When any friend asks me what is my favorite game I always say that It’s Guild Wars 2 of course, but, if they ask me if they should start playing I need to tell them to just don’t.
The reason is that ANet is making the life of the new players so hard that I simply can’t recommend the game right now.
Back when I started playing, with 10$ in gems you could get about 2~3 major crafts (not including food, jewel and artificing), and get about 25~30 levels out of it.
Nowdays, 10$ in the game is about to 48 gold coins, and considering the prices in “gw2crafts.net”, thats 1 and a half major crafts that, with the massive nerf to experience by crafting, would result in aproxx. 10 levels.
Even considering that no player under lv. 80 could have real use of 400+ (or even 400) craft equipment (even for selling them once the exo materials are so expensive to be made for a first character under max. level), they still nerfed the xp giving 3 levels to 400~500 craft, 3 levels that has absolutely no use for characters that already are in max. level (about 150 gold for 3 skill poins yeeey ._.).
But the worse was comming, with the use of basic ores into the ascended recipes, they just made their prices skyrocket, even if it wasn’t hard already for new players to level 7 levels instead of 10 when crafting, they made it almost impossible to level by crafting considering the basic crafting price rise.
Needless to say that, every time they nerf a gold farm method (like they did with CoF P1, World Boss Chests, Champion Trains, and Dungeon Tokens) they seems to forget that the iflation (caused by the rise in the demand and in the total gold flux in the servers while having a fixed supply of basic goods like ores, leathers, fabrics, cores, etc. considering a fix drop rate in the game) will struck the new players 100 times harder then the old ones, once they will need to handle the high prices with no efficient method to farm them.
Not considering only that mistake that already made me think that they really don’t want new players to enjoy the game, when making an ascended gear (A.K.A. endgame armor for high level fractals and hardcore end game content), they included in the recipe TONS of EARLY GAME GOODS!
If you want to make a full ascended heavy set the list of BASIC 1-400 GOODS you would need are:
1000 Wool Scraps, 500 Cotton Scraps, 1000 Linnen Scraps, 7500 Silk Scraps, 1440 Iron Ore, 650 Platinum Ore and 1600 Mithril Ore
Can you imagine what are the results of this in the market?! They just set the demmand 1000x higher in ONE SINGLE UPDATE! Considering that the old players had no problem to buy those goods ASAP for their ascended gears, its pretty logical that the price of that goods (that were meant to be used in early game content and leveling) would rise so much (because of the instant up in demand) that the price of an iron ore stayed a long time the same as a orichalcum ore!
If that wasn’t enought, with the nerf in dungeon tokens, now the old players (with their pocked packed of gold coins) prefer just buying the exotic gear from the TP, and that make the prices of the exotic armor rise again (they falled a bit after the ascended patch due to the rise in supply).
Considering that, nowdays, for new players, not only crafting via gems or farm are not viable for leveling, but they are doomed to never have sufficient gold to actually start enjoying the game, so please ANet, HIRE AN ECONOMIST TO FIX THE THINGS YOU DID TO THIS GAME, I beg you, I love this game, but the complexity of the commerce just seems to be out of your hands :/
Sorry for the long text and lexical mistakes, I’m brasilian so It’s not my main language.
Lore:
“One day after an small earthquake, when a researcher from the Asuran Dynamics college was going to his laboratory that was in the affected area, he noticed that the frogs he was experimentating with weren’t there anymore, instead, in the same cage, there was some strange rats, some of them didn’t even had teeth, and some with frog legs and tongue. By analizing the chemicals that could have spitted in them with the accident, he remade the experience several times untill making the last test on himself, and becoming, after moments of true pain, a Sylvari. Now, after thousand of tests and experiences, he learned how to control the mutational subject “X”, and he sells for the Black Lion Company the rights of selling his “Unstable Elixir” that can guarantee your race change, and it comes togheter with a verifyed and authenticated “Personality Confirming Document” so that people could show their superiors to prove that they are the same person that just choosed to live with a different look."
Price: 800~1200 gems
Function: change ONLY the esthetic race of your character, all skills, dyes, story, levels, craftings, fractals, etc, REMAINS THE SAME, once the character is the same person and have the same beliefs and personal experiences.
For the storyline quest: when the player use this item (that would function just as a total makeover kit), you can add a new immediate history quest that the players just needs to go to lionarch and report himselfs to the coordination of the Black Lion Company (new or rerolled NPC, really easy to do), to atualize his documents in order to prove he is the same person, and so the player can go back completing the rest of his history quests.
For the cultural armor: is easy to set a check in the invetary and the bank in order to see if the player holds any cultural armor soulbound to his character, if he does, don’t let he uses the Unstable Elixir until he get all them gone (trought crafting, mystic forge, or anything else), and the problem with this is easily solved.
To people: please, comment things that could go wrong with the stuff I just invented so we can work togheter as community to solve all problems and concerns about this item idea.
To developers: take this solution for the lore/programming part of the race change option and please think about letting this happen soon, or just say something here that is new. Please, no one thinks that rerolling the same class is fun.
Thank you all, sorry for any grammar mistakes.
No problem dude, happens …
The thing is, now that they nerfed crafting, and they are still nerfing everything to make new player’s life 10x worse the old player’s ones … If any friend ask me if he should or not buy the game now, i’d rather say no then watch as he discovers how nerfed this game was. It will end up like WYD, they nerfed it so much so that new players can’t even join the economy of the game. Fun fact, GW2 is commiting suicide and the only thing they think about is remaking Tequalt …
I used that data simply from my friends playerbase, the important here is the idea, not the generalization itself, you’re just someone flamming for no reason. Ty for adding nothing intersting to my main ideia.
“Take it a a lesson and REROLL LIKE THE REST OF US.”
Enough said. Ty for proving my point.
Ok, I totally understand the hard part of coding trought all the thigs already said about race change. So, here is my opinion:
In new MMO games, dev’s understood that grinding is not fun (hell, that was quite an evolution) and the way to the full level should be a time to master all the abilities the player got so he don’t trash about the pvp when they get there. Considering that, there is ABSOLUTELLY NO POINT, in making a person that ALREADY LEVELED UP a warrior to 80, to level another warrior to that point.
Almost everyone (I would say 90% of the players) regrets the race they choosed for their first main, mostly because they didn’t know the game good enought for just choosing right, and obviously, they didn’t know about the late game skin way of playing that is molded into gw2 … So, why you guys don’t give us AT LEAST a “everytime you delete a character you recieve a 1~80 leveling scrool in the next character of the same class you create if you buy a race reincarnation ticket for 800~1600 gems”.
C’mon guys, its not hard to do! You can give us the new character with no equipments, you can even reset the pesronal history to 0, and make it not give experience points anymore, so people can just envoy the history and no one will complain! For a team that is willing to create new content every 2 weeks it just don’t seem that hard! As you guys always stated, this game should not be about grinding! In that way i said if someone create another class character he will need to level it to 80 again in order to gain this privilege, c’mon, people that created their first character just loosed so much!
I got an abyss dye in my human warrior, and I want a charr, make at least dye account bound again and I promise I won’t complain anymore!
Please, listen to your players, you’re all good now because of us, make the game we want to play, not the game you want us to play!
Thank you.
