Fractals Unplayable - immediate crash

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Arterus.8163

Hi, was wondering if i’m alone in this one, I can certainly find no other posts about it.

Went into a fractal last night (first time after 2 years away – returning player)

Everything was fine until my machine crashed, reset itself.

Logged back in, and because I was in the group still it asked me to click the fractal enter button on reload.

As soon as I click it I get a serious error popup.

I repaired the files with -repair and tried 5 more times (after fresh reboots etc)

EVERY time I click the enter fractal button, immediate crash.

The game itself works fine… Just fractals.

Any help would be appreciated,

Art

PS I would have posted the error but it seems I can no longer log into the game, log in just says client unable to gain access to the log in server.. I’m guessing it’s down. If not I have a much more serious problem

I couldn’t have asked for more, thanks again for your help.

It seems as luck would have it I was able to get my old characters back and as I was our old guild leader the guild still exists! Which I guess is a great start.

Heres hoping we will be able to do the guild hall thing from this base.

Have fun all, and thanks again.

Ultra Wide Monitor problems

in Account & Technical Support

Arterus.8163

Hi all,

I cant be the only person playing GW2 on an ultra wide monitor Resolution ratio 21:9 ?

Yet I cant find any similar posts here on the forums.

My 21:9 res, stretches the screen.. VERY noticeably, round objects (barrels in starting area) are oval in shape, and the character screen at log on, and the quest screens (where it zooms in to 2 characters talking) their heads are off screen!

Hopefully someone else has had and solved this problem, it will REALLY knock my enjoyment of the game.

Please help.

Hey all, it’s been a long while since I last played. I completed all the content way back when the game first came out, all but the last of the dungeons (cant even remember its name now) but it was always bugged so we were unable.

I had a great time, I moved on to other pastures but thought it about time I returned. Myself and 4 close friends intend to return very soon.

Questions:

1. Whats happened since the release of GW2 to the game? (I know thats a broad question, but how has it been expanded upon, has the cap changed.. what lands have been added)

2. Is this really the FIRST expansion? That really suprises me… Has the world not changed since then? What have veterans found to do??

3. The new expansion has guild houses.. brilliant news… I understand details may be sketchy at this time but will my band of just 5 be able to guild up and get one? (yes we like a challenge) or is it going to be guilds with 100 members plus (or some other restriction)

4. When is the Expansion out?

Thanks for indulging me, your time and help is greatly appreciated.

I got DC’d RIGHT at the end, literally 45 seconds before the final death of the ancient Karka! It took almost exactly 3 hours on my server/overflow, and like most of the other people here, I logged back in to find I was in another overflow where the event was finished.

I was still in group, but on trying to join them it said their overflow was full. Couldn’t get back in, couldn’t finish, couldn’t get reward.

So very disappointing! What might I have gotten as a reward? Sadly I will never know!

WvW Should NOT Be A Part Of PvE World Completion

Add me to this list too, and I LIKE WvW. I just think its wrong to have it as part of the completion.

On the surface, its a great idea because it gets everyone into WvW and while they are there a fair few folk are finding they like it, and staying. So kudos for that part.. But there are many people out there who just dont like any kind of pvp in an MMO such as this and why should they be ‘forced’ to do it to get completion.

Put my vote up!

I couldn’t agree more about making this event longer… However I couldnt agree less about not rewarding specific items for this event.

Events are supposed to be special, and you should be able to take something special away from it.

But Anet, your decision to make this a 3 day event is bizzare I have to agree. I too will miss out on this event! I am not as unfortunate as the OP, I am simply going away this weekend, but I will miss the content entirely as I leave friday night and return Monday morning!

As the OP pointed out, this is just US.. What about all the other people out there who will miss this weekend because of one thing or another they have to do.

3 days is nowhere near enough time for an event to run.

Thanks for reconsidering.

am I the only one?

in Guardian

No your not the only one,

I am always so reticent to post anything like this on these forums because normally the only answer you get is a rude one, telling you how you cant play. and to go back to wow if you want it to be different.

So seeing as someone else has started this…

HELL YES! (and I have watched this carefully for a weeks or so now, heres my ‘findings?’

Based on Guardian with full exotic (including weapon) and (2 warriors 1 guardian 1 mesmer and a thief in this particular group – the 2 warriors are also fully exotic’d up and the thief is 3/4 done (my wife))

I am doing dungeons every night with my guild and I have noticed MANY (and I mean MANY times) that the mobs hone in on my guardian and stay there until i’m dead. In nearly everyone of these instances the rest of the group members are almost all full health.

I decided to try some alternate ways of fighting, to watch the outcome (I knew I should of video’d this.. was thinking it at the time!)

I use a 2 hander, and a scepter/shield combo.

I waited for one of our warriors to pull, I then stood back for a good 8/10 seconds. Maybe longer, I didn’t have a stopwatch on! Then I started to attack with my scepter, my thinking here was that if I do LOW damage (which the scepter does compared to the warriors thief and mesmer) then theres no way I should pull aggro.

Wrong, I pulled it after about 3 hits on the mob. At this point I had done NOTHING else. The mobs that came after me were the others – not the target, incidentally. I kept attacking with the scepter (the original target) and tried to get the other mobs caught up in AOE’s from the others, so the aggro would swap, and I could be more useful. I quickly ran out of evades of course, and because healing draws the main target also, I was quickly dead.

This above example was accurate many times in the same night, I tested over and over (the dungeon incidentally was Citadel of Flame – Story Mode)

Another example that I tested a fair few times was the explorable mode of caudecus’s manor. The 2nd storyline, and often touted as the hardest of the 3. The infiniately spawning mobs caused us much problem, because we were coming at them from the top path (not knowing about the barrels at this time)

However, this game me a LOT of fights to try different things on.

Simply casting Hold the line, stand your ground, or any other shout seems to pull aggro IMMEDIATELY.

Heals – dependant on how long you leave the casting of heals sometimes you can get away with 1, but never a 2nd.

Our AOE attacks draw immediate aggro too, if used too early in a fight.

I have also noticed that the guardian simply cant melee mobs, in almost all incidences the guardian plays range (which frankly is poor) and support (which draws amazing amounts of agro)

Now, before the flaming starts here!

I know how to deal with agro, I have many, many years of experience in managing it in MMO’s and I also know that GW2 is supposed to be different in this respect, but however its looked at the principles are the same… Stay out of a fight for a while, let the warriors or ‘fronlline’ build some aggro then your less likely to take it.

Or thats how it should work.

In the case of a guardian (and I’m suprised more havn’t come forward saying this) it simply does not work that way.

We pull aggro VERY easily, and we cant loose it after, not until we are a squishy mess. This is not fun, and it is NOT playstyle, I assure you. It seems to me, that guardians are indeed singled out by mobs.

Maybe this needs to be looked at, maybe not.. But my personal experience is as above, and its not altogether fun, when no one else dies and you die repeatedly during a dungeon run. For a smile heres an actual conversation we had at my expence (remembering of course how useless the members of Destiny’s edge are in dungeons)

Member 1: Hey Art, you look almost exactly like Logan!
Member 2: Haha, you could be his brother!
Member 3: Yeah he even spends most of his time on his back like you too!

lol..

Do I suck, or is there something in what this thread is saying?

As a bare bones idea I think this is great. Wish I had more time to elaborate, but this essentially is a great brainstorming beginning!

Incentive is what makes an MMO successful, well done OP, good thinking.

What nobody seems to stop and think about here is that not all of us can play for hours and hours! Heres an example to clarify: And feel free to call me a terrible player, whatever, this was my experience.

I did the dungeon Twighlight Arbour the other night. after work/food etc. I had about 2 hours to play.

The dungeon took nearly 2 hours as none of us had done it together before (first runs always take time)

It cost me 22 silver in repairs.

I got 40 something (I cant remember the exact amount) for completion and a useless yellow hat!

The loot I received was minimal, and probably netted me another 5 silver.

So all in all in an ENTIRE play session for a normal player like myself I made 27 silver by doing a dungeon (at level 80 incidentally)

this is the problem that makes all the other solutions here a moot point. Everyone says go farm Orr for 2 hours and you’ll be rich… Most of us dont have the time, and therefore the endgame stuff is out of our reach.. Period.

This is no whine, or rant, this is simple fact. So please see it as that.

Since you mention it, I have been playing MMO’s and dealing with online communities since 1999 and Everquest 1. I am a veteran I guess you could say, although I dont ‘claim’ to really be anything. I have lead guilds in Everquest 1 (successful raiding) Everquest 2 (successful raiding) Star Wars (successful raiding) and now Guild Wars 2. (no raids to do.. but hey we can hope :P)

I pride myself on not allowing people like that anywhere near me, or my guild of friends. Its narrow minded, self centered, and unfortunately (like you point out) WIDE spread.

That doesn’t mean that ANYONE has to put up with it. I never have in over 10 years of online gaming. So If i’ve managed to block it, ignore it, move away from it then so can everyone else.

Sure, I’ve been on the end of it, and dealt with it when I HAD to. but honestly, you must be surrounding yourself with the wrong people, because in my mind, MMO folk are decent!.

DavidGX, I will treat your argument the way you treated mine:

Absolute RUBBISH! Not one single person in my guild would behave in that way, so that leads on naturally to… NOT ‘everyone’ will act that way. Just the children.

Quote Dwlovell: “DPS meters dont ruin games, anti-social players do. Those players will be just as rude without the meters. Dont punish everyone because of some bad eggs.”

Couldn’t agree more.

There are a thousand reasons why a detailed combat log/dps meter parse of some kind is useful.

This DOES breed ‘you cant join our group because you don’t do enough DPS!’

Answer: Dont play with those children find an adult group to play with!

I add agreement here too. I dont mind grind if i’m honest, it feels like I have achieved something when I finally get what I want but the game as it stands will not allow the accumulation of money.

Lets not forget here that we are mainly talking about the less than average, average and slightly better than average population here, a MASSIVE section of your player base.

Please remember ANet that we as players want to be able to experience all the game offers, and at the current price and money sink situation of this game we will never be able to.
Well, lets not say ‘never’ because sure we could if we spent months and months working on just these things alone! Please remember that we don’t want to ‘grind’ like that and many people will turn to the gold sellers in order to get what they want. (I don’t include myself in that, I think they are a virus that needs to be stamped out but others will use their services making them more determined to restart new accounts and continue to ply their disgusting trade!)

We don’t mind ‘working’ for our epic gear, that’s part of the fun. And sure we understand that you cant keep all the people happy all of the time. But this situation needs to be addressed or you will loose people!
We need an incentive to log in and work on something, and if that goal is completely out of reach to everyone but the hardcore, then folk won’t log in!
