What about spend a couple of hours and level those sweat fractal masteries and have fun there?

The design id far superior imho, and you can work towards your legendary backpack, too.

Fractals aren’t the same as these dungeons where fond memories have happened. I learned how to actually play the game better by taking on dungeon master. I learned how to dungeon better and spvp better by taking on dungeoneer.

I have done fractals and will probably do more in the future but that isn’t the point of requesting a nerf-reversal on something unrelated to fractals.
No fractal is going to replace my love of the story/explorable dungeons.

I would like to add an example for when this has happened. Ectoplasm is a material and a currency. You don’t have to carry ectoplasm around to use it. It sits nicely in the bank. They have already proven they know how to program the game so that you can have things in your bank (not wallet) and use them from the bank at a vendor. So, I agree with this whole thread – all keys, scraps/tickets, currencies, mats, etc should be either in the bank and usable as a currency if needed or in the wallet.

Am I Reading this correctly?

Mastery system. Not the specialization system. That’s what ArenaNet said would be the “kind of progression after level 80 that would take longer than 1 afternoon”.

It was a massive mistake to gate the specializations behind a grind wall. It’s obvious that, after 3 years of a very stale game, people would like to explore the new content with the new skills and traits. If unlocking the specializations didn’t require such a grind, we would have significantly less complaining here.

This X 1000. I am more than happy having to unlock all the new masteries whilst discovering all the jungle has to offer. But even though I have 21000 AP, map completion on all of my 9 characters, I am forced to find others to get my full elite spec.

If they were to reduce the amount to 200 or so for all the trait lines it would have shown you to have actually put in some effort either in Tyria or the new maps, but when they gate it, not only behind group events, but also masteries it becomes a chore.

Why is rewarding your veterans such a bad thing?

Right now 4/10

I played more than I ever play on a given weekend and looking back I feel like I should have gotten farther than I did for the hours I invested which is why I am falling into the “too much grind” outweighing the “fun I should have had playing the new content.” I am happy to have new things to do, but I’m having to focus too much on maximize that XP! to be able to enjoy the new content.

Some of the things I feel have already been said but I want to add things that make the game lean towards grinding for me personally:

-As an alt-o-holic, I don’t want to do the massive hero-point acquisition 20 times for all my toons. I made a new mesmer before HoT released for chronomancer so I wouldn’t need to regear my other two, one of which has world map completion. With the way the hero points unlock being “soulbound” – I am forced into taking my main mesmer and finishing her hero points off to get chronomancer or go with a gear-less toon or spend money on gear that won’t be as effective until I unlock the elite… Now times this by 9 because I have multiples in each profession and it is usually my alts I experiment with, not my mains who have more hero points to begin with. I think the elite spec should be account bound since they make it so much harder to get. I don’t mind that it is hard, but I do mind the redundancy.

-My second qualm is the manipulative blocks/nerfs that are sprinkled into many aspects of the game. Why shoehorn players into the new content? The mastery “grind” that is happening right now would be less “grindy” if players got to unlock them and earn XP the way they enjoy best. The joy part mixed with variety is what removes the grind status. Things with blocks right now: Hero Points in the beginning HoT map that need very advanced masteries, spvp ranks 1-9 can’t be in conquest but guild missions need conquest, dungeon loot nerf means LFG is dead so dungeons are gone, need fractal mastery unlocked to reap rewards of doing fractal and fractals give less XP towards masteries, halloween doesn’t give you XP towards masteries, the beginning map for HoT blocks players from exploring who haven’t gotten masteries.

-The masteries seem unnatural in their function compared to their acquisition. The masteries unlock when you do something related to what you are unlocking. It would be awesome to glide a lot which would unlock gliding masteries, craft a lot to unlock crafting masteries, gather in HoT to unlock gathering masteries, talk to NPCs a lot to unlock speech, do fractal runs to unlock fractal masteries, etc. There should also be more of them: spvp, wvw, dungeons, personal story.

HP should be account bound not soulbound. That would fix a lot of problems because then I could take pre-existing HP from one toon and sacrifice it for the toon I really want the elite spec on. You still have to earn HP. You still have to play, but at least you have some options which feels less like a grind – AND – you get to have one of your toons have the elite spec almost right away if you really want it.

One of my absolute favorite things about the Core game WAS the classic dungeons. I loved doing them and teaching them. Now LFG is dead and rewards make it feel pointless. Even guild run requests are responded with crickets. A whole new generation of GW2 players are going to miss out on something I spent so much time on and enjoyed up until the expansion. RIP one of my favorite things…

Shouldn’t dungeons get a mastery and restructuring like fractals? Instead of nerfing loot for something that might seem too easy now, make the dungeons have a harder option. The challenge motes from the Living Story Season 2 achievements are a mechanic that could give a face lift to the old dungeon system, making the dungeons more challenging which should/could then give better rewards for dungeons.

It is also absolutely a kick in the pants to veteran players to take content that is part of the Core game (which they paid for – I’m not caring about F2P) and block it behind masteries, as they did with the fractals. I have purchased HoT, but now all my non-HoT friends are becoming more and more upset with the Core game and it is only a matter of time before they ditch.

It doesn’t make sense to have guilds do spvp guild missions which specifically require conquest, then block conquest from all new spvpers.

We had to ask a new guildie to leave our party so we could achieve the goal, when our guild generally has always had a “no man left behind” attitude towards all our guild missions. Guild missions should be time for developing new friendships and strengthening old ones, with anyone who wants to participate being able to do so.

Will we ever see Masteries in PvP?

I think all aspects of the game should have masteries and once you are pvp rank 80, rank points should at least contribute to one of your currently activated masteries,

This whole blow up about the purchasing options reminds me of having my guild chat window broken for 6 weeks and how I felt like anet was missing a basic understanding of what is gamebreaking for its audience/supporters/fans. An (expensive but I will pay it) expansion without a character slot for the new content is misunderstanding many in the community. Including a new version of the original game for everyone, no matter if they already own one (or two…), is lazy, greedy, and disrespectful. It isn’t hard to differentiate new from existing players especially since most of us would sort ourselves into the two groups upon purchasing the expansion if asked to do so. Like I said, I am willing to pay the prices listed, but I support the solution of an equal value but usable option rather than a (useless because not a game key) copy of the original game.

Official response re HoT inclusions.

I agree that some sort of compensation worth $10 is in order for people with accounts. It could be as simple as a key for another account that can be separate from the expansion, gems, a character slot, or making an option that is $10 cheaper for each and every option available for pre-order.

The same kinda problems for me. I sent in a bug report ticket. I tried leaving all guilds and it worked for all except the one I want to chat in the most.

It has been difficult since I’m in transitions between guilds and trying to get to know people.

I rep one guild and no one in that guild can see it, but then someone from a different guild whispers me that they just saw what I wrote, even though even I can’t see it. I have to go invis/uninvis to get anything to work even part of the time. It’s really frustrating for me and the friends. I’m getting sick of “you are not in a guild” and “no one hears you” even when it should be working.

Guild Chat broken for me.
