.e. things like runes of strength, scholar, etc).
I don’t know if anyone has found a workaround to this or not, but Anet should really bring down the price of the upgrade extractor to something more reasonable. At this time 250 gems is approx 32g x 6 = 192; whereas if you put runes of strength in then you’re out approx 60g. It’s a lose/lose situation, and it’s pretty annoying.
I’ve heard some people put armor in their banks and delete their characters to remove the soulbound on it and move the armor to another character that could potentially use it, but that wouldnt really make a difference in my case.
Is there anyway around this salvage lock?
I’m getting anywhere from 100% packet loss at various ncsoft servers trying to trace to 64.25.40.118 over 350s of stats gathering by pathping. Pingplotter, over a sample of 20 I get anywhere from 50-100% packet loss again at ncsoft servers. I don’t believe I’ve had this issue before since I have been able to play just fine since launch. This is a more recent issue – outside of occasional spikes of course.
Since reset last week Friday, I’ve been having consistent latency issues. Skills are at least 1s delayed and when I enter a tower or keep, I continue running into the portal for about 1s-2s before I can actually get inside. I don’t have any problems with other online games, video streaming sites, or even general browsing. I am pinging 250-280ms for some reason. It’s usually around 70-100.
Is there something I can do to help troubleshoot this issue? I am in Canada, EST time zone.
What: Armour
Why: I don’t understand why you need armour if you’re always going to stealth anyway? Or at least have armor that doesn’t allow you to add runes, they make it even more OP.
What: Sigils for Thieves
Why: Flame blast aoe, lightning, etc make the thief way stronger than they already are. Lets do something like the Ferocity nerf so that only thieves would be impacted by them.
inside a keep? lure him into a stealth trap. preferably in the middle of npcs and lord for teh extra lulz. watch him q.q as he uses all his ini on 333333
LOL…. best plan ever.
Another ranger complaining.. how unique. Rapid fire on your LB is channeled – if you’re zerk, you will practically kill them if not stop them from coming closer while they waste a heal or stealth – which also gives you an idea as to the direction they’re going in. Sick em is great, and so is fear from one of those dogs you can get. GS is strong as well. If you’re mad about disengage, every class has the ability – thieves are just naturally better at it with shadow step, SR, and SB 5 – whereas a warrior would just leap spam until healing signet gets him back to full hp. I’ve also seen some rangers disengaging very well.
This is more of an l2p issue than anything else. Condi/regen ranger is even easier gg.
But you probably run PTV stats, so I’m not really surprised.
This “slow” condition sounds a lot like chill…. I don’t really understand why we need a new version of it? I suppose chill itself could be modified to do that. Imagine getting both chill and slow applied. That’ll be ridiculous. Already immob stacking is the bane of roaming alone, this is just going to make it even more of a zerg v zerg battle
Hey folks,
Now that the HOT is out of the bag, we’re able to update this thread with more details. With the introduction of the new account based mastery system for end-game progression and growth in PvE, we’ll also be re-evaluating our other systems of character progression to ensure they match our over-all pillars and goals for Gw2.
In doing so: we’re going to be removing the current trait unlocking system currently on live and replacing it with a more simplified system that supports where skills-traits-specializations are going in the future. We’ll go into more details between now and the release of HOT on how skills, traits, and specializations will work in the new Gw2 world.
Thank you for all your passionate feedback on this topic – it not only helped our dev team lead to this decision, but has played a large role in helping us define how to build our exciting new account based mastery system for end-game progression in PvE as well.
So, when can I use more than a single trait on my two new characters without having to force feed myself PVE content? Is this expected to happen when HOT comes out?
Does investing in; or pursuing increasing your magic find actually impact your drops? I’ve heard of some people having over 200% magic find, and my question is has anyone tested this? or noticed whether or not magic find has increased the rate of collecting more rare items?
I seem to have the worst luck, and maybe out of 100 dungeon runs i get 1 exotic (I don’t know if this is normal) – so I’m wondering if getting a bunch of essences of luck and increasing MF would help my rates at all. With that being said what is the maximum account wide magic find not including any buffs/food?
Few things I will clarify for you…. first off, warriors are the biggest pains in the kitten to catch. While a thief or mesmer might stealth and maybe get lucky enough to run away without getting clipped with stacking immobs, a warrior just doesnt even get bothered by it and perma leap skills away. There is no mesmer that can catch a warrior unless that warrior is just really bad.
Now, you can keep most classes locked down permanently with some hammer rotations as I’ve had other warriors do to me on my mesmer. Ofc it’s not difficult to get out of as a mesmer, but a theif or meditation guardian without stability will have a really tough time with a hammer warrior that keeps you knocked down/stun locked.
Take no pain is ridiculously op and ive seen a lot of warriors use it very well. I would say warriors are generally top 3 as you can trait for more or less any kind of build. You should be able to tank a lot of the thief’s dps esp now with the backstab nerf. Condi thieves are annoying, but just run anti condi builds…. you can still out put a ton of dmg.
your problem is relying on 100b in a 1v1…. it’s the most predictable burst. Better to use things that allow you to attack while moving like axe, mace, and sword (shield bash in to eviscerate can be brutal). I dont believe I have ever once had a problem with a GS warrior regardless of the class I’ve played. There’s not enough mobility unless you’re running away and using whirl to increase distance. Also, if you ever get immob and someone is at close range… using whirl does a ton of unexpected dmg plus gives you evade. I think it’s just coming down to your rotations and the way you’re anticipating the fight to go.
You need to look for queues of big hits coming up. For ex condi mesmer “blocking”, 1s after you’re hit with 5 stacks of torment…so either you dodge the torment after you see the word “block” pop up, cleanse it, or range him/her without moving much because your avg condi mes will drain you for 10k hp on torment. Other than that, most of the other conditions dont really bother you with healing signet on + shouts or warhorn. Shatter mesmers are rare and hard to play, so expect an opening when they mess up. They usually have a single burst, while immobilized for the ileap combo just use whirl, or take no pain.. as soon as it finishes start stomping lol.
Thieves is more of a matter of patience.. dont lose your cool.. I recommend hammer and axe or sword with shield off hand (btw shield is fantastic on the warrior).
Necros – lol there’s nothing to say about these guys.. they just spam conditions and rely on an extra health bar. Given the structure of their class, it doesnt require a lot of thinking so it’s rare you’ll run into any problems 1v1
Guardians – I think this could be a problem depending on the type. Meditation bursts are tough to deal with because they’re also fairly tanky, but once they use up their rotations – you’ll be able to burst down very fast. It’s a matter of timing, to dodge things like their greatsword whirl.
Rangers – even bigger LOL unless it’s a condi ranger, you shouldnt have any problems. You can tank pretty much everything. Otherwise just use -40% duration food
Eles – This is entirely based on the skill of the ele.. no particular strats, since they all rotate pretty well… Just try to save a burst after they’ve just switched out of water since there’s a few seconds cd on it
Engis – Condi engis, just try to avoid fields.. you can shout off most of their condis plus warhorn. Very predictable set of moves… just be patient and stay out of their zones (turrent and supply crate areas) force them to come to you
Warriors I take it you should be fine dealing with
I hope you aren’t looking for a one solution will dominate all build because that wont happen. And even if there was one, there’s always a way to defeat it. It’s important to you the weaknesses of your own build – probably more than knowing the strengths of someone else’s build.
Oh, and a final tip – if you dodge roll… do it toward the enemy not away..things that move in a straight direction (beams, projectiles) will continue going and you’ll need to use a second dodge, and even worse they’ll be in a position to attack you again. So dodge toward them (hopefully you can get behind, interrupt with a shield bash or bulls charge and dps away).
(edited by Alchemist.3692)
that silly extractor is way too overpriced…. if i’ve spent 60g on runes, now I need to spend 1300 gems which is far more than 60g to get my runes back…. that’s so stupid, I’m wondering if ANet is just trolling
i ran into a condi guardian today… full tank spec + insane burn dmg. If you have a mobile class, esp ones that can juke in and out it isnt a big deal… but i saw it mow down two warriors that both burned to death. It was very unexpected.
condi engis have been the meta since launch if i remember correctly (or at least after the 100 nade nerf), condi necros… well you dont need a lot of talent to play that particular setup and it isnt anything surprising… some more condi thieves coming up now after the patch (can’t blame them since backstab isnt as strong as it was, and basilisk venom also got nerfed). To my surprise i’ve seen a lot of condi staff mesmers (surprising because they havent even traited for the extra bounce on attack). I don’t consider them strong unless it’s a group fight but they’ve been roaming around all day from DR and GOM sides before reset.
Some people spent a lot of time saving up money for a set of travelers and now it’s not even half of what it was. You’d think they’d add a better bonus to it or something. I wonder what ANet’s reasoning for this is? They just seem to run around making senseless changes
I main a mesmer since launch, and I can tell you that there are two builds that will cause problems… Shatter, and Condi/PU. The phantasm build is not a big deal usually.. you can CnD off them repeatedly, and the clones are actually very helpful for maintaining perma stealth. The challenge is if you come across iDuelist phantasm, you wanna take that out fast before a second one pops out as regardless of which build it’s running it will do tons of dmg (condi builds can stack around 8 stacks of bleed plus crit you for 2k+ per shot). The easiest way to deal with it is dodge roll toward the iDuelist and then CnD off of it. Make sure you have blind on stealth. With d/p it’s even easier… just use black powder ontop of it.. dps down then stealth before the field is out. You can stealth a lot longer than mesmers so use that to find an opening and be patient.
Now about the specific builds.
Shatter mesmers are rough for thieves because they have insane burst (around 10k+ if done right) which leaves you with almost no room for error. On the other hand though they also require a very skilled player to pull off – the avg shatter mesmer is a joke but a seasoned one is extremely tough to deal with.
Condition mesmers (in this case scepter/torch and sword pistol) will rely on the waiting game. They have plenty of stealth and usually setup phantasm + condi burst. Your main concern is dealing with their 5 stacks of torment which in WvW at least can do up to 16k dmg over i think 10s if traited right which is also up every 12s. The avg I believe is 10-12k moving torment dmg plus any other condis applied at the time. This build requires a lot of kiting to do that kind of dmg and is really hard if you dont have ranged weapons or condi clear (use CnD on clones to clean condis in stealth). Also the key to this is easy tho, whenever you see “Block” dodge right after. The reason I’m not talking about any arm movements etc is because what i usually do is stealth and let the thief dps and block in stealth so they cant see my actual action. This move will not pull a mesmer out of stealth if it connects so it’s esp dangerous. Usually ppl think the block comes from the aegis that procs in stealth which is true but sometimes that doesnt always happen.
Staff mesmers are annoying you just need to be patient take out the clones and find an opening for a good backstab.
i find sword/p or s/d works well against mesmers but i personally have never used anything other than d/d and d/p against them. Nor have i even updated my build since maybe oct? I rarely play thief but because I main mesmer it’s relatively easy to deal with. Maybe you should try running mesmer for a few weeks
are you sure it’s not +6% dmg? 26% sounds like a lot
With the new patch, it seems that I can only see the “power” I have for my character in the hero menu, but I cannot see the total attack. Is it just me or is it really no longer there lol. If so, how can I see what the total attack is for my character, as I understand that base dmg is different depending on the class
I think the real issue is the burst rotations in condi builds. They are very strong regardless of condi cleanse. At best most classes cleanse up to 2 maybe 3 conditions every 30-40s. A necro can easily add repeated conditions that do a lot of dmg in a short time. Not just that, but death shroud buys lots of time for any cds to finish on a necro.
I think for all that dmg, base hp should be reduced. But unfortunately that would impact power necros the most. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t see any particular skill requirement in a condi necro. It’s just spam whatever is not on cd. Almost like condi engis. There’s really not much in terms of strategy other than spam. Power necros however I feel like it takes more careful play to come out on top. But that’s just my opinion. Unfortunately, when a build becomes meta… too many baddies make it look like a cheezy build. I’m sure those who are more talented with the class run it in a much more complex way – though, I have yet to see a condition necro play against any class with clever use of terrain, taking advantage of weaknesses, etc. It’s just perma spam.
lemme know how it goes when you’ve spent 2 hours in arah and havent even made it to lupi yet.
Start your own groups
The issue is as soon as a ranger icon is seen, people wont join it. I don’t think it matters if he’s the one starting the group or not lol
Sometimes, when ppl are looking for specific classes you end up getting kicked from a party, or the dungeon run is really bad and you cant progress so you guys disband and leave the party as well. This nonsense LFG tool makes you “wait a moment” before joining another party. The problem is, that moment – one hour later – is still not up. Either they should remove it or put in a timer so people know how long they have to wait. It seems unlikely that someone is just going to party hop for the lulz so this feature really doesn’t make sense. Before this tool whenever people used gw2lfg I’ve never come across anyone party hoping and making things difficult for anyone else.
So if someone from ANet would like to explain this senseless feature, I’d be happy to listen. Otherwise, I think it should just be removed – who knows if it’s even functioning as intended and isn’t bugged out?
I’m looking for a warrior build for dungeons… I used to run a tanky raid build but im considering some high dps builds for speed runs… anyone have any builds out there or could point me in the right direction?
Invul targets don’t summon phantasms… they just put it on full cd – which does suck against warriors particularly since you cant see their take no pain come on as any sort of animation or cue. I think that should be adjusted – though it hasnt caused me any real pain… just have to resort to other ways of dealing dmg
It’s pretty simple. People don’t like to lose 1v1 fights. PU builds happen to be very strong in 1v1 fights. Therefor, people love to complain about PU.
this is a very mislead argument pyro
PU in terms of survivability is just as strong in dueling as it is in every other PVP apsect of the game that players can participate in. wvw, small scale fights, gvg, 1v?, roaming, ect.
the only place it is week. or rather pointless is conquest were stealth stops point contesting, and thats not at all related to the trait more so than the stealth mechanic.
the trait needs a nerf. it mindless gives a ridiculous amount of survivability on top of the already amazing survivability of stealth.
there are no counters or tactics that even half of the class’s can use to counter PU survivability, no way to counter disengagement potential, and no way to counter sustained dps potential through illusions while remaining undetectable and untargetable through a long and extended chain of stealths
its just too good with no skill investment needed from its user.
thus why would someone use something thats less effective and takes more skill?
this trait destroys viable diversityso in order to preserve viable diversity among the users of the Mesmer profession this trait needs a nerf/major functionality change or we will watch as the majoirty of mesmer builds are devolved in to a meta based on utilizing the survivability staple that stealth combined with this trait provides….oops seems this has already happened. just like it happened to warrior.
I think you’re exaggerating the survivability a lot… the issue is mesmers dont have access to boons easily outside of using staff, traiting in to interruptions/shatters, or running that silly signet (which I run in dungeons with 70% boon duration). PU is a way for mesmers to get access to boons – where every other class can easily do so, we’re kinda stuck having to give up certain things. The strength is that people just stealth a lot, so it isnt that the boons are helping them survive.. but the stealth is actually where the survivability comes in play. You basically have a thief that can generate clones. What you’re essentially asking for is a nerf to stealth, not PU – PU by itself doesnt change the fact that we wear light armour and even at 2700 armour can get hit with an 8k backstab – the reason it’s so “strong” is because mesmers finally get a chance to play at the same level as the other classes in terms of equal footing survivability.
Dont go on about how our clones “confuse” people – because anyone who gets fooled by a clone or phantasm would lose anyway regardless of PU.
If you want to know about counters, it’s pretty easy. Necros practically ignore it, thieves just apply poison and bleed to counter any regen (protection is hardly up as long as you make it seem), rangers have a few options depending on the builds they run, warriors just tank and dps it anyway, guardians have access to burn dmg… etc. And surprise surpise, anyone with high burst can take you down. Mesmers arent the only ppl with access to those boons lol.
I dont think we should further handicap a class because most people dont bother to l2p. Engis have insane survivability, but no one seems to say they’re op and need to be nerfed. Don’t let silly things fool you. It’s always about the player – I’ve never seen any top level players who roam regularly complain about PU, they just acknowledge that it’s strong and they have ways to counter it.
I think they should really look at warrior leap skills without a target… i cant get over the fact that if someone is invul i my illusions dont get summoned and go on full cd.. our LOS went to hell ever since they “adjusted” it… god forbid i ever have to attack a tower as a mesmer, with only 2-3 skills with long cds that will actually hit someone on top, it is pretty annoying that they havent addressed that yet. Besides, I dont see many ppl taking advantage of critical infusion – so I dont understand the nerf
imo lose the focus, it’s hard to land direct dmg with it. I’d opt out for a torch – the prestige + ileap + blurred frenzy + shatter is an easy 10k burst. You can also setup with prestige – swap to pistol iduelist + ileap blurred frenzy + magic bullet + shatter. also i would redo skills as 20/20/30/0/0. PU is very strong, and any skills past 20 in dueling is useless imo – the main ones are clone when dodging and if you really want then recharge on pistol or id just swap it for far reaching manip or desperate decoy.
Focus dmg comes from iWarden, and that is not mobile. Your target can just walk away from it before it takes too much dmg, and the curtain is only good if you trait in to it – even then only useful on ranged enemies who if up on terrain can easily hit “over” it.
If NS is recruiting, they’re pretty solid (or at least were, not sure anymore, haven’t been keeping up) at GvGs and competitive outnumbered raiding right on your home server so you won’t have to transfer. We over here on Fort Aspenwood might have what you’re looking for too; there are practically no queues at any time of the day and we have great times fighting outnumbered.
lol I am ex-NS. Btw who do you guys usually match up against?
Was part of one of NA’s top gvg and raid guilds, and lately I just prefer to roam – but unfortunately most ppl on the two servers I face dont fight unless they’re in a large zerg (I’m on JQ and we face BG and SoR regularly).
Ideally I’d like to transfer to a skilled server where I can face a lot of talented small man groups (10-15 ppl) and also have members of the same server involved in roaming. I’m open to joining a roaming/skill guild who typically fight outnumbered and sharing my experience if there are any in NA. I main a mesmer (burst, support/boons, and PU builds), decent thief and fairly good warrior for raids. I know how most of the top guilds structure their squads and skills, along with the strategies often used for fighting blobs.
I’ve heard a lot about the competitiveness in EU and was wondering if any NA players can comment on if they experience lag or if they’re getting good fights despite timezone differences.
Thanks!
I would say use sPvP to learn your class inside out – you will realize a lot about your strengths and weaknesses early on, but if you want to really be good you have to be very strategic. You need to know not just your class but the other ones as well. Which animations signal which moves and how that will impact you. Strategy is critical, esp when you play as a warrior because the high HP and base DPS will make most ppl think you can just run around button mashing.
Warriors imo are a class faced with a lot of challenges, and while they’ve come a long way – I’ve very rarely seen them beat mesmers and necros. Theives can give them a hard time, and ele mobility is a pain to deal with. I think it comes down to knowing the other class well enough to time your bursts so you can capitalize on openings and mistakes.
But this is just my exp. I roam on a mesmer/thief and I used to raid with one of NA’s top guilds as a warrior, and I believe if there’s 2 or more ppl with a warrior then that’s when they truly shine.
I really dont see the logic behind this. On the one class it should be used on (run away warriors) it doesn’t work… and it just punishes anyone with light or medium armor.
What is anet’s reasoning behind this?
Currently some mesmer skills dont really make sense with their placement. One thing I’d really like to see get looked at is Cleansing Conflagration (IX Master trait in the Domination Line). Typically torch is used in condition builds, and to have to invest 20 points in power to access it is kind of silly (and yes I’m aware that also increases condition duration on that line). Usually for a viable condition build mesmers would invest heavily in Chaos, and dueling for survivability but then we either have no choice but to invest in condition duration rather than dmg if we want to use the torch (which is the only offhand weapon that applies conditions directly – I don’t consider iDuelist bleed stacks as a direct application of condition) or we have to abandon the torch and use the pistol (which isn’t great fighting 1 v X) because the focus (lol) and off-hand sword are typically for power builds and wont have much effect in a full condition build. If maybe it could be moved down in to adept slot that’d be a lot easier for us to access or move it in to the inspiration line where I think it would fit best since it does cleanse conditions and helps survivability.
The other strange one is 25 in Dueling which gives the traits illusions (which should be changed to clones btw since it doesnt work with phantasms unless that’s been fixed and I’m unaware of it) cause confusion when they’re killed. It’s extremely unlikely to have a condition build (since base confusion dmg is useless) that invests 25 in dueling. It doesn’t make sense. Perhaps it can be moved somewhere closer, or in an entire different trait line and you can put something that would be useful or sensible to someone putting 25 points in precision and crit dmg because it seems like a waste to have it there.
That’s my two cents
I never lose to thieves in wvw. Traps and spirits just massacre them when you add a little s/d evasion.
Spirit/Regen ranger OP against any class lol
Yeah. Mesmer. Don’t build glassy. Out condi apply/duration their removal. Don’t bring a staff to a thief fight. iWarden to negate ranged attacks, and to cover you in open field from melee. Temporal curtain to counter shadow refuge. Channeled scepter to strike/follow while they’re stealthed (also applies confusion stacks at a constant rate to block condi removals behind them like burns and bleeds). iMage for confusion the moment they come out of stealth plus retal for mesmer. Sword iLeap for CC and burst. Torments always a kitten too. Clone on death to soft cc the hell out of them/punish attacking clones.
Then high mobility and long ranged blinks to give chase.
If all else fails, lead them to a cliff and pull them into the void.
Disagree.. condition build staff is strong. If the clones (not phantasms) go unchecked they apply huge dmg and pressure. D/P thief is hard to finish because they can easily run away. I have never found any problems against a thief in a duel though – they cant reset the fight so it’s a lot easier. Roaming thieves are very strong though.
Also, engineers seem to be the anti thief. Great burst, tanky, great healing.. they’re well set to counter any thief build even with their generic condition builds.
To me it makes zerg worse.
Fewer escape routes.
Easier to ambush.
Shorter travel routes?Anti-zerg?
lol not only that but add 50-150 in all stats for said zerg and it’s just ridiculous. Most zergs already have 80%+ running stack weapons you add in most cases 100 points across the board and that zerg was stronger than before. I don’t understand how this is supposed to help the smaller servers?
@ Alchemist:
I think you overreact here. I simply go by the principle nothing is OP, there`s just OP players… I learned that attitude while playing starcraft for almost a decade now. It`s PvP, means you`re not only playing your opponent`s class but you play another human being that can be outplayed/outsmarted even if the odds do not favor you.
The MMO community seems to rely on and enjoy the nerf/buff cyclejerk which leads to fotm play and lots and lots of whining even if not justified.
I could be the most crappy player on earth and I would still tell you it is an learn to play/adapt issue because there are people (warriors in this case) who reacted to the strengthened necros and developed counters. A game should never be balanced around subpar players, but balanced for the top ones, because anybody else can just overcome obstacles through becoming a better player…
Best regards
Really? A random condition spam is an op player? Why weren’t they this strong before? LOL if what you say is true – these same players would’ve been just as strong a few days before the new changes. If you think someone’s skill goes up drastically in a week, for no apparent reason then I don’t think you understand the meaning of corelation. This isn’t about nerfing something that was originally part of the game – it’s about fixing something that wasn’t tested.
And being probably a subpar player yourself you really shouldn’t be talking about l2p issues. Being subpar doesn’t exactly give you the position to decide whether something is OP or not.. I mean think about it. If you were a subpar surgeon would it put you in a position to decide whether a method of surgery is life threatening or not?
Sure you can give your opinion, but will the panel of experts you seem to admire listen to what you have to say? Probably not – because talent goes a long way. So when you say things like this, tbh you just discredited yourself. It just baffles me why you would discredit yourself, and continue to think that what you’re saying carries weight?
Strange.
I don’t catch a lot of my zerg based stuff (heavy on the comp resources), but here’s a little example of using my mes for scouting. I can ghost a zerg all day to the point of them aggressively retaliating on me (without success), no speed issues, no needing to give up rune slots, or trait unnecessarily.
24s swiftness from focus (25s cd), untraited, no centaur runes, no heal spamming.
You cant see it in the vid but there’s a ton of soft cc’s and condi’s being applied via clone death. Again, not my best example but the mesmer is, imo, the ultimate sapping class. The role I play in WvW is “Advanced Scout”, running ahead of the zerg from point to point, and solo engaging the enemy right before the zerg arrives. Waste enemy cooldowns, break enemy formations, distraction and misdirection.
The build holds its own in 1v1 (even v condi), and 1vX

You’re a clown at best.
First of all, temporal curtain gives 12s of swiftness… if you have 24s that means you’re running boon duration runes/food/accessories. I can get perma swiftness like that too, but that’s not the point. Again, it means you have to take runes you don’t want.
Second, you’re in a group fight with guardians and you’re talking about conditions not bothering you? If it did give you a hard time then thats where the real problem is.
Third, that necro was a baddie – and showing one video of a baddie doesn’t make a point.
Don’t tell ppl to L2P when you need to learn to understand the english language. Without traiting into swiftness either via traitlines, or boon duration there is no viable way for mesmers to have swiftness up. Out of combat running speed is around the same if not less than guardians. So l2p, because clearly you’ve never run by yourself and rely on a group to carry you. Try dueling some condition necros that have played for more than 3 weeks.
@ Alchemist:
You got condition-bursted by marks…seriously? And you have problems with warrior vs necro…really? It`s L2P, believe me, dude. Ask some more experienced warriors on your server for tips… (hint: Skullcracker & GS or sword/shield & hammer).
@ Lola:
I don`t know what to say, a well played mesmer is still one of the most dangerous things to face in wvw. GC Shatter, Staff Condi Hybrids… Do you know your own class? I recommend spending less time complaining and more time playing.
Best regards
@Moon, it’s not that it’s a problem for warriors because we can run runes, foods, and warhorn to easily deal with conditions. The problem is the amount of dmg it did instantly.
Either way, I don’t main a warrior – I main a mesmer, but the point is imagine a mesmer or thief running into the same necro. 15k burst is ridiculously high – a thief would probably be dead – not really sure what the average hp is for them but im assuming around 16-18k… Depending on the mesmer build you’ll be nearly dead and something silly like null field will not remove the conditions fast enough esp if the necro is hybrid condition dmg and duration, and at best a mesmer can heal for around 6k with 3 clones up and traited 200 in to inspiration – 90% chance that burst was aoe so your clones wont last long, you recover around 5k and still have 10 dmg taken – 30s cd till your next heal. Meanwhile a simple weapon swap to scepter and you have stacks of bleed on you in an instant – it’s an extremely tough scenario, which I doubt you would survive yourself unless you were against a baddie.
Instead of quoting l2p like some pro – you should probably take a moment and consider what this means for EVERY class, not just a single one. Great players will get around it one way or another – but it’s a game changer for new ones, and casual ones which makes up the bulk of GW2. Particularly someone like yourself without the insight to see how this can effect others will get rolled regularly by run of the mill necros.
Please don’t tell ppl to l2p when you need to learn to understand – it just makes you look silly.
As it stands, the condition meta is very strong. Esp with thieves and necros. This warrior video showed how strong on interrupt conditions can be… think about how easily mesmers can stack confusion with all their interrupts. But generally speaking Torment was a bad move as well, without being traited it ticks for min 2k if you’re standing still, and double if you’re moving. Try standing still when fighting a thief. Necros now condition bomb and it’s extremely difficult to takeout necros alone – esp if your class has low hp pool. Ppl basically have to respec to fight against necros now.
I’m sorry, its totally and utterly kittened, many times where I would have won a fight while downed ruined by the IWIN stealth stomp, it pretty much counter anything you might do to stop them stomping.
Stealth should be broken on any kittening action taken while in stealth, be it healing, attacking or stomping.
Stealth stomping is the most insanely stupid kitten I have ever seen in any mmo.
Guaranteed when shadow refuge saves you, or you rally off a stealth stomp you’re not complaining, but once you get slapped in the face with it – it becomes an issue. Stealth stomp = stomping with stability, there’s no difference – except that stability is better since you can still get knocked back or stunned while in stealth.
l2p.. if you honestly think stealth is the ONLY way you’re getting stomped then you have other things to think about. You would’ve been stomped either way. Warriors have endure pain, quickness, stability. Guardians can use shields/blocks and stability, necros can cast fear and use death shroud. Eles can mistform. Mesmers can portal, stealth, and distortion stomp…You’re focusing on “stealth” but you don’t realize that EVERY other class can 100% complete a stomp. If your kitten is on CD then l2p and manage your utils better.
This is the most ridiculous thing i’ve ever seen. I don’t understand why ppl QQ about stomping. If you’re on the ground, ANet is being kind enough to say “hopefully someone with more talent comes by and kills the other guy before you get roflstomped”

I love my Mez .. but now I gotta retire her.
Useless in for farming PvE and an expensive, dog slow, stumbling, pin cushion in WvW.Necros are the new light amour, must have, Zerg accessory …. well….. till they Nerf that too.
Leave the Thief’s alone.. at least we know where the trolls are.
The issue is that mesmers don’t have reasonable condition cleansing without giving up utils. The new condition necros with their confusion bombs and engis make things tough. Not to mention the torment spamming p/d thieves that’s become the new meta. I don’t really know who decides on these new skills – but whoever it is at ANet, never learned the meaning of the word balance.
I even read somewhere on the thief forum “if you have torment just don’t move” – really… ? don’t move while fighting a thief… brilliant idea.
Mesmers need better condition cleansing and def more mobility – having to rely on traiting in to the focus skill + 70% boon duration just to keep up with people is really annoying – unless you want runes of the centaur but tbh there are much better runes for mesmers so it’s really not worth it.
Early today my warrior got dispatched around 15k hp from a necro’s condition bomb within a couple seconds. It’s actually pretty bad – and it doesnt require any talent to burst every mark you have on top of people.
Torment itself was a giant facepalm now we have runes of perplexity to add to the escapades of ANet’s dream team.
I have been tracking the effect of “GvG” over the past few weeks on wvw north american T1 matchups . I am going to use the “GvG” ranking site along with score updates from the matchup thread to show my findings. This should put an end to the foolish notion that "GvG it doesn’t effect wvw negatively.
Findings for 8/2/13 match up:
If you guys look at the first picture it is a score update from the morning before the first gvg of 8/2/13 matchup and has blackgate ahead by 10k. The matches and scores at the start of each “GvG” are as follows:1.Mob vs EP 8/4/13(Blackgate vs TC) Blackgate 10k points ahead
2. EP vs Rise 8/6/13 (Blackgate vs TC)
3. Tw vs Re 8/7/13 (Sor vs TC) Sor leads by 3k points
4. Tw vs Tsl 8/8/13 (Sor vs TC) Blackgate leads
the second picture was taken after the 3rd match up and shows the score tied bg then goes to take the lead by 10k. These are obvious examples of the paradigm shift caused by “GvG”.Could “GvG” become the new form of espionage in gw2?
I will post info from current and future match ups aswell.
The people gvg-ing will not be contributing to ppt even if they weren’t gvg-ing… i don’t understand why you have a thread every week whining. Go play your ppt and let others play the game they want to. Why should we play it your way? There’s no rule that we HAVE to go for ppt. Esp when ppt is a show of who has the best coverage – nothing to do with who has more talent. So please – stop crying.
try a condition necro giving you everything in the book plus plenty of stacks of confusion. dropped 15k hp in less than 5s. Torment and this rune of perplexity needs to be fixed.
