Mesmer is not easy to play, a point made in the GW2 guide.
I have a lvl 51 mesmer. I’m working through my PS, in which I had to protect a village of hylek against the undead. We lost the village but saved the villagers. Then I had to protect a Lionguard fort….again, we lost the fort (and my partner) but saved some soldiers. Then I had to fight off undead from the shoreline of Lion’s Arch. We “won” but Lion’s Arch is being evacuated pending an overwhelming attack.
Could I have done better, i.e., saved the village, the fort, etc. or would this have been the case with any profession? I feel like I failed, and I have a really tough time playing the mesmer effectively in a mob. I’m using staff and sword/sword. I actually went to bed depressed last night about my poor performance.
I’m a lvl 44 mesmer who wants to engage in PvP….can I purchase lvl 80 gear to use in the Mists or does my current gear get “bumped up” to lvl 80? I also noticed that not all my trait lines are unlocked (domination). How can I unlock them?
I hear/read these terms and have no idea what they mean. Could someone explain them to me?
Also, I’m a lvl 41 mesmer and I realize I need to really up my game (traits and skills) in order to participate in my guild in any meaningful way. I’m not a good multitasker; if I can manage to kite and dodge during a fight, I’m ecstatic, but apparently that doesn’t cut it with the group (I’m sort of laughing at myself). Acquiring skill and trait points through leveling doesn’t seem very efficient, nor do I have a ton of gold or gems (yet). Is Edge of the Mists the way to go? Any help I could get to improve would be very much appreciated!
I love my mesmer, although I will admit it’s taking a lot of effort to learn how to maximize her abilities. Not ready for prime time yet.
I haven’t had much luck with guilds either, even though I’m in two of them. I’m currently working with a lvl 41 mesmer (Norn) and I know next to nothing about calculating dps, maximizing conditions, etc. I’m definitely a work in progress. If you’d like to hook up in game, let me know.

I don’t yet have a preference for any particular type of activity…I’m open to everything the game has to offer. I’m eager to learn and eager to help others.
There seem to be lots of guild on other servers but I’m having trouble finding one on Kaineng. I’m fairly new to GW2 and I’m looking for a warm, friendly guild that doesn’t mind showing me the ropes. If I could find a mentor for my mesmer, that would be ideal.
I frequently have trouble with lag in opening the Black Lion Trading Company screen. I usually close it out and reopen it (you may need to do this more than once) or I click on one of the other tabs on the left. Pain in the backside.
Why are necros not wanted for dungeons?
Is that a bad thing to do?

I ran into a Good Samaritan last night while looking for quests in Kessex Hills (lvl 17 human necro). I kept running headlong into areas beyond my skill lvl and dying. This player rescued me twice, then offered to show me areas more manageable. Using the asura gates in Lion’s Arch, he took me, literally had me follow him, to all the home cities and some of their waypoints. New to GW2, I didn’t know I COULD quest elsewhere. And as if that wasn’t enough, he gave me 2 gold and a complete wardrobe and set of weapons that were way beyond what I had managed to collect. Also, this was my first experience as part of a “party,” staying with someone and using chat; this broke the ice for me. I’ve been very intimidated by the thought of joining a group, but I think I might be able to handle it.
Thanks SO MUCH to this person who shall remain nameless! The game has suddenly become much more fun!
A lot of the ele builds I see are for lvl 80…Obviously I’m not there yet, nor do I have a lot of gold or skill points to purchase traits. So my question is, how do I choose? I prefer AoE attacks with a staff for group work, so I’m thinking Fire would be the way to go? Or should I spread things around? I’m new to this and somewhat confused….

I just received mail informing me of the Ascalonian Catacombs dungeon, showing me where it was. I’m lvl 28 and I understood that dungeons aren’t available until lvl 30, so why would this pop up now? Can anyone tell me what am I supposed to do? I tried to ask in-game but no one answered me.
Is it ok to leave a guild if you don’t think you’re ready for it? I joined a very small, new guild and now I find I can’t keep up (I’m only lvl 17). Would leaving be a “black mark” against me?
