You should be aware that ArenaNet is based in the greater Seattle area, and they work on PST time. It is now 12:48AM here, April 1st. Usually, updates and events hit the game at 9AM or 6PM PST. You’re complaining about April Fool’s, yet it’s only 48 minutes into the day in Seattle. At the time at which you made this post, it was still March 31st.

I still have the same issue today. Problem seems to be exact to what everyone else is describing.

Pretty much this. The CPUs don’t differ much anyway and for gaming, the GTX960m would be the better choice, but on then again- if the Quadro M1000M would be better for you CAD, just go with it.
I just checked some benchmarks and it seems as if this Quadro would still be somewhat faster than a GTX660m. Why do I tell you that? Because I played GW2 on a laptop with a GTX660m (coupled with a slower CPU then the ones you’re choosing from) for four years before I got a new Laptop recently and it ran just fine on med-high settings on a HD+ display (1600×900). So as long as you’re not going to play GW2 on more than FHD any of your combos should do, so just pick the one that’s best for your work.

One last advice after checking the Dell Precision 5510- don’t underestimate the influence of good cooling and maintenance accesability. Those super-slim and flat laptops sure look good, but keep in mind that the smaller the case, the hotter the inside.

Yeah – I definitely know what you mean. After having a bulky laptop for quite a while, I’m trying to stick with something slim that will get me by everyday, whether it be work, school, or gaming. The 5510 is accessible from its underside and you can replace quite a few things though not everything, If you have any laptop recommendations as well, that’d be awesome. The Radeons seem to do well with SOLIDWORKS and FEA / CFD software, so something like an R9 M370/80/90 is also an option.

Otherwise, it seems like the Xeon/Quadro would be a decent enough bet. Thanks again for your help guys

Hey all!

I’m an engineer/designer and developer, and I’m looking for a good hybrid laptop that’ll provide me enough power for CAD and 3D modeling (mostly Rhino, SOLIDWORKS, and ANSYS/COMSOL), as well as gaming. The only game I play at the moment is GW2, so I thought it’d be best to ask here.

I’m currently looking at the Dell Precision 5510 or its XPS counterpart. As far as parts go, I have the following options:

- GTX 960 + i7 6700HQ
- GTX 960 + i7 6820HQ
- Quadro M1000M + i7 6820HQ
- Quadro M1000M + Xeon 1505M

I know that GW is fairly CPU-intensive, and it seems like the i7 could be on-par with the Xeon, but I’m unsure which way to go. From what I’ve heard, the Quadro cards are getting pretty close in performance to their GeForce relatives.

What do you guys think?

I have seen a bunch of commanders for the first time in the last few days. Hope some of them will turn out to be good. The thing with multiple commanders may also make a big difference. You could chose to follow a defensive or offensive commander.

…which is actually what Anet plans to add: color-coded commander icons. Hopefully it’ll be implemented soon

Well PVErs taking someone not experienced in Arah p4 or in some insane levels of fractal everyday but hey for that they at least have kick button!

The difference is that those players are actually willing to learn.

I have a game I can’t play without hideous lag and epic queue times, all for some pompous PvE buffoons who’d rather wait 3 minutes for a claimer to unbuff than help defend a keep. Over-reacting is an understatement.

Don’t get me wrong, I love introducing new players to the WvW system and it really is great fun, but most couldn’t care less what the commander has planned.

…Impossible for actual wvwers to play the game mode they love. 3-5 hour queues because achievement hounds have flooded the maps. No real fighting force can even play in wvw now. It is just a mess and if you wanted rewards to be tied to wvw you SHOULD HAVE MADE BADGES ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING USEFUL.

Just do what I do. Set up a superior AC in a strategic spot in the closest tower to the blob and collect the bags. Most of the people coming at you are PVE carebears and have no idea what that red circle is on the ground, and by the time they notice their glass build has them dead in 3.2 seconds.

I still pull my weight, and I sometimes even come up with very strategical ideas. So if one person can do that from transferring from PvE to WvW it’s not everyone. You didn’t insult me, and I’m not upset. Your post seemed to ignore the updated responses within the thread.

We can’t be capturing ruins if we are trying to defend our garrison. The importance of the ruins at that moment is zero. The fact that you pull your own strategies is perfect; however, not everyone is like you. Most folks who come in from standard PvE play just run around for the achievements and start getting upset that no one is helping them when they get stormed by an opposing zerg.

And you ask what “my” lag has to do with the subject? I play on a Silver Tier server, so lag should NOT be an issue. If you’re so confident that it’s just “my” lag, then perhaps you should ask all the other WvW players experiencing 10-second delays and teleportation (who are also complaining via map/team chat). At this time, 90-95% of all players in the queued maps are experiencing significant amounts of lag.

As I said before, I absolutely don’t mind the lag and queues if the new players are willing to learn and stick together. Otherwise it’s a waste of everyone’s time and patience.

What I don’t understand, is that WvWers won’t allow new people come into WvW. I mean talk about being a little selfish? Just because you haven’t done WvW before doesn’t mean you suck. There is nothing wrong with PvE or PvP players to come in and play WvW.

Now to the achievements. There have already been achievements before hand for WvW. So thats really not the issue. Sure, the achievements prolly attracted a lot of player but is that the underlying cause?

I believe WvW Season 1 is a great addition becuase it is encouraging more players to play WvW. I can’t think of a single thing wrong with that. WvW is fun. Just becuase there are more experienced WvWers doesnt mean only they can play WvW and screw anyone else who wants to try. Believe it or not EVERYONE was a new player at WvW at one time or another. Would you like it if all these people cam e yelling at you and saying “Your new! Get out of here! You came from PvE! You don’t know what you are doing!” In all honesty, its kinda rude. And thats an understatement.

All in all, relax. Queues are not the end of the world. A-net saw the problem with WvW queues and that’s why they are making the “Edge of the Mists” Map. I’m in silver Tier and I have not had any problems getting into ANY of the maps, but it might be me. Maybe I’m ooober lucky.

Thank you for letting me voice my opinion. I hope those new to WvW will become more experienced and help assist your server. I also hope those older to WvW will become more accepting to new players to WvW, maybe help them out. MAKE THEM BETTER PLAYERS. Because in the end, your server will do better. So, PvE or achievers, it doesnt matter. They are still new to WvW and they still have to become a part of WvW. Welcome them, and appreciate them, don’t push them away. Hope everyone has fun! Side note: The Ruins actualy help in WvW and they are not the only achievement btw
Side note 2: I haven’t had a problem on my server with 20+ people ignoring a garrison to obtain ruins…
Side note 3: You guys complain about the ruins a lot. Do you realize that ruins give you bonuses? Commanders, tell groups of 5-10 to constantly be flipping ruins. DO you want your rivals to have that bonus? Honestly Id prefer to have a bonus than my rival, but that might be just me o.O

Haha. Queues are the only thing balancing server population over time. If Queues dissappear T1 Servers will become even bigger.

As Aaron said, nobody is complaining about the existence of queues. We’re complaining about the addition of achievements into the WvW season. I am so happy that my server is seeing a drastic increase in the WvW population, and I honestly don’t mind waiting in a queue.

The only thing that’s getting on my nerves is the ridiculous lag and the PvE buffoons. In terms of lag, Anet should have seen this coming and should have prepared for this. The time it takes for my heal skill to activate is about 10 seconds now, and forces me to change to a passive heal/tank build.

About the PvE players, as I said, I’m really glad that we’re seeing a drastic increase in the WvW population, and I love seeing a long wait time for the queues, but if you decide to join WvW, you PLAY THE OBJECTIVE. We can’t have a large amount of selfish PvE players scrambling around capturing ruins for 30 minutes when we’re trying to defend our own garrison. I’d really love to train the players to prepare for WvW, and I’m open to new players willing to learn, but they honestly couldn’t give a rats behind. They’re only joining for their little achievements, then they’ll blatantly leave. I’ve had enough of this snubbery and I’m waiting a couple weeks before I go back into WvW again.

In theory, you could make a case out of this. I’d ask for every single form of proof they have of you “cheating”, and include all the names of the witnesses who were with you at the time.

Everything looks good to me, except I’d be venom bombing. I feel that a thief commander needs to adapt to the group he is leading rather than his own survivability. AoE triggers and effects will combo for more damage as well as retaliations, area healing, and cleansing bolts. Keep in mind that you will also have boons and healing from your allies, that is, if the group stacks and doesn’t scatter like a bunch of flies.

The armor and weaponry (+ traits) you have should be enough to withstand a battle for a good amount of time. I would swap out Shadow’s Rejuvenation for Venomous Aura, giving you and your allies the venoms you trigger, running Skale Venom / Ice Drake Venom / Devourer Venom / Basilisk Venom. Rather than Slowed Pulse, I’d use Cloaked in Shadow for AoE Blindness, and the extra 10 trait points into trickery for Thrill of Crime for AoE fury, might, and swiftness.

To add to healing, I would go with Sigil of Renewal on both sets, which allows you to heal you and your allies for a good amount of health on weapon swap, and Withdraw to break from any stuns, cripples, or immobilized states (quick 15-second refresh as well).

Keep in mind this is something I, personally, would do and there is no right or wrong answer.

I’m stuck loading Gendarran Fields. Level 45 Thief in Aurora Glade.

45 cannot load Gendarran Fields. I was able to load up in Lion’s Arch, but once I entered Gendarran Fields, everything went down the drain.

It’s technically not free, the entire idea behind “free content” was paying for the game up front. They stated it would be free, and we would only pay the one fee for the game.

The people being impatient, is more of them stating it would be the 22nd, and them releasing it possibly up to a minute before midnight.

When you tell someone you’ll release it on a certain date, people expect it that day, not a few hours before midnight, and most definitely not a minute before midnight.

I’m not saying it will be released at 11:59pm, but it “could” at this rate.

That’s what people are upset about. Especially since this is a well liked game, and it’s a week night, meaning a lot of people who work are going to miss the opening event.

Seriously, it’s 6PM (18:00) in the Pacific Time Zone. Evening hasn’t even begun. Stop complaining.

GOODNESS, everyone needs to stop being a child. They stated it will go live in the evening of October 22 in PST. It is currently 5:55PM in the PST Time Zone – not even close to being evening. They aren’t catering PST players, ANet is based in the PST Time Zone. Go watch the debate while you wait.
