I just started playing and am so confused lol, is the questing system only like every 10 levels? im level 9 now and all I have been able to do are the gold heart things?

try typing netsh winsock reset in CMD, worked for me.

I had this issue and this fixed it. Run CMD as an admin and type in “netsh winsock reset” without the quotations, then restart your PC and try again.

I have been having crashing issues for 2 weeks now, I have tried repairing the archive and even downloaded the client again and did a total re install but it still happens.

Let me guess, you have Verizon as your ISP? Vnet does not even know how to fix the issue, the tech support person I got was almost brain dead on the topic of networks. It seems Verizon likes to router GW2 packets through Europe which makes the launcher crash, especially during installing. I have tried everything they told em to try (changing DNS, host file editing, ports open,no firewall,multiple VPNs tried) so at this point Im making a ticket to try to get a refund, they have had this issue for over a year from what I can see so Im done wasting my time.

Try renaming GW2setup.exe to GW2.exe and place it where you want the game to be installed.

Also avoid installing it into your programs folder.

I dont even have a GW2setup.exe, the only exe file that I have for GW2 is titled “GW2” and its what starts the launcher so I going to try that.
EDIT: Crashed even faster this time. I have seen most people having this issue have Verizon as their ISP which I do, I have no idea how Verizon could be getting in the way of a simple installer that I have given access to but who knows. I also have tried Mutiple VPS like WTFast.

Do you see the login screen? What happens if you restart the client? Are the remaining files decreasing?

Yes I saw the log in, no the files are not staying.

All the things they told me to do failed so they dont.

That is not the case. There is something else stopping it and I have tried almost every possible solution on the internet.

Our Server Programmer expert shared this possible work-around:

We’ve investigated this and it appears to be a real issue with DNS lookup for some Verizon customers. While editing your host file will work in the short term, it is very risky, as any of those addresses you just hardwired into your OS could change at any time. Even worse, if you’re like me, you’ll forget about editing the hosts file and be really confused in the future when patching stops working.

A better workaround would be to set your DNS provider to Google (https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using) as that fixes this problem and will continue working into the future.

Note: If you have tried this work-around and it has not worked for you, please update this thread to let us know.

that does not work, jsut gets the install to go a little farther.

I bought this game today since it was on sale. When I try to download the game from the installer it halts at about 50% and crashes. I have tried all the possible solutions I have found, changing my DNS settings, updated all my drivers, tried using a VPN edited the host file, tried to change target location information and have no help. All necessary ports are open, the firewall is not a problem either. Tech support just told me “keep trying” essentially. I have run out of options, I even contacted Verizon to make sure the currect ports where open. Someone please help my poor soul.

They have a sticky thread saying to change your DNS settings if you have Verizon, I did that and got a little farther but the same issue again. Quite aggravating.

I jsut bought this game and 3 times now it says the client has encountered an error and cannot continue to download. My system has much better specs then the min reqs so I do not understand why it is not working.

Hello everyone! I jsut got the game and I thought I would come see what the community is like here! I have heard about this game for awhile, but didint really get around to buying it until it went on sale. I have come from WoW so im hoping this game can fill my MMO needs, without burning kitten in my pocket like WoW does.
