Basically all menu’s and stuff are flickering big time. I have no idea why.
Im not running SweetFX or GEMFX and it started after a recent update. I have newest drivers for my Radeon 7950 and everything else (other games) are running without similar uses. Anyone hear of a cause for this? Reddit lead me in circles.
You purchase HoT, it has a core copy that comes with your purchase. If you have previously purchased the GW2 core game (not HoT) within the time frame given and you would like a refund you can contact support to get a refund.
Because HoT comes with the core game they are compensating all those who bought the Core game under the impression that you needed it to get the expansion, before Pre-purchase was announced.
Yeah but that makes no sense, why would they go through all that trouble just to give you the effin HoT expansion? Why not just give the new players a 10$ discount and remove the pre-purchase bonuses? (since the core game was 40$ and the expansion is 50$)…
Who knows… I accept their offer and am contacting their support now.
Pre-purchase HoT, and after you get a refund for your original game, you can use that money to buy a char slot.
Do this. Simple and nothing lost.
Indeed. I got an easy $10 out of this game. I cant complain about this deal, provided HoT has more than the tiny revealed but Im sure it will.
I bought the game in February, I have all my char slots filled and have 3 level 80s. I supported Anet via the gem store. If I read the blog correctly, I don’t get a character slot with kitten stand alone game?
I still have no incentive to not make an alt account, or am I missing something? The problem is I am newer than what Anet considers a veteran player, but I am within the “refund” time. However, I have already put time into my toons.
As it stands it appears that my options are basically.
1. Pay an added fee for the privilege to use content I pay for in HoT
2. Delete my account and lose the time I spent making my level 80s for a refund
3. Wait till G2A sale for HoT
4. Abandon GW2Why not just give GW2 owners a character slot? Is it so hard to give a character slot to an expansion that boasts about having a class as a primary feature?
“If you take advantage of this refund and pre-purchase Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, all of your current account progress will be kept intact. "
Directly from the blog post.
So… you can get your refund for the base game (if u bought it from the website, anyway). Then pre-purchase HoT, which will give you the base game back, and access to the expansion without losing any of your current progress. Then you can take the money from your refund and buy that character slot if you would like to make a rev.
Ahhhh i get it now. okay. i guess ill do that.

I’m kinda tired of how complicated they are making this whole thing. Its like im looking for a shred of decency but I just can’t find it. Upon hearing they added a character slot I was actually thinking about getting some other gem store stuff but I can not support greasy behavior.

Maybe I missed it, but does anyone know how long I have to decide to purchase. It a bit expensive to do all at once atm, and I was just wondering. I know on the website for refunds (not applied to me i know) they say that there a cutoff on July31, so does that means for all purchase?
This is a good question. The right thing to do would be to refund all gem/game purchases because I bought from the gem store in good faith.
Still a bad deal. I got the game after January 23rd, made 3 level 80s and they want me to delete one of my other alts so I can play a reverent? No thanks. terrible business.
Even a white knight should admit the time I spent to make those toons had value.
You also get all the time, enjoyment and experience you’ve had from the game up to HoT.
Look at WoW’s draenor deal. new players can get draenor, and only have to pay $5 for EVERY SINGLE EXPANSION WOW HAS EVER RELEASED, so long as they pay $60 for draenor. That is expansion content that veteran players have spent hundreds of dollars on over the years. There’s no outrage over at the WoW community, because they can grasp what most people here seem incapable of: that the value of a product mostly goes down over time, and that allowing new players an easy access gateway is good for game health.
GW2’s base game now is not worth what it was at launch, and ANet are doing the best they can to ensure that new players are not cut off by a divide or extra expense of buying the expansion or sticking with the base game. it’s a good idea and I support it. This approach is good for game health, it’s good for new players, and in the long run it’s good for veterans, too, who will have more people to play the content with rather than be segregated by pay walls.
Veteran players have had up to three years of content enjoyment, much of that unique and non-repeatable, that newer players will not experience.
I am utterly baffled that people can not grasp this concept that what people paid 3 years ago is not representative of right now.
People that bought the game in recent months who purchased it purely as a gateway to HoT, their upset I can understand, but not long-term veterans. (PSA: GW2 customer services is working out refunds for those who DID buy recently who want instead to just outright buy the expansion)
Ive only had a couple of months tho.
Is that a rumor or did Anet buff veteran accounts with a free GW2 pass?
I’m 100% okay with this as a resolution, its effectively (pricewise) the same as handing out sale-price GW2 accounts, the base game can have ads for HoT plastered all over to advertise to new players that we give the codes to.

Its free with the purchase of HoT. Did you buy HoT yes or no? If yes then you get ONE free copy (mostly to help get new ppl to play it) if no then you do not get it. Look at free shipping / handling with the purchase of a good dose this mean that its free to have you send any thing you want even if you did not buy the good that you must to get this “deal?”
Why do i get the feeling ppl are spending way too much time in the video game world and seemed to have caused them to lose all perception with real world economics.
Is this true? If so then I am satisfied. I will have 2 farming accounts and one HoT account. That makes up for the char slot. Parking 13 alts will be kinda fun actually.
My credentials if this even matters. I have been a GW player from GW1 prophecies and have bought and played every release. Now that’s out if the way..
Let me say I feel bad for Arenanet. This is their big expansion and people are complaining about trivial matters.
I for one am glad they are appealing to new players with a included copy of GW2 with HoT. Ya I know it’s not free yadada.. I was hoping they would do that. I as a veteran player do not feel entitled to anything more. I dont feel ripped off or cheated. Paying $50 for HoT does not bother me even if its a “bundle”. Im happy to pay it and support one of the best mmo’s.
In my opinion Arenanet was trying to do something nice by the bundle deal. People need to stop focusing on this bundle deal and more on the price. is $50 worth it to you? In my opinion it is.
we need to remember Arenanet is a business and they need to make money. If they attract new players this brings in revenue. This benefits veteran players by having more people to play with and this in turn supports Arenanets costs of running a company. Aka servers still running and new content. How quickly do we forget how much we got for $60 on the core game. All the updates and living story. This is a great company and I do believe they truly care about the players.
So flame me or do what ever But I am going to support them and pre purchase.
Nowhere in this wall of text did you invalidate the simple request that the HoT version of GW2 include a character slot. You act like Anet would go bankrupt from doing one decent act. This isn’t even including the false advertising scandal. I bought from the gem store during my brief stint with GW2, cause I wanted to support Anet. They threw that back in my face within like 2 months. Also this “go ahead and flame me” play the victim card made me cringe.

A simple point people don’t seem to understand is that the core game inclusion isn’t influencing the price in any way… it’s just something they threw in so new players that missed the previous sales aren’t stuck behind a huge paywall. They just got lucky to get the game at a lower price than others(free of charge in this case) the same way people got it for 75% less during the recent sales but nobody raised any pitchforks then even though they should have, according to the logic the complaining follows. The expansion itself costs 50$, you’d be paying that regardless of core game inclusion. Nobody is forcing you to pay extra for something you already have. Think of it as a 100% discount product you don’t have to put in your basket separately.
As for the pricing itself, $40 to $50 is just standard pricing for MMO expansions. And saying there’s not enough content to justify the price isn’t valid because we don’t know how much content there actually is. Which is where the magic of pre-purchasing kicks in… you don’t have to buy it now if you don’t feel you know enough. Pre-purchasing is an optional gesture of faith from the consumers. The game didn’t release yet. Anet isn’t demanding that we pay for the game now and then releasing it in a week or two from now. The game is several months from being ready. In fact, Anet isn’t demanding anything and people are hatemongering for no real reason. The game isn’t going live with just the things that were revealed up until now, and I don’t know why people are acting like it is. There’s still months of reveals ahead of us. Just stop with the pointless, and frankly baseless anger and hatred.Base game on sale at Amazon for $16 on May 6, 2015.

Stand alone expansion lets call it $30
Total $46.00The cheapest expansion is slightly more than that.
Why even sell it? It would be way more decent to let preordering customers simply access the base game right? oh yea, this is anet.

Just bought the game about a month and a half ago and im a little dissapointed that ill basically have to buy it again.
I really hope the content that hasnt been revelaed yet, like the “challenging group content”, is epic because honestly there are a lot of other games/expansions coming out soon. heavensward(ff14), Wildstar( going F2p) , etc.
Anet making a joke out of this is discouraging and not really helping the situation. You want my $50? sure thing, but first show me all of what im buying. thanks.
What joke did they make?
$ 50 for expansion + core game free for new players.
And the older players who have kept alive their play?
An upgrade to deluxe edition or if you already have a discount on this expansion.
But no.
ANet creates very little expansion, puts an exorbitant price and laughs in the face of the veteran players.
CONGRATULATIONS ARENA NET, I will not buy this expansion.
Couldn’t just add this to the other 3+ pages of threads that are all saying the same thing?
Very little expansion? Once again we have someone with a time machine that has experienced the entire expansion.
I think its better for the forum to have wall to wall threads about this. Its Anets new image.

I purchased ESO the other day just for something different this was before the pre release debacle and its almost seeming now like I did it at the perfect time.
Let me know how ESO is seeing as it started as a pay sub fee and changed to a buy to play, I’d say it bombed pretty hard.
They are so focused on making this game a PvP type game that the PVE community is ignored and often pushed aside
PVE gets the most updates out of all three game modes. I dare you to go post in the WvW forums and say the WvW players have gotten more updates than the PVE players have.
My friend has ESO, I watched him play for a while. Game is pretty awesome if you like Skyrim..
He seems pretty bob-on with his summary.
His channel is actually on my block list so the link takes me back to the main page, lol.
I don’t do cheerleading channels, I have the Guild Wars 2 (new) FAQ for that.

Give them to veterans for the new class. Give those of us who were conned by the FAQ something as compensation for the damages (as we did not have the play time to justify parity with veterans), and leave the base version as it is. This is well within their power.
You still need GW2 to play HoT. Most people have been playing GW2 for a long time. Just because Anet is including GW2 with HoT does not mean you or any veteran player has suffered any actual damages.
Yet another freshly made Anet damage control account.. This is just getting pathetic.
Nice try Anet.

I started the game just over a month ago. I find the lack of response to veteran players’ anger to be very disappointing.. I also feel Anet will get away with it because the fanbase loves the game so much. Some are so grateful for new content they are defending Anet’s policy.
However, as a new player I have no deep connection with the game so I need to leave aa soon as possible before I get attached.
It’s not really about the money, it’s trivial compared to my mortgage and bills. It’s more about their disregard for existing customers.

Frankly I don’t think the argument “other MMO’s are doing it” is a good reason to defend poor customer treatment, and an overpriced product.
Thats because it is a logical fallacy that only a fanboy would attempt.
http://skepdic.com/adpopulum.html
There was a red post on Reddit where they announced that they would “help anyone out who just bought the core game and would like to make the change to a HoT pre-purchase”.
It won’t be automatic and I don’t know to what extent they will offer that help, but I guess that if you specifically bought the game to be able to get the extension you have some chances of getting it.
It wont be automatically and I am fairly certain the amount of people that will request it is not even close to the amount of sales they made and while some will be refunded so that Anet can look like nice guys, they will still have scammed a lot more people.
This, they are cunning.
Yes anet did change their FAQ and I get that, people are mad. But you guys go straight to the negative and assume the very worste which is you just got scammed. You have no proof of this however, maybe they did just come up with it at the last second and added the core game into the HoT price. So, what if they did rip you off $7-$50, it rly isn’t that much considering the thousands of hours many of you have put in the game AND the money is just going back into the game, so what does it matter, most of you probably would of spent the money on gems anyways.
With this it makes the game so much easier for new players to get into and the vets shouldn’t be complaining. They got all of living story 2 for free(If they logged on), all of living story 1 which the new players may never get to play, all the holiday activies FOR FREE. So I dont care if they charge us $50 because with all of the stuff they have given us for free I’m willing to pay it. Not to mention that all the new players coming in will need a place to go and will possibly end up in you’re guild or friendlist.
And for the people complaining about not getting a character slot… YOU CAN GET THE GOLD IN LESS THAN 2 WEEKS. I don’t see what the problem is. And if you are a vet you will already have the money, so I dont see the problem on why you can’t purchase a character slot in game.
People also need to realize that this xpac isn’t primarily focused on the content side, more on the feature side. They told all of us this early on that they were just finding their feet on how they wanted to continue progressing the game. So don’t just say , oh it has 3 maps and a new class not worth it. It also comes with PLENTY of features to keep us busy for hours and hours to come.
Proof is that the scam occurred lol… are u ok op? Cause like, this appears hardly even debatable by US consumer law standards, and ours are pretty business-sided. I think YOU should pay the $50 and stay with the sinking ship, and I will move to another game unless Anet fixes their mess up.

Day 3 of the Siege of Thorns. Keep at ‘em, they’re weakening!
No loyal veteran customer base should be reduced to groveling for a fair deal. That’s what’s happening here. Instead of just giving us the two slots with standard, just like they did for EoTN, they have everyone begging for just one. Then you have the absolute victims who are doing anything they can to justify their enjoyment of the beating.
Consumerist Stockholm Syndrome.
Then there are the users like me who will happily give the money to Anets competition. Anet love ultimatums, as do I in cases like this, for consumers that will flee to the other great mmos coming out there will be lots of developers happy to take Anets business.
I think they are gravely misjudging the pulling power of Fallout and FF….At the very least..Not MMO’s but amazing franchises with new stuff coming that costs money. The same money they could choose to spend on HoT, but might not because those other franchises, oooooh….
This, $50 is a lot to ask post e3. Anet lost their reputation this week, so loyalty is out. Now its down to brass tax, what does this title have to offer over the competition?
Fallout 4, Heavensword, Black Desert Online ($50 will get u some srs kitten), Doom, Final Fantasy 15, Elder Scrolls Online, WildStar, Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous.
Anet needs to sweeten this deal, Maguuma won’t cut it (I was in beta), and this slap in the face is like telling me to go to BDO or just use this for Fallout 4.

I don’t see any slight to the “veteran” player base. If the pricing was $50 for the expansion and $60 for both, I don’t think anyone would complain.
If Anet does give into all the hoopla, I think those who have pre-purchased HoT (let’s call them the HoT veteran player base) should get even more out of principle. Otherwise, Anet is insulting the HoT veteran player base.
The solution is simple, character slots.
Give them to veterans for the new class. Give those of us who were conned by the FAQ something as compensation for the damages (as we did not have the play time to justify parity with veterans), and leave the base version as it is. This is well within their power.

well… i know people that bought the game 1-2 months ago like myself
- i dont even know what you mean with face
- i didnt experience the festival events and seasoned events like you did
- i don’t even know what LA is
- i’ve never fought marionette like you did cause that is all gone and done
- sab what?
- i didn’t get to farm aetherblades in zones and have tons of champs spawningThose are just a few examples but so many other open world events that i will never experience even if they do get a “Bonus” free version of the core game.
Me either with all of these, in fact, most the good farming was nerfed before I got the game cause Anet are like that. I actually get less for my money than other vets. The people in the middle really got the weakest deal here.
I don’t know how its hard to understand the frustration of others.
Maybe its because frustrated people usually say stuff that really makes no sense since they only see it their way instead of seeing the big picture?
I get frustrated as do so many people. I say things out of frustration. Once I actually stop and think, I usually say in my head “wow that was silly of me to get so frustrated over something like that”
You have the right to be frustrated but most people that post out of frustration never see the big picture.
So many are still stuck on not getting something free because new players are getting a freebie. Some are stuck on the price and you have every right to be since everyone doesn’t have the same budget. Some are still stuck on not getting a free character slot when the game starts you with 5 and has 8 professions to begin with.
The big picture I see it as Anet wants to bring in more players into this game. A game needs players to continue to grow. Without players it will most likely die. Yes people will leave this game but I’d put money on that they will gain a lot more players then those that actually do leave.
Only time will tell. You can stick around and help this game grow even more or you can leave and be replaced by someone else who will. It is your choice.
TL;DR. The wall of text can’t counter the false advertising claim or the fact that Anet have become cheapskates compared to their former selves, GW1 expansions having 2 character slots and way more content for example.
Why is everybody ignoring the fact that there are no monthlies?Yeah the xpac is kinda expensive but on the long run its actually cheaper than any expansion out there.Take for example WoW.You pay 40euros and then 15euros every month where in GW2 you are gonna pay 50 euros for the expac and you are done.I’m not tryna be a fanboy or somethin im just sayin that its cheaper than any other paid mmo on the long run of course.
Edit:Yea its a kitten move to the old players and those that recently bought it(not pre-purchase)but its still cheaper.
Cause its irrelevant, false advertising is not countered by this useless information and due to the microtransactions your argument is null for anyone that uses the gem store. Further, its a kitten move to not allow a day-1 revenanat without an added fee to an already over-priced dlc pack.

I was just reading, after the final beta, Black Desert Online is absolutely not p2w, it actually copied GW2’s gem store (mostly cosmetic).
So. I can spend $50 on a dev that spat in my face or one with a clean slate, I hope we hear from Anet soon cause their game is n64 compared to BDO. I WANT to stay with GW2 but I have no incentive having only had the game for a couple months.
The prepurchase bundle includes free access to the base game to new players.
No where does it state that this will be the case after prepurchases, and I believe the FAQ even specifies that this is a preorder-exclusive offer for new players.
This is what the FAQ says:
Q: Do I have to own Guild Wars 2 to play the expansion?
A: Yes, but Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns includes the Guild Wars 2 core game.Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns includes the core game, therefore it’s a standalone. No pre-purchase exclusivity clause, either.
I’m sure in due time the FAQ will change without notice to reflect whatever new deal Anet comes up with.
Too late. If I were a class action attorney I’d be drooling.
Can we stop the disinformation?
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3a95r8/to_those_who_said_anet_will_support_people_who/
HoT will ALWAYS include the base game. Period.
It’s not that easy. Many have already bought the packages and it will get pretty hairy when they change their minds now.
They’ve already thrown poor Gaile at us, who can still rely on her considerable pool of respect from days past, to do some patch up work. I doubt there will be much of a reaction other than that.
That means next to nothing for new users like myself, I want to know why I am being forced to forfeit a toon for an “expansion” or cave into the ultimatum and buy a slot, thereby making the game cost $60 for me.
I think the lack of attention for the Infinite Continue Coin (which people paid money for and has been useless, without refunds, for more than a year and a half) bodes poorly for this.
The price is reasonable, and unless you’re actually part of the loyal fan base and had all of the little stuff build up (piles of Queen Jennahs, Frac leaderboard, content droughts, NPE, trait debacle, lack of communication etc.) then I’m not even sure the lack of a character slot will get attention.
This is a slap in the face of long time players, but if the ICC wasn’t (which is horse armour territory), I don’t think this is gonna be news.
Fraud is always news. The ICC is so specific to GW2 I wouldnt be able to explain it to someone that doesn’t play. Bait and switch is a timeless maneuver though. Anet went oldschool.

Let’s see 2 cases below:
CASE 1:
I go to burger shop to buy a burger.
The price of a burger at 15:00-19:00 is $20.
I still want French Fries and coke ($20) which are only available after 19:00.
At 19:01, waitress says we’re offering big discount now, buying French fries and coke get free burger!CASE 2:
The price of a burger at 15:00-19:00 is still $20.
French Fries and coke ($20) only available after 19:00.
At 19:01, the waitress says: we’re offering discount now, burger costs $10 only. So if you want a burger, French fries and coke, the total price is $30. (No more burger, thanks!)
Anyway, Thanks for waiting for French fries and coke, we’ll offer discount and coupon to customers who bought burger before 19:00.Which case you think is more reasonable?
TL;DR
we dont need allegories, we have precedent.

What do I Tell Friends Interested in GW2?

I’d say, as of today, to try Black Desert Online and if its p2w then get HoT on G2A or Christmas sale.
Most stores don’t warn you of a sale. I just get a flyer in the Sunday paper, same day it starts. They did say they’d help people out who just bought it.
But they told people that it was needed during a sale, and did not qualify it with a warning or disclaimer that it would be a stand alone at any point, thereby deceiving consumers. This isn’t like buying something full price before a sale, its like being told “you need this to play this” but then deleting the evidence they said it then changing the policy to “temporarily dont need this to play this”.
Character Slot for Heart of Thorns? [Merged]

Wouldn’t it be fair if ANet just provide 5 new character slots for old and new player alike? You pay $50, you all shall get 5 more slots. If you don’t have any now, you’ll get 5. If you have 5, you get 5 more. The contents of the original GW2 and HoT are all inclusive. Let’s just make it simple. You’re basically paying for the slots.
Fair isn’t in Anets blood apparently, can’t even detect decency.

And for those that are saying they just recently bought the game and feel shafted now… If you already knew an expansion was coming out, surely you knew you were going to be paying for it?
They feel shafted because the wording of the original FAQs page indicated the base game and HoT would be 2 separate purchases and it isn’t. It’s a one-time purchase for both games that the vast majority would have waited to buy together if they’d had any indication of that possibility at all.
Ok, that is a solid point. I had no idea about the FAQ issue. I’ve been wading through all the outcries and must have missed that.
I change my stance on people that recently purchased the game. That said, veterans of the game saying they feel shafted I just can’t wrap my mind around.
Anet: Because of the “Look heres a revenant”
Veteran: ok heres money
Anet: SYKE! 800gem/$10/upgrade. Hahahah
Veteran is now conflicted about buying.
Most of these youtube ‘celebs’ sound like they’re reading A.net scripts regarding this stuff. Usually could care less about those peeps but it was pretty sick to hear.
Plus its pretty hard to take someone seriously when they start with “I have no contractual abligation to praise anet….even after they agreed to sponsor my vids, and FLY me to so and so” —https://youtu.be/edSCWmsZyjI--
Daaaaang, i’ve been kissing the wrong asx ever since GW1
If they are “celebs” that specialize in GW2 then yea I wouldn’t trust em, I only go for top quality journalists. MMO-niche journalism has a “reputation”.
This I love, the real, raw, relatable stuff. Not the mildly controversial, stuff that sinks your heart but makes you cackle wildly soon after.
Thats why I like TB, he also does commentating on some of the best SC2 matches and other tournament-stuff.
You still need the base game to play. That didn’t change. They are just giving it free if you prepurchase.
They didnt mention that on the FAQ they altered. I think a court would see it this way as well, omitting temporal details to deceive a customer is still false advertising afaik.

Easy option would be to just include 800 gems with it if the user adds it to an existing gw2 account as show of support for loyal fans.
They should hire you. I am not kidding.
And then check the idiot(s) for drug testing that decided it was ok to post a faqs that they will eventually change.
But make sure to keep their records, if this isn’t fixed to my satisfaction I will happily sign that class action.

Then the recent buyers who were defrauded will need more as well. (more than previous, as they were conned and not just disrespected).
Those that read the FAQ while not on a sale I believe suffered a $40 damage.

GW2 released with five character slots and eight professions.
Your own opening post says you paid for three additional slots, presumably without a care or a million-thread forum kerfuffle.
A slot costs ten bucks. Skip a Big Mac combo one day and play your Revenant for years to come. I really don’t see what the giant deal is over the slots thing is. There’s other things to be bothered about. And a million threads in which to be bothered.
White knight all you want, these issues won’t go away as the people bothered are speaking out.
Im forwarding these threads to all the major YouTube channels I watch, such as TotalBiscuit. I suggest you ALL do the same. This needs to be covered immediately before they ninja-fix the FAQ and alter the evidence (not that it isnt already too late for that lol).
Look i’m unhappy with the price but I don’t think we need to take up pitchforks on the internet. Quite frankly if I saw another game do this and there was some news about it I would not care in the slightest.
Is there a part about false advertisment u guys are not getting?
http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/False+Advertising
I’m pretty sure Angry Joe will have something to say about this, but give them time, most of them are covering E3.
I can’t wait for that moment, if it does happen, it will be legendary.
I want Sterling and TotalBiscuit on this one. Oh man… that no BS voice that TB has is perfect for Anets latest scandal. Hes seriously the Larry King of gaming journalists.

FUN FACT TIME:
… You would have enough money to buy the Ultimate edition, even if you only wanted the standard version.
I just briefly glimpsed over the official announcement date(s) and most specify 24th January 2015.
Since then it’s been around 149 days, correct me if I’m wrong, haha.
So that’s $149 total @ $1 per day saved since that date.
Ultimate edition is $99.99 USD (pretty much ~$135.00 AUD)
You’d have enough money to buy x 1 of any available editions.
Is there anyone else who saved some form of money since the announcement for this expansion?
I’m still waiting on any further details before buying, just in case!
I have enough to buy it, but out of moral integrity I will not support greasy business practice. Guess a game isnt worth that much to me.
