Ranger is great in WVW if you know how to play and you can deal with being made fun of constantly. I’ve been playing my ranger as front line melee for over a year and have had no problems with survivability or getting bags. That being said your utility to the zerg is practically nil except you can blast your own water field. PVT gear, RAO and stick very close to your cmd and you’ll be fine.

144843 ticket still. This ticket was not resolved successfully. I just need my password reset, why does it take 5 days, 3 GMS and nothing gets done?

I’ve played a ranger up to bronze something or other before I switched to guardian for more bags (because ranger is a bag machine, but guardian even more so). I don’t call myself an expert or anything but having played ranger long enough and gotten enough grief for it I think I’m an expert in what is wrong with ranger.

There’s 2 issues with ranger.

1. PVE’rs playing rangers in WVW in zerk gear badly providing rally bait to enemy players. Enough said.

2. Actual WVW rangers played well are still pretty useless to the WVW meta. The problem here is if you use the traits and gear that will keep you alive in the zerg you’re doing nothing for the rest of the players except for blasting your own water field. You have practically no group synergy and you’re basically a solo player riding the crest of the zerg wave for bags.

Problem 1 is unfixable and problem 2 is anet’s problem unless someone out there can come up with a build that actually helps the zerg (and maybe that’s spirit build in next week’s patch but I ain’t holding my breath).

All that being said I know on BG they were calling for water fields and blast a lot this past week and none were forthcoming so I might switch back to ranger > >

Seriously, who didn’t know BG was going to win before this whole thing even started? I admit I got a bit worried when a few of our guilds transferred, but not that worried.

As a BG not-in-huge-wvw-guild person it’s always been the community that makes BG great to me. Whether it’s Teq or seasons or whatever, BG always has certain things going for it.

To whit:
1. Not a lot of kitten. People actually submit to the will of the commanders and do what they’re told. If they don’t or if a certain commander is a kitten we’ll all ignore him/her because politeness is important on BG.

2. Politeness. Not very many commanders flip out and yell at pugs. I know they want to, badly, but they don’t. They just sigh, adjust their tactics and move on. I’ve seen it umpteen times on EBG, I know commanders wanted to yell at me a time or two and I’ve certainly deserved it, but no yelling, just sigh and adjust tactics.

3. Coordination. If we’re lacking bloodlust, for instance, someone on the ebg channel will ask the borderland maps to please obtain it. Voila, it’s done. Map assignments, which I can’t see cuz i’m a pug, are done weekly and everyone on the BWC knows who goes where at what time/day and BGers know what the objectives are because we’re given them every week.

4. We’re rich. Maybe not everyone on BG is rich but dear god in heaven people, how many twilights are on this server? Now, ask yourself why we’re rich? The answer is the above 3 points.

So, hope I haven’t given any of our secrets away, but like in any workplace/community/country it’s the culture that’s important above anything else. When you get your culture together anything is possible.

This, again, is the view of someone who is not in a big guild or makes any decisions about anything for BG, but I feel the effects every day and it makes me love BG and put in 15 hour days in wvw. If the above things weren’t true, I’d have transferred already.

I blame JQ for everything. When my monitor died yesterday, JQ did it. The other day I stubbed my toe, it was JQ disguised as a couch (dang mystery tonics). Government shutdown, JQ did it. Really, everything in the world that goes wrong can be laid solidly at JQ’s feet.

BTW, to the Anet employee on JQ who trolled us by running around apparently alone but who was actually part of a huge JQ zerg who killed us 2 seconds later, well played, sir or ma’am, well played.

Moved here from DB when BG steamrolled us in WVW. Since then I’ve seen a few guilds come and go, but no matter who’s in charge that particular day the WVW peeps are friendly and helpful and run a tight ship. Nearly half of my guild has moved to BG since I did and some of them don’t even WVW. They were impressed with the community of the server no matter what people are doing when they guested over and decided to stay.

With the league play starting up in two weeks it’s understandable that people and guilds want to go where they feel they can make the most impact and some servers are going to suffer big time (will the last person on DB EBG please turn out the lights?) and some are going to go from full to Thanksgiving dinner stuffed (SoR) but remember this: no matter what happens, winners never quit and quitters never win. BG don’t quit.

FC was one of the first servers that BG guested to help, fyi.

Obedient is the exact word i’m looking for. This event is war, war needs a commander, you obey your commander. Fun comes when you obey commander and you beat teq along with 150 or so well organized and obedient people and you get your title and your cheevs. that’s fun or i wouldn’t have done teq 7 times now. Teq is hella fun for the obedient

Refer to my how to beat teq, for the obedient thread. If you’re not willing to follow instructions then quit yer kittenin’. There’s no reason anyone should be posting i can’t get in posts at this point. All my guild has their achievements done and they don’t even live on blackgate.

Hi everyone who hasn’t beaten teq yet and is willing to follow instructions! Having beaten teq 7 times and counting I am going to give you the teq beating strategy.

1. guest over to blackgate, deso or other servers who beat teq regularly.
2. zone into sparkfly overflow.
3. ask map what the ts information is or wait for it to be spammed.
4. log into TS, move to teq channel. Go to the chat text box and ask for a main map invite.
5. side note, for the loners, shy people and rebels – you don’t ever have to speak on TS.
6. Once in a main map party zone in from maelstrom/bloodtide repeatedly until you get in. Now, this part may take a minute or it might take hours. The trick is be on TS and listen to the chat, once the event ends you will get in if you are not afk and you are actively zoning in and out. Results may vary but all my off server guildies generally get in within an hour. Be patient.
7. Once you’re in listen to commanders and do what you’re told when you’re told to do it to the best of your ability.
8. Beat teq (one hopes).

There may be other ways to beat teq, but they don’t work as well as the above method. If you’re more concerned with kittening about how Anet did the event or with doing things your own way…this method is not for you.

I promise you all you have to do is kill one mob inside the orange circle and then kill teq. The way I did it is i ran to each battery early in the phase and killed a mob then went to whatever battery needed help the most. You do not need to defend a battery in each phase nor do you need to kill at megalaser.

BG just downed him again.

The way I see it, Anet wants us to farm. There was karka farming. I farmed that. Then the pavilion. I farmed that. Champion zerg in CS and FGS. I farmed that. Then, you can make 20 gold an hour if you farm the gauntlet! And then it was as if Anet thought that wasn’t quite good enough. How about 45 minute zergs with just enough time to sell stuff and get a snack before another 45 minute farm? How do you like them apples, player base? Huh? Is that enough mindless fun/money for you now?

What are video games about anyway? As far as I see it it’s hanging out with your friends, killing monsters, making money. That’s what the map zergs are. I have more fun with my guildies farming aethers than we’ve had in ages.

On the other hand I do sort of feel like a Chinese gold farmer.

A group of us karka farmed for about 5 hours yesterday. We had magic find ranging from 200 to 411. The two guys with over 400 magic find got noticeably better drops than anyone under the 400 range, powerful bloods, lots of rares and a few exotics and rare dyes. At 370 whenever they got a powerful I got a potent, they got a powerful i got a karka shell and on down the line. So, 400+ seems to be required to get the gee whiz drops.

At some point at SMC last night, one of the commanders yelled “Don’t let the loot bags get away!” Hundreds of people poured out of SMC and slaughtered the enemy. I think that should be our server’s rallying cry, funny as hell and quite right on the spot!

So, I just started messing around in wvw this week because of the monthlies and because I noticed that we were steadily winning every week. I had no desire to do anything with wvw before this, hate PVP, ugh!

But oh my God you guys rock! Yesterday i took the day off work so I could play wvw all day and. 12 hours later I had to force myself to log off well after bedtime

I have no idea how the commanders rotate around but I have noticed certain commanders on at certain times. As such, on EB I’d like to give shout outs to Britsu (my fave commander), Actioncat, Mayoken and whoever was leading last night from 9pm to 12ish EST (brain foggy after so much pvp). You guys are what makes this so fun for me. You lead by example and you actually make me want to follow you around and die all the time. Awesome. Keep up the good work!
