Need Advice For (Sub-Par)ty

I think you should be mostly fine, here are some suggestions:
Let the druid go full healer, with sword/warhorn as his second set(buffing swiftness for the running sections), we have a healer in our usual group and it’s so op that we can actually completely ignore the poison at old Tom. Also good for learning in general → you have to stand near the boss to get healed, so you get used to melee
The Mesmer should switch to Chronomancer, but even if he can’t he should look into the supporting possibilities of his class, I mean Mesmer was used before too, so he definitely has options there. Just no greatsword camping, go melee, learning to invuln a group at the right time takes practice and is really cool if done right. Also reflection can make a world of difference in certain fractals.
Reaper should go a bit more dps (direct or condi), Tempest should too, maybe even change to staff? Depends if he likes that playstyle, some prefer fresh air, some staff.
You as a daredevil can use s/p for trash groups and maybe staff for bosses? As blind is useless against bosses and staff has evade too.

The goal is to have fun, so don’t fuss too much about meta and optimal, there are quit some ways to achieve the goal of T4 Fractals, with time and practice you will get more comfortable and tend to the faster options(more bersi/viper gear) naturally.

@Miku: Map Completion can be done again, or even much faster, if he only gets the needed waypoints. LW Stuff can also be done again, or the items are accountbound anyway (or just fluff and personal memory), he shouldn’t delete his old character, so he can still get all birthday presents and personal inventory expansions are in the tp.

So all in all you can get a race change with 2k Gems (including three inventory expansions and a new characterslot) and a bit of time. Seems like a reasonable enough deal for a feature thats gamebreaking otherwise.

You could simply create a new character with the race you wish to play. Ascended Gear is account bound, so you don’t have to craft it again and exotics would be easy to get.

I think a big chunk of the population doens’t use food because its impractical. You have to constantly check your bar if the buff is still there, then open your inventar, find the food and click it again.
Thats why i have real trouble using my food-stacks, even if the food in question is beneficial and really cheap. If Anet ever makes it so that you can auto-use food, we will probably see much more use of it.

Best class/stats for solo dungeons/fractals?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Artemi.1437

Artemi.1437

Best stats are Berserker for dungeons and lowlevelfractals and viper/sinister if you use a condi-class and go higher level fractals. If you can survive in these stats, naturally.
The classes most used for soloing are elementalist, who has the highest solo-damage, and there are lots of videos for nearly any dungeon in the game or warrior, who is damagewise on the higher end for solo and sturdy enough for some mistakes.

But if you’re fine with engineer, he should also be a good soloclass, as he can stack might and vulnerability and his damagepotential is rather huge, but he has a complex rotation. gear should also be vipers(or sinister?) or bersi, depending if you want to go condi or direct damage. But thanks to his versatility, he can solve a lot of situations and offer you the chance to learn the encounters in a new way

For solo Raids, there is a theoreticall possibility of doing it with mesmer, but even valeguard would take hours, and be really unfogiving, as you have to be invincible for every green circle, on top of dodging the attacks and doing the mechanics of the boss and healing yourself. Also due to having really low dps Mesmer is not a good soloclass in general, he can do cool things, but takes his sweet time.

I’ve been hearing a lot of talk in favour of +boon duration on mesmer, so that would probably mean Commander armour if the whole +40%ish boon duration from stats was needed, if +20-25%ish was fine however then could cover that with trinkets/weapons instead.

The meta has just one part with boon duration (legs if you look at the guide from qt, but one ring+one accesoire are possible too and bring you exactly at 100% boon duration with all other buffs). The costly part here is the sigill on the mainhandsword (+33% boon duration after weapon change for 7 seconds, every 9 seconds!) and the commander-runes, which give 30% boon duration and are a big pain to get. The rest would be berserker.
Elementalist can be btw. a good boon-bot (regen, speed, might, fury, protection, stability, vigor), if build for it, so it would also benefit from boon-duration.

About a condibuild for the guard: I doubt that this will be effective, even if you use sinsiter over viper, as guard only has burning. So i wouldn’t compromise the good condibuilds of War and Rev for a lackluster build for the guardian. And even if a condibuild profits more from sinister then viper, its often only a rather small differnce.

With the last set you have to make up your mind about the roles you want to play, here the classes really begin to be diverse, but thats a good thing in my book

Well, it all depends on the roles you want to play:
Here is my ‘solution’ for 3 Roles (power-dps, condi-dps and heal):
3 Sets with Berserkerstats and scholar-rune, trinkets and weapons berserker too.
You need the following wapons (in case you want to play various different bersi-builds in PvE and be ready for nearly any situation that may arrise):
Greatsword (Warrior, Mesmer, Reaper, Guardian) Force+air
Staff (Ele, Thief) Force+air
Hammer (Guard, Engi, Rev) Force+air
Sword (Thief, Guard, Rev, Mes, Ranger) Force
offhand sword (Mes, Rev, War) air
Pistol (Engi) Force
Offhand Pistol (Thief, mes) air
Shield (Mes, Engi) air
Scepter (Guard, Ele) force
Focus (Ele, Guard, Mes, Reaper) air
Dagger (Ele, Thief, Reaper) force
Offhand-Dagger (Thief, Ele) air
Axe (War, Reaper, Ranger) Force
Offhand-Axe (Ranger, Warr) Air

Variations could be using strength-runes instead of scholar at least for the heavy ones, as rev and warr are mostly used for their support.
If you play dungeonheavy you may even consider night-sigills and an sigillslot for specific enemys, instead of the air-sigil for everything.

Condi is mostly the same, but instead of bersi-stats you use viper(and aristocrat-runes i believe), and the main-weapons are different per class and not every class has a good condi-build, but as you want to use every class anyway you probably have to get every weapon anyway too.

For the last role you could go tanky or healing, as you mentioned wvw i guess you want both, so that leaves you with either nomad or magi. Zealot would be for the pve-healing. As i don’t have a lot of knowledge about this role, and far less on the viability of the different classes for that, i would probably go something like that:
Soldier/Nomad for the heavy classes, as they don’t have good groupheales i believe, and can go frontline in wvw with this.
Zealot/Magi for the lether-wearer, as the druid is the best healer and even used in pve for this role, and thief and engi either have range for wvw or are roamer by nature, so that you don’t need really need another gear then condi or bersi for them in wvw, i think.
For the magic-users its a bit trickier, as there third roles could be really different, ele with Zealot for healing, or clerics to be tanky and part of the frontline in wvw(?), wereas Necro would probably profit more from cleric or soldier-gear for the frontline, as in the backline he can use condi or Bersistats (like the ele too). And Mesmer has probably no place in the wvw-frontline and as a backline he is more support, so clerics overall? I again don’t know much about wvw, but that would be my guess.

All of this naturally depends strongly on what you play, which roles you see and how good a player you are. If you don’t survive in bersi-stats, scholarrunes are a moot point. If you really plan on doing it, i advise you to think about each class, which roles you want to play with it, which weapons and stats would be perfect, which acceptable and then look for similarities between weapons and stats, as well as between armor-weight.

Maybe you will find that you only want to play as an example, as a bersi-thief, therefore you ranger and engi have a bit more freedom for the other two roles.

A few things didn’t seem to work in the raid:
- We could rezz even full dead members while still fighting the guardians
- It was easy to get out of combat, while others were fighting the guardian. Even when i was still in range for the blue guardians aoe of doom, i instantly got out of combat after that attack.

Feedback about the guardians (our guild took down all three Color-Guardians, but got kicked out once we wiped at the 4th boss):
- Green one: He doesn’t seem to have any special mechanic to him? At least we just ganged up and beat him down, without any trouble, as far as i could tell.
- Blue one: this one gave us a bit of trouble, until we finally found out when his aoe of doom happens, and how to make him vulnerable. Don’t know why, but shouldn’t the blue orbs disappear with his death? Made the fight with the red one a bit harder.
- Red one: We first started with the wrong gear, after we changed that he fell, that there were blue and red orbs made it harder, but with coordination on a (more or less) chaotic level it was still doable. Don’t know how i feel about having to get a second set of ascended. But maybe we just missed a mechanic?

What i really liked: Summoned Creatures seemed to be immune against all of the bosses effects and aoe, which let them really shine.

I think that depends on how fast we will be able to clear any shady tactic. With the current vote-model i would think it would be best to wait with the approving, until the community had a vote. If we go back to a static ruleset, it should be approved because the wait time for the meeting would be much too long.

First Issue:
If you don’t push them, they should fight back i think.
Second Issue:
Either leave it alone as it is, or start experimenting by disallowing stuff until it gets popular, maybe make a survey to find the reason for its unpopularity?
Third Issue:
All Time should simply be the fasted record ever approved under a restricted ruleset, no matter how out of date the gamebuild or ruleset are. If a record used shady tactics that got banned, prior to the approving of the record (like with vCs Record), it’s not an All Time.

Artemi.1437

I may participate, or may not, depends on the rest of my guildmates, as they are higher in rank then me and actually did some records, but will probably see a meeting as to timeconsuming and nervwracking to attend

Regarding the inacitve Mobs: If i understand correct, your definition is unable to fullfill the wish of the community regarding Fimbul and therefore already obsolet? If you wish to make the rules clearer but in that process loose the point of the rules, ain’t that a futile exercise? But enough of that.

The point of the meeting, and as far as i can see it’s only point, is to make the rules final for an undefined intervall of time, but probably a few months.
So we will have the same problem as before the weekly voting started, that as the game and the strategies used keep evolving, there will be more and more edgecases, making it hard for our referees (the approvers) to decide if a run is legal or not and more and more shady for the recordrunners, if their records will get approved.
It seems to me your motivation for this is reduced time investment about the ruledeciding process for the “general public”, meaning the record running guilds. But i doubt this will be achieved, as the meeting will probably last for 2-3 hours and the timeinvestment needed for the (bi-weekly) votes is about 10 minutes. So this one meeting will use up the time of about half a year of votes. The maximum i read here in the forum about the time intervall between proposed meetings. At the same time getting less things decided, being a lot slower to react to new things and more uncertainty on all sides of the recordrunning community.
So instead of a rulediscussion, that we already had so many of, our first point on the meeting agenda should probably be, if we want static (for what lenght of time?) rules or the votes, whenever something pops up? Not that we already did a vote on it, but i’m fine with discussing it again.
The next point should probably be which one is to set higher: Decisions made in the meeting, or decisions made by the votes, if we find out there is a difference afterwards. This is to avoid any confusion after we have the results of the meeting. Personally i would weight the decisions of votes a lot higher then ones made on a meeting, but thats probably just me.

In short:
Proposed meeting agenda:
- Static Rules, or reacting to new issues?
- Which to weight more: Meeting decisions or vote decisions?
- Is there a better decision mechanism then current votes or meetings?

If you want to go off about your own ruleset: Can you please list all the differences of yours to the one from gw2dungeons.net(Especially if we already voted on them, and what that vote decided)? I doubt there would be a lot of people, who will do the work to figure that out for themselves. And if at the end of the meeting there is a difference on both rulesets, we will be worse of then now, because nobody will know, which ruleset is the right one. And some may even fell tricked, because the differences were never made clear.

Just a few points i found while reading your proposed rules:
- The decision of the community about Fimbul is ignored.
- The ruleset doesn’t allow consumables for solos, duos and trios.
- Jumping at the start is disallowed? As far as i remember there were a lot of duos which used jumping as a way of communication to signal that they were ready for the run.
- If you can kill a mob before it spawns, is he considered hostile but inactive? There are a lot of spawnpoints in dungeons where mobs will try to spawn but instantly die to aoe, often even before visibly spawned. The dredge-champ in Fractals may count too, in the current record he is first visible with about half hp?
- I’m not a native english speaker, but doesn’t rule 5 need to read “Time must be…” instead of timer?

I’m with Whetospu for the agenda:

How to decide bigger changes?
How to decide smaller changes?
What issues are small and what are big?
Who has decision power?
Etc.

Kinda funny how we are all told to be proud of living in a democracy, and up till now mostly voted for more democracy in the ruledesigning. And then there are those who endlessly quarrel, because there is now democracy.
We voted about nearly every aspect of this process, so how about stopping and accepting it?
We are now mostly voting on problems that got discovered just last week, so i would say this is actually a lot faster then the old method of calling a meeting. Especially since we have a whole week to think about the problems and discuss possible further issues that may arise out of the proposed solutions.

I’m for two scenarios that trigger a reset:
1.) Like Rising Dusk after Major Balance Patches, regardless if it was a buff, or a nerf.
2.) If the tactics used in the current record are no longer viable.

I don’t know if there ever was a reset, because a record was too good, but i think its sad if you do a really perfect run with perfect random and it’s basically an instant reset. Especially if the record wasn’t all time (aether could be such an example).
Another good thing about my second case would be, that it works against getting to crazy with the nearly abuses in a path: once Anet fixes them, its a reset.
And its also a much clearer rule then “can no longer realistically be beaten”. Because with new tactics, better times get possible.

But if you do the counting that way don’t you violate the independence assumption for the trials?

No, because the first ring of the pair doesn’t matter. Meaning that when the first and the second ring aren’t a pair, it’s still a 1/26 chance that the second and the third ring could be.
The same is true if the first and second ring are the same: still a 1/26 chance that the second and third are also a pair (making the whole a tripple at least).

It would be a different story if you would do this with tripples. Then 1-2-3 and 2-3-4 wouldn’t be independent, because if 1-2-3 would be a tripple the chances would be higher that 2-3-4 would also be a tripple(1/26), then if 1-2-3 weren’t already a tripple(1/676). Because the information that 1-2-3 is a tripple already makes sure that 2 and 3 are the same ring and we could use that information to decrease the possibilities for 2-3-4.

Why can’t we model 2 drops as a “trial” where “successes” means 2 of the same ring, and “failure” means 2 different rings?

Thats what we do, but you are forgetting nearly half the trials you have with this method by only counting to 42.
To ellaborate: The first ring is the start of our first trial. The second ring is the second ring of our first trial but also the first ring of our second trial! The third ring that drops is the second ring to our second trial and the first for our third. And so on.

Because if you get a double ring you don’t dismiss it with the notion: Oh its the second and third ring, those don’t count.

There are 26 different Rings that can drop from the Fractalchest(in your bank are 27 different ones, because the Circle of Light is discontinued and no longer obtainable). Namely any that you can also buy from the Vendor.
Secondly the chance to get doublerings is, under evenly distribution of the rings, 1/26. Because whatever ring drops first, only the second ring decides if its a doublering or not(and the chance for getting a specific ring is 1/26). Chance of a Tripplering is 1/26² or 1/676

You had done 84 runs.
1 Tripplering (~1/8 would be expected)
12 Doublerings (~3,23 would be expected)

So yes, your amount of doublerings is a bit high, but nothing too unusual.

Here is what i found:
Positive:
Graveling-Hatchling (the little ones, for example for the first event before the spiderqueen)
Spider-Hatchlings (i was surprised too)

Negative:
All the other Gravelings and the Spiderqueen (tested again, because the little ones where positive)
Elite-Spider (p2)
Oozes (p1 and p2, i actually only tested the elite-oozes, because the others died too fast, seemed like the normal oozes are actually enemies of the elite ones in p1, but no idea why. At least they were all dead when i did run back after changing my weapons and i had no idea why, as there weren’t any Gravelings on the scene. But because i did the same damage too normal and elite, i think they’re the same)
Howling King

Way of testing:
Air 1 of the dagger with elemantlist with a build that didn’t change the damagemodifiers or caused vulnerability or might. Hit the enemies a view times to get high and low results, then changed weapons and repeated.

As long as these guys aren’t near the event to scale it up into oblivion i don’t have a problem with it. It’s them that waste time by waiting/searching, while i get to do something different with a chest/traider/open dungeon at the end.

Did an AC-Story run and testet (nearly) everything against ghost-slaying sigill.
The following is a list of all enemies that i tested and got positive results:
- Elite-Ascalon-Warrior
- Elite-Ascalon-Elementalist
- Elite-Ascalon-Monk
- Elite-Ascalon-Mesmer
- Elite-Ascalon-Necromancer
- Elite-Ascalon-Ranger
- Spider-Hatchling
- Gateguard Napa
- Ascalonian Captain (Bow) (Champion)
- Graveling Hatchling
- Ascalon Captain (Greatsword) (Champion)
- Ascalon Leutnant (Hammer) (Champion) <- is listed as Gatekeeper on gw2dungeons.net but named “Ascalon-Leutnant” in german?
- Fang (Nentes first Dog)
- Nente
- Kasha
- Vassar
- Ralena
- King Adelbern

Unsure about the result, because they die really fast: Kashas Minions seem to be neither undead nor ghost (sigill)

A curios result about the cavetroll, that should be verified from someone else: The undead slaying sigill seems to work, the ghost one doens’t. But the undead potion doesn’t work! Because of bad spawnposition of the troll it was rather hard to get reliable numbers from it and so it may just be a fluke of bad luck.

Didn’t test:
Shadow (Nentes second dog)

Way of testing:
Pistolwhip with a thiefbuild that hadn’t traits that changed the damage done. The sigill was on the offhandpistol (one undead, one ghostslaying). I did multiple pistolwhips per target to get a low and a high number on the individual hits, then disengaged and tried with the other offhand on the same enemy. The first hit of pistolwhip wasn’t used, as it was always way lower then the next few hits. Only non-crits were used.

I agree with you DonQuack, but i don’t think it would be much more varied with PuG-Tactics, they also have mostly one tactic for every path and that’s all. So you would see maybe two different tactics with one clearly inferior in terms of speed.
That’s why i had the idea of the fun tournament, where you have certian restrictions, where you need to use completely different kind of strategies/gameplay, which are choosen in a way to make watching it more entertaining

Also, from my understanding: The current problem is more about enough participants and not about enough viewers, as they are already plenty?

I too would be interested.
As for the requirements: How about answering some questions about the classes they want to participate with ingame?
Nothing is more annoying then a thief who doens’t know how to stealth the group without shadow refuge
Also i think it may be a good idea to make the partys not completely random, but with “guaranted” different classes.
For example: We have 3 Streamers and 3 Guardianplayers want to participate, so every group gets a guardian, etc.
That way no group will be at a total disadvantage just from the classes they have. I know that most players have more than one 80 they can play, so this situation is rather unlikely, but still noteworthy i think, as most may want to play with there mains, as they are best with them.

It’s cool to participate, but the training required and the runs at the tournament itself don’t seem to be that much fun. And if i also will get crushed, why should i participate?
The current tournament is all about the enyoment of the viewers. But who really wants to see more casual runs, where a larger part of the audience thinks: I can do better then these guys?

How about making the tournament for the casuals more about the enyoment of the participants. I don’t want to run against the guys who participate at Olympia, but running against the whole town and competing with the guys i know and the general populace is an entire different matter.

So for an idea: How about making a group-phase before the real torunament?
There will always be two guilds competing against each other, the path is set from the organizers, but the time when the competition is done, is for the two guilds to decide. They will still be recording there run, but it doens’t need to be streamed and is more for verification afterwards, if the two guilds can’t decide who won and to get the exact time of the run.

That way it’s more of an internal event for the guilds and no one needs to be shamed if they lost. And it’s there own decision how much they train the path they will be running against the other guild. Also if they happen to not have much time in a specific week, it isn’t a complete loss, they can still recover in the other match-ups.

And if all the participating guilds have the same path in a specific week, you could make it a rule to post the time for the run for all guilds. So even if the points or whatever are based on who of the two guilds won, you can still see how you did overall. So that when a more casual guild has to go up against one of the tops, they still have a reason to give it there all and don’t just decide to throw the match.

You could also do a ‘fun torunament’, for the ones who weren’t good enough for the serious one. In this you may have special restrictions with more of an event character to the run. For example: No weapons or no traits, you can only use one skill and no auto attack.
The goal would be to make it exiting to watch and to play, even if it isn’t on the highest level. Naturally you would hav to choose shorter and easier pathes for this as otherwise it may get too long and thus boring or to difficult, but that shouldn’t be much of a problem.

Here are mine.
My thoroughly honest adventurer is looking after Caudecus Manor, while Caudecus himself is enyoing the Queen’s Palace…
My lighthearted Elementalist doesn’t let the gruesome scenery of Arah get to her.
And last but not least is my Warrior experimenting with firebolds to boost his efficiency against the foes in Twilight Arbor.

Two really nice runs, but shouldn’t it be the same ones, instead of differents?
