geekiedude’s got a reply I’d second that, that glitch is not out of the question especially if you use Steam’s voice chat at all it tends to get stuck on that setting which is funny because it doesn’t properly use that setting in the first place.
Also, if you use Attenuation in Discord, the setting which lowers your other volumes so you can hear someone talk in Discord, it’s not at all unusual for this function to glitch out and forget to return previous volumes to regular levels I’ve had it happening all the time with Discord ever since I got it. If you want to check for that issue, right click your volume icon in the system tray and hit open volume mixer (WITH the game running) it should show you the per-app volume for everything running GW2 could have gotten lowered in there.
You’re probably not really having a problem per say. What was your old card for one? The xx60 cards are an above average gaming card, xx70 is much better, xx80 is really heavy. The thing is if you moved up from say an 860 to a 1060, there’s a good chance you won’t be seeing much of a difference, or if you went from say 970 to 1060 you’d probably see a loss. Also, in general, Nvidia’s had a lot of people complaining of issues in their drivers the last month including myself, I ended up rolling back to August because of huge FPS dips and various glitching.
Either way, MMOs in general are extremely CPU sensitive and just don’t use GPU as often as they should for most people. Oftentimes this is to get more players in that have crappier computers such as casuals so more people are capable of playing. Unfortunately, when the games don’t offset a LOT more weight to the GPU, GPU users tend to get shafted, and unfortunately for 90% of MMORPGs out there this has always been the thing. Even people with an up to date i7 CPU and a GTX 1080 are not going to get perfect FPS in a lot of things even. A sad state of affairs, but it tends to be how MMOs are. It also doesn’t help that most video cards are designed around software specifications for certain versions of DirectX for what it supports and what it runs the best on. In Guild Wars 2’s case it runs on DirectX 9, which has been a go to standard for entirely too long. DX10 was out in the Windows Vista era, DX11 was out in the Windows 7 era (and was the current DX version when GW2 came out but was ignored during development.) DX12 is out now, almost nothing uses it… yet, but most of the newer cards out are going to be optimized towards newer versions of DirectX also which isn’t helping any but not sure how much of an impact that really would have. Personally I have a GTX970, I can run photo realistic graphics non stop at 60 fps on Witcher 3, but throw nearly any mmo at me and I’ll still crumble under CPU bottleneck.
In any case, to get your FPS up I’d recommend nixing some of the more annoying fps killers: Namely, Shadows, they’ve always been notorious for burning fps in the ground in most (but not all!) game engines, the Ambient Occlusion checkbox way at the bottom, is also a type of shadowing that generates shadows realistically around geometry joints, this also can be a big FPS killer.
As far as GW2 in general goes though, and especially in raidy type things and heavily populated cities, the model limit is going to be your friend. You’d have to tweak it to see how you like it though, the lesser amount of players there are the better it’s going to run, period. You could have it super low, but make the few people you do see look great, or balance it out some, up to you.
Shaders and Post Processing can also eat a lot of fps but will also generate a lot of your eye candy so that’s up to you. As for the reflection setting, should you choose to keep it on, if it’s on All I’d recommend turning it down, it’s my understanding that the game engine has a huge table of water near the bottom of many maps you never see that can actively be reflecting things off screen to kill your fps, or so I’ve heard.

First questions first, what was your old video card? Also seconding the clean driver install, and making sure it’s actually in a PCI express x16 slot and not one of the slower ones. Also, Nvidia’s driver releases since September, and especially into October, have been fairly problematic for quite a few people as well
This suggestion might slightly sound of an “I don’t want to waste bank on this” one, and maybe it partially is but I’ll drop it anyway: I think the non-crafted Gifts that can fall into your lap through natural gameplay that you may nou use ever or for VERY long time should go in there also. An example would be the gifts from HOT zones and the Gift of Exploration from world completion.
Also, I really think some of the tonics need something done with them, not the consumable ones per say, although errr eh maybe whatever. But well, I guess really achievement items in general that you may not want on you all the time that you inadvertently get, for example I finished the Silverwastes JP for the first time finally the other night, and now I have an Endless Skritt Burglar tonic, would be nice if I didn’t have to hold onto this if I wasn’t actively using it. It’s not really a material though, honestly in my opinion, you guys should really just move all the achievement rewards into the achievement reclaim or on an npc, I find it strange at the only reclaimable achievement items are things from milestone chests.
There’s plenty of other things people may not want to throw away but not have immediate use for, for example did you know that 3 of the 4 HOT Act story rewards are a completely identical amulet with a different name? Would be nice to see these in the reclaim or something even if only one may be in use as it should be.
I enjoy earning fun achievements and such, but sometimes I really have to consider if I want to waste another inventory slot permanently on an item I may rarely touch, which is kind of a sad consideration, ya know?

This JP is definitely evil. Frankly I wouldn’t have even bothered if it wasn’t gating mastery points that I need. Right now I’m so angry that I want to hurt someone. This is not my idea of fun, there is a fine line between a challenge and masochism, and this JP is no where near challenge on that line it’s far into masochism territory. As far as I’m concerned I’m never going back to this JP.
While I’m grateful for the checkpoints, it’s still not quite right. For one, the checkpoints have no way of knowing they even exist but dying or knowing about the steam thing, it should be indicated that they even exist for one. Also should be a counter somewhere showing the max number so people know if they’re missing any.
The reason I’m infuriated right now and come to the forums raging and being a jerk though is because of pure, raw, bad design: I’ve gotten nothing accomplished today was hoping to kick back on GW2 and get this mastery point tonight, so much for that being relaxing. Right now I want to throw my computer out the window and smash it with a hammer.
The thing is, it’s not the JP itself making me angry, it’s the design flaws: I’ve spent the last 8 hours on this JP, and you ask, why would that take 8 hours instead of like 3? Well let me tell you:
First off, I almost got to the end, until I got stuck in geometry. Since anet has decided to not allow the suicide command to be used anywhere but a raid, this means I couldn’t kill myself to reset to checkpoint. This threw an entire 4 hours into the trash can.
What threw the other 4? Well the other 4 are when I got half way up the final spire, to fall off and not have the checkpoint rez me so I had to waypoint out.
I’ve played this game since release, and have never once been so infuriated at this game. Needless to say I’m not sure I ever want to attempt any new JPs if they all end up being like this, I sure hope not.
Also am I salty and ragey? Yes I absolutely am. I should have had this finished 12 times in the time this took just to get bugged out multiple times.
Also I’d like to add, like others have said: Super poor form putting the tokens for the other achievement in there. This is like SAB tribulation mode levels of evil and you put small parts of a meta achievement in there? That ain’t right man :p At least the meta doesn’t require every single achievement this time though

Wow, password protected guild banks, that’s a good idea you know I’ve never seen a game ever do that, they really should though. Especially since Anet isn’t exactly offering a roll back on those. To be honest, I came here looking for other guild bank issues myself, I’m probably going to quit the game now though.
Friend got hacked, was just us two sharing a guild bank, and they won’t restore it when this hack just sold like the last six months of my crafting supplies I’ve hoarded, I really don’t have time to throw all that kind of stuff away. I really don’t like that this gets pooled into “guild politics” there is no politics about a hacked account stealing things
I haven’t been playing as often as I use to lately which is making it become harder for the few friends I have to contact me in game. Unfortunately I’ve found out in the last couple weeks from a friend that I am not showing up as online.
I never even change the social availability setting however it seems to somehow be stuck in invisible and at least one of my friends is not seeing me. I’ve played around toggling the setting it seems to change nothing, I’ve already paged a GM but they turned it straight into a bug report.
I’m hoping there’s something that can be done about this I’m kind of tired of being hidden :\
While this is good for general gameplay (although I hope it doesn’t lead to too many event zergs) I really hope this doesn’t hurt the RP community on Tarnished Coast, it would be nice if we had a manual way to change servers or something just in case like GW1 had had
I wish I knew I’m also wondering where this comes from I’d hate to miss it >.< Darn you temporary items. I did just hear that Marjory turns into a vendor after getting the toxic sampler achievement though that’s my only lead so far
You can only buy some recipes for runes, consumables and the new healing skill from her.
Yeah found that out now, kind of wasteful I don’t really want anything she has, still not found this some people said it was black lion scraps but I thought only weapons were bought with those

Also here to confirm this is also a problem for me, regret wasting the silver on extra key bits. Also someone else in DR chat on my server said they had the problem, also had another friend with the problem. Oddly enough didn’t have this problem the last time Key Maker was up though.
I’d also like them to add some way to support hair better on all the culturals. If there was some kind of skull cap under these things or something it might look more acceptable, but I really hate putting on a cultural hat and having my character’s hair just magically disappear. I really like these hats but for this reason I don’t really use them
Slight bit of a tangent but about these guys Yavvi has a new pigtail haircut that players can’t get is that coming any time soon? lol
I don’t have any names right now but I’d like to put it out there that there are an absolute ton of asura with the wrong gendered voices they really need a good QA pass on random asura NPCs
I just wanted to bring this back up, the website is messed up once again
I appreciate the tips. The house is hard to keep things cool in anyway, but when it comes to this instance the new build DEFINITELY messed something up. The game was running in my recommended cooling guildelines (as well as I can get lol :p) prior to patch today, all my other games continue to be normal. I’m wondering if the new culling code has changed some of how video is rendered hmmmmmm.
I’m going away a couple days and may not be able to post for a bit. Anyway I wanted to say I’m concerned about extra CPU heat since this patch.
I have an AMD Phenom II X4 955, I like AMD and I know their CPUs tend to run hotter than Intel’s anyway but unfortunately living in an old house with bad ventilation and no AC especially with summer coming I’m getting concerned for the amount of CPU this game’s using.
As it is right now I sometimes already have to mildly overheat my PC to play in this old house in the summer so I keep a very tight eye on things year round. I noticed that this build of GW2 is causing my CPU heat to go up 3-5 degrees celsius. For somebody in a house like mine and this kind of hot AMD configuration, this is a bit alarming.
My other games are fine this is specifically a GW2 issue since this patch, maybe it has something to do with the amount of models being culled now, not sure I kept the settings pretty low. Is anybody else getting any hotter readouts since this patch?
Also I’d like to add that I would really like to see some options to offload some of the CPU to GPU. I like GW2 but this game has always heavily relied on CPU while my GPU (which isn’t the newest thing but it’s not terrible) sits around being cool as a cucumber, I know for the mmo space you need more sales and need to be able to run on PCs with less than adequate gaming hardware, but I’d really like to see some kind of options to offload some of the game’s demands to the GPU instead of just leaving most of the GPU to super high resolution details.
I don’t think the game needs a dungeon finder, that really did ruin wow, but not having a proper LFG tool in the game at release I think was a huge mistake. An LFG list that worked on the whole server, with some filters and being able to post things you want to do is what this game needs.
My game randomly ALT-TABS to desktop. I don't know why! Please help.

I too have had this happen but mostly just to GW, I think Google’s auto updater might be the culprit in my case
Since release, maybe in beta I don’t recall the errors then, I’ve been getting 1022s randomly all the time. They’re driving nuts, I wait an hour for WvW, then get kicked out in a matter of minutes, I’ve also had to restart countless story instances because of this. It’s driving me nuts I can’t figure out what’s causing it, my router has UPnP turned on and every port requested in the knowledge base has been forwarded to this PC with the exception of 80 and 443 because obviously I don’t want to mess with those so much.
I know about the clientport 80 thing but I would like to know what the actual cause of error 1022 is as there’s almost no talk of it, I haven’t played with the clientport 80 thing extensively yet but last I tried it the game felt sluggish somehow, may have been the server at the time, not sure but if anyone has any incite I’d appreciate it, I’ll also drop the usual network diag.
