Thinking about getting GW1 for HoM

I do enjoy the story and the lore of GW2 so I guess I might get GW1 later on to learn the roots of the game and settle for 30 HoM points. I just purchased HoT and PoF recently so I still have to catch up to the current storyline of GW2 then I may consider picking up GW1 afterwards.

I’ve been playing GW2 for 2 months now and just recently discovered about all the items one can get from HoM if they played GW1 in the past so my question is as a new GW2 player with no experience with GW1 at all should I buy GW1 just to farm those points?

I was a bit disappointed when I found out that I can only get GWAMM through playing GW1 and getting 50 points because I really want that title too. I wish ANET could give another option to be able to purchase those titles and skins from HoM for new players that never played GW1 in the past.

Not sure if this will matter to you or not, but GWAMM has nothing to do with HoM points.

Instead, you have to achieve 30 maxed in-game title tracks. This is enough of a daunting task since it usually involves doing every single mission in normal and hard mode, vaquishing every single zone, mapping the entire game to 100%, and a lot more.

50 HoM points give a completely different title.

I see, I thought it was when a player reach 50 HoM points that they unlock GWAMM. I enjoy playing GW2 a lot that it only took me 1 week to level a necro to 80 and another week to finish world map completion and I did the same for my warrior so within 1 month I had two maxed out characters with 100% world map completion and fully equipped with exotics. It did not feel like a daunting task at all to me because I was enjoying throughout the experience. What you’re describing here sounds very similar to GW2 so maybe it would be a different experience for myself.

I imagine myself getting to 30 HoM points if that’s all I need to do, but my main concern is that I cannot guarantee myself to get to 50 since I will be required to interact with players to trade and who knows how the population is now. If it’s possible to achieve 50 HoM points and complete the 30 in-game titles by playing solo then I might purchase GW1 because at the very least I can guarantee myself that I can dedicate my time and effort to do it.

Thanks for all the input guys after much thought and consideration I decided that I will not buy GW1 at this point because it may very much be a trap for someone who desires HoM 50 points at this end stage life of the game. I will focus all my time in GW2 instead of wasting money on GW1.

No. There should not be another way to earn HoM items if you do not own and have played GW1. Those titles and items are there to reward those who played GW1.

And I’m someone who doesn’t own GW1 either.

If you want the title bad enough to warrant buying GW1 and playing it enough for the points needed, then buy GW1 and play it. Otherwise, you’re out of luck until you want it bad enough to do so.

Would you risk buying GW1 to get the skins and titles from HoM at this stage of the game?

Thanks for the input guys really appreciate it. Honestly, I only care about two things and they are the fire blade and GWAMM and I could really care less about the rest. If Anet decide to sell GWAMM for $100 I would take it. But seeing that it requires 50 and its difficult to get 50 without trading minis to other players I’m not sure if its worth buying and no guarantee I can get to 50.

I don’t know; you don’t really need a good population, as every map is instanced. Heroes and Henchmen take the place of players in those maps. I suppose what a bigger population offers is more people to trade with, to bypass some of the requirements to fill the Hall of Monuments. And, maybe, a couple of HM Missions that require 2 or more players. Still, I think there are enough possible avenues to get points (just as with Mastery Points in GW2) that that would not be a deterrent.

I see, how long do you think it would take me to get to at least 30 if I play 12-15 hours a day? Which is how much I actually play GW2 lol

I just hope that once I become a GW2 veteran that Anet do something for us when they finally decide to release a GW3 lol. Within my 2 months of play time I’ve already leveled up a necro and warrior to lvl 80 with 100% world map completion on both and fully equipped with exotic gear. I put a lot of hours into GW2 and I can do the same with GW1 if it’s still playable with good population.

If it’s laggy and empty population then I will not waste money buying it and trying to play with lots of frustrations in the game.

As for making so much more money? They will make money when you purchase Guild Wars Prophesies, Factions, Nightfall and/or Eye of the North.

Good luck.

IF I purchase those but if I don’t then they wouldn’t either.

And you will not reap the rewards, as it should be. These are Guild Wars Vets rewards, and like the Celebration Hat, etc., should only be attainable by completing the reward requirements.

Fair enough I guess, thanks for the input.

I bought gw1 purely for the minis you get for HOM points. I ended up loving gw1 and playing it all the way through, including some hard mode. I really dont think that HOM rewards should be available on the gem store at all. Its a really bad idea and will anger many gw vets. If you want them, they are avilable still by playing gw1.

Is it possible to get to 50 playing it solo? At this late stage of the game how is the population?

Why can’t Anet make those titles and skins available for purchase they would make so much more money from players like me. I just found out too that there is no jump feature in GW1 which means there won’t be jumping puzzles which I enjoy a lot in GW2. Sigh.

Wow that made so much sense I wonder why nobody could explain this to me in game. This means that I have a full set of berserker gear since I focused on power, precision, and ferocity stats with power being the primary highest of the 3.

Thanks a lot for helping a noob!

Hello, I’ve only been playing for 2 months now with a level 80 power reaper with full exotics. Someone told me that I should get a full set of berserker but whenever I look in the trading post I see that the stats for berserker are the same stats as the cheaper exotics I’ve bought so why do people tell me that I should get a full set of specific armor if the stats of my current exotics are the same? And why are berserker more expensive than the exotics I have when they are exactly the same stats?

I am looking particularly for a wingset as a back for my norn with the current outfit. I found an alternative wings while the white/black feather wingset is currently unavailable. Thanks all for the helpful tips and links

if you can’t wait for the wings to appear in the gem-store, there’s also the angelic backplate from Dwayna, (small wings, but I like them better than the cape-like giant wings)

My only character in the game right now is a Norn though so I’m not sure that would look good on him lol

Well.. it’s all the advice I have to give..
maybe.. by the Miniaturizing Tonic in the Doric Lakestead?

This is my character right now and I am looking for a good back for him. The feather wings would’ve been the perfect back for my taste though.

I have searched this question through google with no luck of finding an answer and I also asked in-game with no luck of anyone replying to my question. I am a new player that has the Heart of Thorns expansion pack and I would really like to have the white feather wings backpack on my character, but I have no idea where to get it. Is it in the HoT zone? If so, is it possible for a low level to get there just to acquire the wings? If not, where can I get it? Is it something I can buy?
